Aaron was in his office when she came in. "Office. Now!" He called out loudly when he heard her come in
Lorelai sighed he knew. She went. "I can explain."
Aaron crossed his arms and looked up at her waiting.
"She made Penny cry. I tried to just talk. Okay maybe yell. But she pushed me and… Yes I slapped her." Lorelai said
Aaron shook his head. "Do you realize how childish it was?"
Lorelai looked down. "Yes sir."
"How much did you drink? I seriously hope not much as you drove home." He said
"None. I have pain killers in my system. That and alcohol don't tend to mix well." She told him
Aaron nodded. "So, you weren't intoxicated and still slapped her?"
"Dad. She pushed me first. I almost fell. I'm already in pain, and it hurt. I reacted. Badly I know. I apologized to Emily for the drama. I will apologize to Rebecca." Lorelai said almost in tears.
"How bad is the pain currently?" He asked
"A nine.." She said
"When was the last time you took a pill?" He asked
Lorelai looked at her watch. "Six hours."
"Do you want another one?" He asked
Lorelai nodded and went and took one. Before sitting on the couch.
Aaron sat with her.
"Is Derek pissed at me too?" She asked.
"He's not the one who told me. Rebecca texted me." He said
"So, you really didn't know what happened when I came in?" Lorelai asked
"Well, I figured there was more to the story than and I quote. 'Your bitch daughter slapped me in the face.' I wanted to hear your side of the story" He told her
"Wow. Good to know how she really feels about me." Lorelai said
"Lorelai she's drunk."
"Yeah, drunk words sober thoughts." Lorelai said, "So am I in trouble?"
"I'm disappointed with the way you choose to handle that situation. You are better than that." He told her.
Lorelai sighed and nodded. "Yes sir."
"But you know you made a mistake, and you are going to rectify it on your own without having to be told so I don't think punishing you is necessary." He told her
She nodded again.
"You do anything like this again though you will be in big trouble." He told her
"Yes dad. I understand." She told him
Aaron nodded and kissed her head before going off
Lorelai went and made herself tea before heading to bed.
She woke up the next morning to a text from Derek. 'I know what happened last night. Penny told me everything that she saw but I still want to talk to you. Text me when you are up so we can arrange to meet to talk.'
Lorelai sighed and texted back. 'I'm awake. Did you want to come here to talk?'
Derek was drinking his coffee waiting for either the text or Rebecca to wake up. He saw the text. 'Sure. I will be over in a bit. I will text you when I'm on my way.' He told her
Lorelai got up and went downstairs and got herself some coffee and sat on the couch. She replayed everything from the night before in her head. She knew she didn't react well to the situation. She felt guilty for her role in the fight but at the same time Rebecca had made Penny cry. She wondered if Derek knew about that part.
Aaron came and sat down with her with his own coffee. "Morning."
"Morning." She replied as she sipped her coffee
They were quiet after awhile Lorelai looked up at him. "Derek is coming by at some point to talk about what happened last night." She told him
Aaron nodded. "Okay."
Before long the other two had woken up and Aaron went to make everyone breakfast.
Rebecca woke up about an hour later and went and got herself some coffee before trying to head back to her room.
"You can't hide for ever Rebecca." Derek said in a very stern tone of voice
Rebecca rolled her eyes but continued to her room closing the door behind her.
Derek gave her half an hour before he went and knocked on her door.
"Busy." Rebecca said
"You have ten minutes to finish whatever you are doing and come to the living room." He told her before he went and sat on the couch and waited. He started to replay what had happened the night before when JJ had brought Rebecca home
*flashback*
Derek was finishing up cleaning the kitchen when there was a buzz up to his apartment. He pushed the intercom. "Yes?"
"Derek its JJ. I have Rebecca here. She's drunk." JJ said
Derek sighed and let them in. When JJ got up to the apartment Derek helped her get Rebecca to her bed and laid her on her side he noticed a red mark on her face that looked like she had been slapped. He went out to the living room with JJ.
