The entire place was in chaos. People were injured, some were even dead. This will be a huge incident. To make things worse, that vile creature has Xanxus. I could feel my heart start to slow down. Yes. Punishment is called in situations like this. It is appropriate. Chen knew what I was thinking and got her weapons out.
"Shiori?" Squalo questioned quietly in fear a Rossi would hear.
"Yes?" I said at regular volume.
"What's wrong?" I gave him a creepy smile.
"Nothing."
"She'll hear you before she sees you, Shiori. Be careful." Levi warned in a low, pain filled voice.
"Chen." I ordered.
"Let's go get him back, boss." She replied with a sinister smile.
"I've never seen her look this scary." Bel said quietly.
"Me? Scary?" I chuckled at the thought. "That's because a parasite took Xanxus from me." Everyone shuddered. "I will kill her even if it means a war. I'll kill everyone in my way if it means I'll save him."
"You don't even have a plan." Squalo pointed out.
"Oh my. What an oversight on my part." I spoke without a care.
"Did you know there was going to be an attack?"
"Nono and I came to the same conclusion together when he brought me here. They've been spying on everyone. Apparently, they all have sensitive hearing. I'm pretty sure I ruptured two sets of ears."
"Then…"
"Lucia's family is the culprit. Thus, their contract with the Vongola has been voided. It's my job to give out punishment."
"You'll give a lot of punishment tonight." Lussuria mused.
"Bel, you stay with Levi. When he recovers enough strength, go find Nono on the second floor."
"What about the rest of us?" Lussuria asked.
"You're all coming with me. The second we leave this room, no sound at all."
When we left the room, we didn't close the door. It was a shame I didn't have any weapon on me to fight with. Though, there weren't a lot of materials that could survive my flame. Guns were off limits. Another rule we all agreed with was that if one of us were attacked, we'd keep going. I even planned on staying back. I took my shoes off to avoid suspicion. We all went our own separate ways. Chen's job was to capture a few people and interrogate them. She even called in our snipers to help. I'm sure my garbage men would love to pick this all up. When it comes to blood, they act like pigs in mud. It's why they like to wear white. It shows when they do their job. Two men ran to me almost soundlessly from behind. I didn't even have to turn around. Chen killed them. Our teamwork was flawless. She never strayed too far from my side. I saw a fire burning near the stairs towards the second floor. It didn't look like a regular fire from the intensity. The two of us ran past the fire. Unfortunately, my dress caught some of it and caught on fire. I let out a surprised gasp and was ambushed by a few men seconds after. It was as if they were moths to a light when it came to sound.
"Chen, go!" I demanded. She immediately left. This fire isn't normal. It's a flame and it wasn't Xanxus' either.
I had no choice but to tear my dress off. I needed to survive and I refused to die from a fire because of embarrassment. I took the scraps of my dress and wrapped it around a man's neck. He caught on fire and started screaming. I was cut a few times by the others throwing blades. I knocked the burning man into the rest. Some caught on fire. It appears the fire can't be put out with normal means. No matter how much the men rolled, the fire continued to eat them up. So, I ran to one of the surviving men with a blade in his hands. I dodged the blade and knocked the man out the first chance I got. I took the blade and slit his throat before killing the rest.
My head felt weird. Why couldn't I feel Xanxus? My eyes widened with the worst situation making its way into my head. I shook my head. He can't be dead. Don't even think about that for the slightest of seconds. He's too angry to die. I felt something tug at my heart. My body automatically moved on its own to the second floor. Squalo saw me and ran over. I walked past him. He followed behind. I walked into the room that had all the Vongola leaders' portraits and weapons. Was it not Xanxus that I felt? The door closed with a loud thud.
"Shiori?"
"Something pulled me here."
"What happened to you?"
"The place is on fire but it's a flame. I can only tell Xanxus didn't make the flame. I don't know what's happening." I walked closer towards the portraits.
Why was I walking towards the crossbow? The glass seal protecting it suddenly broke. Squalo tried running to me, but he was stopped by an invisible force. A ghostly figure stood beside me. It was Daniela. She looked at me with a stern expression. I couldn't take my eyes off her.
'Take the bow.' She spoke softly, as if her voice was part of the wind itself.
Without hesitation, I took the bow from the box it sat in. The silver crossbow was heavy. It was sucking out my flame. I fed the crossbow more of my flame and saw it start to illuminate in a bright light. "W-what is happening?" I questioned with worry. When the light died down, the crossbow changed its form to resemble a Japanese bow. "The form changed. What kind of weapon is this?" I kept staring at the silver bow in my hand. It was absolutely beautiful. Grandpa would be jealous if he saw this.
