After getting her situated at home Spencer went back to the office. When he got there he went to Derek's office.
"Thank you for being there for her." Spencer said
Derek nodded. "I wouldn't have left her. I thought about what I would have wanted if it was Penny, and you were there. She told you about -everything?" he asked
"Yeah. The miscarriage…" He said
"I'm sorry Spencer. I cant image." Morgan said
"I didn't know. Sure, it was my baby, but I didn't even get a chance to know she was pregnant. I'm fine." Spencer told him
"Okay. Well, if that changes." Derek told him
"I get it. I will talk to you if I need to" Spencer said
"Is she telling her dad?" Derek asked
"I don't know. I didn't ask. I wont be." Spencer said
"No. Its her decision if she tells him." Derek said
Spencer nodded.
"You sure you're okay?" Derek asked
Spencer sat down. "She was pregnant with my baby…" he said
"Yeah. And she can get pregnant again. When you are both ready." Derek told him
"I know. I'm not angry just maybe more affected than I'm ready to admit." Spencer said
"I get that." He said squeezing his shoulder
Spencer took a breathe. "But I will be okay. I should get to the paperwork." Spencer said
Derek nodded and let him go. Spencer went to his own desk and got to work on the paperwork not saying anything to anyone else for fear he would break down if he did.
At the end of the day everyone but Spencer and Aaron had left.
Aaron came down from his office. "Its late Reid you can finish the paperwork tomorrow." He said
"I need to focus on something." Reid said
"Lorelai texted me about the miscarriage." Aaron said
"Oh. I wasn't sure if she was going to tell you." Spencer said
"I think she thinks I am angry with her and will be less harsh on her if I know." Aaron said
Spencer nodded. "She wanted to stay at my place for a few days to avoid you. I wouldn't let her."
"Thank you for that." Aaron said, "How are you feeling?" Aaron asked
"I- I'm sad." Spencer said
"I get that. Before Jack. Hailey had two miscarriages I was heartbroken. The second one we didn't even know before she had the miscarriage, so I understand how it feels in that situation. You didn't even have a chance to know that she was pregnant, but it still hurts." Aaron said
"Yeah. It does." Spencer said
"You need a few days off? Talk to your phycologist?" He asked
"I have an appointment in a couple days but no I don't need time off." Spencer said
"Okay. Why don't you come for dinner? You can stay the night if you want." Aaron said
"I don't want to set a bad example for your other two kids." Spencer said
"Spencer come on its fine. They know they will have the same opportunities when they are adults." Aaron said. "Do not make me order you." He said with a small smile.
Spencer chuckled. "Got it. I will be there in an hour."
"You better." Aaron said before he left
Aaron went home and went straight to Lorelai's room and knocked.
"Yes?" Lorelai said
Aaron went in and went and wrapped her in a tight hug. "I am so sorry." Aaron said to his daughter who just started to sob into him. Aaron held her till she calmed down.
Aaron held her chin and made her look at him. "I am not angry with you even a little bit. I know you didn't want to do it without me knowing. The director put you a position that wasn't fair. You don't ever need to avoid me." Aaron told her
Lorelai nodded sniffling.
Aaron hugged her tight again. "Because Hotchner's don't run from our problems we face them head on. Got it?" He said with a smile
Lorelai chuckled. "Yes Sir." She said
"Good. Spencer is coming for dinner and if you want and he wants he can stay the night." Aaron said
"Okay. Thanks dad." She said
"Of course. I know what he is feeling. Before Jack, Hailey had two miscarriage one we didn't even know she was pregnant before she miscarried. I don't think I could have handled it alone. You need each other." Aaron said
Lorelai nodded. "I don't disagree."
"Did you know you were pregnant?" Aaron asked
"I knew it was possible. I had taken two at home pregnancy tests. One was positive one was negative." Lorelai said. "I know I shouldn't have taken the undercover assignment."
"Hey. No. You are not allowed to blame yourself. Women have miscarriages all the time. They work all kinds of professions you have no way of knowing what caused this. This is not your fault." He told her
"But…" she started
"Nope. I want to hear you say it." He told his daughter
Lorelai sighed. "It's not my fault."
"What isn't your fault?" He nudged
"The miscarriage wasn't my fault." Lorelai said
"Again." He told her
She let a few tears fall. "The miscarriage wasn't my fault."
Aaron hugged her. "That's right."
Lorelai hugged him for a minutes before pulling apart. "Thanks."