"What the hell happened JJ?" Derek asked
"I'm not sure how she ended up drunk. I didn't see her have more than maybe two glasses of wine. But she got drunk. We noticed her go outside at one point and Penny went to talk to her and after a few minutes came back inside in tears. She wouldn't tell us exactly what happened, but Lorelai was pissed and went outside to confront Rebecca. Penny followed. An argument ensued and what I saw after coming out mid argument was Rebecca saying she was going to leave and started to stumble. That's when we all realized she was drunk. Lorelai grabbed her to keep her from falling over, Rebecca didn't take well to that and pushed Lorelai away. I think causing some pain to her already sore shoulder and Lorelai reacted and slapped Rebecca across the face and because Rebecca was not steady on her feet she fell on her ass. Emily pulled Lorelai into the house to keep it from getting worse. I helped Rebecca up and decided to just bring her home." JJ told him.
Derek sighed.
"We should have kept a closer eye on her drinking, but I didn't think it was an issue." JJ said
"Was Lorelai drinking too?" Derek asked
"No. She was offered but she's been taking the pain killers she was prescribed and knew it wouldn't be a good idea to mix alcohol with that." JJ said
Derek nodded. "Okay so she's in a lot of pain and Rebecca added to that."
"Possibly. Penny obviously has more information that I do but that's what I know." JJ told him
"Thanks JJ." He said
JJ nodded. "Again. I'm sorry I didn't keep a closer eye on her drinking."
"Not your fault JJ. She's supposed to be an adult." Derek told her
The two said goodbye and JJ left.
Derek called Penny
"Hey Der." She answered
"Baby girl what happened tonight?" Her asked
"Didn't JJ tell you?" Penny asked
"She told me what she saw but she is missing pieces. What did Rebecca say to you that made you cry?" He asked
Penny sighed. "We all noticed Rebecca go outside and I went out after her and caught her smoking pot. I took the joint away and tried to talk to her. She said some things that kind of upset me."
"What exactly did she say?" Derek asked
"Why does it matter?" Penny asked
"Penelope because I asked you to tell me." Derek said
Penny sighed. "I asked her if she thought we wouldn't notice her go outside, she told me she hoped we would just ignore it, I told her I understood the excitement that comes from being bad but that sometimes we can push things to far. She asked me why I cared, and I told her because I care about her she accused me of pretending to care about her that I actually didn't want her around and the only reason I act like I care about her is to not piss you off. Which is so far from the truth it broke my heart a bit." Penny told him
"Baby girl I know that's not true I know you care about her." Derek told her
Penny sighed a bit.
"When Lorelai saw you were upset and went outside to confront Rebecca you followed. What happened between the time you two got out there and JJ came out?" Derek asked
"Lorelai asked her what she said to me. I could see how angry she was, so I tried to calm things down telling Lorelai it was okay kind of trying to get her to calm down. She was pissed… Rebecca accused Lorelai of picking me over Rebecca." Penny said. "Lorelai told her basically that just because Rebecca was practically her sister that she wasn't going to let her talk shit to me or any of her family when she's included in our girls nights and such." Penny finished
Derek listened. "Baby girl are you okay?" He asked when she was done
"No. But I will be." She said
"Do you want me to come over?" Derek asked
"No. You need to stay there with Rebecca. I'll be fine." She said
"Well. Why don't you come here?" He suggested
"No. I have drank a bit since being home and cant drive." Penny told him
"I love you baby girl." Derek told her
"I love you too." Penny replied
They hung up.
*end flashback*
Derek had the whole story.
Rebecca came out of her room fully dressed like she was ready to go out.
"Where do you think you're going?" Derek asked her
"I have plans. I'll be back in an hour." Rebecca said
"You are sadly mistaken if you think you are going anywhere. You are still technically grounded. I only let you go last night because I thought there was no way you could get into any trouble. Clearly I was wrong." Derek told her
Rebecca rolled her eyes and headed towards the door. Derek got up and quickly went and stopped her. He picked her up and slung her over his shoulder and smacked her butt hard. "I know what happened last night. That you got drunk, smoked weed, treated Penny badly and pushed Lorelai when she was trying to help you not fall on your face. If you seriously think that you would be allowed to go out after that you are in for a world of disappointment." He told her. He set her down on the couch.
"I suggest you get your coat off and get comfortable." He told her
Rebecca rolled her eyes and crossed her arms ignoring his suggestion.
Derek took a breathe to calm himself down.
