It had been six weeks since Lorelai had sprained the bones in her hand, and she had been being kept basically on desk work since than. She wasn't thrilled about it, but she knew it was what was best, and she was finally learning to do what she was told. Thankfully she had been given a clean bill of health and was able to finally be back in the field.
Spencer had been keeping an eye on her and making sure she didn't get too distracted and not eating but there hadn't been an issue which Spencer was glad about.
Aaron had spoken to Rebecca who agreed without any hesitation to watching Jack after school and keeping an eye on Rachel as well when they were out of town for a case. And that had been going really well. Jack knew her and liked her and hadn't given her any trouble. Aaron was thrilled and knew they had finally found the right person.
The squad room was quiet. It was late afternoon. They had just gotten back from a case and were doing paperwork. Lorelai's phone rang. "Agent Hotchner Jr." She said answer the phone. It was the director and he asked her to come to his office.
"Will be right there Director." She said before she hung up and went up to the directors office and knocked.
"Come in." She heard before she opened the door and went into the office. There was a lead agent from another team there as well. "Agent Smith." She said nodding
"Have a seat Agent Hotchner." The director said
Lorelai sat down in the chair she was pointed to.
"Agent Smith has a case his team is working, and they need a someone young to go undercover." The director said.
"Oh. I see. What is the case?" Lorelai asked
"It involves human trafficking. And we think we have a suspect, but we cant prove it." Agent Smith told her.
"What would I be doing? I mean assuming you are asking -me to be the undercover agent." Lorelai said
"You would be used as bait to lure our unsub." Agent Smith said
Lorelai nodded and was filled in on all the details she needed to know. She listened to the full explanation and than she asked. "Has Agent Hotchner Sr. been informed about this?" Lorelai asked
"No. We have a feeling he would say no and its frankly not up to him. If he finds out I will take the heat for it." The director said
Lorelai nodded a bit.
"Look obviously everyone here knows you're his daughter." Agent Smith started. "And I as a father understand why he might have reservations, but you are a good agent and I promise I will not let anything happen to you." He continued "I also would understand if you decline out of respect for him and your team, but you are the best agent for this. It is better and frankly easier than trying to find an actually teenager who is in the ring and getting them to flip." He finished
Lorelai took a breathe. "I completely understand the situation you are in. I understand why I am being asked." She started. "I want to help. I know the director knows about my past but in case you don't Agent Smith when it comes to teenagers or children in general being abused it triggers something in me." She continued. "I just have a hard time agreeing with it unless Agent Hotchner is informed." She finished
"I get that, and I appreciate the fact that you want him to know because of past situations. But as the director I can approve this without him being told." The director told her
"I get that. I understand my ass is covered but at the end of the day I have to go home with him as my dad and yes I am sure he wouldn't hold it against me but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be upset about it." Lorelai said
"Well, I understand if you don't want to do it, but Agent Hotchner will not be being informed and you can not tell him either." The director told her
"If he finds out I will talk to him and make sure he understands you did this only because you wanted to help and that you were told not to say anything." Agent Smith said
Lorelai didn't feel great about this, but she really did want to help these kids. She knew technically she wasn't doing anything wrong and that her job was not in jeopardy either way.
"What happens when he noticed I'm not there or when a new case comes in and I'm not there." Lorelai said
"I will handle it." The director said
Lorelai took a breathe and nodded. "I want to help. I will do it." She said
"Thank you. Again, I promise my team will keep you safe." Agent Smith assured her
Lorelai nodded and she went with him to get to work. She had to leave her phone behind and was given a burner phone and a tracking device was placed on a cheep dolphin necklace which also had a very tiny microphone on it. She put it around her neck. She also had changed into an outfit that made her look a bit younger than she was.
She was taken to the place where she was being dropped off which was a truck stop where several of the missing girls had last been seen. Her cover story was that she was a teenage runaway from New York, and she had made her way here on the bus. Her name was Amanda Terse she was fifteen. She had repeated that a hundred times to make sure she knew, and she had gotten into that character. It wasn't long she was there before she had gotten the attention of their unsub. One of the employee at the truck stop was who they were watching for, however, that wasn't the man who sat down at the table across from her.
"Um h-hello." She said trying to sound like the shy innocent teenager that would draw the person in.
"Hi. I noticed you were sitting her alone and look scared. Are you okay?" The older man asked
Lorelai nodded. "I'm fine."
"You sure? Where are your parents?" He asked
She nodded. "They are in New York."
"Do they know where you are?" The man asked seemingly concerned
"No. They don't." She said. "And I don't want them to."
"Sweety I am a father. I would be so worried. Here why don't I take you home. I am a truck driver, and I am driving straight through to New York. You can call your parents from my phone. I left it in my truck." He told her
"No. I'm not going back there." Lorelai said in character
The man took a breathe. "I just want to help. Maybe I should just call the police." He said
"No. Please don't do that. Look my parents…They aren't good people. I am safer on my own." She said
"I get that. I know of a place you can go nearby. They will help make sure you are safe. Why don't you let me take you there." He said
Lorelai took a breathe. "I- I guess that would be okay. As long as you promise you wont call the police." She said
He nodded. "What's you name?" He asked her as he got up
"Amanda Terse" She told him getting up as well and went with the man out to his truck.
"What's your name?" She asked
"Walter Jacobs" He told her
She got into the passenger side. The man got into the drivers side. She didn't know but the moment she got into that truck and closed the door the connection on the tracking device and microphone was cut off. The man had planned for situations like this and had a device in his truck to cut of any tracking devices.
They started driving down the road. They went down some back roads before the man pulled over and took out a gun and pointed it at Lorelai with a smirk
"Um…What are you doing?" She asked her voice shaky
"Shut up and get into the back of the truck." He told her
"I-I…" She said
"NOW!" he yelled
Lorelai did as she was instructed. Where the hell was her backup she was wondering because she was now in danger.
