Aang paced around in his room muttering angrily to himself. He didn't know who he was the most furious at, Zuko, his past lives, Sokka, Katara or himself. His tattoos started to glow as his anger reached its peak. Noticing this he took deep breaths to talk himself out of going into the avatar state.

"I'm not gonna wreck havoc in their home."

Aang walked out of his room closing the door behind him. He walked to a window and peeked outside to see if anyone was out there. He then looked behind him to check if all the doors were closed. Seeing that the coast was clear, Aang opened the window, climbed on to the window sill and floated down.

"Hey Aang," Katara greeted.

"Hey Katara," Aang replied.

He made his way to the pond and slumped onto his knees. Katara sat next to him. Aang turned away from her, his body slumped over in despair and defeat.

"You're still hung up about Ozai?" Katara guessed.

"Yes I am."

"And now Zuko's starting to attack isn't he?"

"Now do you see why I didn't want to kill Ozai? What happened last night was just the beginning. Zuko's gonna hate me for life and I deserve it. Now another war is gonna be waged by the fire nation."

Katara rolled her wrist at the exaggeration. "I don't know about another war being waged."

"Isn't the whole point of defeating the firelord is to restore balance?"

"Yes."

"Avatar Roku and Firelord Sozin were best friends before the war and enemies when the war started and Roku died. The same could happen to me and Zuko."

"You're being too hard on yourself."

"How can I not be too hard on myself? I have no excuses this time. If I didn't have control of the avatar state then it would be easy, but I went into training with Guru Pathik to master the avatar state. I've unlocked my earth and cosmic chakra so none of them are locked or blocked and yet, I couldn't stop myself from delivering the killing blow that wedged in between both my and Zuko's friendship."

"I'm sure Zuko's gonna forgive you."

"Like I said before doing nothing is easy but forgiving is hard. And considering how much of a hothead he is and his fiery temper Zuko isn't going to be friendly towards me for a while. I'm leaving tomorrow bright and early so we can have some space."

"I'm pretty sure we can work something out."

"Me and Zuko have too much bad blood between us to stay in one place together. And I'm pretty sure you guys aren't going to be able to separate us."

"I'll accept it but your going to have to work this out with Zuko. I know things are tense but please don't end your friendship over this."

Aang shook his head at Katara. "This is more on Zuko's end than mine's. I'm not gonna end our friendship and I want us to be on good terms again but he's going to have to make the first move."

Katara raised an eyebrow. "Why's that?"

"Besides me acting like an airbender if I be too pushy we're going to be bitter enemies before we enter our twenties. And if I make the first move he's going to move the other way regardless. The world can't be at peace if both of us are not balanced."

"So you're still acting like an airbender then," Katara deadpanned.

"How about I'm practicing neutral jing instead?"

Katara shook her head as she let out a sigh. "I just hope you know what you're doing."

"I'm just waiting for Zuko to calm down. Though I have to admit that if I was in his position I wouldn't forgive me either."

Katara covered her mouth with her hands as she tried her best not to cry. "You're going to say goodbye right?"

"Yes I am but it's not like it's going to be permanent. I'm just giving Zuko some space." He tilted his head down a bit. "I just wish there was a way to gain his forgiveness and most of all heal his heart."

As soon as Aang hugged Katara a few tears slipped down her cheeks but she stifled a sob so she wouldn't worry him. Aang gently wiped them away and gave her a reassuring smile.

"I'll be fine Katara."

"Just be safe okay?"

Aang rolled his eyes jokingly. "Alright mom."

Katara gave Aang a sad smile then walked back in the palace. She nearly walked past Zuko's room and peeked inside. Zuko was looking at a family picture with a look of nostalgia. Katara gently rapped on the door startling Zuko as he scrambled and stumbled to hide his belongings.

"Who is it?" Zuko asked a bit frantically.

"It's Katara, can we talk?"

The water bender entered as soon as Zuko opened the door.

"Before you ask it's going to be difficult to forgive Aang and I don't know what it's gonna take for me to stop being angry."

"I'll accept that but is there any way for him to redeem himself?"

Zuko made his way over to his bed and sat down with Katara following after. "His head is nearly chopped off his body so reviving him is out of the question."

Katara made a face for a second before refocusing her attention to the problem. "What do you want him to do?"

Zuko gripped his hair between his fingers. "I don't know what I want and even if I did it's an impossible task."

"Do you want closure?"

"How can I gain it when he's the one who killed dad? At least the man who killed your mother wasn't your friend. I know he was the worst father ever but at least he wasn't going to die soon. Uncle is sixty-five years old he doesn't have that many years left."

Katara's eyes widen as Zuko started to shed tears. The firebender lowered his head as he shook trying his best to stifle his sobs. Katara wrapped her arms around the firebender and gently squeezed him.

"I know that I'm not suppose to be taking my anger out on him but it's not an easy task. I hate feeling this way towards him but I just can't help it. And the worst part is that I have no one but myself to blame."

"I don't think you should blame yourself since we all said that killing Ozai was the only way to bring peace." Katara released Zuko and put her hands on his shoulders. "Me, Sokka, and Toph are leaving tomorrow bright and early with Aang so the both of you can have some space. Trust me, I know that it's difficult to forgive someone who murdered your loved ones in cold blood. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't really blame you for being mean to Aang since you don't have anyone else but your uncle and he's getting up there." Katara stood up. "We'll come back later on tomorrow without Aang to check up on you."

"Okay, thanks Katara. Goodnight."

Katara went to the doorway. "Goodnight." She flicked the light off and closed the door behind her.
