It has been a few weeks since I first started here at S.H.I.E.L.D. It also has been a few weeks since Loki was brought in as a prisoner. Not much has happened here since then. I have been working with Dr. Banner on the newest design of the prototype for my machine. Using all of my previous notes from past prototypes to figure out what worked best and went horribly wrong.

"I think we can start building the prototype now," Dr. Banner said.

My eyes lit up, and I said, "Are you serious? We are actually going to start building it?"

"Yes?" Dr. Banner said, confused. A smile grew on my face. "Is there a problem with building it?"

"No. I just never thought we were going to start building it so soon. It took me months to convince the professor I worked with before I could build any prototype. I understood waiting to develop the first one, but after that, it just got annoying that he wouldn't let me make adjustments or start from scratch right away."

"I thought about starting sooner, but you were still changing your designs and continuously writing notes. I figured we would wait until you were more confident in your newest creation," Dr. Banner said.

I grabbed my blueprints and my laptop. I spread out my blueprints so Dr. Banner and I could both look at them while we build. After that, we started building the base of the machine. It wasn't going to be super hard to make since it has a very similar MRI machine structure.

In the middle of building the machine, I heard someone in the hallway yell, "Absolutely not. There is no way I'm allowing her near him. He is a monster and completely untrustworthy. He could be up to something and using her for whatever it is."

"As much as I agree, he says that he will only talk to Adara," A different voice says. I was confused by what was going on. Why were people arguing in the hallway outside this room? Why are they talking about me? "We must let her decide. We won't force her to do anything. Plus, someone will be keeping an eye on them at all times if she agrees, and by someone, I mean me."

"It still isn't a good idea. Can we trust either one of them together?" A third voice said. That pissed me off. If they have the decency to talk about me behind my back, they shouldn't do it somewhere where I can hear.

"Can I help you guys?" I asked when I stepped out into the hallway, annoyed. There stood Jason, Tony Stark, and my dad. I was shocked to see my dad since he wasn't supposed to know that I work here.

Tony shoved Jason forward and said, "Jason has something to ask you."

"Seriously? Are you five?" Jason asked Tony. I rolled my eyes at their childish behaviors as Jason turned towards me. "We have run into a predicament with a prisoner. They refused to talk to anyone that isn't you. But you don't have to do it if you don't want to. No one is going to force you to."

"I have a few questions. My first is Dad, what are you doing here? Better yet, does she know I'm here?" I asked.

My dad laughed, "You really think you could get away with working here without me knowing? However, your mom is completely clueless about you being here, and I know you would like it to stay that way."

"Second question. Which prisoner? Because last time I've checked, I haven't interacted with any of them." All of their faces dropped, and that is when I knew it would be someone dangerous. If I agreed to this, I would end up in something that was ultimately over my head.

Jason sighed, "The prisoner that wants to talk to you and only you is Loki."

"As in the guy they brought in on my first day, and you told me to stay away from? A few years ago, the guy responsible for what happened in New York was considered one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most dangerous criminals? That Loki?"

"Sadly, we don't know another Loki," Tony said.

"Last question. Why me, of all people? I didn't think he knew I existed. I barely saw him when they brought him in."

"We aren't sure about that," Jason says. I couldn't breathe. Why was I so special? Why did he choose me of all people? I just wanted to keep a low profile here, and it was bad enough that my dad knew I'm working here. "All he said was that he wouldn't talk to anyone except the girl with the fiery eyes. You are the only girl that we know with fiery eyes."

"I don't know if I can do this. I'm already so busy with my machine and working with Dr. Banner. Plus, I don't want to be involved with accidentally destroying the world if anything goes wrong," I said.

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to," My dad reminded me.

"I know," I said. I didn't have to do this, but part of me was curious. I needed to know why Loki picked me, of all people. "But I'm going to do it."

"What?" Tony practically shouts.

"Are you sure?" Jason asks me. Jason and I grew up together. He was practically my older brother, but that also meant he was super overprotective of me. Jason knows anything and everything about me, including my parents and the source of my powers. Even though he is hopelessly in love with Hannah, he has kept my secrets from her for her safety.

I nodded, "Loki says that he will only talk to me, then let's see what he has to say. Plus, I know you won't let me out of your site while I'm around him. And if anything goes wrong, I need you to protect Hannah and Toby."

"But" He starts to say.

"Please, Jason. You're the only one that I can trust to protect them if it happens," I plead. Jason nodded in response. I didn't know what was going to happen. For all I know, Loki could be using me just like he used the Avengers. I could turn on the people I care about or end up killing them if anything goes wrong. Or worse, I could lose control.

Tony coughed, "I hate to break up this lover's quarrel, but we have to let Adara get back to her actual job. We will let Fury know that you are on board and will start talking to Loki tomorrow."

"First of all, Jason and me? Gross. Second, tomorrow?" I spoke.

"The sooner you start, the sooner we know what is going on," My dad answers. I nodded. They did have a point. I just wasn't sure how ready I would be to handle the chaos that could come with talking to Loki. After all, he is the God of Mischief and a serious threat.
