I Do Not Own RWBY
The Setup
A few days had passed since Death spoke with me. After my brief chat with Ruby, I told my team about what Death had said to me. Not everything, but the key details. I left out the more personal parts from my debrief. My baggage stays with me.
I was walking through the Beacon commons when I spotted Sun and Neptune sneaking off towards the dorms. Feeling as if something was up, I decided to follow them. It wasn't until I watched them start to climb a tree next the dorms that I realized it.
"So, this is the day." I whispered to myself as I thought of how to make my entrance into this event. I quickly messaged my teammates and headed into the dormitory.
A few minutes later and I'm standing outside of team RWBY's room. I lean against the door to listen in on the conversation. I have to know how far they are into their discussion. Upon putting my ear to the door I immediately hear Sun's voice.
"Pfft, that's dumb. You should always get friends involved. That's why I brought Neptune."
I could imagine that Neptune was being pulled into the room through the window at that moment. Thinking this would be the perfect time to insert myself into the situation, I knocked. Opening the door only slightly, Ruby poked her head around the door to see it was me.
"Oh, hi Drew. Did you need or want to talk about something?" she asked.
I merely crossed my arms and asked "Did I hear something about getting more friends involved." At that she sighed and opened the door the rest of the way revealing a rather comical scene. Sun and Neptune were trying to hide out of sight from the door in the furthest corner while Yang was trying to hold them up.
"It's cool guys. I'm here to help." I say as they looked at me with quizzical looks.
After my brief insert Ruby continued with their plan. "Alright. I'll go with Weiss. Sun and Drew, you guys can go with Blake. And Neptune, you can go with Yang since she doesn't have a partner. Everyone good?"
At that Weiss interjected. "Actually Ruby, why don't you go with Yang? After all she is your sister."
"But Weiss, who would go with you then?"
"Well, I guess Neptune could come with me." She answered.
At that Ruby burst out laughing and snorted "Nah." As Weiss started to cry Ruby dragged her out of the room.
After that little exchange our two teams still left in the room split up and headed towards our goals. Along the way Sun pulled me behind. "You sure you're up for this? We're sneaking into a White Fang rally. If they see that you're not a faunus then we're screwed." he asked. Looking at him he actually looked concerned.
Putting a hand on his shoulder I answer, "I'll fit in fine. I may only be a half faunus, but it still counts." I try to leave it at that and pick up my stride to catch up with Blake. Sun walks on her other side as we made our way towards the Bullheads that'll take us down to Vale.
As we took our seats I noticed Sun looked a bit down. "I'm sorry for assuming too much." he apologized. "I feel like I overstepped by boundaries."
Feeling like it wasn't his fault for worrying about me, I tried to cheer him up.
"Na, it's cool. I won't hold it against you. Only when I want you to feel guilty about it." I smirked at him. He chuckled at that last comment.
"My teammates already know, but just in case if the enforcers at the rally ask I should probably tell you two as well." At this Blake perked up from her scroll. "My past is a strange one, but it's my past none the less. My mom was a full faunus, and my dad was the greatest huntsman in his region. They had met on a mission to eradicate a Lancer hive. They saved each other, and as dad said it when he told me how they had met, it was love at first blight."
Blake laughed at that one. "Ya I know. He always had corny jokes like that. Anyways, so they continued to see each other for a few years before having me, but my mom didn't want me or my dad to be discriminated against for being related to her so she left. Dad told me she died around the time I was three. Ever since then he raised me on his own, protecting me and our village. Him, and his team. That is until one day when all hell broke loose. The sky was filled with Nevermores and Griffons. Bodies littered the ground. To save me and my friends, my teammates, our parents held off the Grimm to their bitter end as we ran." As I ended my story, I found I was rubbing the back of my neck where my patch of scales were. "Now, I've chosen to except both sides of my lineage. To honor my mother and father." I know they weren't really my parents. I never really knew them, but I still had the memories weirdly enough. I could imagine the others had them too. I respected my new parents and what they did, even if I technically never met them before.
"Well, I hope you get your chance." Sun added.
"Thanks."
After landing in Vale we made our way towards the more shadier part of the city. Eventually making it there, it took us a little while to locate where the rally was actually taking place at. Reaching the location we started to prepare ourselves.
"This is it." Blake stated as we approached the site.
"You sure?" Sun asked. Both me and Blake both turn to look at him as if to ask if this place could be anything other than a White Fang rally.
"Y'know, I'm just gonna take your word for it." He admits.
As we walked in a member handed all three of us a mask to wear. "New recruits, keep to the right."
"I don't get it. If you believe what you're doing is right, why hide who you are?" Sun asked looking at the mask in his hands.
"The masks are a symbol." Blake answered. "Humanity wanted to make monsters out of us, so we chose to don the faces of monsters."
"But Grimm masks? That's kinda dark." He replies.
"So was the guy who started it." Blake answers somberly.
"Always sunshine and rainbows with you." Sun jokes.
I pat him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Eventually."
I walked up and saw that her hand had started to tremble. I held it as we walked inside.
"Nervous he's going to be here?" I asked knowing what's on her mind.
"A little. But whatever happens I know I at least have someone covering me this time." Together, the three of us walked into the crowd of recruits waiting for the rally to start.
Sorry this chapter was a bit short. When I wrote it I wanted this arc in the volume to be two parts so I cut this into the first part. Without the other team's perspectives there isn't a lot to work with. As for an update, I'm still writing the second half of this volume so there might be a break in uploads halfway through. Although I just finished something else I was working on so I'm going to try to focus more on writing now that that's out of the way. Also another thing my job moved me from second shift back to first shift, and I am not a morning person so I don't really get a lot done during the week days. most of my hobbies like writing and gaming get pushed to the weekend, and I get distracted by the littlest of things which makes everything take way longer than it should. Anyway, thank you for continuing to read and I hope you look forward to the future of this series.
Also just a little hint at the future. I might drop something pretty cool on my Youtube channel at the end of this volume. I have at least one thing done and ready to go, but I might also do something RWBY related there as well. I also have some gameplay videos up there at the moment, although I'm still working on finding my grove when it comes to recording that kind of stuff.
Thanks and see you next week!
