Chapter Six: The Nudge Out the Door
The rest of the night quickly went by and morning came. Nick and the rest of the group had fallen asleep during the night. The head of H.E.A.T. felt someone gently shake his shoulder and opened his eyes to find Gandalf standing before him. Nick groggily sat up and asked, "What time is it, Gandalf?"
"About an hour before sunrise." Gandalf informed. Then he said, "But we must leave now."
"Okay. I'll help wake up the others." Nick said and got up. He started to wake the others one by one.
Even the Dwarves were fully awake and were currently cleaning up Bilbo's home. From his spot, Mendel looked down at the piece of paper that he had written on the night before and placed it on the table in the room next to the front door. Balin walked up beside the roboticist and also placed something next to the note. The Dwarf looked up to Mendel and said, "You never know."
"True." Mendel agreed before following Balin to the door. Gandalf, Thorin, the rest of the Dwarves and H.E.A.T. all stood before the door. Gandalf looked to all of them and asked, "I take it that we are ready for departure?"
"Indeed." Thorin agreed while Nick nodded. Randy became a little loud when he said, "Alright! Let's go!"
"Shh!" Elsie and a few of the Dwarves shushed and placed a finger before their mouths. Randy cringed a little when Mendel questioned, "Do you want to wake Bilbo up?"
"My bad." Randy said. Gandalf shook his head and said, "Let us be on our way."
Thorin opened the door and was the first one out followed by the rest of the Company of Dwarves. Nick and the H.E.A.T. team were next as they walked out the door. The last one out of the Hobbit's home was Gandalf as he walked out the door and closed it behind him.
Outside the Hobbit home, everyone was walking down the path to get where they needed their supplies. While Randy was talking with Fili, Kili and Ori, Mendel was having a conversation with Balin. Elsie was having an irritating conversation with Ori as he couldn't really understand her due to his impaired hearing. Monique silently walked side by side with Dwalin right behind Thorin. Nick looked over to Gandalf and asked, "So, what are the Dwarves' chances of pulling this off without Bilbo?"
"Without our Hobbit, the odds become much more difficult for us." Gandalf shook his head. With a sigh he said, "But I'm sure that we'll be able to think of something."
"Hopefully." Thorin agreed from the head of the group. They continued walking down the path to the Green Dragon.

Back at Bag End, the sun was starting to rise over and soon the beams of sunlight touched the sleeping Hobbit's face. Bilbo's eyes fluttered open from the light and seemed to be enjoying the peace and quiet from the morning. But the peace and quiet seemed to surprise him as he thought that he still had guests in his house. Rising out of bed, Bilbo walked through his home and looked about to see if he still had any Dwarves, Wizards or Men still in his home. He looked and called out, "Hello?"
He checked just about every where in his home, even the chimney. When he didn't see anything, he was a little over joyed to know that they were gone. But as he was relishing the peace, he kind of felt a little lonely. He walked into the room that was by the door and looked about. His gaze fell onto the table and he noticed the contract and a folded-up piece of paper. Picking up the folded-up piece of paper, Bilbo un folded it and saw that it was a letter. Though it wasn't written as most letters in Middle-earth were, the Hobbit could still read it. And the letter said…
Dear Bilbo,
I know better than anyone how you feel about the dangers of an adventure. I go through the same kind of fears and more when me and my friends went on our missions. While there is the possibility of something going wrong, I usually just hope that we all make it. And while with my friends, I'm able to bring what I can to the table and use what I can to get the job done. And like how Gandalf said that you have things to contribute as well, you'll never know unless you try.
As for not trying, I know that Baggins aren't the adventurous types, but even though you're also part Took, you'd be a Baggins who has done nothing that any other Baggins hasn't done in a long time or ever.
Just think about it.
Sincerely,
Mendel Craven
Bilbo set the letter down and looked out the window. Mendel's words did seem to make the Hobbit think. And after a quick thought, Bilbo knew that Mendel was right. The Hobbit decided to quickly round up what he needed. When he finished, Bilbo quickly rushed out the door before closing it behind him.
