*Flashback*

It was after hours and everyone else in the castle was no doubt asleep, meanwhile Mina found herself trudging behind Mr. Filch who was leading her out to the Qudditch Pitch to serve for her detention. She was carrying a bucket filled with a soapy substance and a bunch of sponges. As they neared the pitch Mina could make out the shape of Professor McGonagall and a few other slender figures behind her.

"Nice of you to join us Miss Knox." She seethed in a monotone voice as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Sorry, I forgot." Mina said as placed the bucket down on the ground and yawned loudly.

"Typical Slytherin, not caring about anyone but themselves." James spat as he glared at Mina.

"Oh look a typical Gryffindor who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut or maybe I should just shut it for you." Mina challenged as she reached for her wand.

"ENOUGH!" the Professor barked as she crossed over and plucked Mina's wand from out of her hands.

Mina shot her a warning look as Professor McGonagall gave her one right back.

"Your detention tonight will be to clean the Qudditch Pitch, without using magic. Now hand over your wands." She instructed as she held her hands out to the boys.

The boys whined but eventually gave their wands over to Professor McGonagall.

"Each of you will have a specific job, Isla you are in charge of scrubbing down all of the benches. James you will be in charge of mopping, Remus you are in charge of sweeping and Sirius you will pick up all the trash." Professor McGonagall called out as they all huffed in unison.

"What about Pettigrew?" Mina sneered.

"What about him?" she asked.

"He was involved too, yet I don't see him here." Mina added in a matter of fact tone as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Snitch much?" James muttered.

"Oh was he now? Good to know. Mr. Filch, would you be so kind as to go fetch Mr. Pettigrew." McGonagall said.

"She's a Slytherin and you're just going to take her word for what happened?" James added as he picked up the mop from the ground.

"Do you have a problem with that ?" Professor McGonagall asked as she turned to stare at him.

"No…" he growled as he picked up the mop and headed into the Qudditch Pitch.

Mina watched as Professor McGonagall followed closely behind James. Mina leaned over picked up the bucket and headed towards the entrance to the pitch.

"Evening Isla." Sirius smiled as he grabbed his empty bucket and rushed over to her side.

"Hello Sirius." she smiled back as she felt her annoyance melt away.

"How are you?" he asked as he followed her into the pitch.

"Could be better. I could be sleeping." Mina sighed as she started to climb the stairs to the pitch.

"Yes you could be, but then I wouldn't be able to see your pretty face." Sirius flirted as he gave her a quick wink.

Mina felt a blush rise up her cheeks as she turned her face away from Sirius to try and hide it from him.

"Mr. Black and Miss Knox, kindly separate from one another. This is not social hour." McGonagall called out from a random bench towards the Gryffindor stands as she once again turned her attention back to the book that was in her hand.

Sirius nodded and gave Mina another dazzling smile before wandering away towards the Hufflepuff section of the stands.

About twenty minutes after they had arrived, Filch finally returned with Peter who was assigned with hand picking weeds from around the Qudditch field. Mina felt herself continuously glancing over at Sirius without meaning to and nearly every time she looked his way, she noticed that he was already looking at her. They both kept smiling and looking away when they caught each other.

Mina was too busy focusing on Sirius and her benches that she didn't hear Remus make his way over into her section.

"I've never seen him so taken with someone before." Remus said softly as he gave Mina an encouraging smile.

Mina just blushed and turned her attention back to her work. Remus made a quick sweep through the area and moved onto the Ravenclaw section. Mina finally finished scrubbing down the Slytherin benches and moved over to the Gryffindor section to avoid being stuck in the same section as James who was also in the Ravenclaw area.

"I cannot believe how much trash there is." Sirius huffed aloud causing Mina to jump slightly as she realized he was now in the Gryffindor section with her.

"If you think that's bad you should see all the sticky stuff and gum on the undersides of these benches." Mina added.

"Ew, no I'll stick to trash." He said as he made a disgusted face.

"Yeah I envy you. At Ilvermony, the Qudditch pitch was always a big hook up spot." Mina confessed as she scrubbed down the next bench with an equally disgusted face.

"Did you go there a lot?" Sirius asked and as soon as he said it a horrified look crossed his face.

"I mean, not like that.. but I'm sure you've dated someone at Ilvermony." Sirius blushed as he cast his eyes down.

