...Fate...
Astoria pokes my cheek and frowns. "You've grinning like an idiot for several minutes now. What's in the letter?" she wonders leaning over. mum sent me a letter this morning talking about how much easier it was to get the babies to go to sleep after they recorded my singing.
I show her the letter and sneak a piece of bacon from her plate. "I saw that." she mumbles with a smile. I giggle and steal another piece. She gasps and falls from her seat. "Are you ok?" I wonder. She stumbles over to Draco and nudges him with her knee. "Your cousin is amazing. Did you know that?" she places the letter on the table. Draco picks the letter up and starts reading. I hold my hand out but he turns away still reading.
"They recording you singing." he chuckles. I smile and nod. "They fall asleep in less than a minute. I have a calming effect on them." I shrug and steal a muffin from Pansy's plate. She shoots me a look and I give her a few slices of bacon from Astoria's plate. She smiles and rolls her eyes. I untie the second letter from the owl who has been patiently waiting this entire time.
My eyes quickly scan the page speeding up with every passing word. I let out an excited shriek and jump up. I run over to the older Ravenclaw girl who helped calm me down before our performance last term and show her the letter. Her eyes flit across the page and she smiles. "I knew you could do it. Congratulations Ellie!" she smiles and hugs me. I thank her for helping me when I was panicking.
"What was that all about?" Astoria asks when I'm seated once more. "Oh, nothing really. I just got accepted into the company I wanted to train with over the summer." I dance in my seat. Draco freezes and turns to me. "It's a two-week training program and they train you in every aspect of the business so when you graduate it's easy for you to get ready for the next step." I explain.
Draco snatches the letter. I frown and he turns to the side so he doesn't have to see my expression. I whine and tap his shoulder. "Blaise get your girlfriend." Draco mumbles. Blaise lifts his head from the book he's reading. "Is something wrong?" he mumbles. I point at Draco. Blaise leans over and starts reading the letter. A smile tugs at his lips. "I do believe when one gets good news, you're supposed to congratulate them." Theo clears his throat.
I roll my eyes. "They'll never do that." I huff. "I just thought I saw a familiar name." Blaise shrugs and goes back to his book. True to his word Blaise reverted back to his natural state once I was all caught up on my work. He even took me to Madam Pomfrey to make sure I was ok.
I cross my arms and start counting. Blaise smiles and Draco sighs handing the letter back. "By the way, what happened to your hair? It's much shorter." I murmur. Blaise and Theo smirk and get up from the table making their way to the door. "What are you talking about?" Draco scoffs. I pull two mirrors from my bag. He takes one and I hold up the other so he can see the back.
His hair looks like it was butchered in the back. Some of it's long and some of it's chopped and short. It looks terrible. Draco starts to growl. Crabbe and Goyle point to the doors where Theo and Blaise slip out just in time. Draco gets up slowly and chases after them. I shrug and nab the uneaten muffins from Draco's plate evenly distributing them amongst myself, Pansy, and Astoria.
Blaise catches up with me after classes let out and wraps an arm around me. "We were trying to see how long it would take him to notice." he frowns. "It was a horrid job. It'd look bad if I just let him walk around ruining the family name like that." I shake my head but I'm smiling.
"That's the entire point. Now Theo and I need to come up with a new prank." he pouts. "That's not my problem." I smirk. He gives me a measured look and stops walking forcing me to stop walking too. "Oh, it most definitely is." he smirks. "Can an apology make it better?" I ask hopefully. He thinks about it then shakes his head. "No, that won't do." he smiles.
I hmm and put a finger to my lips as we begin to walk again. I smile and kiss his cheek. He sighs and shakes his head. I step in front of him walking backwards and letting him lead me. "Are you sure you didn't forgive me as soon as I told Draco about his botched hair?" I smirk.
He tuts and turns me around. I laugh as he leads me to the library. "I knew it. I knew you forgave me already." I smile victoriously. "Come on you need to study." he chuckles. "I don't want to study." I complain. He turns me back around and I find myself dangerously close to him. "What was that?" he whispers kissing me. "I should study as hard as I can." I murmur dazedly. He smiles and we continue on.
