I went back and added a couple of things to chapters 1 and 2 to make this sweeter. They will be mentioned again in chapter 7 if you just want to wait it out. Otherwise, I finished watching SAO with my mom and she absolutely loved it. She's asked to watch it all again like 3 times. Best mom ever!
Chapter 6: Breaking Firewalls
With the first date behind him, Kazuto woke up bright and early for the next day. Well, not on his own volition. Yui had gone to sleep early the night before so her battery would be charged 100% and could wake him up early.
"Papa! Papa!" Her lightweight frame pounced on the bed waking both of her adopted parents.
Asuna was the first one to wake up. "Yui-chan? It's so early."
"Sorry, Mama. But I wanted to get an early start with Papa today."
Kazuto's vision cleared and found Yui smiling down at him. "Alright, let me go get a shower first. Got your outfit picked out?"
"Yea!"
"Good." He turned to his wife. "Asuna, could you please go make some coffee? I feel like I need to be more awake today to deal with your daughter."
Asuna giggled. "My daughter? She gets her persistence from you."
While her parents bickered, Yui stared in confusion. "But I'm artificial. How could I get anything from either of you?" Once again, her logic circuits got the best of her.
Kazuto pulled Yui into his chest. "You get your love of naps from me, don't you?"
"I hate that about you!"
"Only because you can't help falling asleep too." He held her tight and rolled over. "Speaking of sleep, let's stay for a little while longer. It's not even 8 yet."
Yui relented. "Fine. I need to top off my battery anyway." She nuzzled her way in between her Mama and Papa and fell asleep. Kazuto wasn't far behind her.
About an hour later, Kazuto woke again to find Yui sleeping on top of him. Luckily, she was very light and didn't cause any pain or pressure. He did notice that Asuna was gone. The smell of breakfast soon gave her position away. "Smells good. Time to get up Yui."
The android body stirred a bit and eventually lifted her head up. "Huh?"
"Mama's cooking breakfast. Smell it?"
Yui used her sensors in the body's nose to try and find what her Papa meant. "No, I can't."
"Hmmm, maybe we can update that."
She giggled and rolled off, now fully charged and awake. "When can we go to the gardens?"
"Whenever I've had a shower and something to eat. I know that you don't have to worry about eating or hygiene, but humans do." He rubbed her hair which was as close to the real thing as he could get. "I'm still amazed at you."
"What do you mean?"
"The fact that you're handling this body so well. It wasn't too long ago that you were uploaded into it and here you are taking it like a champ."
Yui pondered for a moment. "After practice, it became easy. Like hacking things to help you and Mama. Firewalls are much harder than this body."
"Silly girl. Come on, let's go find Mama."
"Hai!"
Together they descended the stairs and found Asuna singing in the kitchen while make breakfast. Kazuto smiled as his wife gracefully danced across the kitchen floor with ease. She would grab a slice or two of bread from the island counter behind her and twirl her way back to the stove. It was truly a sight to behold.
The father and daughter duo entered the open kitchen and watched as Asuna had her fun.
After the song she was singing was over, Kazuto spoke up. "I always forget you have a beautiful singing voice."
Shocked, Asuna almost dropped the coffee pot she was holding. "Eh? Kazuto-kun? Yui-chan? W-What are you doing here?"
"Getting breakfast, obviously." He walked over and took the pot from her trembling hands. He then wrapped his arms around her. "You excited for your day tomorrow?"
"Mmhmm." She nodded into his shoulder. Then she noticed Yui there with a smile. "Oh. S-Sorry, Yui-chan. He's yours today, not mine."
Yui just kept grinning. "Not at all. He's your husband while we're still here. Once we leave, he's all mine."
It was amazing to the two 'parents' that their android daughter was so understanding of them. Kazuto moved from his wife to his daughter. He placed his hand and patted her head. "You never cease to amaze me, Yui."
"Thank you, Papa. Now eat up! I want to get going!" She ran around him and grabbed his plate, his food and drink, and set them on the table. "Breakfast is served!"
Both Kazuto and Asuna stared at her, then at each other. In the end, they both just laughed.
Once they had eaten, Yui all but dragged him out of the house. Since she was still new to this world, she had never got to ride on his dirt bike. So, that was her first request for the day.
Kazuto helped her strap on the helmet and set her on the back of the bike. "Alright, hold on to me so you don't fall off."
"Hai!" Yui cheered as she held onto her father.
"Here we go!" Kazuto revved the bike's throttle, popped the clutch, and threw the bike into a rolling wheelie. This in turn got Yui cheering again. "Having fun?" He called back.
"Yea!"
