*Flashback*

Mina had decided to stay on with Professor Kettleburn to help him clean up after her class had ended. Once they were finished she headed back up to the castle. She was halfway up the lake when she noticed a rather large crowd growing around a massive tree on the side of the lake.

"Do it Potter!" shouted a male student.

"Yeah, show that worm who's boss!" yelled another.

Mina didn't need to hear anymore, she knew exactly what was going on. Every time she came to this school there was always one student that everyone else would bully. Well not this year she thought as pulled her wand out and started shoving students to the side.

"MOVE!" she shouted as she pointed her wand at them.

The startled students jumped aside, afraid of what would happen if they didn't. Once Mina got to the center of the crowd she saw a young wizard with slick black hair dangling upside down in the air with his pants hanging down exposing his underwear for all to see. Mina recognized him as one of her house mates. The other Slytherins referred to him by his last name, Snape. She had yet to speak to him but when she had noticed him for the first couple times today she saw that he was always alone and scribbling stuff down in a small copy of an advanced potions book. Mina charged forward and slashed her wand in the air. James Potter was immediately thrown into the air and tossed into the lake with a loud splash. Mina had shared a Transfiguration class with a few Gryffindors earlier in the day and she remembered James Potter as being the one who couldn't keep his mouth shut the entire class which caused him to lose 15 points for Gryffindor already. Peter Pettigrew, who sat next to him in Transfiguration, jumped in to defend James and cast a disarming spell at Mina.

"Expelliarmus!" Peter shouted as Mina's wand went flying from her hand.

"Give me my wand!" she screamed as she lunged forward only to be grabbed up by none other than Sirius Black.

"Calm Down Isla, it's just a joke." Sirius laughed warmly into her ear as he wrapped his arms around her.

"Get off of me!" she seethed as she slammed her heel down as hard as she could on Sirius's foot.

Handsome or not, that did not give Sirius a right to pick on another student.

"OW!" Sirius cried out as he let Isla go and dropped to the ground.

Remus Lupin, another Gryffindor rushed forward to try and help Sirius only to catch a right hook from her in the stomach. Remus cried out as she spun around to set her sights on Peter again.

"Give me my wand Peter!" she barked at him.

Peter being the coward that Mina would later know him for, tossed her wand back at her and took off running as fast as he could.

"I'll deal with you later!" she yelled after him as she swung back around and did the spell to get Severus down and back on the ground.

Isla ran over and tried to block everyone's view of Severus with her cloak as he quickly pulled his pants up and redid his belt.

"Are you okay?" she asked as he tried to hide his face from her.

Without a word, the boy grabbed his books and took off running towards the Castle. She watched as a young Lilly Evans, later to be known as Lilly Potter, ran off after him. She decided to let him be for now but she would make it it a priority to check on him later.

"What a prude!" James sneered as he trudged out of the lake.

"And you are a bully!" She growled as she started walking his way.

"Now, now. Let's not say things we could grow to regret." Remus encouraged as he stepped between them.

"You want to duel Knox?" James challenged.

"Yeah, I would love to! Name the time and place Potter!" she replied loudly as she pushed up against Remus's outstretched arm.

"That's quite enough!" called out a voice as Professor Kettleburn turned up.

"I couldn't agree more." Came Professor McGonagall's voice as she appeared from the other side of the crowd.

"Explain yourselves." Kettleburn instructed.

"These imbeciles were bullying Snape." She explained flatly as she put her wand away and crossed her arms over her chest.

"How many times must we tell you to leave that poor boy alone!" Professor McGonagall seethed as she shot the boys a nasty glare.

"Detention. For you all." Professor Kettleburn announced.

"That goes for you too, Knox. As noble as it was of you for defending Severus, those type of actions are not permitted here at Hogwarts." Professor McGonagall said in a matter of fact tone.

"Well if they wouldn't have attacked another student, I wouldn't have had to take those type of actions." She hissed.

