Hello everyone again. The year is half over already and time seems to really be flying but I've been feeling good lately and I hope all is going well. Now kokichi is a tricky character to write for but hopefully I'll do him at least a little justice at least. I've only really written him a few other times. After the last chapter I won't even mention what prompts these are since apparently my brain likes to change on the dot.

"I hope your all listening because this will be on the upcoming exam! I shouldn't have to remind any of you special snowflake brats how important this grade is do I?" Mr. Husk addressed the class not really waiting for an answer.

Kokichi personally did not care for the man. There really were only a few things in the world worst then bullies. Its said when you get older your suppose to grow out of stupid phases or dumb mindsets. The sad truth was a lot of people didn't change much as they grew besides maybe their appearances. Sure maybe a few handful did grow up for the better rather then worst but he had usually only witnessed a majority of the latter then the former in adults. That's what people like him were, idiots who never grew out of the bully phase. He was an obese shrill voiced man who seemed pretty bitter about teaching here since their old teacher had gone on maternity leave.

According to what Kokichi dug up on the guy he was a former teacher at the reserve course building. Everyone knew that kids in the reserve course either looked at ultimates with jealousy, admiration, or bitterness. The teachers apparently were no different in these feelings. The moment Mr. Husk stepped in he made it crystal clear he felt resentful of everyone's existence. He didn't even bother remembering most their names and just made up dumb ones as an insult.

"Animal child! I thought I said not to feed those squirrels in class!" Husk shouted at Gundham who indeed was feeding one of his little hamsters a small peanut.

"Dense demon of envy! You should watch what you call my minions who are more superiors then thee. How many times have thou been told what creatures I master?!" Gundham replied. Kokichi didn't always understand Gundham but he enjoyed his defiance. It was clear he was getting tired of this teacher like the rest of them. He saw him as an idiot too for still mixing up the hamsters for squirrels. This time the ultimate breeder didn't even bother lecturing about the importance of feeding them as part of his talent.

"That's it, detention with you!" The teacher shouted while pointing to the door.

Gundham just rolled his eyes and got up while tucking his devas back into his scarf except his biggest one. He continued to feed it as he walked. Kokichi heard him muttering something about him one day summoning the real cursed squirrel king if this cur wanted to meet them so bad. This made kokichi chuckle a bit since he'd love to see that or maybe help in making that happen to. Just showing joy in the substitute's presence was a no no though apparently.

"Why are you laughing checkered brat?" asked .

"This guy leaves way to many easy openings with questions like that. Also is checkered brat really the best he can do?" Kokichi thought.

"I really don't know what your talking about teacher. I really love this class sooooo very much that I'm always paying attention." the liar said.

"If that's true then I'm sure you can answer the question on the board then right you little smartass?" Husk smirked at him.

It was a little known and embarrassing fact but Kokichi honestly sucked at math. He was smart in plenty other aspects academic wise but math was invented by actual devils he was positive. That was the only logical reason a bully like this would even be teaching the subject. This demon teacher knew kokichi could get lucky once in a while but not all the time with guessing the answers. It also didn't help that his teaching techniques sucked and sometimes he'd play favorites just cause he could.

"Oi, I think the answer is-" "Not you!" Kaito was cut off.

Why did kaito just have to try and show him up here? Not that it was surprising he knew the answer but still. Kaito momota was one of the few ultimates Husk counted as a favorite despite seeming to hate them all. Still was terrible at getting Kaito's last name right to. Kaito himself was an odd mix of dumb and smart at the same time much like kokichi's other friend Miu.

Kaito could sit there rambling on about the dumbest made up encounter he ever had like they were real. Once he missed his mouth when eating and wrestled an out of order snack machine for 10 minutes. On the other hand he was the ultimate astronaut making him fluent in multiple languages plus skillsets much like kokichi academic wise at least. It had briefly gone through his head to ask for help with tutoring either via blackmail or promising not to prank him for 2 weeks.

