My Little Pony: Sleeping Giant

Chapter 12: War Wife

It may sound rather demeaning, but for me I wear it proudly with no regrets to being married to Grayling. As we have victory on the first day, I look into the eyes of these brave soldiers of both the griffon and the pony. Like the brave defense in Chefal at the village of Pont De Dauphin, the cracks are starting to show in Equestria's force with every defeat

You kill a pony, their family will weep for their loss of a son or a daughter. You kill a Tulparian pony, and nopony will weep. Our pony kind has always been a segregated minority among the ponies. I thought in joining the Royal Army that I will find acceptance. I was wrong as were many of my Tulparian brothers and sisters. Then a rumor began to spread

The rumor was that the Griffon Kingdom was offering sanctuary to Tulparian ponies that wish to defect northward. I first saw action in Orel at the Laşın Desert. Because I didn't kill anypony on my first tour, I was labeled a coward by my unit. Nopony was sad to see me go when I got reassigned to a new unit in the Griffon Kingdom. Now was my chance.

It was under the cover of a night in the forest that I sneaked away from my unit, "Hey you! Get back here!" yelled a sentry guard-pony as he spotted me. I galloped as fast as I could through the forest as bullets whizzed around my mane. My helmet bounced off my head, and I relieved myself of my pack to move faster while keeping my Springfield rifle

I hid behind a boulder, and caught my breath with heavy breathing as I noticed another trail across a wide chasm. I had determination in my brown eyes at my only option. Little did I know that this is how I met the griffon that would be my husband. I galloped as fast as I can toward the edge of the trail. The chasm is the only thing in my way to freedom

'Here we go' I thought

I leaped off the edge, and I dived forward. I made a midair body rotation when, to my surprise, a griffon caught me in midair. It was a soldier, a good looking one. He was half lynx, and half golden saker. I didn't know if he spoke English, or not. Yet I remember my first words to him when he caught me. My eyes were as warm as my smile "Nice catch,"

I could feel the wind in my fur, and in my mane and tail as he held me in his talons. His grip was firm, but he did not hurt me. He glided along the night sky on his falcon wings. I heard the wings of pegasi behind us. I climbed on his back as I readied his rifle, and picked off two from the sky. One fell into the river, and another was draped over a trail edge

"She got away" said a pony

"It doesn't matter" said his comrade

"Why's that?" asked the pony

"She's a traitor now" said the stallion

"What'll we do?" the pony asked

"She's a Tulparian, kill her" he replied

He seemed to understand me, "Danke" said the griffon, and flew down toward the trail. He gently put me back on my hooves, "are you alright? Let me see if you are wounded" he requested, I nodded, and he looked me over quickly. I can tell this soldier-griffon is an officer by the ranks on his shoulders "I am glad you are not hurt, my name is Grayling"

"I'm Keen Eye, thank you for saving me" I said with gratitude toward the griffon. His English is thickened by his teutonic accent. He grinned, and he ruffled the top of my mane. I giggled back, and he led me to a camp on the other side of the chasm. There was a squad of soldier-griffons around a bonfire. I expected them to this as I was met at gunpoint

"-Stand down-"

"-She is a Tulparianer, she is not the enemy-" said Grayling speaking the Griffon Kingdom language. From then on, my bond formed with him. I fought alongside him on surprise attacks against Equestrian soldiers. From every battle I fought alongside him in, my bond grew stronger until one day, in a field of golden wheat, we made love for the first time.

It has been a year since that day, and my bond with him is stronger than ever. He must have heard me dive into a lake, or asked where I was on the special day. It was Grayling that down on one knee as I emerged from the water. How could I say no to him when he asked me to marry him? Of course I said yes, and it began my habit of pouncing on him

My flanks wiggled as I hugged him, and I kissed him as he held me in his talons. We had our ceremony in Griffonstone among the griffon-soldiers that made an arch of crossed rifles with fixed bayonets. The rifles when back to their sides as we crossed under them. My Tulparian mare sisters-in-arms were the bridesmaids as I was carried down the aisle.

Now in Singvogel, I still wear my uniform as I would in the Royal Army. Yet it is not the standard uniform of a pony-soldier. We Tulparians were given the old M1917A1 helmets instead of the M1 helmets. Now we wear them to remind our enemy of the price for ridiculing us "It has been a year, a year to this day that we have been married" said Grayling

"I'm your Keen Eye, Grayling" I said to him, giving him a smile as I walked up to him in the trenches. I gave him a warm and meaningful kiss to an 'awww' chorus from Glenda and Gabby, "and I'll always be your 'Sugar Flanks'," I whispered into his ear, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. I looked back at him, and smiled as I went to check on the others
