The next day was Friday. Hotch had already talked to the director. He got his team the day off to have a long weekend. The case they had worked had been long and they had a lot of paperwork that they had just finished the day before and he knew they needed a break.
Aaron got up to get Jack off to school. Rachel was still serving her suspension, but he made her get up at her regular time. While he was gone in North Carolina Rebecca had gone to the school and got Rachel's assignments and he knew she had been neglecting doing them and that wasn't going to fly while he was home.
He started the coffee. He was going to let Lorelai sleep in, but she was up not long after him and went straight to the coffee. He handed her a cup.
Lorelai smiled and took it. "Thank you."
"How's your shoulder?" He asked
"Sore. But nothing I cant handle." Lorelai told him
"You need to call Morgan. Today." He told her
"I will." Lorelai said
They ate breakfast and Jack went off to school. Aaron and Rachel went to the office to call the principal and Lorelai called Morgan
"Lorelai. Hi. How are you feeling?" He asked when he answered the phone.
"I'm okay. Sore but nothing I cant handle." She said
"Good." He said
"Derek. I'm sorry." She said
"Are you really?" He asked
"I'm not sorry I did it. But I'm sorry I had to ignore an order to do it." She told him. "If I had to do it again. I wouldn't do anything differently though." She answered honestly
"Thank you for being honest. But you are still in trouble." He told her
"I know. I'm not going to try and get out of it." Lorelai said
"I'm taking it you cant drive." He said
"No. Not for several weeks." She said
"Are you in too much pain to deal with it today?" He asked
"No. I can handle it." She said
"I will pick you up in an hour. Should be dealt with at the office." He told her
"Yes sir." She said
They hung up
Meanwhile in the office at the Hotchner house. Aaron and Rachel had just gotten off the phone with the principal and Rachel had told her everything.
"Now get to working on the schoolwork you have." Aaron told her
Rachel nodded and went and got to work.
Lorelai told her dad where she was going before she left and went out to Derek's vehicle. The drive to the office was quiet. Both of them were deep in thought.
They got to the building and went to Derek's office.
"Sit." He told her
Lorelai sat down. Derek sat across from her at his desk and pulled out some paperwork.
"Read it. And if you agree sign it." He told her. He wanted to get the final paperwork done with so they could move on from the case.
Lorelai read it over, signed it, and slid it back over to him.
Morgan put it in a file and in the top drawer of his desk. "Okay. Now that's done. Stand up." He told her
Lorelai took a breathe and stood up.
Derek stood up and removed his belt. "Over the desk." He told her
Lorelai did as she was told.
"If your shoulder starts hurting to much you need to tell me. Okay?" He said
"Yes Sir." She said
Derek wrapped the buckle of the belt around his hand before bringing the other end down on her backside.
"There is a chain of command." He started to lecture before he brought the belt down again. "Which I know you are well aware of." He continued bringing it down again. "This isn't the first time we have this discussion." He said before bringing the belt down twice more.
She whimpered with each thwack from the belt.
"You almost lost your life. Again. You die. This team. Will break. You are well aware of that." He said bringing the belt down four more times.
Lorelai started to cry softly.
"You came to this team as a broken girl and kept making stupid choices that caused you to almost die and almost lose your job. You aren't that little girl anymore. You know better and yet here we are." He lectured.
Two more swats landed on her backside. She started to sob.
"The next time you disobey my direct order I will bench you. Is that clear?" He asked as he brought the belt down one last time harder than the others.
Lorelai sobbed out "Yes Sir."
Derek stopped and put the belt down before helping her stand up and held her close. She sobbed for a few minutes into his shoulder. When she calmed she pulled apart from him.
"You okay?" He asked. "Your shoulder?"
Lorelai nodded. "Yes sir."
"Sit. I will be back just going to give the paperwork to the director." He said
Lorelai sat with a cringe.
Derek grabbed the file with all the paperwork and brought it to the director and came back and got Lorelai.
They went out to his car and started the drive back to her place.
"Your dad come down on you yet?" He asked
"No. And I'm expecting a lecture from Spencer too." She said
"Ah. Has he ever really?" Derek asked
"He's told me off before but no never a full-on lecture." She said
"Well, he's pissed at me too if that helps." Derek said
"What? why?" Lorelai asked
"Because I sent JJ with you to the hospital not him." Morgan said
"Oh. I see." Lorelai said
"Would you have preferred him?" Derek asked
"Wasn't my call to make. I had no issue with it being JJ though." She said
"That wasn't my question." Derek said
"When it comes to work I try to keep things professional. Yes Spencer is my person. But at work… lets just say I am happy I have never had to choose between picking someone to save." She told him
Derek nodded. He pulled into her driveway. They both noticed Spencer's car in there.
"When will you be back at work?" he asked
"Couple weeks at least." She said
"Well, good luck with Spencer and Hotch I will see you when you do come back." Derek said
Lorelai sighed and nodded "See you than." She said as she got out and went inside.
She went in and found Spencer sitting at the table helping Rebecca with science homework and she smiled.
Aaron put a hand on her good shoulder.
Lorelai looked up and was led to the office.
"Don't disrupt. Spencer is being very helpful. I was trying to help her and didn't even understand the assignment.
Lorelai smirked and nodded.
"And wipe that smirk off your face. I am well aware he has more book smarts than me." Aaron said
Lorelai let out a small chuckle and cleared her throat making herself stop laughing. "Sorry. He is smarter than all of us."
