I Do Not Own RWBY
The Plight of Lucas
Drew and I always got along. He was like a little brother to me. All of them were, except of course Iris she was obviously like a little sister. Whenever any of them got bullied I would show up and deck whoever was harassing them. If any of them ever needed help moving, I was there. But now, I don't know what I am any more. Ever since we came here, Drew has changed. It's like he's a different person all of a sudden. He's the one making the plans and giving orders, and I'm left doing what? Apparently spying which is the plan that he gave to me after he found out that Cinder and her goons had finally arrived here at Beacon. They don't even do much, just sit around in their assigned dorm room and talk about evil stuff. What he sees in them I might never know, but he wants me to keep tabs on them since he wants to talk with them one on one using the dance to his advantage. I don't know what he plans on telling them, but we somehow managed to win over Roman and Neo so I have hope he'll pull through.
I can at least see his reasoning for selecting me to spy on the enemy for us. I've been honing my semblance as much as I can in my spare time to keep up with everyone else, and it's been paying off. Now I can not only merge with shadows and control them, but I can also use them for surveillance. By tapping into someone's shadow I can hear and sort of see what's going on around them. The picture is a bit fuzzy, but I'm working on it. I can also use them to move small objects. Mostly just coffee mugs and pens at the moment.
Eventually my targets turned in for the night, so I left my lookout to return to my own dorm for the night. On my way back though I almost ran into a group of people just getting back from Vale. I figured I'd just walk past them, but then I saw who it was. I quickly hid behind a corner and shrouded myself in darkness to avoid being noticed.
It was Iris and a few others that she had taken to Vale for a day out on the town. I had completely forgotten about it. She had taken Nora, Pyrrha, Ruby and, Yang.
I had to stop myself from using my semblance to hear what she was talking with Iris about. As they rounded the corner I let out my breathe that I was holding in. Why her? I've never felt like this before with anyone. Back in the old days I used to be the one that helped others with their relationship issues, and now here I am having my own. I collected myself after a few minutes and went a longer way to get back to my dorm. That night I didn't get much sleep.
The next morning was a blur. Drew gave some general orders then headed out to class early. Iris excused herself before heading off to team RWBY's dorm room. And Aiden, he just moved from reading on his bed to his desk. Wait, Aiden is pretty logical. Maybe he could help me?
"Hey Aiden. Have you ever had issues with women?" I asked cautiously.
He just looked up from his book with a furrowed brow. "Issues?"
I should have known he wouldn't be of any help. I just sighed and left for class early.
Class was pretty close to how school was back in our old lives. Although apparently we don't really have to care about it, or our grades since the school wouldn't survive the coming tournament arc. After class was over I split off from the others to get some training in. I entered the training room to the sound of physical distress. There were already a few others around using the equipment or sparring in the areas provided. I decided to leave my weapons back in our room and shore up my hand to hand combat today. I headed towards an area of the room with a few practice dummies and pulled one aside to hit.
I lost myself to the rhythm. I remembered back when I did this after school in my old life. I couldn't be useless. I had to be able to square up when needed to. Be able to dish out a beating to anyone who would dare threaten those I knew.
After a while I was coated in sweat. Taking a break I grabbed some water and slid down to the floor for a little rest. Feeling like I had enough time to catch my breathe I tossed the paper cup and headed back towards the dummy. I was about to start throwing hands again when a familiar voice rang out from the entrance.
"Don't you think he's had enough by now?" she asked.
I dropped my arms and turned toward her. Yang had entered the room. Of course it had to be her. Shit! Think of something witty to say in response!
"I've tried to tell him to stay down, but he just keeps getting back up." I retorted. Nice one.
Setting her gauntlets aside, she motioned over toward a sparring ring. "Come on. I wanna practice a few moves with you."
As I made my way towards the ring I had to stop myself from running out the door. My spine felt like it was ready to jump out of my body at any moment. As I stood face to face with her I couldn't help but chuckle to myself. After everything I've tried it just took a bit of training to get her to not totally hate me. Maybe my luck was turning around for the better? Maybe I hadn't lost my touch?
After a count of three we both rushed at each other. Since our last fight I had grown in combat experience, so I felt like I could finally pull out a win against her. After she dodged my first right cross and landed several blows to my ribs however, I didn't see an end to this fight that had me as the victor.
I did manage to survive a few minutes in the ring with her, but only barely. I ended up landing a few hits, but only minor jabs. She was after all pretty much a master at hand to hand combat.
After shattering my aura and punching my face into the ground, she unexpectedly helped me back up. "That was fairly decent, considering your weapon doesn't rely on close quarters combat."
"Thanks." I replied as I rubbed the newly formed bump on the back of my head. "Before I got my weapon I mostly relied on my fists."
"Impressive." Yang stated as she grabbed her gauntlets and made her way towards the door. As she was about to leave though, she looked back at me. "Although next time, try not to hold back on me. I can tell when someone isn't giving it their all." And with that, she left.
Was I holding back? As I sat down on a bench I thought about it for a second. Maybe subconsciously I was? Is that even possible? As I looked back at our fight I realized I was! I moved slower and didn't put all of my weight into my movements. She wasn't just sparring with me to train. She was sparring with me to learn more about me and how I felt towards her!
And then it hit me. She hates that I won't fight seriously! That I held back! For her there's never a reason to hold back.
Standing up like a rocket I looked around for the one person who could help me in my predicament. She was already helping someone else with a similar issue, so it shouldn't be a problem if I asked her for help. Locating her, I made my way over.
"Hey Pyrrha! I need to ask you something!"
I really hate weddings. I think I got sunburnt at this one, and I was only outside for like 30 minutes! Anyway, this will be the last chapter for a little while. I just managed to write the ending to this chapter before submitting it. This is the last chapter though before moving on with the story of Volume 2, so get ready to see the drama that will be the Beacon Dance.
In other news I am currently uploading my playthrough of Resident Evil Village over on my youtube channel, and holy shit is that game awesome. I am officially addicted to it. I've already played through it twice and I am now working on the achievements and mercenary mode. That doll house was the scariest part of that entire game.
Thanks again for reading.
