Katie's cheeks were stiff from smiling all evening at the cameras and kissing Ned on and off all night. They'd hardly gotten anytime together tonight, both having to sneak kisses in the kitchen in-between answering everyone's questions about their plans for when they were married, now that they had gotten engaged.
Ned stood beside her as they said goodbye to the last few people leaving, Delia and Tim. His hands were at his sides as she hugged his parents goodbye and closed the door behind them.
"That's the last of everyone," she said, exaggerating her exhaustion with a wipe of her brow. "I'm going to lay down."
She plopped on the couch, using her brother as a pillow for her legs and Aaron didn't seem to mind or pay attention to what she was doing, only continuing to kill zombies on his video game. Melinda had recently moved his PlayStation downstairs so that she could manage how long he was playing each day.
"Is there any space for me to lay down with you?" Ned asked, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
She gave him a small smile and moved up slightly, "Always," she told him as he moved to lay behind her. "Are you settled?"
He moved a little and adjusted his body before he told that he was and she moved back over him, her back settling against his chest. He kissed her cheek this time, and she enjoyed the warmth of his body as she relaxed against him.
Things had been blissful between Ned and Katie these past few weeks.
Ned's hand reached over her body, tracing the skin of her knuckles gently; instantly her skin pebbled. His fingers traced a line up her arm, curving up her shoulder to the strap of her dress. "Tonight went on for a lot longer than I thought it would," he whispered painfully.
Katie groaned and nodded. "Yeah, lots of talking and questions. Too many questions," she muttered, her eyes still closed.
"And eating," he said, kissing her temple.
"That wasn't too bad though," she replied, turning her body to face him, his hand moving down to give her ass a squeeze now that he can. She had almost swatted his hand away, but he had moved it before she could. "The food was pretty good, but don't forget all the photos we had to talk earlier."
He chuckled, "How could I forget that?"
"Katie?" Melinda called for her daughter and she sighed, knowing she'd probably have to get up. "Will you come into the kitchen?"
She really didn't want to, that much Ned could tell, but she'd always help her mother no matter how tired she was.
"Yeah, I'm coming," she called back to Melinda and climbed off Ned almost instantly, straightening her dress and sideswiping her hair into a quick bun with the band on her wrist before leaning down to kiss Ned on the cheek. "I love you."
He met her halfway, sitting up next to Aaron, and topped her before she could. He kissed the bridge of her nose, the corner of her mouth, her chin, and the edge of her jaw, and then he was kissing her lips. It started off like the other kisses, gentle and chaste, supposed to be quick, but his arm reached around to hold her closer and pulled her into his lap again, his other hand gently caressing her cheek.
"Katie, I need your help with something…" Melinda's voice rang loud again through the house
But she had fallen well into Ned's trap and pretended she didn't hear her mother calling to her again from the nearby kitchen.
Aaron cleared his throat, causing her to look over for a second and Ned had continued on kissing her neck. "You're a better door than window, Katie," her younger brother laughed.
She pushed on her brother's head and mussed him his hair before she turned her back and kissed Ned again, harder this time. Her fiance's tongue darted out, traced the seam of her lips and then he sucked gently on her bottom lip.
That was when she moaned, quietly, but it was enough to get Aaron to shut his game off and leave the room disgusted. Ned was kissing her and she was kissing him more passionately now that they were alone until her mom walked in.
"Katie, I need your help carrying the tables to the garage." Melinda cleared her throat, walking into the living room, and seeing the scene before her. The mother laughed "Oh, you got sidetracked. I see. I'll get your dad to do it."
"No, I'm coming." She said as she pulled away from Ned, standing slowly from his lap but still keeping her face close to his. "I'll be back as soon as I can."
"Okay, sorry." He whispered, stealing another quick peck and squeezing her hands. "For distracting you."
The way his lips felt against her made her weak in the knees and she had to pull away after only a moment to turn her on so much she wouldn't want to lend any help to her mother. "It's okay. I still love you," she teased him as she walked over to her mother.
"I love you too," he said as he settled back into the couch and grabbed the remote for the tv.
"Sorry about that," she apologized, not completely sincere. Not even in the slightest bit, but wanted to say it to her mother all the same in case she was offended.
Melinda wasn't though, her smile very telling of her mood. "No, it's understandable." Melinda laughed, winking. "It happens sometimes. Your father can be the same way."
She blushed profusely but supposed her mother was right. Thinking of her father kissing her mother like that wasn't hard. Jim had definitely done it in front of Katie and her siblings many times over the years. That was all she had ever wanted, she thought to herself and smiled. A relationship like her parents.
Just then, in passing on their way outside into the backyard the two women passed Jim on the deck. Melinda's cheeks flushed as her father passed, almost tripping over her own feet.
"Hey, you good mom?" Katie asked, glancing over to watch her mother catch herself.
"Yeah, sorry." Melinda laughed and fidgeted with the hem of her skirt. "Your father's disgusting and likes to sneak his hands under my skirt whenever he walks past me."
"I heard that!" Jim yelled as he pulled the sliding door closed behind him. "I take offense to those accusations even if they are true."