This was shot down when he remembered the other boy had friends that hated him much more openly then Kaito. Sure Kaito had sometimes tried to engage in conversation and invite the supreme leader to hang out. Kokichi wasn't an easy person to trick though. There was no way his advances weren't just to look good in front of his friends. He might of been a friendly enough guy on the surface but he also had an ego. "Look everyone! I tamed the schools most disliked ultimate!" Something dumb like that would of definitely gone through his mind. Case in point of him showing off right there with trying to answer the question that Kokichi still hadn't responded to.

"Well mister Omeade, we are waiting." Mr. Husk demanded again.

"Woooow, that was even more off then your last attempt at my name. Are you sure your Japanese?" Kokichi replied.

"Listen here you little shi-!" *Bing bong*

"Saved by the bell!"

"HOLD IT! Just because the bell rang doesn't mean your dismissed. I'm the one in charge here so you can only leave when I tell you to." Despite his words everyone got up to leave with him giving them all death glares.

"Hey kokichi? Kokichi!" Kaito shouted unnecessarily considering he was only a few steps away and kokichi wasn't an old man with hearing problems.
"What does the teacher's pet want with me now? Trying to rub in knowing the answers not enough? I knew your hero thing was a lie anyway but still." Kokichi said this while neither stopping or turning around.

"What the hell are you talking about? I wasn't trying to show you up and I don't think its cool he puts you on the spot like that either." Kaito continued shadowing him as he spoke.
"I'm really not that interested in what you think so you can leave me alone now." Kokchi sped up a little but this only spurred kaito into walking faster.

"Will you at least hear my suggestion dude? If you don't want my help that's fine but what about Korekiyo?" Kaito said.

That comment made Kokichi pause for a second. One part of him said he should just keep walking and ignore him. Another part was curious on what Kaito bringing up a guy he lowkey had a crush on was about. As far as he knew kiyo didn't have any classes with kaito. Despite his constant denial on the matter most knew Kaito's not so subtle fear of the supernatural and superstitious. Part of Korekiyo's talents and passions involved exactly that within other things in anthropology. Them being friends in any capacity was odd.
"You mean you want him to sacrifice our teacher in a ritual for a better teacher? You should of said that in the first place!"Kokichi said with a laugh.

Th-that stuff is just made up bullshit. You know what I meant anyways so why even bring up creepy stuff like that?
Why not? I've always thought of it is a lot more exciting when you really want something. I sacrificed my brother to Cthulhu to gain my talent you know."
Kaito's face went from confused to annoyed by his antics. He was clearly trying to not talk about the main subject with him for some reason.

"Why do you care anyways? If I don't pass this class its not really the end of the world. My other grades have me covered anyways." This wasn't completely true since only half his grades he was acing but Kaito didn't need to know that.

"Oh, well still I just don't like seeing people being picked on for things they have issues with. I know we aren't super close and I don't wanna force anything on ya but we are still classmates right? That means we're at least allies in a way or at least how I see it."

Kokichi raised an eyebrow at that comment before thinking about how to respond.

"Really? I'm not sure I'd want to be even a part time acquaintance with someone who just forces where he thinks people should stand with one another.
"What?! That's not even remotely what I meant or said. How did you get any of that from my comment?" Kokichi couldn't help but laugh at the goofy look of confusion on his face. Overthinking things was something Kokichi tended to do more often then he'd like to admit. Maybe Kaito didn't have a vain or dark motive with being nice. His earlier words didn't seem to be lies but he wasn't going to let any guards down that easy. He needed to know more.

"Tell me then. What would you gain from me getting better at math or being an acquaintance with me in any way? More importantly what would I get out it?"

Kaito's face became somehow even more confused looking as if he was just asked what color his underwear tasted like.

"I'm not really following what you mean by gain man. I'd just be happy I was able to help out. You wouldn't have to worry about math anymore. I know what its like to struggle with something that should be easy for you. Its not a total requirement for me to know more then Japanese but it helps for my future job. I was asked to try and learn bits of 3 languages and got fluent in 2 but the 3rd is a bit rough for me despite that it shouldn't be. It isn't something I truly need to know but I'd appreciate if someone gave me a hand anyway."
Out of all responses he wasn't really expecting something that simple to be the answer but oversimplifying things was a very Kaito thing to expect in a way.

"That is the most boring reason I've ever heard."

"Well I mean that's all I got. What did you want?"

