Later that evening, Kate arrives back at her apartment and calls MJ to tell her about the time with Peter. She puts MJ on speaker so she can clean her apartment, just wiping stuff down so she has something to do, because she's not ready to go to bed.

"Hey, Kate!" MJ greets as Kate puts the phone on a shelf.

"What's up, MJ?" Kate responds. "Okay, you will never be able to guess what happened."

"You went out with Peter Parker," MJ states, meaning it as a guess but sounding definite.

"How did you know?" Kate asks.

"Just a guess," MJ says. "I was only like 67% sure. But judging by how the day went and by how I thought I saw you guys walking together earlier, I put 2 and 2 together and figured it out."

"You saw us?" Kate asks.

"I only thought I did," MJ explains. "I thought I recognized you. And him. I was on the other side of the street. Sooo, how'd it go? What's he like? Is he dreamy?"

Kate sighs wistfully. "Yeah. He's even cuter up close."

"You're lucky," MJ says. "I wish I could've gone out with him. Tell me everything. How did you guys even get together to date?"

"Kind of weird," Kate says. "I was at Delmar's and I was getting myself some chips, and Peter was there and he got the exact same kind of sandwich I always get, but he got it with pickles."

"That's confusing," MJ interjects.

"I know, right?" Kate agrees. "Anyway, he told me what kind of chips to get. I didn't even ask for him to! Then I got a sandwich and asked if he wanted to eat together. He said yes, and we went back to his apartment, and—"

"Oh, no," MJ interrupts, "did he try to do something he shouldn't have?"

"Actually, no," Kate continues. "Anyway, the walk there was totally awkward, right? We're not talking. I was waiting for HIM to say something, but he never did, except when he introduced himself, because we hadn't formally introduced ourselves."

"Kate," MJ says, "I don't wanna sound mean, but this is a disaster so far."

"It gets better," Kate goes on. "Back at his apartment, he's actually totally chill. He's funny, he's nice, and I think he likes me. We just talked while we ate then we played video games. Nothing deep, though. And then he just… kind of… kicked me out when I said I should go. No real goodbyes or anything."

"That sucks," MJ responds, "but what would you expect?"

"Disappointment," Kate says.

"I see you've been taking notes," MJ replies. "I wish I were you. I blew my chance to go out with him."

"You can rebound," Kate is encouraging. "There's plenty of guys that you can ask to go out with you."

"I don't want another guy," MJ sighs. "I want Peter Parker."

"So do I," Kate says. "Right now, he's mine."

"Do you have any way to keep in touch with him?" MJ asks, hoping the answer is no.

"No," Kate says, "I tried to follow his Insta, but it's kind of buried because he's a private account and doesn't have any followers and I thought it'd be creepy."

"What's the username?" MJ inquires.

"Why would I tell you that?" Kate responds. "Are you going to try to steal Peter?"

"I mean…" MJ stammers, "I don't know. I like him. He's handsome."

Kate remembers Clint's advice and tries to use it against MJ. She states, "Looks aren't anything to go on."

"I know," MJ replies, "but you said he was nice. I trust your word."

"He's nice once he starts talking," Kate says. "It's awkward till then. But he's just… kindhearted and… yeah. I know it was one night, but I want to go out with him again."

"Are you guys exclusive?" MJ asks.

"What do you mean?" Kate reacts. "Are you going to ask Peter out?"

"If the chance presents itself, I might," MJ says.

"Don't," Kate begs. "This is my chance."

"How old is he?" MJ asks suddenly.

"Uh, 18," Kate says, jolted by the switch in exact topic.

"You're 22," MJ responds. "I should date him. I'm 18 like he is."

"Yeah, but he blipped," Kate debates. "So technically I'm closer in age to him."

"He has lived for eighteen years," MJ argues, "and so have I. He and I are the same age. Him and you are not."

"Don't take this from me," Kate pleads, sounding irritated. "I've never gone on a date before, I've never had a boyfriend. This feels like a good chance. I truly believe that he might be my first boyfriend. Maybe, someday, a husband? I don't know, it's all just speculation right now. My point is, you've been with boys before, I haven't."

"Once," MJ says. "I was with a boy once, and only for a couple of weeks. I like Peter, and if you and him aren't a thing, I'm going to try to date him."

"Don't!" Kate yells. "Don't! Peter's mine! You don't know him, I do! How can you date a boy you don't even know?"

"You did!" MJ accuses. "I can, too! I know looks aren't the only thing, but if you like him, then he's a good person! I'm going to ask him out if I can find him and you can't stop me!"

Kate sighs heavily, almost crying at this point. She picks up her phone. "No," she whispers, her lips quivering. She hangs up and tries to forget the situation. She goes upstairs, brushes her teeth, and goes to bed, but she cannot sleep. She is MAD at MJ for wanting to take her boy. It was one date, but at this point, she needs Peter to be hers to make sure he isn't with anyone else. And now, it's not like she doesn't know him, because she does. MJ doesn't know him. Peter proved he is more than his looks, proved that he is actually a good person. Kate wants to go out with him again and see if his niceness wasn't a one-time thing.

Meanwhile, MJ is upset. From the first time she remembers seeing Peter, she has had a crush on him. She tried to find him online and throughout New York after first seeing him, but could not find him. Then, when all hope seemed lost, he came to the coffee shop again. She had her chance, but totally whiffed. She wants to redeem herself, but first, she needs to find Peter again. Just like Kate, she needs to claim Peter so he does not go out with anyone else. MJ really does trust Kate's opinion of Peter, not necessarily because she trusts Kate, but because she wants Kate's picture of Peter to be true. She hopes it's true. Part of her does actually trust Kate, and that makes her hopeful. But Kate is the person in the way, and she must be taken out of the picture, even if it means crushing her feelings. She can't do that. No. MJ decides that she cannot break Kate just for a cute boy who she does not know personally. Being rational, MJ decides to forget about the whole thing, forget that Peter exists, forget that he and Kate went out. She goes to bed, intent on letting it go.

A crush is clearly a very powerful thing. The important thing to remember, however, is that looks really aren't everything. The only part of a person that truly matters is that person's soul, who that person is. Kate knows this. MJ knows this. Peter, who likes both MJ and Kate, knows it.

Peter's passion for MJ reawakened when he saw her, and a fire for Kate began to grow when she asked him out. Throughout the evening, he liked Kate more and more. Again, is this actual love? Or is it not real, and he only loves her because she's the first girl to come along for him in weeks? He doesn't know. He wants to go out with her again to find out. However, he strategizes. He ultimately decides that he should go out with someone else and risk losing Kate. If he loses her, then they're not together, and she is safe. If he goes out with someone else, he has two experiences to compare, and he can tell if he actually likes Kate or not.

For now, though, Peter's plan is to look out for crime throughout the city. While MJ and Kate sleep soundly, they can attribute the quietness of the city to Peter keeping it safe in the dark, swinging through the streets as Spider-Man.