"Actually No." Mina confessed as Sirius turned his head to look over Mina slowly.

"Is there a reason?" he asked quietly.

"I just was never that interested in anyone." Mina told him as she continued scrubbing the bench.

"And what about now?" Sirius asked as he stepped closer to Mina.

Their eyes met and Mina's gaze dropped down to Sirius's lips as she found herself suddenly yearning to kiss him.

"Is that the time! Alright children let's pack up and get back in the castle!" Professor McGonagall cried out as she rose to her feet and snapped her book shut.

Sirius and Mina stood there still staring at one another as a small smile tugged at the corners of Mina's lips.

"But I'm not finished." Remus called out.

"Oh that's quite alright, I'm sure you boys will be back in detention before the week is out." She said as she rolled her eyes and motioned for them to leave the pitch.

Mina grabbed up her bucket and sponges as Sirius followed behind her with his trash can.

"Mr. Filch, if you wouldn't mind seeing the boys back to their common room. I'll escort Miss Knox back to her common room since I need to stop in and have a quick chat with Professor Slughorn." Professor McGonagall said as she reached into her robe and pulled the boy's wands out and handed them over to Mr. Filch.

"Yes of course Ma'am." He replied as he accepted the wands and ushered the boys away.

"Goodnight Isla" Sirius called after her as he gave her a quick wave and chased after his friends and Filch.

"Of all the boys…Sirius Black?" Professor McGonagall asked as she eyed Mina thoughtfully.

"I don't even know what to say. I don't know what's happening." Mina confessed as she followed the Professor down into the dungeons.

"I know Dumbledore said you're usually very good about keeping to yourself but you should know that wherever there is trouble, that boy and his band of friends are sure to find it. Just be careful." McGonagall exhaled as a small smile crept up her face.

"Always am." Mina nodded.

*Present Time*

The first day of class was never as nerve wrecking for Mina as it was for the other students. Mina took her time getting ready and then took even longer making her way to the great hall. She did her very best to look as if she had no idea where she was. As she was entering the great hall a voice sounded from behind her which made her jump.

"I waited to see if you would need help finding the great hall but it seems you were able to sneak out before me." Draco's voice drawled on as he came up beside her suddenly.

"Oh, yeah I used the map." Mina explained as she quickly held up a tattered map and shook it lightly back and forth in the air.

"Alright, but as head boy it is my job to show you around." He spoke slowly as he fidgeted with his hands.

"No need! I'm great at figuring things out on my own but thank you." Mina exclaimed as she gave him a quick fake smile.

"Hmm." Draco replied as he gave her a quick glance over and then sauntered away taking his seat at the table.

Mina attempting to avoid anymore unpleasant interactions with Draco, power walked past the Slytherin table and made her way up to the teachers table and sat down in the empty chair next to Severus.

"And exactly what do you think you are doing?" Severus said aloud while still keeping his eyes glued to his copy of the daily prophet.

"Eating breakfast with my favorite God Father of course!" Mina smirked as she leaned over and started to grab some food off of the table.

"You happen to be in Professor McGonagall's seat." He informed her as he folded his paper over and sat it down on the table beside his plate.

"She won't mind." Mina answered as she took a bite of her croissant. "So, I don't think the Malfoy boy is as stupid as we think he is."

"That's exactly what I was trying to tell you last night." Severus answered in a bored tone.

"No, you said to watch out because of his father. However you did not say that the boy was going to be stalking me because he finds me suspicious. He even had the nerve to tell me it was because he was head boy." Mina spoke in a hushed tone so only Severus could hear her.

"I'll keep an eye out but just try not to do anything too foolish around the boy." Severus warned.

"Like what insult his Father? Oh how are you Draco, by the way your Dad is a complete piece of…" Mina started as someone cut in.

"Oh are we discussing the Malfoy boy?" Professor Dumbledore asked sounding completely delighted about interrupting their conversation.

"How could you tell?" Mina replied as she rolled her eyes.

"I don't wish to be a bother but perhaps it would be more ideal if you were to sit with your fellow classmates." Dumbledore hinted as Professor McGonagall appeared on the other side of the table glancing curiously up at Mina.

"Fine. But You and I will continue our discussion later." Mina said as she pointed at Snape as she reached down picked up her plate and headed back over to the Slytherin table.