"I'll have to sit on what I want out of it later. In the mean time, maybe I'll meet up with Kiyo for lessons just to see how it goes and get you off my back."

Despite the rude indifference he said it with Kaito smiled in response.

"Sweet, let's swap numbers and I can text you a time."

Next week

Kokichi couldn't say if he wanted to thank Kaito or hit him with something smelly from a sling shot at the end of the week.

Turns out studying with your crush isn't as romantic as the movies and just really awkward. Still it felt good to learn some more about Korekiyo. He felt a bit more confident about his test as well.
He was about halfway to his locker when he remember he left an important notebook for the next class. Just as he put his hand to the math classroom door he heard a shout.
"WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!?" An angry voice that could only belong to Kaito could be heard. Opening the door only a fraction so he could see, Kokichi witnessed Kaito looking ready to punch their teacher into next week.

The man leaned back in his chair looking as confused by kaito's outburst as kokichi felt. Kaito getting worked up at someone enough to shout wasn't surprising within itself. The thing was he usually was for the most part good at keeping his temper around teachers even if he disagreed with them. Kokichi wasn't one to believe in things like gut instinct much but something told him to record this encounter. With that in mind kokichi took out his phone and starts to record.

"I don't see what's the issue here boy. All I'm asking is for you to make sure that oumeno kid's paper goes missing for a bit when I had them out tomorrow. Then I'll raise you extra credit when you give it to me to correct since I don't have the write tools for it right now. He had to have cheated for these answers anyway. You and I both know he'd deserve it. "

This response only seemed to make kaito look even madder. "His name is ouma and like I said what do you mean he deserves it?! I know he can be a lair but I still believe he didn't cheat. A friend of mine even told me they studied together so I know he worked for these answers fair and square. What kind of teacher tries to forge a kids test so they fail?"
"Why are you making this difficult kaimaki? Like you said he's a liar. From what I've heard about the number of arguments you two have I don't see why you care what happens to him." The sub responded

"Firstly my name is Kaito. Even akane has been able to remember it by now. Second yeah we have arguments but that doesn't mean I hate him. We have different opinions and sometimes butt heads over it. That's not a reason to want to see him fail."

The teacher frowned at this response. The rotten teacher reached into his pocket to produce his wallet and slide some money across the table." How much do you need to change your mind then?"

Kaito smacked the wallet out his face. The teacher's face went red to this and he promptly got up to shout while marching out the room on his phone.
"Your just as much a punk as the rest here, I should have you kicked out for that assault just now!"
Somehow he didn't notice walking right past kokichi who hid behind the door.

Kaito was practically on the mans heels but jumped back in surprise when he saw kokichi there.
"Hey how long were you there? Your going to think I'm lying here but-" Kokichi stopped him from talking by raising one hand and showing his phone in the other.
"Don't worry, I believe you. If it was just my word then the principle probably wouldn't believe it but this video should be enough to get that loser fired. Why did you defend me though? "
All this got him was stared at like he just asked what color the grass was.

"If you were listening in I already said why. Just being annoying isn't a reason to want you to fail. We may not be close enough that you want to call me a friend but your my classmate regardless." Kaito said.

"I guess he really was being honest about it the first time." Kokichi realized. While he knew that his mindset to mistrust others wasn't always wrong he guessed he could make an exception. This once at least.
"Say, what language did you say that you were struggling with? I might know a few people in my organization that can help you but you'll have to sign an oath in blood."

Kaito looked nervous while chuckling at the comment. "For once I really hope your lying."

Funny little backstory to this one. I had actually asked someone to make a one-shot of them using this scenario of Kaito defending kokichi against a mean teacher years ago as a request. I had a few other scenarios in my mind when I remembered since I think that person just ended up not doing any DR requests since they were pretty new to the franchise and was unsure. No shade at them, I completely understand being unsure of what your doing. Decided to make it platonic and dab a bit of Kiyo/Kokichi for the few fans of it out there I know exist.

I might just start writing this stuff in either google docs or microsoft word because these docs are starting to add grammar errors that didn't exist when saved. I can screw up the English language on my own thank you very much.

Next on up is everyone's favorite anthropologist, not that there are that many in media: Korekiyo Shinguji.