I get bored while studying and begin to play around by myself walking my fingers along the table. Blaise doesn't say anything so I lean over and start finger walking up his arm. He pulls me onto his lap. "Take a nap for now Ellie." he sighs closing my books. I cuddle him until I drift off.
He wakes me up a few hours later and I rub my eyes. "Feeling better?" he asks. I yawn and put my head back on his shoulder to sleep. "Oh no you don't. Time for dinner and then you can go to sleep." he smirks. I whine and he pinches my cheek. "No ma'am." he scolds. "I'm too tired to eat!" I whine. Blaise lifts my head forcing me to look at him.
He examines my face carefully. "Please. Please, for me." he mumbles. I try to look away but he's not letting me go that easily. I whine and he kisses me softly. "Fine." I mutter. He smirks and holds his hand out and I take it. Mumbling under my breath he walks me down to the hall for dinner. I sit down a glum expression on my face.
"What's eating you?" Draco nudges me. "She took a nap and I woke her up." Blaise shrugs. Draco ahhs nodding as if everything is explained. I put my head on the table as I start to drift off again. "Oh no you don't. You need to eat." Astoria forces me to sit up. I groan and put my head on her shoulder. "Eat or I show Blaise the pictures I took of you in our first broom riding lesson." she whispers in my ear.
I sit up quickly suddenly full of energy and start eating. "Ooh, what trick did you use?" Blaise wonders. I stuff several rolls in Astoria's mouth before she can answer. Blaise frowns and I turn back to my food. I finish eating and get up. "Going to bed?" Astoria smirks. I nod yawning. I make my way safely out of the hall but I'm so tired that I start to fall asleep.
Collin just so happens to be nearby and makes his way over. "Hey, do you need help?" he asks. I mumble and curl up. "Do you want me to go get Draco?" he asks putting a hand on my shoulder. "Pansy." I mumble. "You shouldn't fall asleep here." he mumbles putting an arm around me and helping me to a nearby bench.
Footsteps approach and look up. A very angry Blaise looms overhead. "I can handle it from here. If you don't mind taking your hands off her." his tone is light years from being considered nice. Collin bolts and Blaise picks me up. He doesn't say a word until we're near the common room entrance. "What the hell. I can't leave you alone for two seconds without some guy trying to get close to you. Pissing me off." he mutters to himself.
"Up to bed you go." he whispers putting me down. I wrap my arms around his waist. "I'm sorry. I should've waited. I was just tired." I yawn. Blaise kisses the top of my head. "I know. Now go on up to bed. I'll see you in the morning." he smiles. I stumble up to my dorm and strip before crawling under the covers.
The first thing I do in the morning is hug Blaise and kiss his cheek. "Did you sleep well?" he asks pulling me onto the couch with him. I nod. "Sorry. Exams are approaching and I let the pressure get to me." I murmur playing with his hands. "Hey, look at me. If you ever need help, I'm here for you. Just say the word." he promises. I run my fingers along his shoulders.
"Are you going to actually help me study?!" I gasp. He smiles and nods. "I want you to help me study but first..." I kiss his cheek. He pulls me to him. "That's not what you wanted." he mumbles. I smile and push him flat on the couch. "I wanted to sleep yesterday but you wouldn't let me. I know you want me to kiss you but I don't think I should." I tease.
"Yes, you should. It's the best part of our day." he chuckles. I have to admit he's right. He kisses me starting off gently but the kiss gets heated and I lay there dazed with a happy kiss drunk smile on my face. "It may be the best part of your day but I don't care for it." Draco sneers. I ignore him and kiss Blaise again.
I lay my head on Blaise's chest as they talk about classes, Quidditch, and the tournament. It's a pretty relaxing morning until breakfast. Snape is patrolling the table asking questions. I frown and turn to Draco. "Did you do something?" I ask. Draco frowns. "You need to have more faith in me little cousin. I have behaving just as I promised since you left last term." he pouts.
Grumbling I turn back to my breakfast. When Snape makes his way over, he questions everyone but me. "I saw what state you were in last night so culprit could not have been you Ms. Brown." he states matter-of-factly. "Culprit?" Astoria and I ask at the same time. "Yes, someone decided to dangle Mr. Creevey from the ledge of the Astronomy Tower. If his brother and the rest of Gryffindor house had not noticed his absence he surely would've fallen. We just barely got to him in time. That is why I am questioning everyone since Mr. Creevey did not see or hear his attackers." Snape eyes everyone at the table.
