I Do Not Own RWBY

Highway to Hell

I felt out of my depth as we walked into the White Fang assembly. We were surrounded on all sides with potential enemies. As the three of us got into place, I kept a hold of Blake's hand. I'm glad I kept my bots on me. I unfortunately left my knife and pistol back in our dorm since I didn't think I would be needing them today.

Once everyone had filed into the room, the big White Fang member started his announcement.

"Thank you all for coming. For those of you who are joining us for the first time tonight, allow me to introduce a very special comrade of ours. I can assure you, he is the key to obtaining what we have fought for, for so long."

Stepping aside, he allowed Roman to take the stage. The crowd jeered around us as they saw him walk up. I scanned the stage and spotted Neo to the left, hiding in the shadows.

"Thank you, thank you! Please, hold your applause." He jests.

"What's he doing here" a random faunus yelled out.

"I'm glad someone asked. Now I'll be the first to admit, humans are the worst. Case in point. So I understand why you would love to see us all locked away, or better yet, killed. But! Before the claws come out…"

As Roman droned on with is speech, Sun leaned towards the two of us. "So, is he going somewhere with this or?"

"Would like to mention the fact that you and I ALL have a common enemy. The ones in control, the people pulling the strings, the dirty rotten humans that run our kingdoms. Government. Military. Even the schools, they're all to blame for your lot in life."

I silently nod. He does have a point in that regard. Even back in my original life that was the case. It unfortunately seemed to be universal.

The crowd started to cheer for Roman now. Looking over I saw that Blake was starting to look a little uneasy. I held her hand tighter.

"And they're all pests, that need to be dealt with. Fortunately, I'm the best exterminator around. No offense to any rodents in the room." He then snaped his fingers prompting the curtain behind him to lift revealing the Atlesian Paladin-290 prototype.

"Uh, that's a big robot." Sun says looking stunned.

"How the hell did he get that" Blake pondered.

"As some of you may have heard, this right here is Atlas' newest line of defense against all the scary things in the world. And thanks to my employer, we've managed to snag a few before they, uh, hit the shelves. Now, many of your brothers have already moved down to our new operation in the south east. If you'd rather stay within the city, that's fine. But if you\re truly ready to fight for what you believe in, this is the arsenal I can provide you. Any questions?" Roman finished.

As he ended his speech the crowd's cheering grew. Their fists raised in the air. Amid the chaos and noise Blake turned to me. "We should get out of here."

"Will all new recruits please come forward." shouted an announcer.

"Welp." Sun mumbled. The faunus around us started to move forward leaving us as the only three still standing still.

Sun leaned over and ask "What're we going to do?"

"I'm thinking." Blake shot back at him.

"I think he sees us." stated Sun as he looked over at Roman still on stage.

Roman perked up as he first noticed Blake and Sun, then I see in his face that he noticed that I'm standing there with them. Throwing away his cigar he began to walk towards us, to which Sun replied by waving nonchalantly.

"He can't see in the dark." Blake states having come up with her plan to escape from the rally.

As she's looking for the fuse box I saw Roman look straight at me as if he was asking what he should do. I simply take off the mask and wink at him as Blake shoots the lights out and all hell breaks loose.

Now I don't necessarily have the eyesight of a faunus, but it's still better than human. I follow Black and Sun as they jumped up onto the cat walk behind us and smash through the closest window to the outside. As we fell out onto the pavement below I could hear the mech start to rev up. Jumping over a car I look back and see Roman smash through the wall of the warehouse we were in and give chase.

As we began to jump over rooftops with the mech running parallel to us a few streets over Sun yells "So, we wouldn't happen to have, oh I don't know, some form of backup?"

"Already on it." Blake answers. Pulling out her phone she dials the rest of the team. "Everyone! If you can hear me we need backup!"

"AHHHHHHHH!" Sun yells just barely avoiding an attack. I barely manage to deflect a shot myself as we keep running.

"They got a robot, and it's big. Really big!" He yells.

"I'd say it's more of a medium sized robot. I've seen bigger." I added.

