Hirari didn't wake up for several hours, stirring the next morning. She let out a soft groan as her eyes slowly opened, her sleep disturbed by the sunlight that was entering from the big window on her left. Slowly sitting up, the girl's stomach rumbled loudly when her nose caught a scent; she glanced to her right, where the bedside table without a lamp was: on it, a full breakfast.
Hirari's eyes widened a bit as she stood half frozen, looking at the warm croissant, the two cups with tea and hot chocolate, a couple of glasses with different kind of juices in them, a few colourful jams in small glass bowls, soft, yellow butter in its own plate, freshly baked bread and slices of ham and cheese. She had to pinch her thigh lightly to make sure that that hotel-like meal was actually there, and that she wasn't still in the dream realm.
She licked her lips as she neared it, yet just as she was about to grab the fork, she stopped herself with a frown.
She was currently a prisoner, kidnapped for her powers. Nobody had come yet to see if she would cooperate with them, which went without saying that she wouldn't have anyway. What if there was some special drug inside the meal that would make her obedient to them?
Hirari groaned once more, trying to ignore her grumbling stomach to focus on what she had learnt from Yanagi about controlling people. She recalled one time, when Akaya had accidentally possessed Ann, that he had spent a whole hour explaining to them what had happened and how to prevent it.
True, Akaya was a Demon, so his control on people was a different matter… No, that wasn't the answer that she was looking for.
She tried to remember when he had talked about that childhood friend of his, Inui from Seigaku, who'd often prepare awful tasting drinks as punishments for the members… But then again, it wasn't meant to control them.
When absolutely nothing came to her mind aside from spells, she decided that it was probably safe to try and eat that food; if anyone had used drugs to force people to work with them, Yanagi or Yukimura, somebody would have surely warned her and the other trainees about it.
Though, she thought, if she started to feel odd or something in the taste of that breakfast was weird, she would stop at once.
With a light nod to herself, she took the knife and cut the bread in two, quickly putting the ham and the cheese slices inside and making herself a sandwich. With her breath held, she took a tiny bite, careful of its flavour.
Yet when nothing seemed out of place, she dared to gulp it down. She then ate half of it before stopping for a little bit, trying to understand whether she was feeling different.
When absolutely nothing happened, it was with a relieved sigh that she started to literally devour the whole meal; she had not realised just how hungry she had been. But then again, judging from the time it seemed like she had skipped a few meals anyway.
Once done, she let out a very satisfied sigh - she didn't eat that kind of breakfast every day, after all. Since there was nothing better to do, she sat up, thinking of getting a book, when she noticed a small door to the right of her bed that she didn't see earlier. Curious, she tried to open it, expecting it to be locked just like the other one.
It was with great surprise that the doorknob turned, and her heart started to race at once as she sneaked past it as quietly as she could, leaving her room behind.
Yet when she saw where she had ended, she couldn't help but feel a slight disappointment: that was just a bathroom, with no windows or any other possible exits.
Well, at least I won't have to ask for permission to pee, she thought bitterly, heading back and closing the door with a huff. She headed to the shelves once again, when suddenly the main door was unlocked.
Hirari froze on the spot, her eyes glued on the wood as it was slowly opened. To be honest, she was expecting that white-haired guy of before to enter… Ootori, was it?
Well, at least the hair colour had been similar, her mind registered as the person entered, smirking down at her.
All colour drained from her face and she couldn't prevent herself from stepping back once when she recognized him.
It was her kidnapper.
"Enjoyed your breakfast, Scanner?" he asked, stepping inside, that arrogant smirk never leaving his lips. "Ore-sama bets that you never experienced such delicious taste with Yukimura, ahn~."
Hirari's eyebrow twitched. She was currently feeling mixed emotions: fear of that man, a Vampire against whom she knew she had no chance to resist if he had tried something; nervousness that he himself had shown up, and not Ootori or some other Human; uncertainty of what he wanted to do, if only speak or… feed on her again, and at this thought she couldn't prevent a shiver to run through her body; uneasiness because once more, he had proven that he knew what she was; and last but not least, a sting of annoyance when he subtly insulted her protector.
Of course, being a Vampire he could hear the unnatural fast beating of her heart; when she didn't answer, his smirk widened.
"Nani, are you awed by Ore-sama's charms already?" he asked arrogantly, flipping his hair.
At this, Hirari scoffed before she could stop herself. "As if. Like I'd fall for the first guy that passes by. Ah no, right, you're not just a guy, you are a kidnapper and a bastard at that."
She then tensed the moment the words left her lips, and she looked at him, wary and scared of his reaction: she had just insulted a very, very powerful Vampire, after all.
Although, rather than angered he seemed amused.
"A feisty one, ahn? Ore-sama will enjoy breaking you." He chuckled darkly, the sound causing her to shudder in uneasiness.
She took a deep breath to try and calm herself. "What do you want? … How did you know where to find me? How do you know what I am?" she asked without a pause.
He simply smirked at her, and took a step closer, at which she reacted by backing away again.
"Don't you dare come any closer!" she warned him.
"Or what~?" he taunted. "It's not like your power can harm me… Nor can you, my dear little Scanner~."
She twitched lightly in annoyance again. "Don't call me like that! I've got a name, you know!"
"Ore-sama doesn't care." He waved a hand in dismissal. "As for what he wants… Well," he chuckled lightly, "you don't look too stupid, so you should know already. You are going to serve us from now on."
His tone was one of who was used to and expected to be blindly followed, but the girl knew better.
"I will never help the likes of you." She hissed, feeling a braveness that she didn't know she possessed, even though she was still tense and alert of him. She knew pretty well that Vampires were unpredictable, after all.
The man's eyes glinted and he resumed approaching her on the carpeted floor.
"Gutsy girl." He commented with an amused smirk before cornering her.
Hirari let out a light surprised yelp when she suddenly felt the hard coldness of the wall against her back. She gulped lightly as she looked up at the Vampire, who was now grinning widely, obviously enjoying to have cornered his prey.
The girl suddenly pushed against his chest hard to make him back away, but not only he didn't budge, he even grabbed her wrists with his hands in an iron grip before she could withdraw.
Hirari gasped lightly at his speed and started to struggle to free them, yet in vain as he pinned them beside her head against the wall.
She froze for the third time that morning when he started to lean down to her. She looked at him with wide eyes, her heart thumping wildly in her chest, her legs slightly trembling in fear.
"Ore-sama has his methods to make you cooperate… You do not have a choice." He chuckled deeply in her ear, causing her to shudder once more.
Just as it seemed that he was slowly withdrawing from her, she felt a deep pain at her neck, at which she couldn't suppress a scream.
Hirari felt how the Vampire's fangs dug deeply in her skin, letting her precious blood flow out of the flesh freely.
She resumed struggling wildly even before she could hear him drink hungrily, but he pinned her legs to the wall as well with his own, so that he successfully stopped her from moving much.
The more sips he took, the weaker Hirari felt, and the paler and colder her body became.
At a certain point her legs just gave away, unable to sustain her weight anymore, and she would have fallen down had he not pinned her hard, keeping her in place.
"Yame…ro…" was all she managed to say before once again losing suddenly consciousness, depraved of her life fluids.