"Don't worry I'll fetch you another plate Minerva." Mina heard Severus say as she walked away.

Mina decided to take the empty seat next to Blaise on the opposite side of the table from Draco.

"Morning Mina!" Blaise greeted her with a big grin.

"Good Morning Blaise!" she replied.

"Oh here's your schedule, Draco has been trying to hold it hostage but I stole it from him for you." Blaise tattled as he handed the bit of rolled parchment over to Mina.

"Oh Goodie." Mina answered as she glared in Draco's general direction before glancing over her schedule.

"What classes do you have?" Blaise asked as he brought his schedule closer for him to compare it to hers.

Mina looked over his schedule and then back at hers.

"We have a lot of classes together with the exception of Divination and Astronomy." Mina answered him.

"Wait what? You don't have to take those?" Blaise questioned as Mina saw Draco attempting to hide the fact that he was listening in.

"Oh no. I tested out of those in Ilvermony and Dumbledore decided it would be best to keep my schedule here as close as it could be to the one I had in Ilvermony." She smiled in relief.

In actuality, Mina had told them that in order for her to come back she would take any and all classes besides those ones because she held such a hatred for them.

"That's awesome! I wish I could do that." Blaise pouted as he looked over his schedule again.

"What do you have in place of those classes?" Draco's voice suddenly spoke.

"Advanced Care of Magical Creatures and a Free period. Though I'll most likely spend my free period helping out with Care of Magical Creatures." Mina confessed as she suddenly felt super excited.

"I wouldn't get too stoked about that, Hagrid is not the best of teachers." Blaise explained as he took a chance on glancing over at Draco.

"Oh, I'm sure he's not as bad as you think he is." Mina giggled.

"Psh, you'll see. Draco almost lost his arm in that class a few years back." Blaise confessed.

"Was that really Hagrid's fault or does Draco just not know how to follow directions?" Mina asked as her eyes locked with Draco's icy blue ones.

She saw a dark look come over his face as his lip curled up.

"What did you say?" he barked.

"I said I very much doubt this Hagrid fellow is in fact a bad teacher. Your incident was more than likely your own fault… At least that's my experience when it comes to accidents in that particular class." Mina shrugged as she took a bite of a piece of French toast.

"How dare you!" he growled at her as the muscle in his bottom jaw began to flex.

"What did I say something wrong?" Mina asked innocently as she battered her eyelashes up at him.

Draco just growled under his breath, stood up and stormed out of the great hall without finishing his food.

"Some people can be so touchy." Mina smirked as she watched him go.

"Draco's just got a lot on his mind right now." Blaise said trying to make excuses for him.

"Don't we all." Mina added.

Mina walked to her first class with Blaise, Theodore, Crabbe and Goyle. They were all chatting about Qudditch quite animatedly.

"So you were a keeper in America?" Blaise asked again.

"Yes, a pretty good one if I do say so myself." Mina laughed again.

"Well you know you have to try out for the team!" Blaise insisted.

"Of course I would love to! When are the tryouts?" Mina asked.

"Next Tuesday!" Theodore answered as they entered the Charms classroom.

"Welcome students!" Professor Flitwick cried out, "If you'd all be as so kind as to remain standing as I give you all your assigned seats!"

"Longbottom and Finnigan." He called out as he pointed to the first desk on the right.

"Oh great Gryffindorks." Crabbe laughed as the other boys joined in.

"Crabbe and Goyle." He called out again as he pointed to the next desk.

"Brown and Patil." He continued.

"Zabini and Nott."

Mina glanced around the room at the rest of the nervous students.

"Next Row! Our newest student, Miss Smith. Welcome Miss Smith! I'll pair you up with... Malfoy!" he said cheerfully as Mina felt her stomach drop as she slowly stepped over to the desk.

Draco appeared from out of no where and dropped into the seat next to her.

"Fantastic." She said sarcastically as she dropped her bag on the floor.

"I'm just as thrilled as you are." Draco replied dryly as he hung his bag over the back of his chair and leaned back in his chair.

"Potter and Weasley." The Professor called out.

That caught Mina's attention as she spun around to glance over at Harry Potter who had been seated directly behind them. Harry had messy dark hair and was the spitting image of his Father except for his eyes. His eyes like Severus had said a million times over were Lily's eyes. Harry's eyes met Mina's and as they did he blushed wildly and started fidgeting with his bag.

