A/N: Who's ready for a run through the country side! We see a lot more new faces along with the Orcs and Wargs in this chapter.

Chapter Fourteen: The Run
Outside of the forest where the Company was hiding in, the majority of the Orc pack hunting them stood outside the tree line. It had been a few minutes since they had sent a couple of scouts inside to look for their prey. Yazneg looked about when they all heard howls and screeches of pain coming from the forest. Yazneg looked back to his forces and commanded, "(Find them and draw them out.)"
"(And be snappy about it.)" A man with grey hairs and a hunter's outfit snapped in Black Speech when he urged his Giant Rat forward a little. While the majority of the Orcs went in, the man growled to himself, "I can't believe that Hank and that tree hugger girl weren't able to do this right when they had the chance.
"Guess I'll have to pick up their slack." He smirked when raising a scary looking spear. He held it to the woods when Yazneg snapped at him, "(Silence, fool!"
"Don't tell me what to do, Fang Face." The man snapped back. Another voice joined them and had a glare when she said, "Will the two of you just shut up? You're starting to drive me crazy."
They looked to see Alexandria riding her own Giant Rat. But before the arguing could continue, they heard something close by and prepared themselves. But a little ways down the tree line, a few somethings burst out at high speed. Radagast, Major Hicks and O'Neal sped from the forest and they all glanced back at the baffled pack. Alexandria pointed to them and ordered, "(Call the others back! And after them!)"
"Don't boss us around!" The hunter of the group shouted in defiance. But they ended taking off after the three anyway. O'Neal looked to the others and asked, "What do we do now?"
"Just lead them away, soldier!" Was all Hicks shouted back. Radagast looked to the pursuing pack and shouted with a laugh, 'Come and get us! Ha, ha!"
"How is this fun to you?" O'Neal shouted to the Wizard. Radagast just kept on laughing when he looked to the soldier. They looked back to the pursuing pack and noticed a few getting too close. Major Hicks quickly whipped out his pistol and let loose a single shot that hit the Warg in the side. The large wolf-like creature yelped as it fell to the ground.
A Giant Rat Mutation managed to sneak up on Hicks and his mount and leapt at the horse. The equine whinnied in a panic and it ended up throwing Hicks off. The major yelled as he hit the ground and rolled onto his knees. O'Neal looked back to see his commander in trouble and turned his horse back to help. O'Neal raised his own pistol and opened fire when a Giant Rat or a Warg got to close to Hicks. Hicks was unable to reclaim his steed as the horse had turned and ran away. When he was close enough, O'Neal put his weapon away and extended his free arm. Hicks was able to grab a hold of the appendage and was pulled onto the back of O'Neal's horse. He secured himself before whipping his weapon back out and kept their pursuers at bay as they raced to catch up to Radagast.
Back at the forest, the Company came out of the forest and saw that the coast was clear. They all quickly ran up to some rocks before looking around to see the Trio disappearing over a hill with the pack right after them. While those in the Company didn't know who was with the Orcs, those of H.E.A.T. did. When their enemies were gone, Gandalf gestured to the Company, "Quickly now."
Everyone started running across the land, but made sure to stay quiet to avoid the pack detecting them. When they saw that they were clear to keep moving, they took the advantage. The Wizard, Dwarves, Humans and robot all made sure to keep behind the rock formations that littered the open hills. The sounds of the howling Wargs and the screeching Giant Rats could be heard from a few hills over.
The Trio continued to race through the rocky hills while the pack started to catch up to them again. Hicks kicked a Warg in the face while O'Neal continued to steer their horse. Radagast was able to whack an Orc off their mount with his staff and swerved out of the way when a Giant Rat Mutation came in from the side. Hicks looked to Radagast and shouted, "Split up and try to regroup!"
"Aye!" The Wizard nodded before the three broke off from each other.
The Company continued to run around the large rock formations while keeping hidden when they heard that the chase was getting really close. Thorin took up the lead while Monique and Nick brought up the rear. But as they were coming up another hill, they stopped when the chase was happening right in front of them. They saw both Hicks and O'Neal riding on a horse going one way while Radagast on his sled went another. The pack seemed to separate as well to try and catch them. Gandalf gestured for them to follow and said, "Stay together everyone."
"Move, now!" Thorin shouted as they all started running again. Everyone stayed close together as they tried to keep their distance from the chase.
Radagast looked about and saw a particular rock formation. Getting an idea, he steered the sled to it. When he was close enough, Radagast ducked down to avoid ramming into the rock. But an Orc wasn't so lucky as they were knocked off their Warg while the others of the pack went around. Even the Warg the Orc was riding continued the chase.
Over with the two soldiers, Hicks and O'Neal looked to see the pack gaining on them. O'Neal looked to the front again and asked, "Any suggestions?"