"She's such a nuisance." James muttered as he peeled off his soaked cloak and threw it to the ground.

"I think she's rather brilliant." Sirius answered as he looked at her with an adoring smile.

"Gross! Get yourself together. She's a Slytherin for God's sake!" James spat as he snatched his cloak off the ground and stormed off towards the castle.

The crowd had finally dispersed and the professors slowly made their way back towards the castle keeping a close eye on them as they went. Mina let out a frustrated sigh as she grabbed her bag from off the ground and turned to follow McGonagall back up to the castle to plead her case but instead found herself face to face with Sirius Black.

"I'm sorry for Severus. James can get a little out of hand with him sometimes." Sirius confessed as he looked down at his feet.

"Don't apologize to me. Go apologize to Severus!" She growled as she attempted to push past him to get back up to the castle.

"Isla wait." He said softly as he reached and touched her forearm lightly.

"What is it?" Mina sighed as she took a deep breath and turned her head to face him.

"I don't want you to think I'm a bad person because of this. I truly am sorry." Sirius pleaded as she rolled her eyes and refused to look at him.

"I meant what I said before. I do think you are brilliant and very beautiful." He said to her in a hushed tone as their eyes met.

Mina felt a slight blush rise up her cheeks as she turned her eyes away from his gorgeous face.

"Alright Fine. I forgive you, but just this one time." Mina warned him, although she already knew deep down that this would be the first of many times she would end up forgiving Sirius.

Sirius's face broke out into a wide goofy grin.

"But this does not mean that I'm not allowed to be mad at you because I am. You and your friends have gotten me into detention!" Mina said in a matter of fact tone as she wagged her finger at him.

"I know. But I do look forward to having detention with you." Sirius confessed as he smirked at her before giving her a suggestive wink. He then turned to walk back up to the castle with Remus who had been standing idly about listening in on their conversation with a stupid smile on his face.

Mina stood there at a loss for words starring after Sirius, long after he hand gone inside wondering just exactly what she was getting herself into.

*Present Time*

The students finally arrived in the great hall and after about thirty minutes of random announcements from Dumbledore it was finally time for the sorting ceremony. Mina and Severus sat on the outside of the room next to a large window as the first years made their way up to be sorted. Mina sat impatiently as the sorting ceremony seemed to go on for what seemed like hours.

"Will they ever invent a way for this to go any quicker." Mina muttered under her breath as she tapped her foot on the ground impatiently.

"What would you suggest since you've gone through this ceremony more times than most?" Severus laughed as Mina turned and playfully smacked him on the arm.

"Hey now, we can't have you doing that in front of the other students. They may start to think I like you or something." He teased with an amused look on his face.

"Well it's not like you're supposed to be my God Father or anything." Mina replied as she stuck her tongue out at him.

"So mature." Severus chuckled as he crossed his arms over his chest.

Many of the older students had already spotted Mina and were giving her odd glances and whispering back and forth with their friends.

"I bet you they think you're just a student in trouble since you're sitting over here with me." Severus said in a hushed tone as he eyeballed the students which caused them to quickly turn back around.

"I will take that bet because I would hope most of these older kids would know their own classmates by now." Mina scoffed as she turned to shake on their bet.

"You'd be surprised. Wait what are we betting?" Severus asked as he shook Mina's hand quickly.

"Umm…the usual. 10 Galleons and a all expenses paid meal from the Three Broomsticks." Mina smirked.

"Wow, now there's something we haven't done in years. Fine yes I'll bet that!" Severus nodded as he turned to watch the last first year get sorted.

"Hufflepuff!" the hat shouted out as the last student got up and ran towards his table.

"Yes Congratulations to all the new students! Now I do have two more announcements before we dig into tonight's dinner. The first being that our very own, Professor Snape will be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts this year." Dumbledore started to say as Mina burst into a very enthusiastic solo applause.

The room remained silent except for Mina's claps as the other students all turned to look at her, Most with disgusted looks on their faces. Meanwhile Severus was coughing to try cover up the fact that he was dying of laughter. Mina's claps became very quiet until they stopped completely while Severus was still coughing away.