The little dirt bike had never failed him once in the years he'd owned it. There was also something of a good luck charm on it. The license plate was special. The letter starting the plate was the Japanese symbol for 'A', the first letter of Asuna's name. The numbers that followed were '0930' the day that Asuna's birthday was, September 30th.
Within about 20 minutes, they'd arrived at the botanical gardens. Yui hopped off impatiently and all but dragged Kazuto off the bike as well. "Come on Papa!"
'Even being an AI, she's no different than a normal child.' He thought to himself as he placed his helmet on the back seat with Yui's. After locking the bike down, he followed his daughter. "Where are we off to?"
As far as the gardens went, it was more like an amusement park mixed in. There were gardens with flowers and trees, but there was another section with more oceanic themes and attractions. There was even a large fish tank. "I wanna see the cherry blossom trees!" She'd seen them before but never in person. It was always from the camera riding high on Kirito or Asuna's shoulder.
"Alright. We'll start over there." Kazuto walked around with Yui for about 2 hours, while she was leading him by the hand. "So? How is it? Is it everything you dreamed of?"
"Yea! With the scent receptors I can smell everything around me!" Before they left, Kazuto did an update to fix Yui's nose so she could actually use it. She twirled around happily as she took in the sights with her own eyes. Seeing things through these lenses made it seem like it did in SAO or ALO. It was very different than the camera that her Papa used to carry her around. After an hour of exploring the plants, Yui wanted to go see the sea creatures at the park. She once again began to pull Kazuto's hand towards the large fish tank. "Come on Papa!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming." He chuckled at her antics. "Slow down Yui! You're gonna pull my arm off."
Yui slowed down at her father's pleas. "I'm sorry, Daddy. I just want to have my day with you."
"I know, sweet heart. We have plenty of time. And if you go too fast, you'll run out of battery." He pulled out his phone, and opened a custom app. "Speaking of, you're already down to 70%. Best to take a rest and plug up to the battery I brought." As they moved to the bench, Kazuto pulled out large battery that he had charged the night before. "Alright, Yui, let's plug you up."
"Hai!" She reached down and lifted the bottom hem of her jacket. On the small of her back, the was a little 2 inch by 2 inch inlet for a plug. That same plug was in Kazuto's bag. They stretched the cable out and plugged her up. This got her feeling drowsy as it normally did.
Yui rested her head on his shoulder and his phone began to ring. "Hello?"
"Hey, Kazuto-kun. I hope I'm not interrupting your day out with Yui?" Asuna's voice came over the speaker.
"We're just taking a rest to get her to recharge a bit. She spent a lot of power already, so we need to top her off." Kazuto patted Yui's head. "Hey, Yui. Want to video call Mama?"
"Yea!" She waited from him to turn the phone to her. "Hi Mama!"
"Hey baby! Are you having fun with Papa?"
"It's amazing! It's so pretty out here. The trees are so pink!"
"I know, I know." Asuna giggled over the phone. "Well, have fun with Papa. I'm going to work on cleaning up this mess of a house."
Kazuto had to smirk. "Ah come on, it's not that bad."
"Perhaps I should wait until tomorrow and have you help me?" Although, her voice was sweet, Asuna's threat was genuine.
"Point taken. We'll be home before dark. Love you."
"Love you too. And Yui?"
"Hai?"
"Be a good girl. Don't drain yourself out."
"Kay!" Yui leaned back over on Kazuto's shoulder as the call ended. "How long till I'm charged?" Her voice was sleepy, due to the state of charging.
Kazuto looked at his phone, then the battery. "Another 5 minutes. Anything you want to do after we're done?"
She looked around her. They'd already been around the trees and the plants in the greenhouse. The other half was the oceanic theme park. Of all the attractions, the large metal winding contraption caught her attention the most. "What's that?"
"It's a roller coaster. They strap you into this metal cart and it uses gravity and G-forces to glide around the rails." He noticed the skeptical look in her eyes, probably from the loop in the coaster. "No need to worry about falling off. The cart is locked to the tracks so it won't come off. You see that big hill?" Yui nodded. "It starts there and the speed from coming down the hill pushes you around the track with enough momentum to push you up that loop."
Soon enough, Yui's battery was at 100 percent capacity and ready to go. They packed the charging cable away and started towards the amusement part. She bounced the entire way, trying to burn off the excess excitement from sitting for so long. It didn't take long for the two to get closer to the twisted metal snake. "Papa! Can we ride it?"
"Let's wait until the end. There's many more things to see between us and it." The two then set off to the aquarium with all kinds of animals. There were turtles, many different types of fish, and even a whale.