"Not at the moment." Hicks shook his head. Then he wished aloud, "But I do wish that I had more than a pistol. A grenade of any kind would be useful right about now."
"I couldn't agree more." O'Neal nodded. He happened to notice something ahead and ordered, "Go through that tight spot. It'll make it difficult for them!"
"Roger." O'Neal responded and steered the horse that way. The horse was able to clear the narrow gap while the Wargs had to slow down to avoid ramming into each other. The Giant Rats however were able to jump over the tight spot and continue the chase while the Orcs and Wargs had to take things more slowly.
The Company ran alongside another giant rock formation when Thorin came to a stop once again. He stopped the others from running when he could see the chase happening a few hills over to the right. But the youngest of the Dwarves started to run past him and Thorin grabbed him, "Ori, no! Get back."
They all looked around the rock to see Radagast, O'Neal and Hicks rejoin together as they sped away. The Trio disappeared down another hill. When the coast was clear again, Gandalf urged the Company forward, "This way, all of you! Quickly now!"
They started running again with him, Thorin and Nick bringing up the rear. While the others ran ahead, Thorin looked to the Wizard and questioned, "Where are you taking us?"
"Anywhere safe as far as I'm concerned." Nick said as the three started running after the others again. Thorin just huffed when Gandalf didn't say anything.
The Trio had gained some ground away from the pack as they sped through the country side. And when a few Orcs, Wargs or Giant Rats were able to surprise them by getting really close, Hicks or O'Neal would shoot at them. But a Giant Rat and a Warg with an Orc on its back stopped chasing after the three when a scent came to them. The Orc then steered the Warg away from the chase while the Giant Rat Mutation followed after him.
The Company continued running their own path as they followed after Gandalf. But once again, they had to stop when they saw the chase happening not too far from them. Randy muttered, "Why can't they just lead them in the opposite direction from us?"
"Because the opposite of us tends to lead back to us." Monique said. They were both silenced when Thorin said, "Quiet!"
And he had good reason when they heard the sounds of growling coming from the other side of the rock. Up above, both the Giant Rat and the Warg came up to the top of the rock formation. Both the Warg and Rat started sniffing about to find the Company.
Down below the three, Thorin was able to see them before giving a nod to Kili and his bow. Kili took a quick moment to prepare himself while placing an arrow to his bow string. Then he quickly moved into position and took aim. The Orc saw the Dwarf and pointed its weapon at Kili. The Dwarf let the arrow fly just as the Giant Rat jumped down at him. Nick tackled Kili out of the way while the arrow struck the Warg in the shoulder. Monique came in with her sword and slashed into the Mutation's side. She had to move out of the way when the Orc and Warg came tumbling down the rock and collided with the Giant Rat. All three enemy creatures growled in pain and the Rat let loose a loud screech, making the Company nervous. The Orc started to pull himself from the pile and raised its horn to alert the pack. But Randy was quick to move and kick the horn from the Orc's hand. When he snarled at the hacker, Dwalin was quick to rush in and brought his axe down. The Warg and the Mutation both tried to rise to their own feet, but a few swings of swords and hammers caused them to loudly screech in pain.
The pack stopped its pursuit of the Trio when they heard the sounds of screeching in the distance. Radagast, Major Hicks and O'Neal continued riding away and only the two soldiers noticed that the pack wasn't following them anymore. Hicks looked back to see that the Company had been found out and shouted to Radagast, "They've been made! We need to turn around and help them!"
"Our rides can't go on like this!" Radagast shouted back to him. He reasoned, "If we go back right now, my rabbits and your remaining horse will lose what remaining energy they have."
"And then we'll be sitting ducks." Hicks said and hung his head. Glancing back he said, "I'm sorry, Nick. Hopefully, if we make it through this, we'll have your back better."
The three continued to ride away and left the Company to take care of the pack. The pack back tracked to see where the sound of the screeching. They heard the sounds of battle a few hills over just when the screeching was stopped suddenly. On their ridge, Yazneg shouted, "(The Dwarf-scum and the humans are over there! Get them!)"
The Company looked down to the three dead bodies when the sounds of howls came from a distance. Knowing what that meant, Randy shouted, "Let's get out of here!"
"Agreed." Gandalf nodded. Looking to everyone he shouted, "Run, run!"
"I miss not having to run so much!" Mendel whined as they started running again. Dori looked to the roboticist and reminded, "But you run practically every day where you come from."
"Touché!" Mendel huffed in agreement.
Their run through the country took them out of the hills with the rocks and into hills now dotted with small pine trees. Glancing back at the gaining pack, Mendel shouted, "N.I.G.E.L. give us some cover!"
"Roger, roger!" N.I.G.E.L. said like a certain type of droid. The robot turned around and started moving backwards before converting his arm into the mini-gun. He opened fire and it caused the pack to disperse. They soon came upon a hill that had a really big rock formation. Knowing what it was, Gandalf gestured for them to follow him, "This way! Quickly now!"