'Take the bow.' The voice spoke again, softer.
"Why? I'm not Vongola by blood." She shook her head before smiling.
'Your blood may not be Vongola, but your desire to protect everyone has been acknowledged by all of us.' I didn't have time to think about if I deserved the bow or not. I turned to Squalo who was gawking at the whole thing. I guess he could see the ghost too.
No longer were my senses clouded by ash. I could finally think clearly. I turned to Squalo with urgency. "We don't have much time. I can faintly feel Xanxus. He's really hurt."
"Got it." I turned towards Daniela and smiled.
"I'm not sure if I really deserve such a gift, but thank you. I'll do my best."
The two of us left and met up with Lussuria and Mammon almost instantly. They looked at the bow in my hand. "We looked everywhere for boss. We haven't been able to find him." Lussuria said seriously. I closed my eyes and took two deep breaths. I could feel him.
"Where is he, Shiori?"
"Near the front door."
"What are we waiting for? Let's get that shitty boss back." A man ran at us as we started moving. I took the bow and concentrated. A purple flame bow was in my hands. I let go of the string and the arrow went right through the man's heart.
"Where did you find that?" Mammon asked.
"You can thank Vongola Ottavo for this gift."
"Her?"
"She's not bullshitting either. I saw her ghostly figure myself."
We stopped right before we got to the main room. By now, the flames were starting to reduce in size. However, the damage was evident by how black the room looked. The only thing we could hear was the cracking from the fire and distant fighting. I looked around for anything useful. I tapped Lussuria's arm. I pointed towards the large chandelier. He made a gesture asking if I wanted to be thrown. I nodded and looked at Mammon. He nodded in agreement. He'd help conceal me and my sound. On the count of three, Lussuria threw me with ease. My body felt light as I landed onto the chandelier mostly because of Mammon. It was a lot bigger than it looked. I could see Xanxus on his knees with his hands tied behind his back.
The three fully showed themselves. "VOI!" Squalo's yell filled and echoed in the room. Lucia and her men looked at him.
"I see some of your men didn't make it. Too bad. I was hoping that girl would be here to see me make Xanxus my husband." I couldn't help but pout. I wanted to kill her now.
"Shiori…" I heard Xanxus say.
"Are you sad she died? I'm sure my men gave her a good time as they killed her. I'm not that cruel." I could feel him start to lose it.
"Losing your head now won't change anything, Xanxus. That poison running in your bloodstream will only worsen the more stressed you are." Mammon said calmly. Come on, Xanxus. Calm down. Unfortunately, Xanxus lost his cool and let out a loud yell. His flame went all over the place, but it didn't break whatever was holding him hostage.
"Do you really want to die?!" Squalo questioned. More and more men were running into the place. My anxiety was running on high. I didn't want any of them to die. What could I do? I could only shoot a single arrow. My head felt like it was splitting in two. The stress of the situation was making me unstable. My hands began to warm up.
'Shoot.' I heard Daniela's voice. It was as if she was right behind me. 'Do not be afraid. Do not hesitate. Save your family.' I strung back the bow with a single arrow attached. A small purple flame was at the tip of the arrow. I didn't know what I was doing but it felt right.
Squalo was at a loss. When Lucia mentioned Shiori being dead, Xanxus looked devastated. He didn't even look like that when he found out he was adopted. He looked scared. Xanxus is never scared. Was losing Shiori something he feared that much? If Xanxus moves anymore he will definitely die. Why couldn't he feel she was still alive? Was the poison blocking their connection? More men ran in. They couldn't fight all of them at once. It'd be suicide. Mammon let out a small gasp. He felt a very powerful flame being released. Everyone looked up and saw purple arrows falling from the ceiling from small portals.
"Shiori…" All the men were being shot while the Varia and Lucia were untouched.
"W-what just happened?" Lucia questioned with fear, looking around with paranoia.
A shadow swung down from the chandelier. It was Shiori. She landed onto the ground and jumped towards Lucia and Xanxus with speed quick enough to lose sight of her for a split second. She let out a loud war cry before punching Lucia right in the face. Her body flew into the wall, indenting it. Xanxus looked at her with disbelief. He saw the wounds on her and grimaced. He didn't care. She was alive. She looked at him and smiled.