Bilbo quickly ran through Hobbiton to catch up with the Company before they got too far ahead of him. Bilbo made sure to keep a good grip on the contract while he ran. The Hobbit hopped over fences and made a few clucking chickens run off. Bilbo jumped over a farmer pushing a wagon with a pumpkin on it, startling the poor Hobbit.
He ran past a lady Hobbit while she was doing some laundry by a well. The Hobbit watched them go before shaking her head. Bilbo kept jumping over fences in his way and running down through green pastures on their way to the entrance of Hobbiton, startling animals or Hobbits as he ran by. He was soon on the path again as he ran and had to make sure not to bump into anyone. A Hobbit saw him coming and shouted, "Here, Mr. Bilbo. Where are you off to?"
"Can't stop! I'm already late!" Bilbo said as he continued to run. This only confused the Hobbit and he asked, "Late for what?"
"I'm going on an adventure!" Bilbo shouted with a large grin on his face. Some of the Hobbits watched as he disappeared through the entrance and into the unknown before continuing their daily activities.

Nick, Mendel, Elsie, Randy and Monique were riding on horse back a few miles from the Green Dragon. Gandalf had graciously helped them to acquire supplies before they parted ways with the Company. Randy gave Mendel a questioning look each time that he sneezed from the horse hair. When there seemed to be a break, Randy looked to Nick and asked, "So, how exactly are we supposed to find the G-Man or Doc's tin man?"
"We'll, I'm not sure about Godzilla." Mendel said. But he pulled out his remote and said, "But N.I.G.E.L. will be finding us pretty soon."
"What do you mean?" Elsie asked in confusion. Mendel shrugged when he explained, "Well, in case he got separated from us, I had made a way for N.I.G.E.L. to track our position and find us."
"Nice." Nick commended. Monique then said, "Gandalf said that we needed to follow the river a good distance before find where the men found Godzilla."
"And no doubt that the big guy left a trail." Randy added. Nick nodded and said, "We'll follow that trail and it should lead us right to Godzilla."
"But even if we find him, we'd still need a way to get us all back home." Elsie argued. Mendel then said, "About that, I've been thinking about the machine that brought us here."
"What about it?" Randy asked, not really following. Mendel then said, "I highly doubt that neither Hank or Alexandrea would have the means to construct such a device."
"You have a point." Nick said. With a shake of his head he added, "And no one on Earth possesses the means to create such a device. Not to mention that it didn't seem like any Earth tech."
"Tachyon?" Elsie asked. Monique's eyes narrowed and she said, "More than likely."
"We'll figure something out." Nick said as they continued on their way.

Elsewhere, on the Great East Road, Gandalf and the Company of Thorin Oakenshield had their share of the necessary supplies and a horse and some ponies. They were now traveling along a path through the woods, riding on the backs of horses or ponies. In the lead was Gandalf and Thorin. Balin, Dwalin both rode between each other on their own ponies. Behind them was Oin, Gloin Dori, Nori and Ori. And bringing up the rear was Fili, Kili, Bofur, Bombur and Bifur But as they rode along, some of the Dwarves were griping, especially Dori, "I said it. Didn't I say it? Coming here was a waste of time."
"That's true enough." Gloin agreed. Gandalf, the Dwarves who wanted things to have gone differently and Gandalf rolled his eyes from the naysayers. However, the Wizard's thoughts went back to the H.E.A.T. team
"No trouble, my friend." Gandalf said as they continued riding. From between Kazu and Fili, Kenta said, "I hope that Jeri and Bilbo are able to catch up with us."
"Ridiculous notion." Dori continued with a shake of his head. A good number of them looked to the Dwarf as he said, "Use a Hobbit? A Halfling? Whose idea was it anyway?"
While somewhere in agreement, others were more against the notion that it would better with Bilbo. But before they could go any further, they heard a voice shouted, "Wait! Wait!"
"Whoa, whoa." Thorin said as the entire Company stopped. Gandalf had a smile when he looked back to see who it was.