"Right behind ya!" Randy shouted as they continued running. Yazneg, one of the hunters and Alexandria appeared on a hill in front of the Company and everyone looked to them. They all formed a circle when Kili shouted, "There's a lot more coming this way!"
The only Wizard of the group was able to sneak away while the others prepared to fight. Monique quickly reloaded her weapon before pulling her sword back out. The other four H.E.A.T. team members quickly whipped out their weapons just as N.I.G.E.L. still had his mini-gun out. But when the robot went to fire it, nothing came out of the barrel. Randy looked to Mendel and asked, "Uh, you wouldn't happen to have brought more ammo for him, would you."
"Next interdimensional trip, I'll be sure to remember some." Mendel sheepishly said. Elsie shook her head, "Wonderful. We're going to die in an open field."
"There are worse ways to go." Monique countered, making a good deal of the Company look to her. While Bilbo unsheathed his new sword, Thorin shouted, "Kili! Monique! Shoot them!"
Both long range weapon holders let an arrow or a bullet fly at whatever got too close. Fili looked about and shouted, "We're completely surrounded on all sides!"
"Where did Gandalf go?!" Dori shouted, wondering where he had gone. The Company came closer to the rock formation where Gandalf had disappeared to and Dwalin had growled, 'He's abandoned us!"
"He's been with us so far, Dwalin, you'd really think that he'd abandon us now?" Both Bilbo and Nick questioned the Dwarf. The two glanced at each other with questioning looks. Elsie then agreed by saying, "Maybe he's trying to find a way out of this mess."
Yazneg gave a dark grin as he and his mount came closer. Two Giant Rat Mutations flanked him and Nick shouted out, "What happened to Hank, Dale?"
"None of your business, City Boy." Dale shot back. Ori fired a few rocks with his slingshot, but they only smacked harmlessly off the Wargs' heads. Randy leaned to the Dwarf and said, "Uh, that just made them only angrier."
"I thought it was a long shot." Ori said as the two moved backwards. Knowing that the odds were really against them, readied his new sword and shouted, "Hold your ground, everyone!"
The others in the Company prepared their weapons while there were a few worried faces here and there. The pack started to close in on them and they all prepared to defend themselves. But lucky for them, Gandalf emerged from behind a rock and shouted to them, "This way, you fools! All of you!"
"Told you he wouldn't abandon us." Randy said, earning a few questioning looks from his friends. Mendel shouted, "Who cares who said what?! Just run!"
Everyone immediately broke into a run for the Wizard. Thorin shouted, "Come on, move! Go!"
Randy, Dori, Ori and Nori were the first to make it to Gandalf and disappeared behind the rock. While most were making a Bee-line to whatever Gandalf had found, both Monique and Kili were providing cover fire to aid in their escape. The rest of the Company followed with it being Elsie, Fili, N.I.G.E.L., Oin and Gloin. The others quickly ran while the spy and the Dwarf killed a few.
"Down we go." Mendel said as he and Bilbo were the next to go.
The pack was becoming a confused when the Company was disappearing into thin air behind the rock. Dale shouted, "(Don't let them get away!)"
Some Wargs and Giant Rats complied and rushed forward to catch their prey. When everyone else had disappeared down the hole behind the rock, Thorin shouted to the two, "Kili, Monique! Let's go! Run!"
"Right." Both said before hightailing it for cover. A Warg chased after them and Thorin and Nick came in with a swing of their swords. The wolf-like creature fell to the ground and they made a run after their comrades. Down below in the hole, Gandalf was counting the Company as they came sliding down, "Ten, eleven, twelve…"
Before he came down, Kili turned and fired another arrow that hit an Orc in the head. It fell to the ground dead while he jumped down. Nick and Thorin were the last to bring up the rear as they jumped down into the hole.
When the two rejoined the others in the hole, they looked back up to the opening when the sound of a horn was heard. Elsie looked to Gandalf and asked him, "What now?"
"I don't think it's anything to worry about." Gandalf said with a twinkle in his eye. Everyone in the Company didn't know what to do or say as they waited and listened for what happened next.
Back up on the surface, an arrow was fired and it hit an Orc in the side of the head. The pack looked to see a bunch of armored riders coming towards them. Their numbers caused the pack to start panicking and the riders chased after them.
Down below, the Company could only hear what was going on up there. They could hear the sounds of metal clanging, sickening slashing sounds and the thumping of bodies when they hit the ground. Randy took a few deep breaths and said, "Sounds like someone's giving those guys a challenge."
"Aye." Dwalin agreed with a nod. Fili looked to Nick and asked, "I thought your friends would have come back to help us?"
"They probably had their reasons." Was all Nick could say.