"What the hell were you thinking? You have been given permission to drink at home and at other homes if you are offered. But only if you drink moderately. And getting drunk is not in moderation. You got caught smoking weed. Again. You were incredible rude and disrespectful to Penny, Lorelai, and Emily. You pushed Lorelai when she is already dealing with an injury and when she was just trying to help you." Derek told her making sure she knew he knew all that had happened
"Oh, so you just believe everything Lorelai says huh?" Rebecca said
"No, actually none of that came from Lorelai. That came from JJ & Penny." Derek told her.
"Lorelai slapped me. I have the mark on my face to prove it!" Rebecca said
"Yes. She slapped you after you pushed her." Derek reminded her.
"Oh, so that just makes it okay?" Rebecca asked
"No. Didn't say that. But I'm talking to you not Lorelai right now. And drop the attitude you're just making this worse for yourself." He told her
Rebecca sighed. "I will apologize to Emily."
"What about Penny? And Lorelai?" He asked
"Don't owe either of them an apology." Rebecca said
"You made Penny cry." He said highly annoyed
"By telling her the truth?" Rebecca asked
"Nothing you said to Penny was the truth. She loves you Rebecca. She treats you like a member of her family." He told her
"Bullshit." Rebecca said
Derek was furious with her. He nodded. "Fine, you are acting like a child so I will treat you like one. Go stand in the corner." He told her
Rebecca laughed. "Like hell I will."
Derek pulled her up from her seat and smacked her butt hard as he led her to the corner of the living room. "Rebecca Harris you will do as you are told." He said smacking her butt again.
Rebecca yelped. 'Fuck' she thought when did his hand become like steel.
"You will stand there and think about what you did last night and how much you hurt the people who have accepted you as one of their own and love you, you will thinking about how you will repair the damages you have done to those friendships." He told her
Rebecca didn't say anything.
"I'm very disappointed in you." Derek added before he walked away.
Rebecca let a few tears fall. She was starting to realize how badly she had screwed up last night and how she wasn't helping her case this morning.
Derek sat on the couch and texted Penny. 'How are you this morning baby girl?' He asked
Penny rolled over and groaned. She had gotten a little drunk the night before after coming home. She looked at the text and texted back 'headache'
Derek took a breathe. 'How much did you drink last night after getting home?' He asked her
Penny bit her lip 'Yeah. I got a bit drunk.'
'Why didn't you just call me to talk it out?' He asked
'I don't know.' She responded.
'Drink some water, eat some food' He told her
'I will.' Penny responded getting up and going and getting herself a glass of water.
Derek looked up at Rebecca who was exactly where he left her.
"Are you ready to discuss this like adults?" He asked her
"Y-yes sir." She said her voice shaky
Derek took a breathe. "Come sit." He told her
Rebecca came over taking her coat off in the process. She sat down
"So. Who do you own an apology to?" He asked
"Emily, Lorelai & Penny." She said
Derek nodded. "Good. And you know what you said to Penny isn't true right?" He asked
"Yes." She said looking down.
"So why did you drink so much last night?" He asked
"I found out something about my biological parents." Rebecca said. "It isn't good news and I just wanted to forget. So, I drank a lot and tried to smoke weed. Didn't get very far before Penny came out and took the joint." She said
"Why didn't you just talk to me or talk to the girls? Isn't that the point of having friends to support each other through the hard times?" He asked her
"I'm just not ready to talk about it." Rebecca said
Derek nodded. "Okay. I understand that but that's still not an excuse to get drunk or smoke weed or be really rude and disrespectful to the people who care about you." He said
Rebecca nodded. "I know. There is no excuse for that."
"How are you going to fix your mistakes?" He asked
"I'm sorry for the way I acted this morning and for what I did last night. I will apologize to Lorelai, Emily, and Penny in person when I see them. I wont fight the consequences for my actions." She told him
Derek nodded.
"You are not allowed to drink anymore until you can prove that I can trust you wont get drunk like that again. Do you have anymore weed?" he asked
She shook her head. "No. I only bought a joint."
Derek nodded and pulled her over his lap and removed her pants and underwear.
He started to spank her after a few swats he started the lecture. "If you smoke weed again I will be getting you into a rehab center because I am starting to think it is an addiction." He said continuing to spank her. "If you are ever disrespectful and rude like that again to anyone who cares about you, you will be dealing with my belt." He told her as he started to get harder.
