Chapter 1 Part 7 - Monika

I begin to cry.

I'll never see any of my friends ever again.

I'll never see any of my family ever again.

I'm bawling now. I peek up. Through my teary eyes I can make out both Sayori and Monika, attempting to comfort me.

"Xavier, what's wrong?" Sayori is obviously concerned.

I'll never see anyone I've known ever again. Twenty-four years, all for nothing. Now I'm just stuck in this goddamn game! Why? Why me?

The surface of the desk under my head is moist with my tears. Monika's shooed off Sayori and is comforting me alone.

"Okay everyone!" She says seemingly unfazed. "I want you all to write a poem and present it here tomorrow!"

"Come on!" I hear an angry Natsuki.

"The meeting's over! Start cleaning up!" Monika clearly wants to calm me down. She approaches me.

"Come with me, Xavier." Monika whispers into my ear. She grabs my arm and escorts me out of the schoolhouse. Surprisingly Sayori does not object. As soon as we're out, I begin to calm down.

"Xavier…" Monika is speechless. There's nothing she can say.

"Let's go to my place. We'll talk there."

Monika's house? There's no cutscene or backdrop with Monika's house. I wonder what it looks like. The thought makes me forget about my current condition for a second.

About twenty minutes later, we're at Monika's house. It looks a lot like mine back in my… Reality, I guess.

"Here we are!"

I don't look back up until we make it to her room. I lift my tear-ridden face from my hands to an average-size room that looks like just about any other teenage girls' room.

"Xavier, I can trust you, right? I have to change out of my uniform, so don't look." Monika sounds genuine, so I don't think about trying my luck and bury my head in one of her pillows.

Smells like lavender...

"Okay. You're good!" I slowly turn around. The girl before me now wears a white tank top and a pair of skinny jeans.

"How do I look?" Monika says without hesitation.

I don't answer, half because I'll say something stupid, half because I'm trapped in a video game and losing my mind.

"Listen, Monika…" I start. "Are you sure you're not involved in my getting trapped here?"

Monika is slightly offended by the inquiry. "N… No! Why would I do that to you?"

"Wait… After thinking about it, that does seem like something I would do, doesn't it…"

"But! I didn't do it!" Monika says desperately.

"Okay, okay. I believe you." I start. "But if you didn't do it…" An idea pops into my head.

"Monika, what were you doing the night that this all happened?"