"Everything will be alright. I'm here now." With her magic words, all stress and anxiety left his body. "You were the one that ordered me to not die and I'm taking it to heart. I won't die unless it's an order from you, Xanxus."
"Idiot." No one knew if that was for Shiori or Xanxus himself.
Nono and his guardians were watching everything from security cameras in their saferoom. He saw how his mother came alive to give Shiori a bow. It warmed his heart. All Vongola leaders accepted Shiori. Even they could see her noble soul beyond the grave.
"Was it really wise to leave it all to them?" Coyote asked.
"I'm certain. Let's go end this once and for all." They all left and went downstairs. Lucia was tied up with a few other men. Shiori's garbage men came in and started cleaning up. She seemed to have acquired a lot more.
"Nono!" The don of the Rossi, Lucia's father, ran in panicked.
"Yes?"
"That awful woman killed all of my men and harmed my daughter. She even went and killed the family's allies. Are you really okay with letting that outsider get away with this?"
"Of course!" Nono said almost too enthusiastically.
"What?!"
"And I'll let her get away with punishing you for breaking our contract." The man realized what was happening.
"W-what? I didn't do anything."
"Daddy, this peasant punched me!" Lucia whined from the floor.
"You deserved a lot more. Be thankful Shiori only punished you for breaking contract. She'll need to punish you for hurting boss." Bel said with a sadistic snicker.
"What more could she possibly do?" Lucia pressed. Shiori turned to her.
"You'll be an excellent chicken." The Varia laughed while the girl screamed with fear.
"Nono, you can't let her send my daughter to an auction. She'll suffer there. Does that…thing even know how to get in there?" Nono stopped smiling.
"That woman is the Varia's cloud. Her name is Shiori. Before coming to Italy, she was one of Japan's top foxes. How else did the family get back millions?" The man looked from Nono to Shiori. She was glaring at him with demonic eyes. He let out a screech before falling to the ground.
"She's not even human!"
"She's as human as you. This is what happens when someone hurts Shiori's family." Nono commented with pride.
"She gives her targets no time, no mercy, and a smile as she kills. That's her way and we wouldn't want her any other way." Squalo said for everyone.
"Don't you see? We've been cornering you this entire time. Shiori caught on to your attack and decided to make a plan with me. Sure, some things didn't go how I thought, but everything ended well. Shiori."
"Yes?"
"Do with him as you please. Send a message to everyone. This is what happens when you cross the Vongola."
"Chen, bring him with the rest."
When my garbage men came running in, I broke the chains holding Xanxus. I crouched in front of him and looked at the wounds on him. He looked exhausted. "Are you alright?" He fell onto me, his head snuggled in my shoulder.
"I am now." His breathing was even. He was finally calm from earlier. "What happened to your dress?" He asked.
"It caught on fire."
"Fucking bitch." He was using me to stay up. His weight didn't feel bad on the small wounds I had. "Did they hurt you?"
"Just a little."
"I'm going to kill them."
"I already did that."
"Good."
"Are you hurt?" I asked.
"What the hell do you think?"
"How silly of me to even ask." I spoke sarcastically. "A medic should be here soon. You'll probably have to be admitted to the hospital."
"Bullshit."
"You were drugged and we don't know what you were injected with."
"It's a paralyzing agent. Stupid bullshit." His words were slurring.
"The doctor will be the judge if that is stupid bullshit or not." He grunted with disapproval. "You might not even be there long."
"Will you stay?" I could see the entire Varia staring at us. Squalo was nodding with approval. "What are those idiots doing? They're bothering you."
"They're staring."
"I'd kill them if I could move."
"I'm sure you would."
"You didn't answer me. Will you stay?"
"I'll stay as long as I can."
Squalo forced me to go home instead of going with Xanxus to the hospital. We were still with Nono. I handed him the bow. "I took something of the Vongola. My apologies, Nono."
"You didn't take anything. My mother gave you that bow." I looked at him with confusion. "I saw it all happen through security cameras."
"I see. So, it's okay for me to take the bow?"
"Yes. My mother and the other Vongola leaders entrusted you that bow to protect the family. I must say, I'm surprised you could wield a bow that well."
"I come from a family of archers that used to serve in the army. My grandpa is really into it and trained me when I found it interesting."
"That's wonderful. I learn something new about you every day. Now, go home and get your wounds checked. Oh, and some clothes would be helpful."
