Shortly after disembarking to the abbey, we did get attacked by the Slimes that turned into Slimestacks, the Slime Knights, and the Cyclowns, but once we got to the Abbey, we then went up all the steps until finally going into the place... just for my human allies to gawk at how very empty the place was and that there was a chancellor that was currently turning away people from changing their vocations.
"I am not leavin' this place until Ah get mah frilly maid outfit an' duster!" the old guy said, which made me look at the others and do the cuckoo motion, them smiling at me. And once the group of angry folks in front of us then dispersed, we then went to the chancellor and I spoke first.
"Pardon mister, but where's the Abbot at?" I asked him, the guy immediately looking at Pavo and gawking.
"U-U-Um... he's currently missing... C-Celestrian..." he said, Pavo frowning at that.
"Partly, yes... more pressing question now, have you seen a special fruit as of late?" Pavo asked.
"A special fruit?... I don't know. What does it look like?" he asked.
"It's got a green stem and the fruit itself shines a bright golden hue," I said.
"Oh, I think I may know! The Abbot recently had one the other day... but he's been missing ever since."
It was then that I spoke again. "Then the Abbot may be in trouble. Because that fruit is called a Fygg, which is celestial and comes from Yggdrasil. We need to find him right away before something bad happens," I said, the chancellor gawking before then getting a lightbulb... or in this case, a candle, since lightbulbs aren't invented in this world yet.
"Ah! That's it! The Tower of Trades! It used to be where the ancient sacred rites of vocational changing were performed, but it's currently in decay and filled with monsters. Normally, the Abbot would never go there, but if he's eaten a sacred fruit, then he might have went there with some confidence... oh dear, I can't help but worry. Could I ask your group to go to the tower, find the Abbot and bring him back safely?" the chancellor asked.
"You can count on us, mister!" Keira smiled widely.
"Great! Before you go, you should know that the only way to open the door there is to bow at the entrance. And also, take this with you for extra protection," the guy said as he then handed us a Cloak of Concealment, which I immediately gave to Carly, as she was the one that was least experienced in combat. As for her vocation? She was a Mage, meaning she had access to offensive spells. And as of right now, she was quite fine with wielding an oak wand we'd gotten from one of the kitty cat sorcerers near Zere.
"Thanks, I'll put this on right away," she said as she simply put the cloak over her normal clothes (which were still Catarrhina's, as was her appearance) and we then went off to the tower in question, which was to the east of us. And once we arrived, I bowed at the entrance, causing the door to open up for us.
"Here we go. Time to get up this tower to find this Abbot," I smirked. The journey up the tower was filled with the tougher enemies in the form of the Walking Corpses, Drackymas, Mushroom Mages (their Zam attack in particular was aggravating), and the Jinksters and Restless Armors. But after trekking through everything and getting a ton of alchemy items from the chests and pots, we finally got to the top and, before we went through the doors, we decided to make an upgrade to Crux's sword in the form of a Gigasteel Broadsword while we also gave an upgrade to Veronica's light shield and I turned it into a kitty shield with some kitty litter that I'd managed to swipe from the crates on the way up.
We then proceeded into the door of light and saw that Abbot Jack was in the middle of some kind of ritual.
"And with this fruit, I shall-" he was about to say before I cleared my throat, him then turning around and being surprised at us being there. "Ack! What are you doing here? You are interrupting my sacred ritual!" he said as Crux spoke.
"If it involves that fruit, then it's going to do something bad, I know it will," he said, Abbot Francisco frowning at me.
"See now, the power that I shall use to lead my flock to salvation!" he shouted as he then had a dark shield surround him! "Yes! The power! Let it consume me!" he shouted... and we all watched in shock as his body then turned into its monstrous form. "W-What... is this?... I've become a monster?" he asked in shock as I readied my sword and the others did as well. "But maybe... yes, I see now... I must use brutality and fear to lead my flock! And you shall be the first to witness the power I possess!" he shouted as I then felt some kind of feeling... it was telling me to... aim at the giant tail? "I am the Jack of Alltrades no more! I am now the Master of Nu'un, and you will know my wrath!" he shouted as I then spoke to everyone.
"Guys, this might sound crazy, but aim for his tail! I have a good feeling it'll snap him out of it if we can cut it off!" I said, Carly gawking.
"You're sure? Okay then, no other ideas, so let's do this!" Carly said as our group then proceeded to attack the transformed Abbot's tail with all we had. I attacked with a Dragon Slash, Carly used Crack to slice into it with a bit of sharp ice, Dillon used his own blade, Veronica scorched it with a Frizzle, and Keira used a shot from her bow to slice it the rest of the way off! The Master of Nu'un then growled loudly and tried to attack none other than Stella, but she simply dodged his attack and gave him a bitch slap right across the face, the Abbot hissing as we saw the darkness start to exude from his tail!
