JJ had gone into the office early on a Tuesday morning. She was tired of waiting for the local police to do their job and find the woman who had left her little boy alone in the park. It wasn't a one-time thing. It had been multiple times. She couldn't even be sure how many times because her son was too young to be able to tell them exactly how many times it had been. But she was done waiting for them to find her and she was going to take matters into her own hands.

She turned on her computer and waited for it so start up before opening a background check on this woman. She had wanted to do one before they hired her, but Will had convinced her to just take the background check that the woman had from a police record check and vulnerable sector check and both of those showed she was cleared.

She typed the woman's name into the computer and instantly several things popped up. She was confused because there was no way the police would have missed any of this on their check and when the police started their investigation they would have found this, and she and Will had been told nothing. She kept looking deeper and the more she did the angrier she got.

Lorelai came in a bit early that day. She had needed to finish up some paperwork that she had been neglecting and Hotch had been getting after her to get it done. When she got there she saw JJ there and looking angry.

"What's wrong?" Lorelai asked

JJ looked up. "Oh nothing." JJ said closing down what she was doing.

"Bullshit." Lorelai said with a smile

JJ sighed. "I'm tired of waiting for the police to do their job and find that woman who left my child alone in the park."

"Oh… Well take it from me. Don't try and do anything on your own." Lorelai said

JJ chuckled. "Don't worry I wont."

"What did you find?" Lorelai asked

"Well, it seems that she must have gotten a fake background check or something before we hired her because she has an extensive criminal record." JJ told her

"Wow. That bitch. Why don't you let Hotch know. He will help." Lorelai said

"No. Its okay. I'll just talk to the police who are investigating the case." JJ said

Lorelai nodded. "Okay."

"I'm going to call Will and let him know." JJ said getting up and walking away

Lorelai felt in her gut that JJ wasn't calling Will. She waited till she was far enough away, and she went and followed her keeping enough of a distance she saw her leave the building and head to her car. Lorelai took a breathe before she got into her own car and called Will

Will was at the station when his phone rang. He looked at it and saw it was Lorelai. "Agent Hotchner Jr how can I help you?" He answered

"Um Will. We might have a situation here. With JJ." Lorelai said

"What do you mean?" He asked

Lorelai told him what she saw this morning and what JJ told her and such.

"And you're following her now?" Will asked

"I don't want her to do something stupid alone. I don't know if that woman is dangerous and I'm worried… I know what it feels like when someone you care about has been hurt." Lorelai told him

"Okay. Keep following and keep me updated. I will get the officers who are lead on the case involved." Will told her

"I'm following her. She will not be alone." Lorelai said

"Good. At least one of you knows how to ask for help." Will said

JJ pulled up to the apartment building that was listened as the woman's address. She got out of the car

Lorelai pulled up behind and followed her into the building. "Is this where she lives?" Lorelai asked when she got close enough to her.

"What are you doing here?" JJ asked

"Keeping you from doing something stupid." Lorelai told her

"You don't think following me is stupid?" JJ asked

She shook her head. "Because I've called for backup."

"Who?" JJ asked

"Will." Lorelai said

"You called my husband?!" JJ asked

"Would you not call Reid?" Lorelai asked

"That's different." JJ said

"No, its not and even if it was I don't care." Lorelai said

At that moment the door to the stairs opened up and out came the woman who JJ had come to confront. The woman looked at the two of them her eyes bulged.

"What the hell did you think you were doing leaving him ALONE." JJ yelled at the woman

The woman smirked. "Just doing what I had to."

JJ saw black and went to attack the woman. Lorelai saw what was happening and grabbed JJ holding her back.

"JJ. She is not worth it!" Lorelai told her

"Did you not hear what she said?!" JJ asked as she fought against Lorelai

"Yes I did. She's a horrible human being." Lorelai agreed having trouble keeping her back.

At that moment Will and the two other officers came in the door.

Will saw Lorelai holding JJ back he looked at the other woman. "Arrest her." He told the other officers which they did taking her out of there

"Jennifer enough." Will said to her standing in front of her.

Lorelai let her go knowing Will would have better luck keeping her calm than she could at the moment.

"Will move." JJ said

"No. You will calm down." Will told her sternly

Lorelai moved around the two of them quickly leaving them alone.

"Jennifer we talked about this. We said we would let them handle it." Will said

"And they did nothing. She has an extensive criminal record." JJ told him

"I know." He said

"Wait what? You knew?" JJ asked

"No. I didn't. I know because Lorelai told me that you told her she had a record, and I asked the other officers after that fact. They told me." Will told her

"And knowing this you aren't furious with them for not telling you?" She asked

"Of course, I am Jennifer! I want to rip heads off. Are you forgetting that he is my son too?" He asked her

"No. Of course not but you don't seem to be as angry as me." JJ said

"I'm controlling my anger because right now it serves no use." He told her

JJ leaned into him and broke down sobbing.

