. "Sorry, but I told you if you didn't eat your breakfast than there is no park today," Darry reminded his youngest brother trying to keep his patients.
"Your mean! That's not fair!" Pony cries crossing his hands over his chest and stomping his feet.
Darry takes a breath to keep calm and collected. He had never realized how difficult kids could be seeing his parents made it seems so easy.
Darry walks over snatching his brother up before carrying the youngster to his bedroom. Darry didn't say a word as he set his brother on his bed and walked out of the room shutting the door behind him.
Darry walked into the living room falling into his recliner. He put his face In his hands trying to drown out his brothers cries. No matter how many times his brother has cried he never could harden his heart to it. Even when he knew brother was just throwing a fit and was completely fine. Darry has learned at times it's best to leave his brother alone and let him calm himself down. His brother hated being away from anyone else.
Darry started feeling better as he could hear his brothers fit start to subside. Darry would never let on how bad he hated his brothers cries. Darry had to remain the strong one.
After another minutes Darry heard his brothers door open and a minute later his brother was in his lap clinging to his Neck. Darry held his brother close rubbing the back of his head. The two brothers sit there together both getting the much needed comfort from one another.
"Darry can you read me a book?" Pony asks his eldest brother. Darry smiles at his brother giving him a nod. Pony quickly climbs down from his brother heading to his bedroom to find a book. Pony grabbed his newest favorite book called the Wonky Donkey.
Pony settled back into his brothers lap and enjoyed his book as his brother read it aloud. Pony giggled through out the book. Darry laughed along to more at his brothers entertainment then the story itself.
"I'm sorry for throwing a fit," Pony suddenly tells his brother after the book was finished. Pony really was sorry. He hated upsetting his brothers but sometimes he couldn't stop himself.
"I'm not mad no more. I love you no matter what. But bubba you have to try and remember we have to use our words. Also, I don't like taking away fun things but you know my expectations and you will have consequences if you don't follow them. " Darry reminds his brother.
"I just really wanted to play at the park today," Pony said sadly.
"I know you did kiddo but you sat at the kitchen table playing in your food making a mess. You were given the option to make the right choice and eat your breakfast or atleast part of it and then we would go to the park or you could continue to play around and then miss the park. And I'm very sorry your sad about not going. I really am but you made the choice not me," Darry explains to his brother.
Pony thought about what his brother said. "Next time I'm gonna make the better choice, " Pony declares hugging onto his brother.
"I know you will," Darry tells his. Pony is a smart and overall easy going kid. Sometimes he had to be reminded to make good choices, but he always learned quickly.
"Darry does that mean I can't go to the movies with Soda tonight?" Pony questions suddenly remembering his plans tonight.
"What do you think ?" Darry questions him.
"I thinks that I get to stay home," Pony tells Him.
"I think we will be watching space jam together," Darry tells him lessening the blow of having to stay home. The rule in place is that Pony don't get to go out if he throws fits or misbehaves at all. But the outings are only taken away for that day.
Pony's face lights up like a Christmas tree. "Really? Yay!" Pony exclaims excitedly. He loved movie times with his brother.
Before long Ponyboy goes to his room and gathers his bucket of army men carrying them to the front room. He loved his army men. He sat in the front room and spread them out falling into his own world with his action figures.
Darry gets amazed every time he sees his brother go off into his own world. The kid had a great imagination, and could play alone for hours as long as someone was close by.
Darry used this time to get chores done. He starts laundry before cleaning the kitchen, and bathroom. He would vacuum later or make Soda.
After he for chores done he started some macaroni with cut up hot dogs for lunch. It was one of his brothers favorites. It was 12:30 by time Darry had bowl of food and drinks sat on the table.
"Bub time to eat lunch," Darry calls to his brother. Pony sighs but stands up heading towards his brother in the kitchen.
"My blue men were about to shoot the green men for saying Batman was better than Superman," Pony tells Darry rolling his eyes.
"I guess I agree with the blue men. Superman is way better. " Darry tells him as he sits down. Pony nods. Instead of sitting in his seat Pony Climbs up into Darrys lap.
"It's easier to eat in your own seat. " Darry says as he rearranges his brother to make it easier to eat his own food.
"Nope," Pony says. Pony opens his mouth as Darry scoops a spoonful of food from his own bowel. Darry shakes his head, but gives his brother the bite of food meant for himself. Darry pulls Pony's bowl closer to them so he could eat.
As soon as Darry goes to take another and Pony opens his mouth yet again. Darry ate this bite.
"Boy your bowl and spoon are right there," Darry tells him gesturing to his brothers food. Pony shakes.
"Bite please," Pony says giggling. Pony has no shame in being babied. Darry rolls his eyes, but scoops some of Ponys food up feeding it to him.
"Do you know your kinda spoiled ?" Darry questions his brother as he gives him another bite. Pony nods with a smile. After a few more bites Pony decided to eat his own food.
