Rebecca was sitting in a coffee shop waiting for the person she had arranged to meet. She was sipping her coffee.
In came the older man who looked around and saw Rebecca sitting there and went and joined her. "What do you want?" the man asked
"Excuse me?" Rebecca asked
"To keep the secret. Money? How much?" He asked
Rebecca was stunned. "So, your wife has no idea you're my biological father."
"No. She doesn't, and I want to keep it that way." The man said
"Why would I keep your secret? You clearly don't give a shit about me." Rebecca said
"No. I really don't. However, I will give you however much you want. You can go to collage and make something of yourself." He said
Rebecca rolled her eyes. "Does your son know. I certainly hope not because that would just be nasty."
"No, he doesn't know. And he doesn't have to know either." The man said
"How many of us did you father?" Rebecca asked
"Just you. I loved your mother." He told her
"If you loved her so much why the fuck did I end up in that hellhole of a foster home?" Rebecca asked
"I loved her, not you." He said
Rebecca shook her head.
"Who was my mother?" Rebecca asked
The man sighed. "You're not going to like my answer."
"I don't like that you're my father so what difference does it make?" Rebecca asked
The man nodded. "Jessica."
Rebecca was stunned. "W-What? I was actually her biological daughter?"
The man nodded
"So that's why you kept her secret for all those years. Why when we came to you begging for help you just took us back." Rebecca said
"Of course. I protect the ones I love." He said with a smirk
"So, you obviously don't love your son. Because you didn't protect him from having sex with his half-sister." Rebecca said getting up.
"Wait what? He slept with you too?!" The man said
"Yes. And I owe him the truth and I'm going to make sure your wife finds out too. I promise you will pay. But not just with money. You will pay with the loss of your family." Rebecca said leaving the coffee shop and taking a cab to the FBI building. She needed to see her best friend.
She went in when she got there and was escorted up to the squad room. Lorelai looked up and saw Rebecca coming with another agent.
"Thanks Agent Pepper I will take it from here." She said getting up when she saw how upset Rebecca looked.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" She asked
Everyone else was out getting lunch. Lorelai had to much paperwork and was eating a lunch she brought from home.
"I need to talk to someone I know you're working but I just. I want to do something stupid…" Rebecca said
Lorelai led her to Agent Morgan's office she knew he wouldn't care as long as they didn't touch anything. She closed the door. "What's wrong?" Lorelai asked her again
"I found out who my father is. And today I found out who my mother is." Rebecca told her
"Wow. That's crazy who?" Lorelai asked
"Well lets put it this way. Kevin is my half-brother… I lived with my mother till she was murdered and oh yeah I know why the chief kept Jessica's secret." Rebecca said
Lorelai's jaw dropped. "Wait. The chief and Jessica. Your biological parents?"
"Yup." Rebecca said sitting down
Lorelai sat as well.
"And I never told you so I guess I can tell you now. I slept with my half-brother." Rebecca said
"Ew…." Lorelai said "Wait…You slept with Kevin?"
"Yeah… I didn't tell you because I felt like I broke the girl code.." Rebecca said
"I think karma has punished you enough…" Lorelai said with a small smile
"Gee thanks…." She said
"I take it Kevin and his mother know none of this?" Lorelai said
Rebecca shook her head. "I want to tell him I just don't know how…"
"Have you talked to the chief?" Lorelai asked
"Yeah that's how I found out Jessica was my mother." Rebecca said. "He tried to buy my silence."
"Great man isn't he?" Lorelai said sarcastically
"And I share his genetics.." Rebecca said
"DNA affects your looks and medical stuff that's about it. You are nothing like either of them" Lorelai said
Rebecca nodded. "Fuck I want to smoke pot."
Lorelai sighed. "Yeah it could help you forget for a while but when you sober up you will be in the same place. Its not worth it."
"You should let your father know. Because if it showed up on my ancestry thing online it will show up that he's Rachels uncle… unless Jessica is her aunt… This is just so fucked up." Rebecca said
"That whole town was fucked up." Lorelai told her. "Which is why I am never going back there."
Rebecca nodded.
Derek came into his office. "What are you two doing in here? And Rebecca what are you doing here?"
Lorelai looked up. "She was upset and needed to talk. I could tell it was something private. We literally touched nothing but the chairs we are sitting in."