Will wrapped her in a hug. "I know. It's going to be okay." He told her.

Lorelai went over to the cop car and asked the officers to open the back window. And when it was opened Lorelai looked at the woman.

"You are damn lucky I was here because if I wasn't you would be in the back of an ambulance not the back of a cop car. And the only reason I didn't let her tear into you in two is because I would be devastated if I didn't get to see her every day because she would be in jail. And because I am not going to let her kids grow up without their mom. But I promise you I will make sure that you serve everyday of the longest sentence that you can get for what you did, and I will make sure everyone you are in general population with knows exactly what you did to that little boy." She said in a low calm voice.

She turned to the officers. "And you two should be ashamed of yourselves that it came to this. You knew where she was and did nothing after what she did to a fellow officers son." She said before she walked away from them.

Will and JJ came outside the building. Will looked at JJ. "You're going back to the office?" he asked

JJ nodded.

"Promise?" He asked her

JJ smiled a bit and nodded. "I promise."

They both went over to Lorelai.

"Thank you for protecting her." Will said

"Always." Lorelai said

JJ and Lorelai went back to the office and Will went with the officers back to the station.

Lorelai looked at JJ when they got back to the office. "You can tell Hotch, or I will." Lorelai told JJ

"Seriously Lorelai? You have done worse." JJ said

"Well yes. But I have been busted every. Single. Time. And if the roles were reversed you would be telling me the same thing." Lorelai said

JJ sighed.

"I will always have your back, but Hotch will find out one way or another and if I am found to have been involved and not informed anyone I will lose my job. I am on a short leash after the last time I fucked up and I will go to my grave protecting you and those kids, but I will not risk my job when all you needed to do is tell Hotch." Lorelai told her

"I didn't ask for you to be involved." JJ pointed out

"You're kidding right? You would be going to jail right now if it wasn't for me! And maybe you don't care but I will not let those kids grow up with out their mother. Kelsey already lost one mother." Lorelai said walking away and heading up to Hotch's office.

"Lorelai wait." JJ said following her. "You're right I'm sorry. We can tell him together."

Lorelai nodded. "Deal." They both went and JJ knocked on his door.

"Enter." Hotch said

They both went in.

Hotch looked up. "JJ, Lorelai what can I do for you?" He asked

"There was a situation this morning. I need to tell you about." JJ said

"We need to tell you about." Lorelai told him

"Okay. Sit. Talk." He told them

Both women sat on the couch in his office.

JJ started talking telling him everything. Lorelai added her involvement in when needed.

Hotch listened. "Agent Hotchner it didn't occur to you to call me and inform me of what was going on?" He asked

JJ stepped in. "She called for backup she didn't do it on her own. This is on me."

"Agent Jareau I will get to you." He said

JJ shut up

"I didn't think it was necessary to involve the team. I had every intention of making sure you knew what had happened. I called for backup with the people who were investigating this case. I knew with Will's help I could handle it. If you think I was wrong I understand but I would do this again the exact same way. Family comes first." She told him

Aaron sighed and nodded. "No. You're right this wasn't an FBI case. You did the right thing. I'm sorry I shouldn't be coming down on you."

Lorelai nodded.

"Now if you don't mind I would like to talk to JJ alone.' He said

Lorelai gave JJ a sympathetic smile before she got up and left.

Once she was gone Hotch looked at JJ. "Are you okay?" he asked

"Yeah. Hotch look I get it I shouldn't have done that on my own it will not happen again." She said

Hotch nodded. "One call. You needed to make one call. To anyone on this team or to Will or you could have just asked Lorelai she was sitting across from you."

"I know. I just. You're a parent you understand." She said

"I do understand wanting to do everything to protect our children. But if Lorelai hadn't seen what was happening and stepped in to help where would you be sitting right now?" He asked her

"Probably a jail cell." She said

Hotch nodded. "What did Will have to say?"

"He's pissed. I'm sure I haven't heard the last of it from him." JJ said

"Good. You shouldn't. But I'm not going to pile on. You pull a stunt like this again and I wont be lenient. Understood?" Hotch asked

"Yes sir. I understand." She said

"You okay to work?" He asked

JJ nodded. "Yes."

"Okay if that changes you let me know. Because Lorelai is right. Family comes first." Aaron told her

JJ nodded and left when she was told she could go.
