Chapter Eight: Unbelievable Moments
It was an hour or two in the night as things were still peaceful. Most of everyone had fallen asleep. The only noises to be heard was the loud snoring coming from the Dwarves and Randy. A few moths were fluttering over a sleeping Bombur, and every time that the Dwarf took in a breath they would be sucked into his mouth. The Dwarf didn't seem to mind when he exhaled and the moths came fluttering back out. Not too far from the Dwarf, Bilbo was having a hard time sleeping with all the snoring, and being a few feet from the snoring Randy was enough to make the Hobbit get up. Monique leaned against the rock wall with Fili and Kili by the fire as they kept watch. Gandalf also remained awake to keep a watch for danger.
Bilbo walked past the sleeping Dwarves, Men and deactivated robot to the ponies and horses. Coming up to his mount, Bilbo looked about before reaching into his pocket and pulled out an apple. Petting the pony's mane she said, "Hello, girl. Who's a good girl?"
He looked back to the group before handing the pony the apple. The pony graciously took it while Bilbo said, "It's our little secret here, Myrtle."
He became aware when his ears heard the sound of screeching came from the distance. Even Nick woke up while Monique was put on edge from the noise. N.I.G.E.L. reactivated and scanned the surrounding area. Bilbo walked over and asked, "What was that? What's out there?"
"That sounded like Orcs." Kili said as he looked about in the distance. The word didn't seem to sit well with the Hobbit as he came closer and asked, "Orcs?"
Hearing the word 'Orcs' caused Thorin to jolt awake and look about. Fili then said, "They're throat-cutters. There'll be dozens of them out there."
Nick then asked, "How far away are the Orcs?"
"Sounded like they were a great deal away." Monique said as she looked to the distance. Gandalf looked to the brothers when Kili said, "Oh, for sure, the lone-lands are crawling with them." The raven-haired Dwarf then said, "They strike in the wee small hours just when everyone's asleep. Quick and very quiet, no screams. Just lots of blood."
"No foreign creatures, designation: Orcs, are not nearby." N.I.G.E.L. reported. Even with the reassurance, Bilbo started to get a little nervous as he looked out from the cliff. Fili and Kili look to each other before they start chuckling to themselves. Nick looked over to them and was about to say something. But one in the Company was not amused at all when Thorin questioned, "You two think that that's funny?"
Everyone awake looked to Thorin as he rose from his spot and he looked back to his nephews. Thorin looked very upset when he questioned, "Do you think that a night raid by Orcs is a joke?"
"We didn't mean anything by it." Kili said as the boys' faces fell at angering their uncle. Bilbo, Gandalf, the awake members of H.E.A.T. could see that the subject was greatly heavy on them. Thorin walked away while angrily saying, "No, you didn't. You know nothing of the world."
Gandalf watched as Thorin passed by him and stopped next to the cliff. Balin rose from his spot and walked over to the brothers. He then said, "Don't mind him, laddie." With a sigh he said, "Thorin has more cause than most to hate Orcs."
"Why is that?" Elsie asked as she and Mendel both woke up. They all looked to the prince as Balin said, "After the dragon Smaug took the Lonely Mountain from us, King Thror tried to reclaim the ancient Dwarf kingdom of Moria."
The old Dwarf shook his head as he remembered, "But our enemy had gotten there first…"

(Flashback)
Long ago, the Dwarves of Erebor had long left the Lonely Mountain and came to a mountain range where the kingdom of Moria was. But they were met by a large army of Orcs. Dwarves fought against Orcs outside a large set of gates. Swords clashed, hammers bashed, axes slashed and souls on both sides fell under one from the other side. Thror, Thrain, Thorin, a younger Balin, Dwalin and many Dwarves stood their ground against the Orcs.
"Moria had been taken by legions of Orcs…" Balin continued the story. A large pale Orc charged through the ranks of Dwarves and knocked many away with his large mace. The Dwarves he knocked aside were sent flying before crashing to the ground, "led by the most vile of all their race: Azog the Defiler."
Thror and Azog locked eyes on each other before moving to engage. Azog said something in Black Speech and raised his mace. Azog brought his mace down and it clashed with Thror's shield and the Orc continued trying to defeat the Dwarf king, "The giant Gundabad Orc had sworn to wipe out the line of Durin."
\_|_/
"Sounds like he was pretty nasty." Elsie commented. Bilbo, Mendel, N.I.G.E.L. and Nick all looked over to Thorin but didn't say anything. Balin nodded and continued, "Aye was lass. And he began by beheading the king."
A good number of eyes widened from it in shock.