"That's weird. I saw Collin last night and he seemed perfectly fine. Even went left on his own. No one was following him or had any problems with him." I murmur. Snape tuts as he sweeps down the table to go question others. "Poor kid." Astoria mumbles. "When did you run into Collin? I thought you went to bed." Pansy scoffs. "I fell asleep just outside the doors. He helped me to a bench and then Blaise showed up and carried me to the common room." I shrug.
After breakfast we go down to the lake. Pansy, Astoria, and Theo have a rock skipping competition. I lean against a tree twirling my wand. Draco and Blaise are off talking about something and told me to stay put and not wander off on my own. I keep score for the competition and snack on sweets while I wait for them to come back.
It's late afternoon by the time they return. Blaise sits next to me and pulls me onto his lap. Draco sits down across from us trying his best not to comment. "Are you feeling, ok?" I whisper. Blaise chuckles and nods. "I'm not going to see you all summer. I want to spend as much time with you as I possibly can." he smiles kissing the top of my head.
I curl up in his lap and fall asleep. I wake up an hour later and follow everyone to the castle for dinner. Draco is nice enough to let me sit next to Blaise during dinner though. "Hmm, I thought you'd leave when you were done eating." Draco mumbles. "It's not safe for me to leave by myself. I could accidentally fall asleep and fall down some stairs or get lost in the dungeons. Would you like to explain to my mum what happened to me?" I huff. Draco holds his hands up in surrender.
Astoria drags me down to the final task. I wanted to sleep after all those exams but she insisted. I yawn tiredly and Blaise taps his shoulder. I drape my arms over his shoulders and let my head rest there until the task begins. I lift my head once Fleur returns and soon after that Viktor reappears. My curiosity is peaked and I rest my head atop Blaise's.
I'm deep in conversation with Astoria when Harry and Cedric reappear. There's confusion on the ground and then somewhere down below a woman screams. Draco taps Blaise and I'm picked up and carried off but not before I realize Cedric is dead. I can't sleep and my head hurts. I wander into the common room to find many still awake.
Blaise takes me up to the Hospital Wing. I gasp and do a double take. A dog lies near Harry's bed. "Dad!" I mumble. Blaise looks at me in concern. "Dad!" I smile. Dad transforms and I run and launch into his arms. I hug him tightly. "What are you doing here?" he wonders. "I wasn't feeling well so Blaise brought me up to see Madam Pomfrey." I point at Blaise who's frozen in place.
"Why are you way over there. Come and say hello to my father." I wave Blaise over. Blaise makes his way over slowly. "Hello sir." Blaise mumbles looking at the floor. Dad and I tilt our heads in confusion. "Is he always like this?" Dad whispers. "I don't think so. This is a first. Maybe I should have Madam Pomfrey examine his head?" I sigh. Blaise shoots me a look.
"We came here to get you help not me." Blaise smirks. "Ah, so you finally admit you need help." I smirk. Blaise groans and shakes his head. "Go on then. There's something I need to deal with." dad smiles at me. I nod and let Blaise lead me away. Madam Pomfrey examines me and tuts.
"You're in here too frequently around exams for my liking." she tsks. I laugh nervously and she hands me the usual medication. "Drink it up." she orders. "A smile makes this bitter medicine sweeter." I smile and wink. She smiles and laughs. "You are most definitely his daughter." she shakes her head and walks away. I down the medicine.
Blaise frowns. "She's right you know. You're up here too often." he rubs my hand. I smile. "I know." I whisper. "Do you? Do you really?" Blaise wonders. Madam Pomfrey comes back with the second medication before I can answer. "Make sure she drinks all of it. Sometimes she skips out on part of her doses because it's bitter." Madam Pomfrey tells Blaise.
I pout at her as she walks away. Blaise taps my shoulder and I dive under the covers. I hum to myself blocking out his attempts to get me to take the medicine. I'm suddenly lifted up. Blaise sits behind me tilting my chin. I gasp and he pours the medicine into my mouth. "Nice! Had to use that method to get mother to take her medicine too." Dad smiles at me as I pretend to gag.
