"You must really like playing cards."
David and Kurt rolled their eyes, leaning against the shelves as they watched Remy lean in close to the cashier, his trademark sunglasses on his face along with a flirty smirk. "Yeah, I don' mind solitaire… as long as I got someone to play wit'"
"I hate going shopping with the girls sometimes." David muttered, referring to Ororo, Jubilee and Rogue.
"No, you hate going shopping vith Remy…" Kurt corrected, "…. Who vould look at us ven ve have Remy vith us."
It was then that they spotted something familiar strode past the shop window, prompting Kurt to drop whatever he was holding.
"Ummm…. Remy…. Remy!"
Vaguely, they could hear screaming outside, and it was only then that Remy tore his attention away from the shop assistant, who leaned over the counter to reveal a rather impressive cleavage.
"See anything else you like?"
Remy glanced back at his friends, who both had their arms crossed and were tapping their feet on the ground. He winced, before turning back to the girl. "Don' go anywhere, I'll be right back."
As he rushed over to his friends, he frowned, "What was dat?"
"Sentinel." Kurt blurted out, "A really, really big Sentinel."
"I t'ought all de Sentinels were destroyed after de whole…. You know." Remy gestured at David and made a vague gesture that was probably meant to represent Magneto.
David nodded in confirmation, "They were. Which is why that, is very worrying."
In stunned amazement, the trio watched as Rogue suddenly leapt up into the air and punched the Sentinel in the face, sending it flying back towards the shop they were in.
"ROGUE!" David yelped as Kurt teleported him to safety, with Remy pulling the cashier out of harms way.
With the front of the shop completely destroyed, it was no surprise that the young girl was crying out in alarm. "What is that thing?!"
"Don' worry." Remy muttered, "I t'ink your insurance will cover it."
The trio rushed over to the window as the Sentinel pushed itself back into a standing position, watching as it fired two lasers at Rogue and Ororo, sending them flying out of the building.
"I've got zem." Kurt muttered, teleporting away, probably to catch the two girls before they could hit the ground.
The Sentinel then turned its attention to a stunned Jubilee on the ground, who looked like she'd rather be anywhere but here. When she tried to make a run for it, a hole was blasted right underneath her feet, causing her to fall.
"JUBILEE!" David ran forwards, skidding across the ground and holding out his hand, managing to stop her mid-air, before lowering her down gently to the ground. He then floated him and Gambit down to the ground next to her, "Wanna get out of here."
"I want to get as far away from here as possible!" she cried out
"STAND ASIDE" the Sentinel ordered, "I MUST APPREHEND THIS MUTANT"
David and Gambit jumped in front of Jubliee, Gambit charging up several cards.
"Apprehend dis!" he yelled, throwing the cards at the large robot, causing it to stumble back several steps as David watched in amazement.
"How does your aim always manage to be perfect?"
"Logan's been makin' me practice."
David raised one eyebrow, "Oh, a little one on one time?"
"Shut up."
"Guys!" Jubilee groaned, "We need to go, now!"
They nodded and set off running in the opposite direction, with Jubilee babbling all the way, "My life has turned into a freckin' video game!" She cried out, "Why is it chasing me?! We're all mutants!"
"Sshh!" David hissed, "Don't tell it that!"
Suddenly, a red laser ray came out of nowhere and sent Remy flying, his head hitting the wall hard.
"Remy!"
As David rushed over to help his friend, Jubilee stepped in front of them firing some of her blasts at the Sentinel and sending the robot stumbling back.
"You never hear about this happening to anyone else!" she screamed in fury, "Seriously! The Avengers and the Young Avengers are just down the road! What about the Fantastic Four?! The thing that's been eating people in San Francisco?!"
"Stop complaining and run!"
The group raced out of the mall, meeting up with Kurt and the two girls just as Cyclops appeared.
"Take your time!" David yelped as the Sentinel crashed through the front of the mall, "Don't let us stop you!"
Scott rolled his eyes, focusing on the Sentinel and firing at it, effectively decapitating it.