Rebecca was a sobbing mess at this point.
"You will apologize to who we discussed if you don't you will be right back over my lap." He said.
He gave her six more swats. "Am I understood?" he asked
"Y-Yes sir." She said between sobs. Derek nodded and fixed her clothing before sitting her up and holding her close as she sobbed
Rebecca sobbed for a few minutes before calming down.
Derek looked at her. "You are also grounded for one month." He told her
Rebecca sighed.
"Therapy and any appointments are all you are permitted to do." He added
She nodded.
"You hungry?" He asked.
Rebecca nodded.
Derek set her down and went to start making breakfast for the both of them. They both ate. He texted Lorelai.
'Any chance you could come here instead?' He asked
Lorelai saw the text and replied. 'Sure. I'll be there in an hour.' She told him
Lorelai got ready and went and told her dad about the plan change and she left and went to Derek's.
She was buzzed in when she got there, and Derek sent Rebecca to her room for the time being.
Rebecca went and Lorelai was let in
Derek and Lorelai sat on the couch.
"How are you feeling today?" Derek asked her
"Shoulder hurts, still trying to figure out what the hell happened last night." She said
Derek nodded. "I assume you mean trying to figure out why it happened?" He said. "You do actually remember what happened right?"
Lorelai nodded. "I wasn't the one who was drunk I remember."
"JJ and Penny filled me in on what happened. But I know you texted me earlier in the evening about trying to help her and making it worse you told me about her wanting to 'run' anything you left out of that I should know?" He asked
Lorelai shook her head. "No. I told you the jist of the conversation."
"Okay. Your dad know what happened?" He asked
"Yup. Rebecca texted him and told him and I quote 'Your bitch daughter slapped me across the face' before I even got home. He knew there was more to the story than that, so he asked me what happened. I would have told him either way, but she just didn't give me a chance to before she informed him something happened." Lorelai told him
Derek shook his head. "I see."
"Its fine Derek. Don't worry about it." Lorelai told him. "I assume she's here?"
Derek nodded.
"I need to talk to her." Lorelai told him
Derek nodded. "She's in her room."
Lorelai got up and went and knocked on her door.
"Yeah?" Rebecca said
Lorelai went in. "Hey."
"Hi." Rebecca said
"I'm sorry I slapped you." Lorelai said
Rebecca sighed. "I'm sorry too. You were just trying to help me."
Lorelai nodded. "You still thinking of 'running'?"
Rebecca shook her head. "I got some news about my bio-family and I'm just…hurting."
"What? What did you find out?" Lorelai asked sitting on her bed
"I'm not ready to talk about it." Rebecca told her
Lorelai nodded. "When you are ready I am here."
Rebecca nodded. "I know. I didn't hurt you to bad did I?"
Lorelai shook her head. "I'm fine.
The girls hugged.
"So, want to go for lunch this week?" Lorelai asked
"Ha. Yeah no. Can't." Rebecca said
"Oh. How long you grounded for?" Lorelai asked
"A month…" Rebecca said
"Wow. He's playing hard ball." Lorelai said
Rebecca nodded. "Well, I didn't just make one small mistake."
Lorelai nodded.
"How much trouble did you get in?" Rebecca asked
"You're not going to like my answer." Lorelai said
"Oh, come on." Rebecca said
"Well, I was sorry as soon as it happened. I intended to apologize to you. I had already apologised to Emily. I got a bit of a lecture and told he was disappointed in me and that I'm better than that." Lorelai said
"Yeah, but…" Rebecca sighed. "I guess you're right,"
"If it helps I feel guilty." Lorelai said
"Well no. That's not what I want. I know I did far more than you did." Rebecca said
"You will get through the month and than we can go for lunch." Lorelai said
Rebecca nodded.
"Anyways I should go." Lorelai said "Call me if you want to talk. I will come over here if I have to in order to talk to you."
She got up and went out to Derek. "Did you want to lecture me or anything?" She asked
Derek chuckled. "I assume your dad did that right?" He asked
"Yes. He did." Lorelai said
"Did you apologize?" He asked
"Yes we both did." Lorelai said
"Than no I've got nothing to add
Lorelai nodded "I'm heading out than."
Derek nodded. "See you at the office on Monday." He told her
Lorelai nodded and headed out heading back home.