At home, we all went to our own rooms to take care of our wounds. I stared into my mirror. I can't believe I went through that whole ordeal without clothes on. I sighed before laughing. It was funny. Who else can say they stopped an invasion in their lingerie? Probably just me. I took a hot shower and changed into comfortable clothes. I called the hospital and was allowed to visit Xanxus whenever I wanted. Afterall, it was a Vongola run hospital.
"You going to see boss?" Bel asked.
"I am. I promised him I'd stay. Plus, I'd like to check on Levi."
"In that case, I'll go with you. I feel like berating Levi."
"I never knew you could be so worried for him."
"I wonder if the boss will be out of it." Bel mused.
"I'm sure he will. He was already slurring his words and no I won't let you visit him if he's out of it. Lord knows what he'll do if you tell everyone."
"He'll try to kill me." The two of us laughed on our way to the hospital. We had someone drive us.
"That'd be a shame. You're the only storm I like."
"Is the other one Gokudera?"
"Unfortunately."
"Did he really ask you out?"
"Again, unfortunately."
"I'm surprised boss and Squalo didn't try to kill him."
"They have more restraint than they let on. They know it's lights out for them if they act out, especially considering Gokudera is the storm guardian for Vongola's heir."
At the hospital, we went to see Levi first. He was lying in bed, moaning and groaning. He saw us and started to cry. "I'll take care of this mess. You go see boss."
"Take good care of Levi." I left the room and went to the top floor. They had Xanxus in a special flame-resistant room. People were scrambling left and right. "What's going on?" I questioned.
"You can't be here, ma'am! The patient is very dangerous and out of control."
"Let me take care of him. That's my boss."
"You're the Varia's cloud guardian?!" Everyone stopped and stared at me. I didn't look special since I was in a sweatshirt and pants. Nothing about me screamed Varia. I took that as my cue to go inside the room. He was going against the restraints, yelling in frustration. His flames were going everywhere. "Xanxus." He stopped and looked at me. I could feel his anxiety lessen. He probably woke up and didn't know what was going on. "I'm sorry I took so long getting here. I'd get sick if I didn't get clothes on. Plus, Lussuria was babying my wounds." I walked over and sat in the large, comfortable chair next to the bed. He kept his eyes glued to me. "How are things so far?"
"Shit. Absolutely shit."
"I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do?" A doctor came in. To my surprise, it was Shamal.
"Oh! I didn't think I'd see you so soon, Shiori."
"You either, Shamal." He turned his focus to Xanxus.
"Now, Xanxus, I need to explain a few things. Are you fine with Shiori being here for it?"
"She stays until I leave this dump." He looked at me and I shrugged.
"Okay then. You were injected with a poison that leaves your body numb. You're even lucky to be alive. I already used some of my mosquitos to lessen the effects and your blood results are showing improvements."
"But?" Xanxus asked.
"Unfortunately, you'll be incapacitated for two weeks. You won't be able to move or do anything on your own and flaring your flame will make your condition worse."
"So, I need a babysitter."
"Pretty much. You're more than welcome to stay here to recover."
"No."
"Will I need to send a nurse to the Varia to stay?"
"Shiori will take care of me."
"Huh?" The two of us questioned. Xanxus looked at me.
"Right?"
"That's fine with me."
"Are you forcing her?" Shamal questioned with suspicion.
"He isn't forcing me. He isn't comfortable with a random person going to take care of him. I already asked him if there was anything I could do."
"I wouldn't have imagined you two to be close."
"So? You have a problem with that?" Xanxus grunted.
"It's not a bad thing. It blindsided everyone knowing that Shiori was close with the Varia in general. There was nothing that pointed to a possible relationship."
"I wore the feather all the time. You just never saw it." I pointed out.
"Why would the feather be a red flag?"
"It has Xanxus' flame on it to calm me down."
"Is that why I felt intimidated even when you were at your worst?!"
"Probably." Shamal looked at me and then Xanxus.
"Anyway, I'll let you rest for tonight. I'll do a full examination tomorrow morning."
"I want to leave now."
"You can't. At least let me keep an eye on you overnight." Shamal looked at me for help. It didn't take much for others to know that I was the only one that could control Xanxus to a certain extent. I put my hand over Xanxus'. He looked at me.
"Please? I'm too tired to look after you tonight. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something happened to you on my watch." He took a deep breath and let it out with a grunt.
"Fine."
"Leave it to Shiori to save the day."
"I'm only doing it so I won't die." Xanxus said. It was my time to grunt. He turned his head, knowing I caught him in a lie. Shamal clearly caught it too but kept quiet. Xanxus would go into a coma if Shamal decided to tease him.
"Get some rest you two."