"I don't know. I think you would give him a run for his money on book smarts." He said
She shrugged. "I don't know. I know I'm smart. I just don't think I am as smart as Spencer." She said
"Well, you are both smarter than me so if he can help her I wont stop him." He said
Lorelai nodded.
"So. You and I need to talk too." He said
Lorelai nodded. "I know."
He pointed to the chair in his office.
She sat down as he sat in his desk chair. "I don't think I need to tell you how stupid it was to ignore direct orders as your shoulder is evidence enough of how lucky you are to be sitting her and that I am not planning your funeral." He told her his voice clearly unhappy with his eldest daughter and youngest agent.
Lorelai nodded and looked down.
"Look at me." He said sternly
Lorelai took a breathe and looked back up at him
"And I don't think I need to tell you how technically I am breaking a promise I made if I don't fire you." He said
"Yes Sir." She said softly looking down again
"Lorelai. You look at me or I will be adding to what Morgan gave you." He told her
Lorelai looked back up quickly. "Sorry."
"Both Morgan and I have spoken to the director. You get to keep your job. But will be out of the field for six months." He said
"Six months?!" She said shock clear in her voice
"Do not argue with me Lorelai. You are lucky you are not losing your job" He said firmly
Lorelai took a breathe. "Yes Sir."
"When you are able to you will still fly with us and work the cases from inside police stations." He said. "And I do not want to hear you complaining about it or trying to do more. Is that understood?" He asked
"Yes sir." She said. She knew there was no getting out of this, she wasn't going to make it harder on herself than it already was.
"I'm not saying you have to like it, but you will obey it. Understood?" He asked
"Yes sir." She said again. "And trust me. I don't like it. But I don't think I'm supposed to."
"Well. No. It wouldn't be a very good punishment if you did." He said
Lorelai let out a huffed laugh. "No. I agree it wouldn't be."
"Okay. Well, that's the end of the lecture from me." He said
Lorelai nodded.
They hugged before she went off to find Spencer he had just finished up helping Rachel.
"Thank you Spencer." Rachel said
"Anytime." Spencer said
Lorelai smiled a bit at him. "Hi." She said
Spencer went over to her and gave her a hug.
Lorelai gave him a one-armed hug as she wasn't supposed to lift up her damaged shoulder.
"How's your shoulder?" He asked
"Its sore." She said
Spencer led her to her room. "Sit." He said as he closed the door to her room
Lorelai sat on her bed.
"Do you think it will hurt to much if I try to massage it?" Spencer asked
"Probably. But it might help too." She told him.
Spencer sat behind her on her bed. His legs crossed in front of him.
Lorelai unbuttoned her shirt and slide it off her shoulder giving him full access to her shoulder.
He started to rub at it gently.
"You know. I've always left the lecturing up to Hotch or whomever is team lead at the time." He said to her as he rubbed.
"Yes. I know." She said breathing through the discomfort because she knew it would help.
"Mostly because I figured they would be better at knocking some sense into you." He said
Lorelai chuckled a little.
"Its not funny Lorelai." He said sternly
"I'm sorry. You're right." She said. "But if I don't want to listen I'm not going to. Doesn't matter who is telling me what to do or what not to do." She told him
"So, you're saying. It doesn't matter if I lecture you it wont change a thing?" He said
"Spenc. I love you. But you are not as intimidating to me as Hotch, Morgan or Rossi. But that's not a bad thing." She told him
Spencer nodded and continued to rub.
"It doesn't mean I like when I upset you. Or disappoint you." She added after he didn't say anything.
"I know." He said.
"You don't have to worry about me for the next six months anyways. I am on desk work." She said
"Six months?" He asked
"Yup. It was that or lose my job." Lorelai said
"Wow. Well. I'm glad that something is being done to hopefully make you think twice the next time you are faced with following an order." He said
Lorelai nodded and whimpered a bit when Spencer started to rub a particularly sore spot.
Spencer stopped. "To much?" He asked
Lorelai nodded.
"Okay." He said. He kissed her shoulder and helped her get her shirt back on.
Lorelai smiled. "Thanks." She said
"Of course." He said
Lorelai buttoned her shirt back up.
Spencer moved so he was sitting in front of her.
She looked up at him.
"I need you to make me a promise and this one you have to keep." He told her
Lorelai nodded.
"Promise me you wont disobey a direct order again." Spencer said
"I don't know if I can…" Lorelai said
"Lorelai. You have to. Every time you end up in a situation like this. I think about how close I come to losing you. And I know it comes with the job that your at a higher risk. But you can minimize that risk by following orders." He told her
"Spencer. I love you. And because of that I cant make a promise to you I might not be able to keep." She said
"I love you too. Which is why I need you to take all the precautions you can to protect yourself." He said
"If I don't make this promise?" She asked him
Spencer sighed. "Than you and I are going to have to take a break." He said
"Spenc…. You cant be serious.." She said
"Lorelai. I love you. My heart just cant be in this if I have to worry about losing you every single time you go out in the field." He said
"You will still have that worry whether we are together or not." She said
"Yes. But I need to distance myself and the only way I can do that is if we aren't romantically involved." He said
Lorelai nodded. "Well, I cant make that promise. So, if you cant handle all of who I am than maybe its better if we take a break." She said. She stood up and went into her bathroom to get away from him.
Spencer sighed. This was the hardest thing for him to do. He went and knocked on the bathroom door. "I'm going to go. Maybe in a few days we can talk about this again." He said before he went downstairs. He said bye to everyone, and he left and went home.