"Yes Bravo! Well Done Severus." Dumbledore teased with an amused look on his face as he continued, "Which means Potions this year will be taught by Professor Slughorn."

The Great Hall burst into whispers as the students starting coming up with theories on how Snape could have finally landed his dream job.

"And Finally, I would like to introduce you all to Miss Mina Smith." Dumbledore said loudly causing the whispering to stop as he gestured to Mina, "Mina is a 6th year transfer student from America who due to unfortunate circumstances has come to stay here at Hogwarts under the supervision of her God Father, Professor Snape."

With that the great hall erupted into sounds of shock and confusion. Unable to continue whispering some of the students were loud enough that Mina could hear them.

"Wow, Snape is her God Father. Most unlucky girl in the world, better steer clear of her." Said a young wizard at the Ravenclaw table.

"I didn't know Snape had a God daughter…" Another said loudly from the Slytherin table.

"If you all are quite finished." Dumbledore said over top the students until they all became silent again, "Since Mina is a 6th year transfer we did not feel it necessary to submit her to a public sorting ceremony. Therefore Miss Smith will be joining Slytherin house. Welcome to Hogwarts, Miss Smith."

The Slytherin table erupted into obnoxious loud cheers as Dumbledore nodded at Mina and gestured for her to go join her house. Mina got up reluctantly as Severus stood up and walked over to his empty seat at the staff table. Mina walked towards the Slytherin table seeing several of the older males attempting to make room at the table for her but Mina simply ignored them and climbed into an empty seat next to Platinum Blond boy who didn't seem to be paying attention to anything that was going on.

"Now, Let the feast begin!" Dumbledore called out as the plates and goblets in front of all the students filled with food and drink.

"So what are wizarding schools like in America?" asked a young wizard seated directly across from Mina who was the perfect epitome of tall, dark and handsome.

"The same as any wizarding school I'd expect." Mina replied honestly as she turned her attention to grabbing up some food.

"So what was the unfortunate circumstance that got you landed here?" asked another student with a mouth full of food.

"Crabbe, you can't just go around being rude. I apologize Miss Smith, not all of us are as tactless and insensitive. I'm Blaise by the way." The boy said as he introduced himself.

"That idiot there is Crabbe and his disgusting counterpart there is Goyle." Blaise continued as he pointed to Crabbe and the boy next to him who had food dripping all over his chin and down his shirt.

"This here is Theodore and that bloke next to you who has no idea what is going on, is Draco." Blaise finished as he nodded over at Draco who had his head balanced on his hand was starring off into space.

"Huh, What's that?" Draco asked as if waking up from a trance.

"Draco, Meet Mina. A new transfer student from America." Blaise said quickly as he motioned to Mina, while he lifted his goblet to his lips to take a drink and raised his eyebrows at Draco suggestively.

Draco turned and seemed genuinely startled by Mina's presence.

"So Sorry, My mind was on other things. Nice to meet you." Draco said as he made himself sit up straight offered his hand to Mina.

Mina took his hand and allowed herself to meet his eyes. As she took in his full face she was immediately reminded of another student she had known in the past.

"Are you related to Lucius Malfoy?" Mina let slip out without thinking as she shook his hand.

"Yes, he's my father. Do you know him?" Draco cautiously asked as his icy blue eyes searched her face for a reaction as he slowly let go of her hand.

"Not personally but I know of him and I've seen a few photos of him with My Uncle Severus." Mina replied as she tried to think of something off the top of her head.

"Snape is your Uncle?" he sneered while making an unpleasant face.

"Yes, well he's my God Father to be exact but I've always called him Uncle." Mina retorted with Pride as she gave Draco a warning glare.

"That's quite interesting. In all the years My family has known Professor Snape there was never any talk of, or even a hint that he had a God Daughter." Draco challenged as he squinted his eyes to look down at Mina.

