The Third Soul Of The Dragons.
Let me tell you a story about the two great Dragon brothers; the Dragon of the North Wind and the Dragon of the South Wind. Together, they upheld balance and harmony in the Heavens. But the two brothers argued over who could better rule their land. Their quarrel turned to rage and their violent struggle darkened the skies, until the Dragon of the South Wind struck down his brother, and fell to earth, shattering the land. The Dragon of the South Wind had triumphed, but as time passed and he realized his solitude. The sweetness of victory turned to ash. For years the bereft Dragon's grief threw the world into discord and he knew only bitterness and sorrow.
One day a stranger called up to the Dragon and asked "Oh, Dragon Lord, why are you so distraught?".
The dragon told him "Seeking power I killed my brother, but without him, I am lost".
The stranger replied "You have inflicted wounds upon yourself, but now you must heal. Walk the earth on two feet as I do. Find value in humility, then you will find peace".
The Dragon knelt upon the ground. For the first time he was able to clearly see the world around him and he became human. The stranger revealed himself as his fallen brother. Reunited, the two set out to rebuild what they had once destroyed.
That was the story told in the legends. But the legends only covered two brothers, but the real story, includes more than just two brothers. We know the brothers, Genji and his brother Hanzo Shimada. But who is the third sibling?
Genji stood on top of a building. Not long ago, he had a rather bitter reunion with Hanzo, the brother who had cut him down, which lead to Genji being turned in to a cyborg. And right now, he was searching for someone else. Akali stood next to him.
"So, guess Hanzo is a no go. Who are we looking for now?" She asked.
"My brother still needs time to see reason and move on. But I hope our sister will listen" Genji answered.
Akali blinked a few times "Wait, sister? You never told me you had a sister".
Genji sighs "Because... her part of our lives are less simple. I can sense her nearby, wait here".
Akali watched as Genji vanished. She hoped this would go smoother than the situation with Hanzo.
Elsewhere, a young woman was walking by herself until she stopped when she sensed something nearby. She narrowed her eyes she summoned some fire in to her hand before blasting it towards the figure in the shadows. Genji flipped out of the darkness, avoiding the blast of fire and landed in front of the woman.
"You senses are as sharp as ever... Shyvana" Genji commented.
"Genji..." The woman named Shyvana said in a not so friendly tone (Ironscale Shyvana. I like that look for her).
"It has been a long time, sister" Genji said.
"Step sister!" Shyvana aggressively corrected "Your father may have adopted me, but that doesn't make us family!".
Genji was silent for a moment "You... are still angry".
"What gave you that idea?" Shyvana asked sarcastically "I mean what reason would I have to be mad at you? I mean all you did was die, only to come back years later without a single word before then".
"Shyvana, I am sorry I didn't tell you sooner. A lot was going on and-" Genji tried to explain but was interrupted.
"You missunderstand. I am not upset that you didn't come back, I am upset that you did" Shyvana said.
"What?" Genji asked in confusion.
Shyvana walked up and glared at him "Genji, when I saw you being cut down by Hanzo... I burned down a large part of the clan. I cried for months, and I mourned your death for over a year. But after that... just when I was finally ready to accept your death and move on... I find out you have been alive this entire time... so all the pain and sorrow I went through was for nothing! You were alive the whole time and didn't tell me! You left me to suffer alone! You let me spend over a year hating Hanzo for what he did! All for nothing!".
"Shyvana..." Genji said with clear shame in his tone.
"I trusted you Genji! You were my family! Both you and Hanzo made me feel wanted after my horrible mother murdered my father and tried to kill me. You gave me a life worth living... only for you both to fight and try to kill each other right in front of me!" Shyvana said, her voice cracking.
Genji looked down. He could remember those days like they just happened. He remembered how Shyvana's mother was a horrible person, who killed her father before trying to kill her own daughter. Shyvana only survived because her dragon ability activated and she killed her mother in self defense. Such an act could've lead Shyvana to being brought in by the authorities, if not for their father bringing her in to the clan.
He closed his eyes. He remembered the times they used to play together, the times he would comfort her when she was sad, even the times he would watch her train with Hanzo. Those were the rare moments Hanzo was smiling and was truly enjoying himself... only for all of it to come to an horrific end.
Flash back.
A younger Shyvana was running at full speed trying to find her brothers. She learned after the death of her adoptive father, Hanzo became the new clan leader, and the elders demanded that Hanzo make sure Genji takes a more active roll in the clan's empire. However, Genji would refuse to be a part of what their clan was doing, something that would enrage Hanzo and trigger a dangerous tension between them. Worried the tension would become violent, Shyvana needed to find them and stop it.
She could hear the sound of battle nearby and rushed towards it "No! No! Please don't let me be to late!".
Shyvana reached the location where she saw Genji and Hanzo locked in a violent battle, their blades clashing in a blinding fury of sparks. The battle was fairly even, but Hanzo was ganing the upper hand and much to Shyvana's terror, it was clear this battle would end in death. She had to stop it.
