In this chapter, we stay in the future and it's a little less, dramatic to a degree. The next chapter goes completely back six months to current events and I'll finally start telling the story in its entirety. I may put some of the last 2 chapters in along the way so don't be alarmed if you see the same events added in as I tell the story. These are just glimpses for right now. We will be focusing on the 4 months between the present and month six where chapter 3 started in this chapter. I show some glimpses of what caused Nelle to not speak and what lead to her predicament in the last chapter, meaning why she's at freedman and the differences as far as how she's treated. So first we start by going backwards from her time at Freedman as I said before but not the full 6 months back to the present just yet. I'll write notes like this to help every one keep up. To my reviewer and follower xXBalorBabeXx he sure is, although I haven't gotten the how figured out for that yet. If you're confused about the story go to youtube and look up Carly scenes from 2016 from may through July. I'm following that storyline. Thanks so much to those of you who have favorited and followed and to xXBalorBabeXx for the review. Keep them coming and if you have anything you want to see let me know.
1 month earlier
Nelle tossed and turned, gripping the sheets beneath her as the nightmare continued with no signs of stopping. "I can do this all day." Mary Pat growled, and Nelle whimpered in fear. All she wanted was Carly. She didn't belong here. The last 3 months had been absolute hell. Frank had done what he said he would, and did to her exactly what she ddid to Carly. Since coming to Freedman just a few days prior and being reunited with Carly she had slowly begun to separate fantasy from reality. Her nightmares were another story though. She woke up every night, covered in a cold sweat and tears pouring from her eyes and every time, Carly was there. Dr. Garcia cared enough about her to call Carly when Nelle needed her. It also helped that Anne only had her best interest at heart and had no plans to drug her into a stupor and if she was speaking, Nelle would thank her. Could this really be happening again? Why wasn't she still at Freedman? Where was Carly?"Open your mouth, Janelle." Mary Pat demanded and Nelle shook her head, even though she knew that would get her no where. "If that's how you want it, then fine." She said before leaving the room. "Carly. I'm sorry." She sobbed, tears pouring from her eyes, just wanting to feel safe again. "Carly." She screamed, a loud wail echoing off the walls of the small room and she collapsed to the floor where she began rocking back and forth."Carly?" She whispered. "Are you real?" "Nelle. It's Kevin." He said softly as he entered her room and took a seat beside the bed. "I want Carly." She pleated and suddenly he was gone. There in the doorway was Mary Pat. "Caroline isn't coming." She said, moving towards the bed. "We need to up your dosage." She said moving closer with the medication. "We can't have you seeing Caroline all the time, now can we?"
"Carly." Nelle screamed but all that came out was a whimper.
"Nelle. Wake up." Came a familiar voice and her eyes shot open, realizing where she was. "It's alright, Nelle. It's Dr. Garcia." Anne whispered, her heart breaking for her patient. "Do you want Carly?" She questioned softly, knowing immediately what Nelle's response would be and she was proven right as Nelle nodded. Anne glanced behind her, sighing in relief as Carly entered the room. "I'm here, Nelle." She whispered, immediately making her way across the room and taking a seat beside her. Crawling into Carly's lap, her violent shaking stopped the moment she was in her gentle embrace. "I'm not going to drug you, Nelle." Anne said seeing the scared look on her face and Carly shot her a grateful look. "My only plan is to get what meds you do need regulated and to help you recover from everything you've gone through." She continued and Nelle gave her a skeptical look but didn't respond, which Anne expected. She hadn't spoken since going to Ferncliff and Carly worried they had broken her.
"I'm going to give you some time with her." Anne whispered. "Thank you." Carly said softly, Nelle having fixed her gaze on her andAnne could tell she was the only person who'd be getting through to her right now.
"I'm right here." Carly whispered, Nelle continuing to look at her and finally beginning to relax. "You're ok now." She said, beginning to rock her gently back and forth, Nelle's face finding its usual place in the crook of her neck and Carly placed a kiss on the top of her head. A little while later, she was fighting sleep with everything she had, her tears wetting Carly's skin. "Shhh. I'm not leaving. Just close your eyes." She whispered, knowing that was the reason for her silent tears and she began to hum softly, a hand slowly beginning to rub her back to help sooth her back to sleep.