"Oh of course! Just can't wait to catch a glimpse of the famous Harry Potter." Draco growled as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"What are you jealous Draco?" she asked as she turned to look at him.

"Don't be ridiculous." He seethed.

"I didn't think I was being ridiculous. You seem to be very bothered because I was looking at Harry who is arguably the most famous wizard of our time." Mina put out there as she looked from Draco to Harry.

Draco didn't say anything else as he turned away from Mina and put his head in his hands.

"Anyway, It's nice to meet you. I'm Mina." Mina said as she introduced herself.

"Oh right Professor Snape's God daughter." Harry nodded as he leaned over his desk and reached his hand out to her.

Mina took his hand and shook it quickly.

"I'm Ron." Ron butted in as he too held his hand out to Mina.

"Nice to meet you Ron!" she smiled as she shook his hand.

"Professor Flitwick, I demand you move me to another seat." Draco called out as he stood up quickly.

"Mr. Malfoy I'm not moving anyone around just to suit your fancy, now if you'd please have a seat so that we could begin." Professor Flitwick instructed as he waved his wand and took his place standing on a tall pile of books.

"Guess he told you, partner." Mina teased as she winked at Draco.

"Oh I like her." Mina could hear Ron whisper to Harry which made Mina smile.

Draco sighed loudly as he ran his fingers through his hair and fell back into his seat.

"Now today class we are going to be working on the water-making spell better known as the Aguamenti Charm. This allows for the witch or wizard to conjure water that is clean and drinkable." The Professor explained as he waved his wand and a bunch of empty glasses started to float around and land in front of every student.

"Now you each have a glass in front of you I want you to repeat after me, Aguamenti" Professor Flitwick instructed as he slowly flicked his wand and the empty glass in front of him suddenly filled with water.

He had the class say the charm aloud several times before teaching them the proper motion to use with their wand. Then it was time for them all to try it on their own. The Professor walked about the classroom to guide and help the students as he saw fit.

Mina knew, after taking this class many times over that only a handful of the students would be able to do this spell successfully on the first day of them learning it. For most of them it would take several days and a lot of practice.

"Aguamenti" Draco said coolly as he flicked his wand up and down as they both watched and nothing happened.

"Your motion is a bit off, it's more of a left to right movement." Mina confessed as she demonstrated it with her own wand.

"Oh spare me. I'll do this on my own and I'll be able to do it long before you can." Draco sneered as he attempted to cast the spell again.

"I'm telling you, it's wrong." Mina repeated as she sat back in her chair to watch him.

"It is not!" he spat as he did it again.

Just as he said that another student in the row in front of them tried to cast the spell the same way Draco did.

"Aguamenti!" the boy shouted as there was a huge flash of light and the glass in front of the boy exploded causing Mina and Draco to duck and take cover on the floor.

Mina sat just inches apart from Draco as he shielded both of their faces with his bag.

"Mr. Finnigan, how do you always manage to make something explode every class?" Professor Flitwick addressed the boy as he waved his wand to repair the broken glass and made sure that no one was hurt.

"See. He was doing the exact thing you were doing." Mina shrugged as she slowly got up on her knees.

"Was not!" Draco snapped as he dropped his bag to the ground and offered his hand out to Mina to help her up.

She took his hand in hers and allowed him to pull her to his feet.

"If you'd please put your pride aside you'd know I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm trying to help you." Mina said as she let go of his hand and allowed him to look into her eyes.

"My Pride," he hissed, "Listen, I never asked for your help."

"Fine next time I won't try and be nice to you and you can blow yourself up." Mina retorted as she grabbed up her glass and sat it upright on the table in front of her.

"Why would you want to be nice to me?" Draco asked suddenly as he turned to face her.

"Why should I be mean to you?" she questioned back.

Draco didn't reply he just starred at her.

Mina finally broke his gaze as she pointed her wand at the glass and slid her wand from left to right like she had shown him,

"Aguamenti." She said as her glass instantly filled up with water.

"Oh Well done Miss Smith!" Professor Flitwick clapped enthusiastically as the rest of the class turned to look at her.

Draco sighed sounding defeated and plopped back into his chair sitting his wand on the table and starring into space for the rest of the class leaving Mina alone with her thoughts.