"You hungry?" Aaron asked
"Kind of yeah." Lorelai said
"What do you want for dinner? We can do take out." Aaron told her
"Pizza?" Lorelai asked
"Sounds good. What did the doctor say by the way?" He asked
"No concussion. Bruised shoulder and hand. Three days of rest and one week not in the field. If I still have pain after that I am to go back and get checked again." Lorelai said. "And the miscarriage he gave me medication to speed the process, but it should pass on its own. If I have issues to go back for that as well." She added
"Okay. Thank you for being honest." He said
"Derek told you didn't he…" Lorelai said
"Told me what?" Aaron asked
"That I wasn't…. exactly forthcoming about everything right way at the hospital." Lorelai said
"Nope. Derek didn't tell me." Aaron said
"Did you tell the doctor everything in the end?" He asked
"Yes." She said. "After Derek called me out on lying. Apparently he knows my tell too." Lorelai said
"Yup. Everyone on the team know." He said
"Oh, so you told them." Lorelai said
"A couple of them. The rest of them figured it out like I did." Aaron said
Lorelai nodded.
"I'm going to order the pizza. Spencer should be here soon." He said. Aaron left the room and went and ordered pizza before going and saying hello to his other kids and Rebecca inviting her to stay for dinner as well.
"Thanks. I think I will stay." Rebecca said
There was a knock on the door. Aaron went and let Spencer in, and he had a couple bags. "Some of Lorelai's favorites." Spencer said
"Perfect. Pizza is on its way too." Aaron said letting him in.
Spencer put the bags on the counter and grabbed a Gatorade out of the bags before heading up to Lorelai's room knocking and going in when she said it was okay.
"Hey. I brought you Gatorade. Thought you probably need lots of fluids." He said
Lorelai smiled and took the bottle that Spencer had already opened drinking some of it before setting it on her nightstand.
Spencer wrapped her in a hug. "I'm here as long as you need me."
"Good. I want you here." Lorelai said
Spencer smiled and moved her to his lap. "I'm here." he said
Lorelai snuggled into his arms.
"I love you Lor." He said
"I love you to Spenc." She said
"How are you feeling?" He asked
"Physically my shoulder and hand are a bit sore. My headache is gone. My heart hurts the most." Lorelai said
"Yeah. I'm sad too. But I know we have lots of time to have a child in the future." He said
"I don't want to wait." She said
"What?" Spencer asked
"When I am medically cleared to do so I want to start trying. I will take all the precautions. Be on desk work if I have to. I want to have a baby." Lorelai said
"Okay. Lorelai. I want kids with you too. But you are not thinking clearly right now. You are upset and so am I. Why don't we take a few days, and we can revisit this conversation." Spencer said
"What you think I am to unstable to know what I want?" Lorelai asked
"No. Of course not baby. I'm not ready." He said
"Oh. Okay. Just tell me that." Lorelai said
"You're right I should have just told you. I'm sorry." Spencer said
Lorelai nodded.
When the pizza got there everyone went and sat down to eat.
After eating a piece and a bit of salad that had also been ordered Lorelai said she was going to lay back down. She went.
"She getting sick?" Rachel asked
"No. Got hurt at work." Aaron told her
"She's been hurt before this is different." Rachel said
"Yeah…I mean the last time she was like this." Rebeca said
"She's fine." Spencer said
"Okay. That means shut up and stop asking questions." Rachel said
"It means Spencer and I have it covered and unless she wants to talk to you about it leave it to us." Aaron told Rachel
"Got it." Rachel said.
Rebecca finished eating and got up and went and knocked on Lorelai's door.
"Yes?" Lorelai said
Rebecca went in. "So, the last time I saw you like -this. Was right after you got out of the home and had to end your pregnancy."
Lorelai sighed. "I forgot you saw me like that."
"So. You're pregnant?" Rebecca asked
"No. Not anymore. I'm miscarrying." Lorelai said
"Damn. I'm sorry. Did you know you were pregnant?" she asked
"Knew it was possible didn't know for sure." Lorelai said
Spencer came upstairs to hear the end of the conversation.