Dad goes back to the conversation the adults are having. "My boyfriend is evil. My dad is evil. My mum and Kreacher are the only ones who love me." I pout. Blaise chuckles and rubs my arms. "Come here and stop pouting." he leans back pulling me with him. I squirm for a bit and he wraps his arms around me. "Go to sleep." he whispers.
I sigh heavily and fall asleep. He wakes me every time Madam Pomfrey has me take another dose of medicine. I groan as she delivers the last dose. "You are acting just as bad as your mother. I ought to send her a letter." Madam Pomfrey shakes her head. I down the last of the medicine. "It's so bitter. Can't you add a little honey to it?" I plead. "You know we can't." Madam Pomfrey smiles as she collects the empty cups.
I groan and lie back down. Blaise smiles and pats my head. Madam Pomfrey bustles around and I eventually fall asleep again. I wake up to raised voices and groan. Blaise rubs my arm. I wrap my arms around his waist and he kisses the top of my head. "Feeling better?" he asks. I shake my head. "Should I tell Madam Pomfrey you want more medicine?" he smiles. "Hell no!" I pout.
"But you're not feeling well." Blaise frowns. "Then you can be my medicine!" I smile. Blaise closes his eyes but he's grinning like an idiot. He laces his fingers and mine and we whisper quietly until the conversation a few beds away calms down. "Honestly, Molly. Relax, you've woken everyone. You guys can stop pretending you're asleep." a red-haired man calls out. Harry sits up from where he was pretending as well as the Weasleys and Hermione.
I continue my whispered conversation until I hear laughing. I sit up and look at Lupin and dad who are laughing the most. "This is a Hospital Ward. Patients need peace and quiet to rest." I scold playfully. All the adults look at the floor. I lay back down I snuggle into Blaise's chest.
He wakes me at dawn for more medicine. I shake my head. "I took the last dose last night." I mumble. "Your dad remembered something that helped your mother and Madam Pomfrey whipped it up special for you." Blaise whispers. I look up and he sits me up with him. Strange purplish pink liquid is in a cup. I frown and start to turn away. "Please!" Blaise turns me back. I drink the contents since he rarely says please.
I hand him the empty cup. Madam Pomfrey releases me an hour later when I'm back to normal. Blaise holds my hand as we walk back down to the dungeons. I hum softly and he pulls me closer. "I take it you're feeling much better." he mumbles kissing the top of my head. I stop walking.
"Fine. One time and then you need to go pack before Draco yells at me." Blaise smiles. He pulls me close and kisses me once. "Unsatisfactory." I pout. "Go pack." he smirks. "No!" I fold my arms and sit on a nearby bench. Blaise looks at the ceiling hands on his hips. He takes a few deep breaths and then walks over to me and throws me over his shoulder.
I hit his back but my attempts are futile. When he puts me down, he waves me up to my dorm. I give him my best puppy dog eyes and wrap my arms around him. He smirks and leans in kissing me softly. I smile and kiss him once more before going to pack. It doesn't take me long to pack and Astoria brings me back breakfast.
Her things take longer to pack and we keep quiet all the while. No one really speaks and the eerie quiet doesn't help the mood in the slightest. Blaise lets me sit on his lap on the train home. "Will you write often?" I wonder. "Of course. You're acting like I'm going to the Artic. It's just Italy." Blaise chuckles.
"Oh my. Look at that. It's just Italy with it's amazing food, amazing landmarks, the culture, the women. It's just Italy." I mock. Blaise leans back raising an eyebrow. I get up and sit in Theo's lap. "I'm boycotting." I pout and wrap my arms around Theo. Theo holds his hands up to show his innocence. When the train starts to pull into the station I hop up and jump onto the platform. Mum is there waiting with a smile.
"Giving your boyfriend a hard time, I hear." she smiles. "Stupid Italy." I mutter kicking the ground. Mum gets my things and we depart. I skip alongside her as we walk out to the car. I feel someone staring at me and turn to see Blaise leaning against a wall smirking. "You're jealous, aren't you?" he mouths. I blush and whip around throwing the last of my things into the trunk and slamming it shut.
Mum jumps and I grab Serenity's cage and put her in the backseat before closing the door and sitting in the passenger seat. Mum stops by my favorite sweets shop on the way home. She hands me my extra-large green tea and raspberry ice cream sundae with chocolate chip cookie dough, brownie pieces, caramel sauce, hot fudge sauce, and cherries. It helps me calm down a bit and I stuff my face quietly.