"Nice shot."
Turning to the teens, giving Remy a worried look, Scott sighed. "Why is it always you lot?" He moved over to help David with a stunned Remy, "Come on. We need to tell the Professor and Lehnsherr about this."
…..
Remy groaned as the harsh lights of the medical wing hit him in the eyes, prompting him to roll over and bury his face in his pillow.
"Oops, sorry Remy." The lights were toned down, and he sighed in relief, rolling back over to see David and Kurt peering at him.
"Ugh… what happened?" he asked.
"The Sentinel kicked your ass." David stated matter-of-factly, "Threw you right into the wall."
"And Jubilee?"
"Shaken up, but okay. Dad and Vati are trying to figure out why the Sentinels have been brought back- "
"- and vhy zey going after certain mutants." Kurt interrupted, "Not all of us…. It could have killed you."
"Lucky me, non?" Slowly, he pushed himself into a seated position, "I can't believe the Sentinels are back."
"You and us both." Throwing a t-shirt at Remy's face, David smirked, "Get dressed. We've got some eavesdropping to do."
They rushed through the corridors, narrowly avoiding bumping into Beast, who then scolded them, citing that it would be "disconcerting" if the chemicals he was holding, exploded.
Of course, he then went to go on and claim that it might also be interesting.
In the rec room, Morph (a new student at the school, and of the X-men) was shifting into every figure that appeared on the news, including picking on poor Jubilee as a shaky camera caught her running away from the Sentinel.
"Why vas he even allowed to become an X-Men." Kurt grumbled as they headed past the room, "He is… obnoxious."
"And that's putting it lightly."
The next room had multiple different TV's all over the room, all broadcasting on different news networks. One screen showed Domino, another showed Magneto in action, fighting against Sabretooth.
Needless to say, that TV didn't last long, as a poker card made the screen explode, Remy storming out not long after.
"Didn't see that coming." David muttered, sighing wearily as he and Kurt followed, only to be pulled into a nearby room, Remy hushing them and pointing at the giant Sentinel's head, hearing a familiar voice coming into the room.
"What happened at the mall couldn't have been prevented." Charles sighed, "Did we have any idea that the Sentinel program was being set back up again?"
"None." Erik grunted, as he, Jean, Scot, Raven and Charles entered the room, "The humans are getting bolder now. Attacking a mall during opening hours?"
"Yes, and now people can actually commission them to go after certain mutants."
"And you think that's what Jubilee's parents have done?"
The three teens all gasped sharply at the statement, and the conversation fell silent.
"Boys, what are you- "
BAMF
"- Doing." Charles rubbed the bridge of his nose with his fingers, "They get this from you." He directed the statement at Erik and Raven, frowning when neither of them looked particularly bothered.
…..…..
"Kurt." David glanced around the room, "Kurt, where did you BAMF us to?"
/Initiating Wolverine training sequence.\\
"Oh, tell me you didn't."
"I panicked!"
"The Danger Room?!"
From out of nowhere, a large spiked, metal ball swung towards them, prompting them to dive to safety, all on different sides.
"Regroup! Regroup!" David cried out, diving to one side, "Let's get out of here!"
"Oui! No kiddin'!" Remy pulled out a few cards pulled out some change from his pocket, wincing as the wall in front of him was smashed, revealing a very unimpressed Logan, "Oh… hi Logan!"
"Gumbo? What are you- "
Remy then yelped, realising that he was on one of the rising platforms, only just managing to roll out of the way of the other platform that would have crushed him, falling to the ground.
"I gotcha kid." Logan grunted, catching the young man in his arms, "Now, what are you doing in here?"
"It were all Kurt's fault!" Remy didn't mention that Logan still had a hold of him, quite liking the sensation really, "Apparently, he panicked!"
Just as he said that, the simulation ended and the large doors opened up to reveal Charles and Erik standing there.
"I sensed you might have run into a spot of bother." Charles chuckled, "Are they alright Logan?"
