"We are goin' to be in so much trouble." Remy whimpered, "Dey are gonna find us!"

"Yes, if you keep whimpering like that!" David hissed, "Logan will hear us."

"Vhy do I get involved with you and your plans?" Kurt was having a mental breakdown as they crept closer to the Mutant Registration building.

They ignored him, crouching down in the bushes.

It had been easier than they thought to sneak onto the Jet, hiding in the medical area as the others headed out.

There had been nothing but silence for almost two hours, which led them to where they were now. Hiding in the shadows and hoping that the team came out with Jubilee.

Nothing.

"I don' t'ink I've ever seen you dis nervous." Remy whispered, as they kept their eyes on the building, "What's wrong?"

"I can't sense what's going on inside." David muttered back, "And I don't like knowing what's going on."

"Dat's because you're a nosy bastard."

Before David could retort, they heard the rumbling of an engine nearby, prompting them to duck down into the bushes, as armoured vehicles headed for the building.

"That doesn't look good." David hissed, eyes wide as the vehicles trundled past them, coming to a stop in the courtyard, as armed soldiers piled out.

With a wave of his hand, one of the trucks went flying, catching everyone's attention, as they all turned to the trio.

"We need to keep them away from the building!" David explained at Kurt and Remy's looks of dismay, "Just don't harm any of them… distraction only."

"How 'bou' you tell dem not to harm us!" Remy dodged as the armed guards fired.

…..

"Wake up. Wake up!"

Jubilee groaned as the light nearly blinded her, quickly realised that she was strapped to a table.

"I need to ask you some questions Jubilee. I want to know more about your little friends who helped you at the mall."

"Sorry!" She thought quickly, "I don't know anything!"

"Lies!"

"Alright, maybe!" She accepted, "But you can't do this to me! I'm just a kid!"

"A kid who had made her foster parents' lives miserable, and as your powers grow, you become a risk to everyone around you."

"Oh, come on!" Jubilee rolled her eyes, "Everyone knows you can't help how you were born! Genetics 101!"

"But you can help me identify the most dangerous mutants in society."

Jubilee couldn't help but frown at this…. Somehow, she didn't think he meant the ones who attacked humans.

And then a familiar face echoed over the speakers.

""Apprehend dis!"

"Apprehend dis!"

"Your friend damaged my Sentinel quite badly… who are they?"

Before Jubilee could say anything, the speakers crackled and everything fell silent.

"Hello? Hello?!"

Nothing.

"Great." She sighed, "Just great."

….

David smirked as he lifted two tanks up into the air, dropping them and the men inside, into a shallow lake nearby. "Fancy a moonlight swim?"

Gambit was dodging blaster fire, pulling a pack of cards out of his pocket, "You wanna play wit' Gambit? Here, take a card!" He flung a card at their feet, sending them flying into the air, as Kurt caught them, teleporting them into a nearby tree where they would stay.

"Ve're in serious trouble out here!" He groaned, "Ve need to go!"

"As much as I hate to admit it, you might be right!" David sighed, "Head back to the Blackbird before the others come out. Remy… charge that fence up! It should be a nice distraction for them."

Remy nodded, throwing a charged card at the fence and watching as it blow up with an almighty BANG!

And that moment, the small team emerged from the building.

"Come on!" David winced, "Let's home they didn't- "

"- What are you boys doing here?!" Jean called out, "This isn't safe!"

Before any of them could answer, Logan stormed over to them, grabbing Remy by the wrist and pulling him along with him.

"Logan?" Remy winced at the non-verbal answer, "Remy promise- it weren't Remy's idea!"

"We'll talk about this later!"

As they raced towards the Blackbird, Morph cackled in delight, "What did I tell you! Smooth sailing all the way!"

As they headed towards the treeline, they heard the familiar thunk and whirring of Sentinel bots.

"LOOK OUT!"

There was a flash of red, as both David and Jean fell to the ground, clutching their heads in pain.

"Morph! MORPH!"

Erik's eyes widened as Charles screamed in pain, wrenching Cerebus from his head, collapsing forwards in his wheelchair.

"CHARLES!" He grabbed his husband, helping him back into a seated position, "Charles, what's wrong?!"

"Morph…" The younger man whispered, "… He's… gone!"

…..

The Blackbird touched back down in the base, the atmosphere completely subdued.

Scott went out to meet them, as Jean sobbed in the pilots' seat.

The first person to emerge, was Wolverine, who saw Scoot and snarled in barely restrained fury.

"Cyclops!"

"I know how you feel about my decision Wolverine, but- UGH!"

Scott doubled over in pain as Logan punched him in the gut.

"You don't know anything." He snarled, claws unsheathing, "Next time, I use these!"

"I've had enough of this!"

"Come on then! Let's see how tough you are when you're not giving orders!"

As the pair argued, David, Kurt and Remy emerged from the plane, Kurt and Remy supporting David between them.

The metal shock had been too much for him.

"Logan! Summers!" Erik appeared in the corridor, Charles by his side, "Enough!"

"He left them behind!" Logan immediately protested, "Morph and Beast may still be alive!"

"Beast is." Charles spoke up, his voice barely a whisper.

"What about Morph?!"

Charles just shook his head, watching as Scott went to hep Jean and Logan stormed away. Turning to the three boys, he sighed wearily. "Take David to the med-bay… we'll talk about this later."

They didn't dare argue.

…..

After dropping David off, Remy took a deep breath and headed to go and find Logan.

He couldn't explain why he thought of the garage first, but there Logan was, ripping the top off of Scott's new Camaro.

"Tell Scott I made him a convertible." The man scowled, removing his mask and climbing into his jeep.

"Logan, I- "

"- See you around kid." Logan muttered, before pulling away.

"Logan!" Remy called out after him, but it was too late, "… It wasn't you fault either."

In the silence, his mind turned back to what happened.

A flash of red as David and Jean screamed in pain.

Nobody even noticed that Morph wasn't there as they went to help the telepaths, Beast getting fired back against the electric fence.

Sentinels quickly began to overwhelm them, and Cyclops gave the order for them to retreat.

Logan had objected, forcing Jean to telepathically knock him out.

They had left Morph and Beast behind… and Morph was dead.

…..

"My fellow Americans…." The President began on the screen, "… Last night, a group of renegade mutants attacked the headquarters of the Federal Security Agency. The attack was foiled by Trask's new and improved Sentinels."

Everyone watched the broadcast from the control room.

"Sentinels." Erik growled, "Didn't they learn last time, that building the damn things out of metal doesn't work well for them."

"I sense they're not stupid to try that again." Charles sighed wearily, "Erik… don't rush into danger."

Erik nodded, deciding to remain silent about how Scott had already taken off after Logan, the pair probably deciding to go after Jubilee and the Sentinels.

And judging by the lack of nosy teens, they had a couple of stowaways.

….

There was a loud crash, before Jubilee's right-side wrist lock clicked open.

"Alright!" She beamed, using her powers to remove the others, "Time to blow this joint!"

She blew a hole in the wall and hopped through, immediately taking off at a run.

"STOP HER!"

A sentinel dropped down in front of her, causing her to wince, "Ooops…. Wrong turn."

The she found herself surrounded on all sides, her fists clenching in anger and frustration.

"I just want to go home!"

"JUBILEE! DUCK!"

Jubilee dropped to her knees instantly, rolling away as red beams shot straight through the Sentinels, glowing cards taking care of another one as Remy swung down from the rafters.

"Did ya miss us?"

Jubilee had her arms wrapped around him in seconds.

"Ah reckon so then."