Derek nodded. "What's wrong Becca?" He asked
Rebecca sighed.
Lorelai got up. "I will let you two talk." She left the office.
Derek sat down and Rebecca told him everything. Derek listened. He was surprised at the information.
"You have spoken to him." Derek said
"Yeah… He's in town he met me. I know it was just to try and pay me off." Rebecca told him
"Are you okay?" Derek asked
"Physically yes. But no, I'm not okay." Rebecca said
"What can I do?" Derek asked
"Let me smoke weed?" She asked with an innocent smile
"Not a chance Rebecca." He said
Rebecca sighed.
"Why don't you find yourself something to keep you busy. Join a club or start working out. Something to keep your mind busy." Derek said
"I have been looking for a job." Rebecca said
"That's good. Any interviews yet?" He asked
"No. Just a bunch of resumes and applications done." She said
"Well, I'm sure you will start getting calls soon." He told her "How's therapy going?" He asked
She sighed. "Looking for a new therapist. This one. She's very nice just not the right fit."
Derek nodded. "You do need one you can trust." He agreed "You need to find one though. Its important." He added
Rebecca nodded. "I'm trying."
"Have you tried the names I gave you?" He asked
"Yes. Most of them don't have any room for more patients." Rebecca told him
"Most?" he asked
"There is one. But I just don't know." Rebecca said
"What's the problem?" He asked
"I have looked her up online. Reviews. She's…." Rebecca started
"Got a reputation for having high expectations of her patients?" He asked
Rebecca sighed and looked down. "yeah."
"That's a good thing Rebecca. She will push you to be the best version of yourself." He told her
Rebecca nodded a bit.
"But the decision is ultimately up to you. But you need to find one. Soon." He told her
"I'll give her a try." Rebecca said
"Thank you." He said "What are your plans this afternoon?
"Don't have any." She said
"Well find something to keep yourself busy. I do not want you tempted to go out and buy any marijuana. Or do something else you shouldn't." He told her
Rebecca mumbled "To late."
"Rebecca. What do you mean to late?" He asked her sternly
"Nothing. I should go." She said getting up.
"Rebecca no. You are not leaving this office till you tell me what you mean." He said
She sighed and turned around tears falling
Derek went over and gave her a hug. "You will get through this. And you don't have to do it alone. You have a family full of people who will help you."
Rebecca nodded and hugged him
"Now. Hand it over." He said
"Oh?" Rebecca nodded
"The marijuana you bought." He said
"Oh, come on! How do you know that?" She asked
"I'm a profiler. Hand it over. Now." He said
Rebecca pulled it out her the pocket inside her coat and handed it to him reluctantly
"Find something productive to do. You are on thin ice. Don't push it." He told her
Rebecca sighed and nodded before he escorted her out of the building.
She get a cab and went home. When home she called and made an appointment with the new therapist for the next week. She climbed through the window and sat on the window escape. She often went out there to think and sometimes to smoke a joint, but she didn't have any right now as Derek took her stash.
After sitting out there a while one of the neighbours climbed out onto it as well.
"Oh sorry." He said. "Didn't see you there."
Rebecca shrugged. "No. It's okay. I can go." She said
"Its okay. You can stay." He said as he lit of a cigarette "Want one?" He asked
Rebecca shook her head "no thanks."
"I see you smoking out here all the time." He said
"You see me smoking weed not cigarettes." She told him
"Oh well you can go ahead. I don't care." He said
"Yeah. I don't have any right now." She said.
The man nodded. "Oh. I see."
The two sat out there for awhile.
"The guy you live with, isn't he a police officer?" he asked
"Not exactly. He's a federal agent." She said
"Is he your boyfriend or husband?" He asked her
"No. Um. Its complicated but we are not romantically involved. And never will be. He's more like a parent I guess you could say." She said
"Ooh. I see." He said
"Its why I don't have any weed. He took my stash." She said
The guy chuckled. "Yeah. I guess you cant get away with me much can you."
"If he catches me." She said with a smirk.
"How often does he catch you?" The guy asked
"50% of the time." She said
"Not bad." He said with a chuckle
"Yeah. I really need to find a way to hide it better." She said. "But he is trained in the art of detecting lying."
"Yeah. I guess that comes with the title of federal agent." He said
Rebecca nodded.
"What agency?" He asked
"I don't think I should say." Rebecca told him
The guy nodded. "I understand."