Seeming to have only just remembered that he was still holding onto Remy, Logan carefully placed him back on the ground and shuffled away slightly. "They wouldn't have been for much longer." He grumbled, "This is one of the most dangerous levels I'm allowed in this place, and I still don't get any peace."
"Sorry Logan." Kurt winced, "I really didn't mean to interrupt your training sessions."
The three teens made their way out of the Danger room quickly, however, before they could make another escape, Erik stopped them by their belt buckles. "Ah, ah, ah!" He sighed, "I think we need to have a little word about eavesdropping."
…..…
"We managed to salvage some information from the Sentinel's visual memory." Charles began, gesturing to the large screen in the conference room, "Now, I want you boys to play close attention when I replay it."
David, Kurt and Remy shuffled a little closer, peering at the screen, as Logan and Jean talked behind them.
"Has anyone tried to call Jubilee's parents?"
"We tried several times Logan, but nobody is answering."
"There!" Charles's voice cut through the chatter, "Did you see it?"
"Ummmm- "
"- The photo." Erik slammed his hand down on the desk, "That ID photo is from the Mutant Control and Registration Agency files. Surely that only proves that the Sentinel programme has been set back up, and now people can use it to hunt down specific mutants?! The government is plotting against us again!"
"Erik, the Mutant Control Agency is a private organisation." Charles reminded him, "The government barely supports them. No, I think it's far more likely that someone in the agency has a hidden agenda."
He then turned his attention to the three teens, "None of this is to be mentioned to Jubilee, am I understood?"
"Yeah." "Ja." "Oui."
And then David cautiously raised his hand, "Is this a bad time to tell you that Jubilee left to visit her parents?"
…..…
"Dey are gonna kill us if dey find us eavesdroppin' again."
David and Kurt both shushed the Cajun, pressing themselves closer to the door.
Charles had kicked them both out after David's little admission, and seemed very frantic.
"This is the building of the Mutant Control Agency…" Charles was clearly gesturing at something on the screen, "… Somewhere in there, are the registration files of hundreds of mutants, either innocently duped into revealing their identities, or signed up by their parents, much like with Jubilee."
"So, we get 'em and then we shred 'em." Logan grunted, as Remy perked up beside his friends.
"Remy and Logan could go on a duet mission." He whispered, "Remy could get in there nice and easy."
"You are so obvious."
Turning their attentions back to the door, even as Remy pouted with the unfairness of it all, they managed to catch the next sentence.
"This isn't a solo mission Logan… no, I want Jean to lead a small team inside. Logan, Beast and… Morph, you will join her. Cyclops will be in overall command."
As the sound of Charles's wheelchair could be heard coming closer to the door, the trio scarpered around the corner, listening to the next stage of the conversation.
"Professor, I've been a part of the x-men for years now…" Scott spoke up, unaware that David, Kurt and Remy were all rolling their eyes out of sight, "… and I believe as you do, that humans and mutants can live together peacefully, but when you formed the x-men, you said that we were to use our powers for good, to better mankind! We don't want people to fear us and if we do this then- "
"- I know Scott." Charles interrupted gently, "But we don't have a choice. We can't have parents changing their minds and sending those monstrosities after their children, putting everyone in danger!"
As Charles moved away (thankfully in the other direction to where the trio were hiding), Logan made his own appearance. "What's the matter Scotty… cold feet?"
As Scott and Logan bickered, David turned to the other two. "We need to go and save Jubilee."
"Are you crazy?!" Kurt hissed, "If ve get caught, ve might as vell be dead!"
Before David could reply, Logan came storming around the corner, stopping at the sight of the three teens.
"Don't you be getting' any funny ideas." He growled at them, pointing at them with one of his fingers, "You all stay here, and if I even think you're going after us, you'll be running training drills until you can retire. Am I understood?"
David frowned when he realised that Logan was focusing on him. "Why are you- "
"- Because you're the ringleader in all this." Logan hesitated for a few moments, "I'm getting Charles. No way am I leaving you three unsupervised."
"I'm feeling targeted!"
"You should be!"