(Flashback continues)
Azog roared in victory as he raised the king's severed head from the body. Thorin looked up in disbelief at the sight. With no remorse or guilt, Azog tossed the severed head to the ground. Thorin watched with wide eyes as the head hit the ground and tumbled across the battlefield. Thorin shouted, "No!"
Thorin then looked up the Orc who killed his grandfather before raising his sword in anger.
\_|_/
"That's so horrible." Mendel said, starting to feel truly sorry for the Dwarf prince. Some of the others started to waken from their sleep as well. Balin then said, "Thrain, Thorin's father, had been driven mad with grief." With a shake of his head, he said, "He went missing. Taken prisoner or killed we did not know.
"We were leaderless." He said, as if feeling the despair of losing Thror and the battle once more.

(Flashback continues)
"Defeat and death were upon us." The Orcs started killing off Dwarves by either cutting them down with their weapons or throwing them from high spots. The Orcs were truly overrunning the Dwarves and it seemed like victory was at hand for the Orcs.

Bilbo and the Men and Women and the robot looked to Balin as a proud smile adorned his face. He remembered when hope came again, "That is when, I saw him."
They turned their attention to Thorin once again. Balin nodded, "A young Dwarf prince facing down the pale Orc."

(Flashback continues)
Thorin glared at the large Orc as Azog came at the Dwarf prince. Azog growled as he started spinning towards Thorin with his mace outstretched. The blow might not have hit Thorin, but it did disarm him of his shield. He moved to block another swing from Azog, but the Gundabad Orc disarmed him of his weapon as well, "He stood alone against this terrible foe."
Azog then roared again while Thorin tumbled down a small hill. When he stopped, Thorin looked up to his foe and his eyes widened when the pale Orc came after him. Thorin backed away and looked for something that he could defend himself with. An Oaken branch sat on the ground until Thorin grabbed it. The Dwarf moved out of the way when Azog brought his mace down. Thorin used the branch to deflect the mace when it was swung at him, "His armor rent, wielding nothing but an oaken branch as a shield."
Each swing seemed to push Thorin down each time while Azog was relishing in his foe's torment. One final swing of his mace caused Thorin to fall onto his back. Azog spun around before raising his mace high into the air. But as he brought it down, Thorin grabbed a Dwarvish sword and swung up with a yell. The blade cleanly sliced through Azog's arm at the elbow. The Defiler roared in pain and humiliation at the loss of his limb. The other Orcs looked to their leader and it cost a few of them their lives, "Azog the Defiler learned on that day that the line of Durin would not be so easily broken."

The other Dwarves and Randy had been awakened by the story and were looking to Balin while he was telling the story. The H.E.A.T. team seemed really amazed by the story. And though he didn't look back, Thorin too was thinking about that day.

(Flashback continues)
Thorin yelled something in Dwarvish while pointing his sword at gates of Moria. Azog was being pulled into the Dwarf kingdom by a pair of Orcs so they could treat his grave wound. The other Dwarves rallied behind their prince as he ordered them to follow him in Dwarvish. Thorin and the other Dwarves ran forward and clashed the remaining Orcs outside the gates. Both sides gave war cries as they drew closer to each other. The battle went differently this time as the Dwarves were able to cut down their Orcish foes. Though some of the Dwarves fell, the others were able to stand and fight against the Orcs. Thorin ducked under a swing from an Orc before slashing his foe's legs and then bringing his sword down on the Orc. He turned and fought another Orc off, "Our forces rallied together and we drove the Orcs back."
A younger Balin was able to bash one Orc in face while a mohawked Dwalin cut another down his axes. Thorin continued fighting off one Orc after another, "And our enemy had been defeated."
\_|_/
Both Balin and Dwalin were shaking their heads at the memories, knowing that the battle did not entirely go well. H.E.A.T. listened to the story and felt very sad for the two as did a few others in the Company. Balin then said, "But there was no feast nor song that night…"
\_|_/
(Flashback continues)
"For our dead were beyond the count of grief." The surviving Dwarves of Thror's army looked amongst the dead Dwarves and Orcs. A good deal of them were sad for their loss. Some of the Dwarves hugged their loved ones in sorrow, "We few had survived."
But as they began to collect their dead, a weeping Balin looked up to see a sight he would never forget. Thorin stood a top of a body ridden hill still holding his sword and oaken branch. The light shining down on the prince, making him look like a true Dwarf king, "And I thought to myself then, there is one whom I could follow."
(End of flashback)