The other boys had stopped talking and now were observing Mina and Draco's conversation with great interest.

"Well that is odd but now when you say your family has "known" him, do you mean as in they are close friends or just acquaintances? Because I'd never tell someone I considered an acquaintance about a beloved family member, but hey maybe that's just me." Mina replied as she looked directly into his icy blue eyes almost daring him to say something stupid.

"Hmm. Good point." Was all he managed to say as tilted his head and raised his one eyebrow slightly.

Draco was very handsome but that didn't surprise Mina any. Lucius Malfoy had also been very attractive too but he was a complete jerk. Mina hoped that his son did not follow in his footsteps.

"So Mina, tell us about yourself." Blaise insisted as he gave her a warm smile.

"Well, what would you like to know?" Mina asked as she glanced around the table giving them permission to go ahead and ask.

"What's you favorite color?" Crabbe called out suddenly with a mouth full of food.

"Surprisingly enough, it's Green. Emerald Green, to be exact." Mina replied as she picked up her fork and started to munch on some roasted potatoes.

"What's your favorite subject?" a young frail looking girl with dark stiff hair asked softly.

"For me it's always been Care of Magical Creatures. What's yours…." Mina asked with a encouraging smile as she noticed a look of annoyance on the boy's faces.

"Astoria Greengrass, and that's my favorite subject too!" she beamed back.

"Well it's lovely to meet you Astoria." Mina nodded as a bright smile spread across Astoria's face.

"Yeah, nice to actually see you Greengrass, you know since any other time you're always laid up sick in the hospital wing." Laughed Goyle as he stuffed his face with more food.

"Being rude just for the sake of being rude is an extremely unattractive quality. I very much doubt that Astoria likes being sick all the time. So show a little respect." Mina shot back with a matter of fact tone causing Goyle's mouth to fall open and the other boys to look at her with shocked looks on their faces.

Draco turned slightly in his seat to hide his blushing face.

"What has no one ever told you off for being jerks before?" Mina huffed as she rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Astoria who was now giggling at the boys reactions.

The rest of the feast went on with no further mean comments from the boys. Mina knew it was because Severus was her "God Father" which would keep most of the students from bothering her. Young Astoria was talking Mina's ears off which she did not mind at all because she could tell from her mannerisms that most of her fellow Slytherin classmates shared Goyle's opinion of her. All that is except for Daphne, Astoria's older sister who nodded a silent thanks in Mina's direction when she heard her tell the boys off.

"Well I'm stuffed. Would you mind showing me where the common room is?" Mina asked as she saw Astoria getting ready to head out herself.

"I would love to but I have to stop at the hospital wing first." Astoria said as she cast her eyes down to the floor.

"Oh okay, well do you mind if I tag along?" Mina asked.

"Yes, of course you can. Hey Daphne, Mina is going to go with me to the hospital wing tonight so you can stay here a bit longer if you'd like." Astoria replied sounding rather excited that someone actually wanted to do something with her.

"Oh okay. Um, Thanks Mina." Daphne said sounding quite caught off guard as she once again nodded to Mina.

"Anytime! Well goodnight everyone." Mina said to no one in particular as she got up from the table to follow Astoria.

"See you around!" Blaise said he took another bite of his apple pie and waved enthusiastically.

"Yes, Goodnight Mina." Draco replied as he slowly turned to give Mina a very suspicious look.

Mina just nodded as she gave Draco a sly smile. She and Astoria got up from the table and exited the great hall. The girls walked in silence to the hospital wing as most of the other students were either in the great hall still or headed to their common rooms.

"Evening Miss Greengrass! Ah, I see you brought a friend with you." Madam Pomfrey smiled with approval as Mina stopped just within the doorway.

"Hello Madam Pomfrey." Astoria called as she walked around the side of her desk and towards the small private bathroom towards the back of the room.

"I'll go get your medicine ready." Madam Pomfrey called after her as she pulled out a rather large sized bottle and an empty needle.

