(Jace's Cabin)

It took Jace a few minutes to move to the couch. He could only crack his knuckles and try to push Leone's feet away from him.

The girl didn't move an inch. Jace could only roll his eyes as Leone downed another bottle.

"How do you get enough to pay for this?" Leone questioned only for Jace to hum.

"There are people who don't want the Empire to come back." Jace pointed out. "Plus, I kinda raided a rich jackass's mansion. Do you seem to forget that I knew if I brought you back? I kinda guessed that you'd like to drink." Jace pointed out as he cracked his neck.

Jace could only rub at his eyes for a moment. He looked at Leone. She shrugged and smirked at him before continuing to down the drink.

She wiggled her toes which brushed against Jace's arm. He blinked and looked at the brawler.

"Damn it, Leone," Jace muttered as he blushes and sighed as he wiped off his arm.

"You're such a baby," Leone muttered which caused Jace to sigh with annoyance and look at her once more.

"I'm still waking up." Jace put in as he leaned against the sofa. "I'm used to spending half the night planning missions. Oy, my damn head… Hand me one of those bottles." Jace put in as he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

He could only question what Leone was thinking. Jace hummed and cracked his neck before sighing.

"Hmm…" Jace hummed and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "Hey, Leone?" Jace questioned as he rubbed at his temples.

"Yeah?" Leone questioned, barely letting the bottle leave her parched lips.

"Did you used to spend whole nights awake?" Jace questioned and hummed. "Because when I was in the resistance's army? They used to make us wake up all the time. If they weren't busy getting drunk under the table? They were busy thinking we were all going to die." Jace stated while he tapped his fingers on the sofa behind him.

Jace watched Leone blink. She slowly turned to look at him. Jace pulled at his shirt.

"Well, Night Raid wasn't that much different." Leone said and cracked her back audibly. "We used to live base to base, only getting by on what we could find. Boss was afraid Esdeath and her army would knock down her front door." Leone stated which made Jace hum.

Jace turned and rested against the other armrest of the sofa. It creaked as he kicked out his own feet. Leone rolled her eyes and looked at Jace.

"How'd you get happen to get this place?" Leone questioned while tapping on the Sofa.

"Reward for the war effort," Jace stated and yawned. "This was a guard station or something. I led a group to take it from the Empire one night. We ripped them apart." Jace stated before he pushed himself up from the sofa.

Jace slowly walked to the coffee maker to put more coffee on. He turned to Leone who was busy pulling her knees up to her chest.

"Do you want any coffee?" Jace questioned and got a nod. "Ok," Jace stated while slowly working on the coffee maker.

"You're that tired?" Leone questioned as Jace shook his head.

"Not exactly," Jace said with a yawn as he watched coffee slowly drip down into the pot. "I'm just not that used to getting so much sleep. I told you, we used to wake up all the damn time in the morning. My body is more trying to get used to the fact that I got some sleep at all." Jace stated and turned back to the pot of coffee.

Jace watched each drop of caffeine drip down into the pot. It was more mesmerizing than anything.

Leone looked at the former resistance captain. He looked at the coffee maker with more intensity. Jace tapped his fingers on the counter in steady beats before he sighed.

"So as Night Raid as good as I heard?" Jace questioned while he leaned backward. "I heard that they're some of the best in the resistance. I heard you were the only person who the Empire didn't seem to know you were a member." Jace said which caused the lioness to perk up.

"As good as possible." Leone put in as Jace hummed. "What about you? I didn't hear a lot about the people in the trenches. The resistance army was only put under the boss towards the end of the war. I thought most of the army was wiped out." Leone stated and got a sigh from Jace.

"You're not wrong," Jace stated while opening the fridge to get something to eat. "That crazy plan to storm the capital? That ended up almost destroying the army. I lost some good soldiers." Jace said and grabbed into the fridge while he rolled his eyes.

He could only hum with frustration. The ideas running through his head were numerous, but he was far more annoyed than anything. He didn't want to reminisce about the fallen, it only reminded him of what happened.

"Hmm…" Leone responded while finishing the bottle. She put the bottle down on the table in front of her. "Yeah, that's tough. I know what that's like." Leone stated as Jace turned to look at her.

"Pardon?" Jace questioned as he pulled one of the sandwiches out of the fridge. "Really? I… Don't know how to talk about that." Jace said while he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

"War kills most people, Captain." Leone put in which made Jace sigh. "We both lost people putting down the empire. It isn't something we can dwell on." Leone added as Jace nodded and blinked.

"Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt," Jace said as he grabbed another 2 drinks and some food. "I wish Matias just screwed off or something. I'd be able to enjoy things… No, I have to put together another mission." Jace muttered with annoyance and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth with a sigh.

"Did you… Bring me back to life because you needed me for that… Or was it something else?" Leone questioned which made Jace turn to her.

"It's not exactly that easy to explain, Leone." Jace put in while he handed Leone one of the bottles in his hand. "But if you're asking if I brought you back just because you're a warrior? No, I didn't." Jace said while he sat down next to the lioness and rubbed his temples.

He looked at the lioness who was curious what would come next.

Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that some chapters might be delayed and such. The next chapter will be in 2-10 weeks or 2 months and will show more bonding, training, and set up some of Jace's past and such. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