After he was done eating Pony downed his milk before leaning into his brothers chest. "Darry can we go for a walk to the woods?" Pony asks.
"I suppose we can do that," Darry says scooping his brother into a hug before sitting him down and clearing the table.
Pretty quickly the brothers were off on there walk. "Look Darry a roree polly," Pony says picking it up from dirt. Pony stroked the thing as if it would enjoy being petted like a dog.
"Your a good boy Charlie! Darry see how nice Charlie is?" Pony questions lifting his hand up toward his brother face so he could get a better look.
"Yes! Charlie is very nice, but I think you should put him back so he can go back to his family," Darry tells him.
"There you go Charlie. Go back home but be really good. Make good choices," Pony tells him with with a smile setting him back on the ground.
Darry follows Pony as he heads back towards the woods. Pony's eyes light up as he reaches the woods where it's all sorts of colors. The fall colors cover the ground and trees. Pony lays down putting his hands under his head as he takes in the beauty of the trees.
Pony was probably more happy here than he would have been at the park anyway. At the park he would not have seen as many wonderful colors. He loved the brown, orange and red leaves that were all around him.
"Pony we have to head home. Why don't you pick out a leaf to take home to show Sodapop?" Darry suggest to his brother. Pony hops up and starts searching around. He looked at many leaves until he came across a old crinkly brown one.
"Look at this one. It's not the same colors as the others but it looks tuff ," Pony tells his brother showing off the odd leaf.
"That's a good choice , " Darry tells him acknowledging his choice. Pony lifts his arm up gesturing to his brother he wants to be held. Darry obliges and carries his brother home. The whole way home Pony rubs his hands over the leaf, and studies it closely as though he was memorizing every bit of it.
Once home Darry got Pony away from his leaf and distracted once again by his army men. He plays until Soda walks in. As soon as his brother is inside he rubs over giving him a hug and telling him all about Charlie and the leaves showing off his tuff leaf he brought home.
"Sounds like an exciting day. Are you ready for the movie?" Soda questions. Soda frowns when his brothers face falls.
"I can't. I made a bad choice. I didn't use words and I throwed a fit," pony tells Soda with a frown, but quickly changes to a small as he continues. "But I get to watch Sandlot with Darry," Pony finishes.
"Well I'm sorry you can't come but I know you and Superman will have fun together." Soda says kissing the top of his brothers head.
Pony gives Soda a kiss on the cheek before hugging him again. "Well I just came for the Rugrat, but I have to go meet the guys," Soda announces.
"Home by 1, " Darry tells Soda as he leaves. As soon as Soda was gone Darry sat out sandwiches and chips for Pony and himself. Pony eagerly devours his peanut-butter and jelly sandwich.
"Alright kiddo I need you to clean your toys up and meet me in the bathroom Darry tells his brother before heading to start his bath. Once his bath was started he added bubbles and went off to grab his brothers pajamas, and clean underwear.
By time Darry walked in the bathroom his brother was already inside getting undressed. "Alright little monster inside you go," Darry tells him lifting him inside the tub. Pony laughs as he goes straight for the bubbles placing some on his chin.
"Ho!Ho!Ho! I'm Santa clause ," he laughs amused with himself. Darry grabs a cup making quick of setting his brothers hair down. Once it was wet he grabbed his shampoo scrubbing the boys scalp gently massaging it the way Pony liked. When Darry was satisfied with his job he rinsed his brothers hair.
Pony stands up as Darry gets a wash rag and soap, and scrubs all the dirt of his little brother. Once he was clean Pony sat back in the tub going to playing with his bath boats.
Darry leaves the door open after scooping all the close from the hamper so he could start a load of laundry. Darry listens and periodically checks in on his brother as he does dinner clean up. After his kitchen was in order Darry goes back and let's the w we after from the tub before lifting his brother out wrapping him in a towel.
" Darry my boat crashed and almost went to the bottom the boat. Them pirates always causing trouble," Pony tells his as Darry quickly dries him off. Once his brother dry Darry hold out his under wear and Pony steps into them never missing a beat telling Darry about the pirates who stole all the leaves and rocks and crashed his boat.
"Alright Pony step in," Darry tells him. pony stepped into his feeted pajamas before putting each arm in the holes they belonged. Once he was inside Darry zipped him up.
Darry handed Pony his tooth brush so he could brush his teeth while Darry combed his hair. Pony loved the taste of his bubblegum tooth paste so he was always happy to brush his teeth.
"Alright Pony let's go watch out movie, " Darry says swooping his brother up. Darry quickly grabs one of Pony's blankets before sitting in the recliner with the remote pushing play on the movie as pony snuggled up against him watching the movie.
Darry would never tell Pony this but Juat looked so young in his footed pajamas and his blanket. It didn't help that Pony is super tiny. Being barely five he still wears young toddler clothes.
That night when Soda came in he smiled at the site of both his brothers passed out in the recliner. Pony on his stomach stretched out over Darry with a grip on his eldest brothers shirt and a hand against Darrys head.