A good deal of the Company was surprised to see the Hobbit especially Thorin. When he caught up to them, Bilbo panted from all the running and slowed down when they caught up with the Company. Showing the contract, Bilbo looked amongst them and said, "I signed it.
"Here you go." He said and handed it back to Balin. The Dwarf nodded to him while taking hold of the contract. He looked between the two before turning his attention to the contract. The Dwarf removed a reading glass, the Dwarf looked over it and saw that it was truly signed. The ponies and horses snorted while they waited. Balin then folded the contract and said, "Everything here appears to be in order."
Looking down to the Hobbit while putting the contract away he said, "Welcome, Master Baggins to the Company of Thorin Oakenshield."
Everyone started chuckling and talking amongst themselves. Balin smiled to him and handed the contract back to Bilbo. The only who didn't seem entirely thrilled was Thorin. He then ordered, "Give him a pony."
Bilbo looked to the leader of the Company and said, "No, no, that won't be necessary for me.
"I've done my fair share of walking holidays, you know?" Bilbo said as they started moving again. He sounded a little proud of himself when he said, "Even got as far as Frogmorton once."
He yelped when Fili and Kili hoisted him into the air before setting him down on the back of a pony. A not so enthusiastic Bilbo rode on the back of a brown and white pony after he had placed his things where they wouldn't fall off. He was slightly startled when the pony neighed and then saw that the lineup had changed. Thorin was now taking the lead with some of the Dwarves right behind him and some at the back. Gandalf rode next to Bilbo as they continued on. Oin then shouted, "Come on, Nori. Pay up."
Bilbo watched as some of the Dwarves started tossing sacks of coins to another. Nori tossed his sack to Oin and the older Dwarf started laughing in delight. The two were confused by it while Kili held out his hand, "One more."
"Thanks, lad." Oin said when Kili tossed it to him. Bilbo looked to the Wizard and asked, "What's that all about?"
"Oh, they took wagers on whether you would come or not." Gandalf told him. With a shrug he said, "Most of them bet that you wouldn't."
They watched as the Dwarves continued to toss sacks of coins around. Bilbo then asked Gandalf, "And what about you? What did you think?"
"Well…" Gandalf gave a sigh of content and looked ahead when a Dwarf tossed a sack to him. The Wizard caught the sack of coins when he tossed it to him. With a grin he tossed it in his hand. Gandalf chuckled and assured the Hobbit, "My dear fellow, I never doubted you for a second."
Bilbo smiled in appreciation to that. An itch came to his nose and he sneezed before sighing. With a shake of his head he said, "Uh, all this horse hair. Having a reaction."
Then feeling around his pockets he started to look for his handkerchief. But when he couldn't find it he groaned in irritation. He continued to look for it before saying, "No, wait, wait." Then he called out, "Stop.
"Stop! We have to turn around." Bilbo said and it caused the entire Company to stop.
"What on earth is the matter?" Gandalf questioned, knowing that could not afford any delays. Bilbo looked about the group and said, "I forgot my handkerchief."
"Here." Bofur said before ripping off a piece of cloth from his coat. He tossed it to the Hobbit and said, "Use this."
Bilbo caught the cloth and looked to the rest of the Company who laughed. Even Gandalf had a grin as he found it a little amusing.
"Move on." Thorin said and the Company started moving again. They soon came out of the forest area and walked along a stream. Gandalf looked to the Hobbit and reminded, "You'll have to manage without pocket handkerchiefs and a good many other things, Bilbo Baggins before we reach our journey's end." Then he said, "You were born to the rolling hills and little rivers of the Shire."
As they walked continued down the path, Bilbo looked to Gandalf and asked, "Are you thinking of the Men and Women as well?"
"Indeed." Gandalf nodded as he thought about it. With a shake of his head he said, "I don't really know how to return them to their world. Nor do I know how their arrival will change things."
"Do you think that we'll be running into them again?" Bilbo asked the Wizard. Gandalf looked to the Hobbit and said, "Perhaps. But it is only a matter of time."