"If you ever need a break or just want to hang out just knock on the door." He said
"Thanks. I'll keep that in mind." Rebecca said
"My dad was a police officer, so I know how it is." He said
"Oh. Was?" She asked
"Yeah he died when I was fifteen." The guy said
"Oh. I'm sorry." She said
"My biofather actually was a police officer too." She told him.
"Oh. Did he pass as well?" He asked
"No. He lost his badge. It's a long story. He was never in my life. I didn't even know who he was till recently. Well, I knew him but didn't know he was my biofather." She said. "Sorry I'm sure you have better things to do than listen to my fucked-up life story."
He shrugged. "My life isn't all sunshine and roses either." He told her
"Maybe not. But I can guarantee mine is far more… Dramatic." She said
"Oh really?" He said with a chuckle.
"Yeah. I'm 99% sure of that." She said
"Okay. Must be pretty bad." He said
"Yeah. But not something I'm going into detail with. Especially when I'm not high." She said
The guy chuckled and nodded. "Fair enough." He said
She got a text and looked at her phone and sighed.
"Must be a great text." The guy said
"Being asking if I am keeping myself busy to stay out of trouble." She said sarcastically
"Ah. I'm guessing it's the guy you live with?" He asked
"Yeah. He is pretty tough on me." She said
"Is that a good thing?" The guy asked
"Sometimes. Sometimes I just want to tell him to fuck off." She said
"I'm guessing telling him that wouldn't go over well." The guy said
Rebecca chuckled. "Nope. Definitely would not."
She texted him back 'I'm staying out of trouble."
"How would you like to get lunch together sometime." The guy asked her
Rebecca looked up from the phone. "Are you asking me on a date?" she asked
"Yes I am." He said
"I don't know. I don't even know your name." She said
"It's Randy." He said
Rebecca nodded. "I'm Becca." She said
"Nice to meet you Becca." He said
"Likewise." She took a breathe. She knew she couldn't stay single forever and the only way to change that was to start dating.
"Sure. Lunch sounds fun." She said
Randy nodded. "How about Saturday?" He asked
Rebecca nodded. "Sounds good."
She got another text 'What are you doing?'
Rebecca texted back. 'Staying out of trouble as I said.' She responded
She stood up. "I should get inside. But I will see you Saturday." She told him
"I will pick you up at 12?" he asked
Rebecca smiled. "Sounds good." She went inside and went to watch TV. She was excited for Saturday but needed some time to wrap her head around dating.
Derek was getting a little annoyed with Rebecca. She was not being straight with him. So, he decided to call her.
Rebecca sighed and answered. "Hello Derek."
"What are you doing Rebecca?" He asked
"I am watching TV." She said
"Why didn't you just tell me that?" he asked
"Because I didn't think you would like me lying. I wasn't doing that when you asked." She said
"Okay what were you doing?" He asked
"Sitting on the fire escape thinking." She said
"Not smoking anything?" He asked
"You took my stash." She told him
"You could have gotten more." He said
"I didn't. For fuck sakes Derek can you please just back off." She said before she hung up on him
Derek sighed. Was he being to tough on her. He knew she was dealing with a lot. He didn't appreciate her hanging up on him though. He figured they could discuss it when he got home.
He got home a couple hours later, and she was watching a movie. Derek said hello and went and showered before sitting down with a beer to watch with her. When the movie was over he turned off the TV.
"We need to talk." He told her
Rebecca sighed. "Okay."
"I understand you are under a lot of stress right now. If you want some space just say so. Do not be rude. Do not hang up on me again." He told her
Rebecca sighed. "I'm sorry. You're right I was rude."
Derek nodded.
"I was sitting on the fire escape talking to the neighbour." She told him
"Oh. Yeah I have seen him around." Derek said
"He asked me out to lunch on Saturday. I said yes." She told him
Derek smiled and nodded. "Sounds fun."
"No rules around that?" She asked
"No. You are an adult, have fun." He told her
Rebecca nodded.
"You know I am hard on you because I care right?" He asked
"Yes I realize that but sometimes I think its to much." She said
Derek nodded. "Okay. I can back off a bit."
"Thank you. I did call and make appointment with the therapist you suggested" She told him
Derek smiled and nodded. "Thank you." He told her
The two of them watched TV for the rest of the evening