"There is one," Balin said with a nod as he looked over to the Dwarf prince, "who I could call king."
Thorin then turned away from the cliff and back to the Company. He found everyone; Dwarf, Man, Woman, Robot, Hobbit and Wizard looking at him. Thorin didn't say a word as he walked back to them. Something wasn't sitting well on Bilbo's mind as he looked to Balin and asked, "And the Pale Orc?"
Balin looked to the Hobbit when Bilbo asked, "What happened to him?"
"He slunk back into the hole from whence he came from." Thorin bitterly said as he walked past the others. Sounding confident he said, "That filth died of his wounds a long time ago."
Gandalf, Balin, and some of H.E.A.T. looked to each other as if they were all thinking the same thing. They were feeling uneasy if the Orc was truly dead or not. Balin looked to the group and said, "You lot try to get some sleep. It's time for someone else to keep watch."
"Okay." Monique said as she moved to go lay down. N.I.G.E.L. rode up to watch over the Company and said, "Don't worry, fellas. I'll keep an eye on ya."
"Uh, Randy." Mendel groaned to the hacker with an annoyed look. Randy could only laugh a little as he laid down. Thorin and Gandalf also stayed awake for a little while longer.

Across the ridge on another cliffside, the Company was being watched from afar. A group of grotesque creatures slightly stepped into the light. While some were gross human-like monsters, there also monstrous wolf-like monsters, but there also giant rat creatures as well. Riding on the back of one of the large wolflike creatures, an Orc wearing a crude set of Orcish armor, held a spear in his left hand. Looking to a subordinate, the Orc, by the name of Yazneg, commanded in Black Speech, "(Send word to the Master, we have found the Dwarf-scum. And the Men are with them as well.)
"(And let them know that the Men's pet isn't with them.)" Yazneg said with a sadistic grin.

H.E.A.T. and Godzilla's Earth…
The U.S. military had completely seized the mysterious bunker after the disaster that caused the team's disappearance. Major Hicks stood in the room where the device remained inactive. It had been at least over a week since the incident had happened and Hicks still wasn't too thrilled that they were no closer to brining the team back. Soldiers and scientists were going about trying to find out what the device was. One of the scientists walked up to the Major and Hicks asked, "What have you got for me, Doc?"
"All we've mainly discovered is that this thing isn't made of any Earth based technology." The scientist informed. Hicks nodded and said, "Yeah, I kind thought so myself."
"We see some similarities to the technology of the Tachyons." The scientist said. This surprised Hicks and he asked, "Are you sure?"
The scientist nodded to confirm this. Then Hicks asked, "Think you can use it to bring H.E.A.T. back to us?"
"We're trying to figure out the controls now, sir." The scientist told him. Hicks could only sigh when his satellite phone started going off. He nodded to the scientist before answering, "Major Hicks.
"Audrey, we've talked about this." Hicks rubbed his forehead when he recognized who was calling. Glancing to the machine he said, "No. I am not closer to bringing Nick and the others back from wherever they are.
"No I don't believe that." Hicks shook his head. Then he reminded, "Mostly, when I think of all the trouble that those guys gets into, it usually turns out all right.
"Look, we're doing all that we can. I promise." Hicks promised before hanging up. A couple of soldiers walked up to him and Hicks questioned, "Any idea who owns this block?"
"Not yet, sir." One of the soldiers shook his head. Hicks looked to the other soldier and asked, "What are the higher ups saying, O'Neal?"
"Due to the fact that there is unidentified technology in the city's civilian area…" O'Neal started, "They and the mayor of the city feel that H.E.A.T.'s inability to deal with it should be called into questioning."
"Inability to deal with it?" Hicks questioned with a little anger. Then gesturing to he machine, "From what Audrey and Animal told us about that new creature, they were walking into a trap."
"That's only what they told me to tell you, sir." O'Neal saluted. Hicks sighed and said, "At ease, soldier. Just go and see if you can look for clues."
"Yes, sir." Both soldiers said before walking off. Hicks looked back at the machine again and wondered if he would see H.E.A.T. or Godzilla ever again. Suddenly, he was brought out of his thoughts when a soldier came running up. The soldier was shouting, "Sir! Sir!"
"What?" Hicks questioned as the soldier stopped before him. The soldier presented a video tape and said, "We were able to locate a monitoring room and found this."
"Security footage?" An interested Hicks said and took the cassette tape from the soldier. Looking to the soldier he ordered, "Show me where this room is. Maybe we can get a better idea of what we're dealing with."
"Yes, sir." The soldier said before leading Hicks the way he had come.

Author's Note: I'm gonna stop it here and begin once again on H.E.A.T.'s world. I plan for it to get a little crazy. But before I do, let me know who you want to see in this story, whether it be human or Mutation. And just a little heads up, there will be no Tachyons featured in this story. Though there is alien tech being used, it doesn't mean that we're going to see any aliens. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