"It was very gracious of you to come with her. The poor child has no friends to speak of besides her sister." Madam Pomfrey confessed to her in a hushed tone.

"What's wrong with her, if you don't mind me asking?" Mina whispered as she got closer to try and inspect the bottle Madam Pomfrey was using to fill up the syringe.

"Blood Malediction." Astoria answered as she walked over to the table with robe and shirt removed.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to pry." Mina apologized.

"Oh don't apologize. It's not a big secret or anything. Actually no one has ever asked before but that's probably because most of them already knew." Astoria said in a matter of fact tone as Madam Pomfrey inserted the needle into her arm.

"All done. I'll see you this time in 3 days." Madam Pomfrey said as she removed the needle from Astoria's arm.

"Thank you." Astoria smiled as she turned and went back into the bathroom.

Astoria finally came back out fully dressed as they both bid goodnight to Madam Pomfrey and headed for the Slytherin common room.

"Thank you for coming with me." Astoria said sweetly.

"Oh no problem at all! No one should ever have to do those kinds of things alone." Mina replied as they made their way to the door on the right side of the entrance hall and climbed down the narrow staircase to the dungeons.

"I couldn't agree more! Salazar." Astoria said as they came to a section in the stone wall that Mina was all too familiar with.

Suddenly a doorway appeared as the two girls descended into the Slytherin Common Room.

"Ah Mina. I just came by to do a quick check in." Severus called as he stood up from the chair next to the fireplace and made his way over to the girls.

"Oh, you didn't have to do that." Mina insisted.

"I see that now. Thank you Miss Greengrass for helping my Mina out." Severus said dryly as he gave Mina a look when Astoria wasn't looking.

"I am rather tired. Uncle would you mind showing me where I'll be sleeping tonight?" Mina said as she faked a yawn.

Severus nodded as he turned on his heel and stalked off towards the bedrooms as he cloak swooshed behind him.

"Goodnight Astoria. I'll see you in the morning!" Mina smiled as she gave her a quick wave and followed after her Uncle.

"Night!" Astoria smiled as she waved.

Mina followed Severus down another flight of steps, past all the other bedrooms, to a room she knew almost as well as her own personal bedroom.

"Wow, it hasn't changed since the last time I was here." Mina exhaled as she and Severus entered her room with her one singular bed.

"Dumbledore said he was going to convert it into another Head Boys room when I told him I wouldn't be coming back. However did you manage to talk him out of it?" Mina asked as she went over and flopped onto her old bed.

"Well for one, this room had been yours long before Dumbledore came to Hogwarts and two, it has the secret escape passage, just in case." Severus replied as he took a seat in the empty sitting chair near the window that looked out into the great lake.

"Well however you managed it, Thank you!" Mina beamed as she sat up, hugging one of her old decorative pillows tightly.

"Don't go thanking me just yet. I actually came down here to warn you." Severus said in a dry tone.

"Warn me of what?" Mina asked as she sat up and looked him in the eyes.

"Of Draco. You'll no doubt remember his Father Lucius." Snape started.

"Of course I do. That pompous ass, how could I ever forget him?" Mina sneered through gritted teeth.

"Then you remember that Lucius is a death eater." Severus said plainly.

"Yes but so are dozens of other Slytherin parents." Mina added.

"True but Draco's Mother is Narcissa." Severus said slowly as he watched Mina carefully.

Mina felt her blood begin to boil.

"Which means Bellatrix is his Aunt." Mina growled as her fingernails dug into the pillow.

Bellatrix Lestrange was the one witch that Mina hated above all others. She swore she would have revenge on her for what she did to Sirius.

"Just be careful, I don't know what I'd do if Voldemort, let alone that beast of a woman got a hold of you." Severus confessed as he got to his feet slowly.

"You don't have to worry about me, Sev. Because, there is nothing they could do to me that hasn't been done before." Mina said honestly,"Worry for them, because if my paths cross with that Bitch in anyway, I will kill her."