"NOOOOOO!... The power..." he shouted... and then, we saw him turn back into his human form and for a glowing fruit to emerge from his body and simply float above the ground.
"Abbot Jack!" Dillon gawked as he rushed over to him and helped him off the ground, the Abbot looking a bit perplexed at where he was.
"W-What?... Where am I?... And what was I doing?" he asked in confusion before looking at the Fygg. "The last thing I remember was eating that golden fruit... but everything afterwards is all a blur... and I had a feeling that I was losing myself..." he frowned as Pavo then spoke.
"You used the Fygg to turn into a monster, hoping to rule over the mortals with fear and punishment... and this tail here is the only remnants of your monstrous form," she explained as she picked it up and Abbot Jack gawked at it.
"I see... I feel I must thank you accordingly... but not here. You may take that fruit, miss Celestrian... meet me at the Abbey and I shall grant the lot of you a reward for helping me regain my senses," he said. Pavo then picked up the Fygg and Stella looked at us in concern as the we escorted the Abbot out of the tower.
"Those Fyggs are pretty flappin' brutal. If it were able to turn a mild-mannered mortal like the Abbot into a monster, I don't wanna think about what'd happen if anyone else had one!... Also, mister Abbot? Sorry for that big handprint on your cheek, but you were just about to skewer me as your final and only attack," Stella said, apologizing to the Abbot only because he was still being supported by Dillon.
"It's quite alright, miss fairy... though I must admit, I didn't expect to be saved by a trio of celestial creatures and four humans... how can I see you, anyways?" he asked in surprise.
"Because us humans aren't your normal run-of-the-mill type. We had some of Crux's wing feathers after he'd lost them and ate them as stock in a soup. And as for Carly, she's partly human and partly ghost, because her spirit had entered and took control of a girl's body just as she had passed away from a disease," Veronica explained with a smile. We then cast Evac afterwards and I Zoomed our group to the Abbey to save some time, us then going inside and leading the Abbot to the Chancellor, who looked surprised at his return.
"You found him?! What happened to your face, Jack?" he asked in surprise.
"He kinda lost control of his thoughts and turned into a literal monster after having that Fygg. So we had to attack him, with the last attack being a super strong slap to the face... so yeah, sorry about that, but it was the only way to knock him back to his senses," Keira smiled.
"I understand... Abbot Jack, are you ready to resume your duties?" the chancellor asked.
"Indeed, I am... and I intend to resume starting with these fine heroes here," Jack said as he then led us all to the area in question and then, out of nowhere, he started to do his chanting... and we all gawked as we felt... stronger. Immensely, so!
"Whoa! What just happened?" Pavo asked in surprise.
"I have granted all of you with the ability to use all the skills of any Vocation you so desire. Now, whenever you gain experience, it will go to all of your combined vocations, those being Priest, Mage, Minstrel, Warrior, Thief, Martial Artist, Ranger, Armamentalist, Sage, Paladin, Gladiator, and Luminary. Use this power wisely and for the greater good," he said, us gawking at that as we looked at each other with a wide grin.
"Thanks, mister Abbot! You're the best!" Keira smiled widely.
"This will be of great use later on. We best get to fighting tougher monsters to make our team nigh unstoppable!" Crux said with excitement.
"Agreed, but as for right now, we should focus on trying to find the next Fygg. Where do we go from here?" Pavo asked.
"Well, the only other area you could go to is Porth Llaffan, which is the only other settlement in the Newid Isle. I'm sure you'll find something there. And besides, you would need to use a boat to get from there to Slurry Quay, and Porth Llaffan is the only place with any kind of sea travel," the abbot said, us smirking at that.
"Okay, thanks for the directions, Abbot Jack," I said, our group then leaving with wide smiles. The fact we could now choose between all the different vocations and that each of them would level up at the same time AND give us skill points for each? It made us all giddy, even Stella had managed to get the effects.
"I think I'll finally help out in the fights from now on, what do you blokes say to that?" she asked with a smile.
"About time," Carly giggled.
"Oi! You haven't even been with us for that long, so how do you know if I haven't fought or not?" Stella asked Carly in annoyance.
"I just notice that you usually stay as a tiny pink light rather than fight is all," Carly admitted.
"Fine, fairy enough," she frowned, me then doing something eventful.
"Badum, tss!" I smirked, Carly laughing out loud at that while everyone else looked confused.
"I don't get it, what's so funny?" Dillon asked.
"That is what we call a drum riff. It's usually used whenever someone makes a bad pun in our world," I explained.
"Ah, so something we're unaware of?" Veronica asked.
"That depends. Do you have drums and cymbals in this world?" I asked.
"Yes, we do... wait... oh, so you hit the drum twice and then clang the cymbal? I got it now!" she smirked afterwards.
"Now you're getting it," Carly said with a smile after recovering from her laughing fit.