I unpack quickly and let Serenity out. She curls up next to Anya on my bed. "Kitty!" Anya yawns happily. I curl up with the both of them for an afternoon nap. Dad wakes me for dinner. I yawn tiredly and scoop Anya up and follow him to the kitchen. Kreacher is muttering about cleaning grandma's house when we enter. Kreacher jumps when Serenity enters with us.
"Oh, is she finally use to the babies?" mum asks. I shake my head. "Just Anya, but then again Anya made the first move. She called Serenity 'Kitty'." I smile. "Kitty!" Anya smiles. Serenity turns her head and meows as if acknowledging Anya's efforts. I put Anya in her highchair and Serenity leaps up sitting next to her and licking her face. "See. She just doesn't like the mischievous ones who keep pulling her tail." I look at Elijiah and Regulus.
They babble at me using a collection of the random words they've learned. I roll my eyes and kiss the top of their heads to calm them. For dinner Kreacher made pot roast with vegetables and fresh rolls. I push my plate away when I'm done eating and rest my head on the table.
I wake early for my first morning of training and stumble to the shower. I run my fingers through my long honey blonde hair unbraiding it. It falls down to my waist now and I sigh as the hot water turns warm. I cut it off and step from the shower wrapping myself in a fluffy robe. Mum knocks on my door and I let her know I'm already awake as I lightly dry my hair.
She walks in finding me at my vanity putting my hair in curlers. I turn to her with a frown. "What should I wear?", I ask curiously, "It's my first training internship and I want to do a good job." She smiles and helps me put curlers in the rest of my hair. She gets up and starts to go through my closet. "It's at times like this where I'm glad my brother and his wife noticed and bought you new clothes or else, I had have to take you last minute to the store." mum chuckles.
I put lotion on and wash my face. I walk out to find a strawberry pink accordion skirt on my life size mannequin. A pair of black kitten heels are sliding onto the mannequin's feet and mum sends a black tank top and a rose red blouse zooming towards the mannequin with her wand. She rummages through my jewelry box picking out a simple golden chain necklace, gold teardrop earrings, and a thin golden bracelet.
I already packed everything I would need in my bag. She leaves me to dress when Elijiah starts crying. I dress quickly and slide into a light jacket. I make my down to breakfast after taking the curlers out and spraying my hair. "Morning El-… Alexandra!" dad yells. I try and shush him but it's not working. Mum rushes in to see me and Kreacher stuffing sticky buns into dad's mouth.
She bursts out laughing. "Alexandra! It's not funny. Look at Ellie! She looks like she's grown. Ellie, for your father's sake go put on some overalls, old sneakers, and a rock t-shirt or something." he orders. I pout and go sit down. "Now look what you did Sirius! You upset her. It's her first day of training. She can't go dressed how she normally does. It was in the permission slip they sent a few months back." mum scolds him.
Mum drops me off at the company early so I can locate the room I'm supposed to go to. I hug her goodbye and walk inside. The staff at the front lobby desk escort me to the meeting room. I wait patiently twiddling my thumbs while I wait. I nearly jump when a woman with jet black hair and bronze eyes walks in. "Ah, Eleanor! It's so good to finally meet you! I'm Madeline Jones! I'll be helping you over the summer." she hurries over and shakes my hand with a firm grip.
"It's nice to meet you too." I smile. "Aren't you just completely adorable." she walks around me. We take our seats and she goes over my grades and work from music class. "Your professor sent the memory of your performance at the Welcoming Feast. Your voice is quite remarkable for someone your age." she smiles. I blush and look down at my hands.
"It wasn't my best. I was all kinds of nervous leading up to it." I confess. "Ah, yes. Your mother told me about your anxiety. Even so, you didn't let it hold you back and you got up there with the rest of the girls and you did an amazing job." she places a hand on my shoulder reassuringly.
I allow myself to sit up. "I wonder if you've sang outside of school." she taps her fingers on the table. "Yes, I have. I sing for my little sister and brothers. My parents actually recorded me singing because it helps them get them to sleep faster." I giggle at the memory. "I'd love to hear you sing right now." Madeline gasps. I nod and begin to warm up my voice.
