The next morning Lorelai woke up to a text from Rebecca saying she had spoken to Derek, and he had okayed Lorelai doing the background check. Lorelai checked her emails as normal before getting up and heading out to the kitchen.

"Morning Lorelai." Aaron said to his daughter

"Morning." Lorelai said as she grabbed herself a cup of coffee. She sat down and drank her coffee before getting ready and heading to the office. She was the first one there. She figured it was better to get the background check done before the day started in case they had a case come in.

She had gotten the guys name and started to look into him. It didn't take her long before she found he had a few charges for drugs, public intoxication, and bar fights. Lorelai sighed

Derek decided to come in a bit early that day to finish up some paperwork he had been neglecting. He walked past the bullpen on the way to his office.

"You look like you have been here awhile." Derek told her as he stopped by her desk

"Well wanted to get the background check done before a case can come in." Lorelai told him

"What background check?" he asked looking over her shoulder and making a face. "Why are you doing a background check on my neighbour?" Derek asked

Lorelai looked up at him confused. "Um. Becca didn't tell you anything did she?"

"What was she supposed to tell me?" Derek asked

"That she wanted a background check done on him. Since they are dating. She told me she told you…" Lorelai said

"No. She didn't." Derek said

"I promise you I thought she did. I can show you the texts that said she did and that you okayed me doing this." Lorelai told him

"No, its okay. I believe you. What did you find out?" Derek asked

Lorelai pointed to the screen.

Derek looked over her shoulder and read and shook his head.

"Tell her what you found." Derek said

"What? You don't want to do that?" Lorelai asked

"Nope. And don't tell her I know please." Derek said

"Got it." Lorelai said.

She took out her phone and texted Becca 'Did the background check he has a record a lot of charges for drugs, public intoxications and bar fights. These are not old charges. Most recent one was just a couple months ago' Lorelai told her

Rebecca read the text and sighed. 'Okay thanks for letting me know. Guess he's not as good of a guy as I thought' she responded

'Yup' Lorelai responded. She was upset with her but didn't want it to seem that way. 'I've got to get to some paperwork. We can talk later' she sent a final text.

Slowly everyone came in and got to work on paperwork. They didn't get a new case which was probably a good thing as Lorelai was highly distracted that day.

Derek went home at the end of the day. Rebecca was sitting on the couch staring at the blank TV screen.

"Hey, everything okay?" Derek asked Rebecca

Becca was deep in thought. She was upset. After finding out about the record the guy she was dating had she had broken up with him and she was upset. She was shocked out of her thoughts when Derek spoke to her.

"Oh. Hi. Uh. I broke up with Randy." Becca told him

"Oh. Why?" Derek asked. He knew but he wanted to give her a chance to come clean about what she had asked Lorelai to do.

"Found out he's not a good guy. Even more so when I broke up with him. He went off on me saying I wouldn't find anyone like him ever again and that he didn't even care because he has a line of girls he's been 'fucking'" She told Derek

"Wow. Yeah he's an ass." Derek said

Becca nodded.

"But you said you found out he wasn't a good guy even before you broke up with him. What did you find out?" he asked

Becca sighed. "That he has a criminal record. Drug, public intoxication and bar fights." She said

"How did you find that out?" Derek asked

"I blackmailed my biofather into looking it up." Rebecca lied

Derek took a breathe. He had given her several chances to tell him the truth.

"Okay. I walked in on Lorelai doing the background check. She told me everything." Derek said his arms now crossed.

Becca closed her eyes and didn't say anything.

"You looked me straight in the face and lied to me over and over again. You lied to Lorelai and put her career on the line." Derek started. "And the sad part is you could have just asked me. I would have done the background check for you. Or you could have told me you asked Lorelai and I would have been okay with it. But instead, you lied to her, you lied to me and now here we are." He told her his voice stern and slightly raised

"Derek…" Becca started but was cut off

"I'm going to take a shower." He said walking away. He was angry. He needed to calm down before he dealt with her.

Rebecca took out her phone and texted Lorelai. 'Thanks for letting me know he knows BTW' she texted

Lorelai read the text and a huffed laugh escaped her mouth 'You're joking right? You lied to me and put my ass on the line, and you wanted me to protect yours? That's not how it works. And I don't want to hear from you until you are ready to apologize to me.' She texted her back

Rebecca was pissed. She wanted to go on the fire escape, but she also didn't want to risk Randy seeing her. She just went to her room and curled on her bed and waited for the inevitable.

Derek finished his shower. He had calmed. He got dressed before he went and knocked on her door.

"Yes." She said sitting up as Derek came into the room.

"I am proud of you for realizing something was off and taking the steps to protect yourself. I am proud of you for breaking up with him even thought I know you really cared about him." He started

Becca nodded. "I have dealt with enough bad people in my past I don't want them in my future."

Derek nodded. "But I am really disappointed that you felt the need to lie to me. And the fact that you put Lorelai's career on the line as well."

Rebecca looked down. "I will apologize to her, and I am sorry I lied to you. I just was worried that if he was a bad guy that you wouldn't trust my judgement with guys in the future. Its not a good excuse I know but it was the reasoning that went through my head.

Derek nodded. "That's not the case. I would be more likely to trust your judgement because you sensed something was wrong and you did something about it. That proves to me you care about yourself and your safety." Derek told her

Rebecca nodded. "I'm so sorry Derek."

Derek nodded. "I believe you are but there is still going to be consequences." He told her

Rebecca nodded.

Derek grabbed the wooden hairbrush that sat on Rebecca's dresser before sitting on her bed and motioned her over. Rebecca went and got over his lap. Derek quickly pushed her pants and underwear down and started to spank her. She didn't need anymore lecturing so the room was filled with only the sounds of his hand coming down on her unprotected backside. Before long there was also the sounds of whimpers coming from Rebecca. But that didn't change anything Derek just continued bringing his hand down. He was not going easy on her. This wasn't just a little screw up this was a big one and he wanted to make sure she knew that lying to him or anyone who cared about her was unacceptable.

Rebecca started to sob. Derek stopped with his hand and picked up the hairbrush. "Ten with the hairbrush and it will be over." He told her before he peppered her backside with the hairbrush the ten promised times.

Rebecca was a blubbering mess by the end. She had been spanked before yes, but this was a whole other ball game he was not messing around. Clearly she had fucked up worse than ever before with him.

When he was done he gently fixed her clothing and sat her up in his lap wrapping her and a hug giving her a chance to calm down. Rebecca sobbed for several minutes into his shoulder slowly calming down. Once she was calm Derek moved her to the bed next to him.

"Don't you ever lie to me again." He said

"Yes sir." She said

"Okay. Its forgiven from me." He told her

Rebecca nodded.

"You okay?" He asked

"Just heartbroken." Rebecca said

"You will get over him and realize you much better off without him." He said

"Not about him. I'm hurt but not that much. I'm heartbroken I hurt you and Lorelai." Becca told him

"Becca you are still learning. You make mistakes. Hell, I make mistakes and yes there are always consequences whether it is a natural consequence or a physical consequence. You have death with the consequences. Apologize to Lorelai and give her time she will forgive you too." He told her

Becca nodded. "I will apologize to her."

Derek nodded.

Becca called Lorelai and apologized over voice mail when Lorelai didn't answer the phone. She figured she could apologize again in person when she saw her. She went and took a shower and sat with Derek to have dinner and winding down for the night.