"NO STOP!" She screams as she rushed towards her brothers.
Genji looked in her direction "Shyvana...".
Those would be the last words Genji spoke before Hanzo was ready to deliver the killing blow.
"STOP IT! NOOOOOOOO!" Shyvana screams before blood flew through the air.
Everything seemed to stop as Shyvana saw the horror unfold. She fell to her knees and began to shake. Hanzo was breathing hard before he looked at himself... he was covered in blood... Genji's blood... the blood of his own brother. He had finally realized what he had done. He looked at Shyvana, seemingly having just noticed her.
"Sister... I..." Hanzo began, not knowing to what to say.
"No... No... NOOOOO!" Shyvana screamed as her own dragon ability awakened, causing fire to erupt from her body, flames of dispair. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!".
A dragon made out of pure fire had formed above Shyvana's screaming rage. Hanzo watched in both awe and fear before flames consumed the area and Shyvana somehow managed to take flight and leave... little did she know... Genji was alive... just barely. And his body would be recovered by Overwatch.
End of Flash Back.
Genji sighed at the memory "I am sorry that you had to see that, Shyvana... I-".
"Save your excuses, Genji. I am done with you now" Shyvana said as she turned to leave.
"Shyvana, wait!" Genji said as he grabbed his sister's shoulder.
Shyvana smacked his arm away "Don't touch me!".
"Sister, you need to listen" Genji said, but Shyvana didn't want to hear it.
"I am not your damn sister!" She shouted as her power began to flare "If you want to keep me here, you need to fight me for it!".
Genji didn't like the sound of that, but he knew there was no way Shyvana would listen until she get her anger out, so he sighed and got in to a fighting stance "Very well, let's do this".
Shyvana narrowed her eyes and got ready "Fine by me".
Both siblings ran towards each other, Shyvana attempted to hit her brother with a right hook but Genji avoided her attack. Shyvana quickly looked back at her brother who did a spin and managed to kick her, sending Shyvana back a distance. Shyvana quickly regained her footing to see genji throw three shurikens towards her and leaping high in the air toward her. Shyvana quickly retaliated by using her fire at the shurikens and retaliated Genji's attempt at an kick by uppercutting him. Before Genji can touch the ground Shyvana gave a strong punch to his stomach sending him flying into across the ground and into a boulder.
Shyvana was more angry than he thought. He had to be careful, to many hits like that and he's done for.
Genji staggered a bit to get up from the blow, when he looked up he saw his angry sister rushing towards him. Genji quickly jumped over her, which caused the dragon lady to miss and hit the boulder, cracking it. This gave Genji the chance to elbow the back of her head staggering her a bit. Shyvana retaliated by attempting to kick him, but the cyborg ninja anticipated the attack and sidestepped out of the way. Genji then tripped Shyvana and quickly backed up.
When Shyvana got up she was annoyed, and unleashed a blast of her fire hitting the ground near Genji, causing him to lose his balance for a moment. Shyvana quickly ran to her brother attempting to land very quick and rapid punches to the cyborg ninja's face. However Genji was too quick for her and avoided all of Shyvana's attacks while landing quick low jabs. Shyvana was now even more angry and slammed the ground causing an explosion of fire sending Genji into the air while shielding himself from he flames with his arms. Shyvana used her fire to chase after him and delivered an uppercut that would've shattered a normal human's jaw. Luckily, Genji was not a normal human.
He deflected another punch before landing his own in Shyvana's cheek. Despite the pain to her cheek, Shyvana powered through the punch and grabbed Genji's arm. She let out a loud scream as she forced him under her and used her fire to rocket them back in to the ground, causing a lot of dust to fly in to the air.
When the dust cleared, Shyvana was breathing hard as she kept Genji pinned with her hand on his chest. He other hand was pulled back, ready to care his head in. Genji was just laying there, making no move to defend himself.
"Why... why did you lose?" Shyvana demanded, and Genji just looked at her "Why? You are faster than me... smarter than me... and a far superior fighter... you didn't even use your blades... you could've defeated me easily... so why did you lose?!".
"Because I didn't want to hurt you any more than I already have... sister" Genji answered.
"Why!? Why didn't you tell me you were alive!? Why did you make me go through all that!?" Shyvana demanded, with her anger gone, she was getting more emotional.
"I was in a very bad place back then... I was still coming to grips with what I had become... I was nothing like the brother you remembered... and I couldn't face you like that" Genji answered.
Shyvana got of him before falling to her knees "You really believe I would've cared? You really think I would've rejected you just because some parts of you are metal now? I wouldn't care about that! I just wanted my brother back! I wanted to know you were alive without having to suffer for so long... and you looked me up right away... I would've welcomed you back in to my life... I needed you...".
Genji removed his mask, revealing his sad eyes "I am sorry... Shyvana".
Tears ran down Shyvana's face and she began to sob. Genji said nothing as he gently pulled her in to a hug... Shyvana did not pull away, instead she leaned in to the hug and cried hard. After everything, she needed this.
Little did they know. Hanzo was watching them from a distance.