"Wow!" Ever since she'd been uploaded into ALO, Yui had a growing fascination with whales. It was her dream to ride one, but she'd since learned that was not possible. "Papa! Papa! Look! It's a whale!"
Kazuto chuckled at her excitement. It was hard to distinguish her from a real natural child. "Yea. It's a real whale. This one is an Orca, otherwise known as the 'Killer Whale'."
"Why do they call it that?" Yui didn't look away from the tank. She just kept staring and smiling.
"Because," He leaned closer to her height. "These whales like to flip small animals like penguins up in the air for fun. They flip and flip and flip until the poor penguin can't move anymore. Then they leave it to die."
"Oh, wow." There was a possibility that she would be let down about learning their true nature, but it seemed she wasn't phased. "So they flip to kill and eat. That makes sense."
After a few hours of roaming the various attractions, they reached the area of the roller coaster. Yui started pulling harder as the blue rails came into view. "Come on Papa!"
"Hang on, let me put he bag up." Kazuto put the bag containing the charging pack in a locker and lead Yui to the line. Since it was a weekday, they were the first on. "You're just barely tall enough to get on this thing."
"Why is there a height requirement? Shouldn't the restraints keep you in place?"
"It's for extra safety. If a child is riding and the speed loosens the straps, they could fall and get seriously hurt."
"But I'm metal. I can't get hurt."
"I know that silly, but human children are a little more fragile than you. I'm sure you'll find that out one day."
Yui's eyes lit up. "You mean when you and Mama have a baby?"
After hearing her question, a small blush crept on his face. "Y-Yea. But that might be a while. Mama and I are still in college. I still have my money from RATH and Mama has her parents' money, but that won't support us forever." Even at this point, Kazuto spent most of his extra cash on things for Yui or nice presents for Asuna. Such as a 1:1 scale replica of the Lambent Light rapier that she used in SAO.
"I know you can do great things Papa!" Yui hugged him as they were about to get on the ride.
"Thanks, Yui."
After the three minute long coaster ride, which they did twice over, Yui was overjoyed. The rush of wind on her artificial skin was amazing. This body really was the pinnacle of technology. Kazuto, on the other hand, was feeling rather ill. Despite having fought in SAO and GGO, as well as flying in ALO, and the Underworld, the roller coaster still gave him feelings of nausea.
"Ugh. Yui, you mean the world to me, you really do, but please never make me do that again."
"Aww! Really? It was so fun!"
"I know, I know. But maybe get Mama to take you next time." He wasn't sure why the sudden motion sickness was overcoming him. It felt all kinds of different from his first time in ALO. After pushing back all the bile, he looked at his watch. "It's almost 5. What now?" The sky was turning pink as it was getting dark.
Yui looked at the sky, her internal clock. "I guess we should head home now. You told Mama we'd be back before dark." They retrieved the bag and set off for where he had parked the bike.
"So, did you have fun on your day out?" He asked as they swung arms with hands linked.
"Yea! It was amazing Papa. All the flowers and trees were so pretty. Then the whale was so graceful when it swam around. And the roller coaster..."
"Don't remind me of that one." Kazuto laughed at Yui's pout. "Oh come on. I'm sure Mama or Aunt Leafa will be more than happy to take you on another roller coaster."
"Do you really mean it?"
"Of course. We both know that Leafa loves to be in the sky, and Mama isn't afraid of anything."
It was then that Yui remembered something that she'd stored way back in her database. It was something she'd seen in SAO when she was still watching over people. That day, when Kuradeel almost killed Kirito, she'd seen Asuna's intense fear. Not of Kuradeel, nor killing, but of losing the one she loved. Yui had also sensed this fear when Asuna jumped in front of Kirito to block Heathcliff's sword. The fear of him dying right in front of her was greater than her own self preservation. It was truly amazing.
"Mama has been scared."
Kazuto knew all of this of course. He knew what Asuna felt those days because she had told him about it. "I know. She's very overprotective and I don't blame her. I have a bad habit of... well..."
"Getting into life threating trouble?" They both started laughing at that.
"That's a good way to put it. I do need to get better about that." He looked at the ground before continuing. "I can't say that I've never been scared either. I was scared when Asuna saved me from Kuradeel that day. I was afraid he would best her. I was afraid when Kayaba slashed her. I thought that I'd lost her. I was really afraid when she didn't wake up from SAO, either." By the end of his monologue, they made it back to the bike. "But, I'm pretty sure you knew all that."
"Of course! I was watching over you two for a long time."
"Well now you can watch over us here too." He strapped her helmet on and started the bike. "Ready?"
"Let's go!"
