Aang opened his eyes and hovered over to the rock where Ozai lied. He clenched his hands locking Ozai's hands and feet. The avatar roared as he threw his arm down sending the elements to the ground as fast as a bullet. Aang shot up in the sleeping bag before he could complete his dream. He panted in fear and looked around. It was still dark outside with the moon's soft glow illuminating the temple. Katara and Sokka were sleeping in their sleeping bags in a corner while Toph had earthbended a tent for her to sleep in.

Aang stood up and moved out of the temple. Katara and Toph sat up at the same time. Katara looked at Toph as she came out of her earth tent.

"This is the third time he has woken up in the middle of the night because of a nightmare," Toph noted.

"I know," Katara mumbled. "I think I need to talk to him."

Aang meditated to call his past lives but he instead recalled the last time he was in the avatar state.

You're weak! Just like the rest of your people! They didn't deserve to live in this world! In my world! Prepare to join them! Prepare to die!

The rock gradually started to get hot as Ozai blasted fire at his rock shield. Sweat started dripping all over his body as he slowly started to loosen his tight formation. Finally he was flown backwards into a rock which jabbed him right in his spine where his lightning scar was. The rocks collapsed over him as he recalled all the other times he had entered the avatar state then something in him snapped.

"Aang?" a voice called.

Aang snapped his eyes open breaking him out of his thoughts. He turned to the sound of the voice. "Yeah Katara?"

"It's too late to be out right now. What are you doing anyway?"

"I've been trying to contact my past lives but they keep on giving me visions of me killing Ozai. It's been three days and I'm starting to worry."

Aang stood up and faced Katara.

"How long will it take for you to talk to Zuko?"

"I don't know Katara." Aang faced the other way. "I'm too ashamed of myself to face him. Even if I was in a good mood I'd doubt the Fire Nation would be happy to see me." He looked at the sky. "The best thing I can do is to find his mother but I don't have any leads to lead me to her." Aang put his hands over his face in despair.

"Think about it this way. What is it that he actually wants from you?"

"That's the problem. The tasks that he wants from me are not ment for me to achieve. But I have to admit that finding his mother is a slightly easier task than reviving his father." Aang closed his eyes and pushed his fists together to meditate. "I'll be back Katara." His eyes and tattoos glowed as he crossed over to the spirit world to pay Roku an unpleasant visit.

Aang opened his eyes and looked at the glowing blue dragon flying overhead. The dragon landed in front of him then squatted so he could climb on. Aang looked around for the avatar before him but he was nowhere to be found. Fang flew over to where his battle took place. Aang cringed as he saw himself in the avatar state his eyes as cold as ice as he glowered at the helpless Firelord on the ground.

"Aang," Roku's voice sounded.

"I hate to say this but I need your guidance Avatar Roku."

"I can see that."

"Is there a reason why you forced me to kill Zuko's father against my will? Why couldn't I talk myself out of the avatar state? How am I suppose to find his mother?"

Fang landed on a pillar then turned his head towards Aang who was in the avatar state. He stuck his whiskers in both the memory and real Aang. Aang saw all of his past lives glaring through him.

You're weak! Just like the rest of your people! They didn't deserve to live in this world! In my world! Prepare to join them! Prepare to die!

All of the past avatars, especially the air nomads, felt Aang's pain, fear, and rage.

We'll show him who's weak! All of the past avatars forced their eyes to glow and pushed their energy throughout his body as soon as Aang bashed his back against a rock that had formed from Ozai's firebending.

Aang stumbled backwards and held his head as he tried to regain his consciousness. "So you guys were feeding off of my subconscious? That's why I couldn't break myself away from the avatar state?"

He looked up and saw Roku who nodded. He bowed his head as shame consumed him once more. Looks like there was only one option left. "Is there any way to find Zuko's mother? I don't have any leads."

The avatar before him shook his head and disappeared.

Aang's white glowing eyes returned to their usual grey.

"I am so ashamed and disappointed in myself."

"You okay Aang?" Katara asked. "What did you find out?"

"No, I'm not okay. I thought the answer was going to help me but it only made things worse. They made me kill Ozai against my will." Aang stood up and started to pace. "Finding Zuko's mother is the only way to give him some closure but not even Roku knows where she is." He stopped pacing. "I know this is going to be a bad idea but I'm taking Zuko with me to help him find her."

"But you two have too much bad blood between you."

"I know and I'm still too ashamed of myself to face him but maybe him seeing her face will help ease the tension between us."

"I'm coming with you."

"I'd rather do this by myself this time. He has a bone to pick with me not you guys. I feel like this is the only way to redeem myself to him." He then grimaced in realization. "Looks like I'm going to have to face the music that I've been trying to avoid for a while now."

The airbender rolled up a note and tied it to Momo's midsection. "Go straight to Zuko, okay Momo."

The flying lemur chattered before taking off into the sky. Aang felt his stomach drop as the lemur moved farther away from him.

"What did I just do?"

"Trying to stop another war from starting is what you're trying to do Twinkle Toes," Toph explained.

"Good luck buddy is all I can say," Sokka said, patting the air nomad's back.

Aang winced in pain then slapped his hand away. "Thanks for the encouragement Sokka," he snarked.

"Oh sorry, I kind of forgot about the scar on your back."

Aang shook his head in annoyance. "See you guys after I do some unfinished business." He opened his glider and took off into the sky.