"The Torchwick guy's in it! But not like, it didn't eat him. He's like controlling it or something!" Sun screams.

"Yes, he's controlling it. Can we get to the point and get some help please?!" I finished.

As we're running I barely heard Yang talking over Blake's scroll. "Where are you guys?"

Sun screams again as we run past an alley. I spot Yang and Neptune on her bike and I wave as we passed by.

A couple blocks later and we jump straight onto the free way, Roman's mech crashing down behind us as we start to jump from car to car. Behind him I catch a glimpse of Yang and Neptune trying to catch up to him.

Trying desperately to catch us, Roman started throwing cars out of his way. Luckily for the people in the cars I informed my team to the situation earlier. As the cars came crashing down behind Yang's bike I spotted my team jump up onto the freeway and start rescuing everyone they could. Lucas softening landings with his shadows, Iris jumping through cars to grab the people and Aiden securing them and making sure they weren't seriously injured.

Finally, Yang had caught up to us enough to where Neptune had started firing his weapon at Roman. After firing a few shots at him, Neptune transformed his rifle into it's trident form and leapt onto the robot's back.

"Neptune, hang on!" Sun shouted before using his semblance to send two clones to attack Roman. After they hit, Sun jumped off of the truck to try and hit Roman and save Neptune only to have Neptune thrown at him and hit him in mid air.

I jumped after Sun to try and get them back into the fight only to have their combined weight pull me over the edge of the highway, and out of the fight. I managed to slow my fall with some gravity dust while Sun twirled his bo staff to land softly. Neptune on the other hand landed on his back on top of a car, denting it and breaking his aura in the process. Off in the distance I heard a large boom. Roman must've finally fallen off of the highway.

After taking a second to catch our breath, Sun and I helped Neptune down from his roof.

"Are they going to be okay?" Neptune asked as we slung him over our shoulders.

"They'll be fine." I replied. Taking a second I noticed that we landed right next to the noodle stand. "Either of you wanna grab a bite to eat while we're down here?"

"I'll take you up on that. The girls can handle themselves. We'd just get in the way." Sun answered from the other side of Neptune. We dragged him over and sat him on the left most stool. Sun propped his weapon besides Neptune's as he takes the center stool, while I grabbed the one on the right.

After we got our ramen, Sun piped up. "Blake's lucky to have someone like you." I looked over at him a bit confused. Honestly I was a bit surprised by his statement.

"You don't have to worry. I won't interfere with your relationship. I'm not that kinda guy. Neptune on the other hand I can't account for." He says jokingly pointing at Neptune.

"Hey! Ouch!" Neptune yelps. He slightly winces. I see that the pain of landing on a car roof hasn't gone away yet.

"The two of you have something special." Sun continued. "I don't want to ruin anything you guys have, so would it be okay if we're all still friends?"

I grabbed his shoulder and pulled him in for a bro hug. "We would be honored to have you as a friend." At that Sun smiled.

"Neptune on the other hand is a whole different story." I jested.

"Again. Right here. Ow!"

We ended up talking for a bit longer before deciding to head off back to Beacon. Before we left, I turned around and looked up at the sign above the noodle stand. "A Simple Wok indeed."

After arriving back at Beacon and making sure everyone was alright, I went back to my dorm room to find my team. As I closed the door behind me I heard a collective sigh from the three of them.

"You couldn't have told Roman to ease up on the collateral damage?" Lucas moaned.

As I took off my coat I responded, "I told him to act natural, and naturally he did."

"Well, he could have naturally cared more about civilians." Iris pointed out.

"Look. Can we focus on the bigger picture here folks." I stammered. "We're now one step closer to the end of this lie. All we have left before the tournament is the dance, and the train invasion."

"At least we can look forward to the dance." Lucas solemnly adds.

Sighing, I turn and sit down on my bed. "I'm sorry for my outburst. But all of this has been a bit strenuous, and it's only going to get worse from here. If I were you guys, I would enjoy this peace while it lasts."

"Ha, peace in our time." Lucas chuckled as we all hit our beds, racing to get to sleep.