Back up top, the riders were winning against the pack as a few more Orcs fell. One of the riders shot an arrow at an Orc and it not only knocked the Orc off the Warg, but it ended up knocking into a Giant Rat Mutation and it in turn fell down into the opening. While Elsie, Mendel and Randy cried out when it and a piece of the arrow that killed the Orc fell towards them, Gandalf stepped forward and slashed his sword across the Mutation's face. The Rat squealed in pain before Dwalin came running up from the side and brought a hammer down on it. A few swings put the giant rodent out of its misery.
"(Signal a retreat!)" Alexandria ordered Yazneg. While the Orc only glared at her with a snarl, he still shouted to those still alive, "(Retreat! Move!)"
The pack complied and started to retreat, knowing that they had lost this day. The riders stopped their horses to watch as the pack fled into the wilderness.
Down below, Thorin reached for the broken arrow piece and picked it up. He took a quick look at it and instantly realized who made it. Looking to the others he bitterly said, "Elves."
Throwing down the arrow piece, they all looked back up to the opening. They soon heard the riders leaving and Randy asked, "Do you think it's safe to go back up?"
"No doubt that the Orc pack might be waiting for us to leave." Nick said as he continued gazing up at the opening. Mendel then asked, "Maybe we could stick with the Elves then?"
"Not a chance." Thorin shot the idea down. Dwalin and N.I.G.E.L. looked about the cavern and saw an opening. The Dwarf and the robot moved to it and looked to see a path leading somewhere. Dwalin looked back and said, "We cannot see where the path leads from here. Do we follow it or not?"
"To follow, or not to follow. That is the question." N.I.G.E.L. said, earning a look from Dwalin. Bofur then answered the question by nodding, "Follow it, of course."
Everyone started to move single file to the opening with Dwalin leading the way and Gandalf bringing up the rear. Even Gandalf thought it was a smart idea when he said, "I think that would be a wise idea."

Hunting Party…
The Orc pack had managed to put some distance between them and the Riders. Dale looked to Yazneg and questioned, "(Why didn't we stay and fight. We could have held our own with those yahoos.)"
(The Elves would have over run us, you fool.)" Yazneg snapped at the hunter. But before the two could start arguing, Alexandria shouted, "(Enough! We need to regroup and get some reinforcements.)"
While Dale had no problem with being prepared, Yazneg was feeling greatly nervous. He knew that they would be going back would mean admitting to failure, which is something his master did not approve of. But the Orc knew had no choice as the surviving members of the hunting party started to head back to where they had been sent from; Weathertop.

Elsewhere…
The Trio had come to another forest when the stopped their rides. Everything from the rabbits to the horse was trying to calm themselves from the whole ordeal. Hicks dismounted before O'Neal followed after him. Radagast joined the two soldiers as they all looked back to the rolling hills behind them. O'Neal looked to Hicks and Radagast to ask, "Do you think that they're okay?"
"They've been through a lot worse." Hicks said, even though he was worried for them. Radagast was the same, but knew that they would be fine when he said, "They will no doubt be okay. If Gandalf has led them to where I believe he was intending, then they will be safe."
While the two soldiers kept a watch for the hills, Radagast turned and noticed something in the forest. He walked to it and it caught the other twos' attention. Major Hicks walked over and asked, "What did you find, Radagast?"
"A most peculiar sight." Radagast said when Hicks and O'Neal joined him. They came across a large footprint that had was in the shape of a four-pointed star. Hicks instantly recognized it and said, "There's only one Mutation I know of that will make tracks like that."
"And there's another trail." O'Neal pointed a little further down. They looked to see a long groove dug into the forest floor. Hicks couldn't believe it when he said, "Both C-Rex and King Kobra. But that's impossible. They're supposed to be on Monster Island."
"What if they had been brought here when we were?" O'Neal asked, raising a good point. Major Hicks nodded as he had seen weirder things, but this raised a lot of questions. Questions that he felt running by Nick and the rest of H.E.A.T. Looking to Radagast he asked, "Is there any way we can catch up to Gandalf and the others?"
"We can." Radagast nodded before taking a look at the sun. Then he advised, "But it would be best to set up camp here for the night. We have no idea what else could be roaming out there after dark."
"If you say so." Hicks reluctantly agreed. He looked to O'Neal and said, "Help me find some firewood. If we're going to be out here for a while, then we're going to need some light."
"Yes, sir." O'Neal saluted and the two headed off. Radagast looked back at the tracks and said, "The world is getting ever bigger and ever stranger. And I'm afraid I don't see it ending well soon."

Author's Note: The next chapter we'll be in Rivendell. And yes, this time, I have Radagast, Major Hicks and O'Neal present for the White Council chapter. I was originally going to fix my mistake from my earlier chapter and replace Hank with Dale, I decided to leave it seeing that it would work out either way. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