"You can stay the night." Anne said in a low voice as she reentered the room. "She hasn't been sleeping very peacefully." The therapist said and Carly nodded. "I haven't slept in 3 months, not properly." She added and Anne raised her eyebrows. "Long story." She said before sighing and beginning to tell Anne how they ended up here.
"She's been through hell." Anne whispered, her mind unable to comprehend how a father could do this. She smiled when she glanced at Nelle who had finally fallen asleep, and it seemed even in sleep, she responded to Carly's gentle touches. "You have no idea." Carly responded.
He was her power of attorney so he chose to have her sent to Ferncliff vs here and by the time I figured out he had set her up it was to late. If Dr. Collins hadn't stopped them and Jason hadn't gotten her out, they would've given her ect." She snapped. "Dear God." Anne said, a hand covering her mouth. "She will get the best care here, and you can see her anytime." She said. "Thank you." Carly said gratefully.
"So did he basically make her believe she was crazy?" Dr. Garcia asked and Carly nodded. "Yes, and she actually did that to me." She explained and Anne took a seat. "What happened?" "She's my half sister, and she wanted revenge for me not remembering her. She's lied and manipulated me for the last 4 years off and on." Carly said and Anne gave her a look. "So, how is it then, that you're here with her now?" She asked, wanting to understand this relationship.
"After she was raped, she came to the house and I found her in my kitchen. Something broke in me and I knew I needed to take care of her. Maybe if I had done a better job she wouldn't have gone through hell these last 3 months." She said and Anne shook her head. "This is not on you. This is on her father and the people at Ferncliff. You make her feel safe. Anyone can see that." She said motioning to the hand that was clutching Carly's in a vice grip. "I didn't believe her." She said and Anne gave her a look. "Did anyone believe you?" She questioned and Carly let out a sigh. "No, at least not anyone outside my family and that was why he did it. He knew I would think she was unstable, like everyone did about me because the items would come up missing." She said. "I can help her. It'll take some time but I can help her." Anne explained.
"What's your plan?" Carly asked and Anne rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "I'll look at her chart and figure out what i need to do. I'm thinking she will only need to be on anxiety medication. I want to take her on as a patient, but I do believe very soon she can go home with you and we can do out patient therapy." "That would be great, Anne. There's nothing I want more. The look she had on her face when they took her to Ferncliff is something I'll never forget."
"Carly. I get the feeling something else is bothering you." Anne said and she nodded, Nelle opening her eyes and looking around the room, pausing the conversation between the two. "Did you decide to wake up?" Carly questioned softly, Nelle beaming back at her in response, a smile taking over her face. "I missed you, so much." Carly whispered and Anne watched as her patient began crying silently, opening her mouth as if she was going to speak but nothing came out. "It's ok, Nelle. You'll talk when you're ready." Carly said, pulling her closer and Nelle dropped her head back into the crook of her neck, content being held. "Yes. Something is bothering me. A while back we had an argument and she explained everything about how she wanted me to remember her." Carly said and Anne nodded for her to continue. She said something that got to me. She said you left me." she revealed and Anne nodded. "That's why you feel guilty." "I promised her I'd never leave her after the rape." Carly said.
"Carly. I understand why you feel that way, but do you understand that's not what happened? She doesn't blame you." Anne said and Nelle shook her head. "You think I left you, Nelle?" She asked and the girl shook her head, tightly hugging her and Carly smiled through tears. "I appreciate that, sweetie but I'm still sorry." She said and Nelle nodded, seemingly excepting that and giving her a look that clearly said, "It's not your fault." "I think I can help you both." Anne said softly before quietly leaving the room.
"Well, it's just the two of us." Carly said softly, Nelle lifting her head and making eye contact, staring at Carly intently. "What, baby. What is it?" Carly asked and Nelle just continued staring at her. "Will you write it for me, sweet girl?" She asked and Nelle nodded. "I missed you." She wrote and Carly sighed. "Me too, baby. Me too."
