Loud House: Flash!
11th Flash: What's In a Name?
"Guys, she's back!"
Lori and Lynn grinned as Lincoln made his report from his seat at the front window and, almost as soon as he was finished the front door opened and Luan, all smiles, walked into the house.
"So," Lori leaned in, her phone forgotten on the coffee table, "literally how'd it go, Luan?"
"Did'ja slap him, Sis?"
Lincoln was about to say something, but Luan cut him off as she happily plopped down on the chair, her ponytail swaying as she got comfortable. "Nah," she smiled and looked at her siblings, "actually, it went pretty good! Way better than I'd expected, actually."
"See?" Lincoln leaned back, proud of himself. "I told you-"
"Hold your horses there, Linc," Luan smirked at her little brother then, "it went great, but only after the dork stopped his, ahem, 'suave ladies man' shtick." Lincoln blushed slightly in embarrassment as he imagined how that must have gone over for his friend. "Seriously, I about laughed in his face after the first ten minutes!"
Lynn considered this. "So… it went well how then?"
"Getting there, dear sister of mine," Luan kicked her shoes off and relaxed a bit before speaking again. "After the first ten minutes, I think he got the hint it wasn't working and, after that, he started to relax. Next thing I knew it actually got really fun! We shopped around, ate lunch, saw a movie, had a snack and then he walked me back here to the end of our street. Oh!" she flipped over and rested her head on her arms as she looked at her family. "And guess what he did?"
Lori's mouth slowly drifted open. "OMGosh, Luan, please tell me it was something literally above the shirt-"
"Lori!" Luan's face was blazing red at the implications. After a moment to calm down over her sister's remark, she smiled warmly. "He helped me with some new jokes, and-" her siblings leaned in closer, "-he also laughed at the ones I told him."
"What's new? We laugh-"
Luan didn't glare, but her stare she held them with was pretty pointed. "You wanna finish that with April Fools around the corner, Lynn?"
"-sometimes," Lynn squeaked out. Then, "When we're not groaning, because really, Sis, you-"
"Literally digging graves," Lori smacked Lynn to get her to stop before she said something worse.
"And not only did he help me with and laugh at my jokes, actually laughed at them, mind you," she continued as she kicked her feet in the air. "But he also paid for the entire date! Seriously? I have to admit I was impressed."
But Lincoln had to ask, "So, if it went well, are you and Rusty gonna go out again?"
Everyone waited for Luan's reply, and when she gave it the smiles were practically contagious. "Yeah! We were thinking about the weekend after next!"
While Lincoln congratulated his sister and thought out loud about calling Rusty, he caught a look that both Lori and Lynn flashed one another.
Something was up.
"So," Lori took the lead as Luan sighed happily where she sprawled. "Seeing as you're like, practically a couple now…"
Lynn swung her foot behind the couch, doing her best to hide the evil little grin that crossed her face as she said, "Looks like we'll need a couples' name for ya."
"A what?" Luan asked, not listening until that moment.
"You know," Lori's smile grew impossibly wider as she continued, "a couples name."
Lynn gave an example. "Like Bennifer."
"Or Brangelina," Lori remarked offhandedly. "Or Jelena, Kimye, or even Taylor Squared."
"Huh," Luan was obviously thinking now.
But Lori continued. "You know, like mine and Bobby's name is Lobo!"
"Well," Lynn poked, "you two do go at it like dogs in heat-"
"Lynn!" Lori scolded and smacked her little sister for the ribald comment.
"Couples names… hmm," but Luan didn't hear them. Instead, after a moment she curled her lip, "Ruan, maybe?"
"Are you a mystery solving great dane?" Lynn snorted.
Luan growled. "Well, what would you come up with?"
Lincoln saw it. This was what they were waiting for.
And in unison, Lynn and Lori sang, "Let's call you two Lusty!"
Luan's face was so red with embarrassment, the poor girl spluttering a response, that Lincoln almost thought she'd faint then and there as her sisters giggled and laughed at her reaction.
Then, she went calm.
And after a moment to collect herself even further, she stated flatly, "Well, that date was good while it lasted, and now we're breaking up."
Lincoln got to his feet and hurried after Luan in a panic. "W-wait, Sis! You can't do that, it'd break Rusty's heart!"
And despite trying hard not to laugh, her sisters followed behind doing their best to dissuade her, too.