"I thought Aaron told you to leave it alone." Spencer said to Rebecca
"I have seen her like this before I had an idea of what was going on. I came to talk to her about it." Rebecca said
"Mhm" Spencer said
"Spenc its fine. I would have told her eventually anyways." Lorelai said
"I'm sorry." Rebecca said leaving the room
"Spencer. She is my best friend, and she has known me for a lot longer than you." Lorelai said annoyed
"And your dad told them to wait till you are ready to talk." He said
"She didn't come in here demanding answers. She came in already knowing it had something to do with a pregnancy and in case you are forgetting I was pregnant before and she saw me than. She knows me better than you." She said
"Really? She knows you better than me? Well, what exactly don't I know about you that she does?" Spencer asked
"Its not about how much she knows vs you its about the fact that she was there when I had to terminated the pregnancy or die. I choose to live." She said
"I know that Lorelai. Why don't you really tell me why you are really angry with me?" He said loudly
"Because I know you are saying you don't want to be a father yet because you don't think I am sane enough to make that decision. But guess what Spencer I have wanted to try for a baby for months I just didn't say anything to you." Lorelai said louder
"Oh. So, you think its okay not to tell me you want a child with me. What did you stop your birth control so you would get pregnant without telling me?" he asked
"God NO! Spencer of course not. I didn't go off my pills. And if you really think I would do that without telling you than you don't know me at all." Lorelai said
"Well, you didn't tell me you wanted to get pregnant, and you got pregnant." He said
"You can get pregnant on the pill. Happens all the time." Lorelai said
"Okay. I believe you but you still didn't tell me something very big to do with our relationship." He said
"Yes and I was trying to figure out how to bring it up." Lorelai said
"What do you mean trying to?" he asked. "You couldn't just tell me?"
"I don't know…" She said
Spencer sat on the bed and let out a breathe. "Okay. I'm sorry I got annoyed. Can we just talk." He said
Lorelai nodded. "I'm sorry too. I should have told you when I got the positive pregnancy test in the first place."
"Its forgiven. So, you're ready to be a mom?" He asked
Lorelai shrugged. "Honestly. Its back and forth which is why I have said nothing until now."
"You're not sure. Okay. This is why we talk about things." Spencer said
Lorelai nodded.
"Baby. Look at me." He said
Lorelai looked up
"If you really honestly are ready to take this next step I'm on board. But I think there is more going on here." He said
Lorelai let tears fall.
"Is this about your mother?" He asked
Lorelai nodded.
Spencer wrapped her in a hug.
"You will be a great mother. When the time is right." He told her. "But I think we both know this is not the right time." He said
Lorelai sighed and nodded. "I'm sorry Spenc…" She said
"Its forgiven." He said he kissed her head. "Now lay back down and rest." He said
Lorelai smiled and laid down. Spencer tucked her in and said he would be right back. He want down to Rebecca. "I'm sorry I know you just wanted to help her. I shouldn't have reacted the way I did." He said
Rebecca nodded. "I understand. You just wanted to protect her from anymore emotional pain. Just so you know. We all heard…"
"Yeah. I figured. We were a little loud." Spencer said
Rebecca smiled. "You two will be okay. She loves you more than anything." Rebecca told him
"I know. I love her too." Spencer said
"I know. I see the way you look at each other." She told him
Spencer chuckled.
"How are you anyways?" Spencer asked Rebecca
"I'm okay. Loving the new job as the babysitter." She said
Spencer nodded. "Yup. You have helped a great deal. I know Aaron was under a lot of stress trying to find a good sitter."
"Yeah. I'm glad he trusts me." Rebecca said
"What do you mean?" Spencer asked
"I know I haven't been making the best decisions lately…" Becca said
"Okay well you weren't here when Lorelai first came to be part of the team. She made some decisions that weren't great, but Aaron trusted her. There is no reason why he wouldn't trust you. Your bad choices don't mean you wouldn't be good with these two kids who we all know you love. Rachel is your cousin. And Jack loves you just as much as he loves Lorelai." Spencer told her.
Rebecca nodded.
"Do you disagree with that?" Spencer asked
"No. And I love those kids like they are my brother and sister I just get scared I will screw up again and they will end up getting hurt." Rebecca said
"Becca I understand why you feel that way, but do you honestly think you would do anything to hurt them?" He asked
"Not intentionally of course not." Becca said. "But if I make another bad decision…"
"Than you will have an entire family of people to back you up and kick your ass." He said with a smile
Becca chuckled "I know."
"Now is there something in particular going on in which you have a decision to make that could be bad?" Spencer asked
"No…" She said looking away
"Okay that's a lie." He said
Becca sighed "It's complicated. I've already made the right decision about something. I just trying to figure out if I should tell Derek." She said
"Well from my experience if you are debating telling someone something you should do it. Maybe you can tell me and maybe I can help you to tell Derek." Spencer offered
"You have your hands full with Lorelai. I'll tell Derek. I am going to go." Becca said
"Are you sure?" Spencer asked
"Yes. Thank you though." Becca said getting up and leaving
Spencer texted Derek. 'I'm not sure exactly what is going on but I'm at Lorelai's and just had a conversation with Becca. I think you need to ask her to tell you what's going on because she wouldn't tell me. She did say she would tell you about it but not sure I believe her.'
Derek saw the text and sighed. 'Thanks Spencer. I'll take care of it. You take care of Lorelai'
Spencer went back upstairs where Lorelai was asleep. He made sure she was covered and sat on the chair in her room and started to read an article on his phone.