I choose an old song my mother used to sing when I was younger. When I'm done there's applause and I turn to see the room and hallway has filled with people who listened to me sing. I blush and thank them. Madeline dismisses them except for a few. She sends one to get lunch, another to get the stylists she requested, and the last to get another vocal coach. "Her voice is multifunctional. Girl can sing anything an any genre." Madeline smiles and claps her hands. They hurry to complete their tasks.
Madeline introduces the newcomers as they arrive. Lisa Richards is my stylist. She has platinum blonde hair and amber eyes that don't miss a single thing. Susan Miller is my dietician and personal trainer. She's not happy about my anxiety or the fact that I sometimes let my emotions pile up to the point where when I finally say something I end up sleeping for 3 days or several weeks. She's nice though. She has long auburn hair and amethyst-colored eyes.
Dahlia Davis and Olivia Smith are the last to arrive. Dahlia has short cocoa brown hair and cerulean blue eyes. She's my hair stylist. Olivia is my second in command vocal coach after Madeline. She has onyx black hair and chartreuse green eyes. Dahlia and Susan are the youngest being a good 6 or 7 years older than me. Madeline, Olivia, and Lisa are all 10 to 15 years older than I.
We eat lunch then they start asking questions. "When was the last time you updated your wardrobe?" Lisa wonders nibbling on a cookie. "Last summer when my aunt and uncle noticed my clothes looked a little worn." I confess. "A little worn?" Dahlia smiles. "Ok, they might have had a few holes here and there but I have an overprotective cousin who normally doesn't like it when I dress up like this. Olivia and Madeline choke on their drinks.
"He thinks this is dressing up? What was his reaction when you performed at the feast?" Susan giggles. "He didn't recognize me until I spoke and then he 'grounded' me for a few weeks." I murmur softly. They burst out laughing. "Well, don't you worry. Next time we'll give him a real reason to be upset about your makeover." Lisa smirks.
The questions continue and I set up a date for them to visit the house and examine my closet and such. Susan goes to her office saying she'll catch up with us in the training room. We head to the training room which has various instruments and rows and rows of shelves filled with music sheets. As per grandma Black's suggestions I learned a few instruments when she saw that I showed musical promise.
I play the piano, the flute, the harp, the cello, and the violin. I start playing with the guitars and find I excel at each. Olivia leans onto the grand piano and watches me. "Ellie, I want to try something. I want you to sing with each instrument but I want you to change genres based on what you think would best fit each instrument." she tasks.
I sing jazz while playing the piano, classical with the flute, blues with the harp, classical with the cello, rock music for the violin, folk for the ukulele, bluegrass for the banjo, funk for the classical guitar, metal with the acoustic guitar, blues with the semi-acoustic guitar, and soul with the electric guitar. When I've played the last chord, I look up.
To say everyone is awestruck would be an understatement. Their jaws are open nearly hitting the floor and their eyes are wide in amazement. "Did I do a good job? I mean out of all of them I've never played any of the guitars before." I smile and place the electric guitar back on its stand. "Hold up! You've never played any of these guitars until today?!" Olivia shrieks.
I nod unsure of why they're freaking out. They devise a study plan for me where I come in twice a week. Susan races in with vitamins and an exercise plan. She wants to wait until she sees my room and mum's kitchen before making a diet. Dahlia examines my hair while they go over the training regimen so far.
"I don't mean to pry but do you have a boyfriend?" Dahlia asks suddenly. I blush and nod. "Ooh, how long have you two been together?" she gasps. "Six months." I smile. "You must really like him." she pokes my blushing cheek. "You could say that. He's nice." I look at the ground. "Just nice? Did he make you mad?" she smiles.
"He's visiting his family in Italy right now." I mutter. "Ah Italian girls, Italian food, Italy in general." Madeline sighs. "Does he know you're jealous?" Dahlia smirks. I nod. "He's the exact opposite of me. He doesn't like doing more work than is necessary, he gets really lazy after doing one task, and he doesn't find much interesting or worth his time." I sigh. "But he likes you and that's all that matters. Besides, he doesn't sound like the type to look at other girls." Lisa chuckles. This makes me laugh because it's true.
