When they got home Aaron looked at Lorelai. "You and I are going to have a discussion." He told her
Lorelai looked up at him confused.
"Go change. And meet me in the office." He told her
Lorelai nodded and did as she was told. She want and changed out of her dress and into comfy clothing before heading down to the office.
Aaron changed as well and met her there.
They both sat down.
"I want to start with you're not in trouble." He said
"Good, Because I didn't do anything." Lorelai said
"No. You did something. Or are doing something." He said
Lorelai tilted her head.
"Spencer told me about the situation a few months back. Not eating. And how he has noticed you've lost weight since he last saw you. And that was just a week ago. We have already talked how I am concerned you haven't been eating this week. I assumed once your heart mends it might get better but given what I know now about the past situation I'm more concerned." Aaron told her
Lorelai sighed. "Dad. I'm fine. I admit that the situation before was bad. I have been careful and been eating. This week. Yes maybe I haven't been eating as much as usual. But I have been eating. I don't think I have lost weight. But I can verify that if it will makes you feel better."
Aaron nodded. "Maybe you have and don't realize it. I don't see it either, but I have seen you everyday since than."
"I will check. And if I have I will be more careful." She said.
"I know your hurting. And as much as I wish I could take that pain away. I cant. But you need to take care of yourself." Aaron said
"I know. I'm really sorry dad. I will be more careful." She said
Aaron nodded "You know you are going back to work soon. You cant avoid him forever."
Lorelai nodded. "I will be fine at work. I have always been able to separate things work and personal when it comes to Spencer." She said
"Okay. But what about your friendship?" He asked
"Spencer ruined that. I can work with him and have his back if the need be, but we are no longer friends." She said
Aaron let out a breathe. "Lorelai. Come on. You know you still love him."
"I don't. Not anymore." She said
Aaron sighed. "Okay. If you really feel that way." He knew she was lying but he couldn't force her to admit that. "As long as you can keep things professional at work and as long as you take care of yourself that's all I care about." He said
Lorelai nodded. "I can do both those things. Promise."
"Okay. But know I'm going to be keeping a close eye on you." Aaron said
"Understood." She said
"Now did you eat enough at the party?" He asked
"Yes dad. You saw me eating." She said
"Yes. But not much." He said
"Okay fair. But I admit seeing Spencer wasn't easy. So, I wasn't all that hungry." She said. "But I promise I'll eat if I'm hungry."
Aaron nodded. "Please do. How's the shoulder?" He asked
"Still pretty sore. Think I might have pushed it to much setting up for the party." She told him honestly
Aaron sighed and raised an eyebrow.
"I know. I'm sorry." She said
"Pain level?" He asked
"2…" she said clearly lying
"Try again." He said
"Fine a 6." She said still lying
"Strike two lie to me again and you wont like what I do." He said sternly
Lorelai sighed "Okay. Fine an 8."
"Do you have any pain killers left?" he asked
"No. I was using the leftover from last injury. Wasn't many left." She said
"I will be right back." He got up and went to the freezer and grabbed an icepack and brought it back to her. "Is it swollen?" he asked
Lorelai put the ice pack on her shoulder. "Not sure." She said
Aaron nodded. "Can I see?" He asked
Lorelai took the ice pack off and moved the sleeve off her shoulder so he could see it.
Aaron took a look. "Yes. It is very swollen. I think we should go back to the hospital. Get you some pain killers. Maybe something that can reduce the swelling. And make sure you didn't reinjure it."
"Dad…" she said
"Lorelai. You promised to take care of yourself. This is part of that right?" He asked
She took a breathe. "Yes. Your right. But I don't want you to have to call someone for the kids. I'll go myself."
Aaron took a breathe. "You cant drive with your shoulder like that."
"I'll call Emily. Ask her to take me?" Lorelai offered
Aaron nodded. "Deal."
Lorelai texted Emily who told her she would be there to take her.
Lorelai went out to Emily's car when she got there.
"Thanks. I wouldn't bug you, but my dad wouldn't let me take myself and I didn't want him to have to call Rebecca to come watch the kids." Lorelai said
"You're not bugging me. I'm glad to help." Emily said as she drove. "What happen though?"
"I overexerted my shoulder. Did to much I think." She said
"Oh." She said. "Pain bad?"
"An 8 out of 10 and apparently it looked swollen to my dad. I did notice it started to hurt when I was putting up the decorations for the party this afternoon" She said
"Why didn't you ask for help?" Emily asked
"Because I was too stubborn." Lorelai said
Emily chuckled and shook her head and pulled up in the hospital
The two of them went inside and Lorelai explained the situation to the check in nurse.
She was checked in and she and Emily went and sat in the waiting room.
"So how are you?" Emily asked
Lorelai sighed "I'm getting through it. I will be fine."
"Oh, you will be. I am sure of it. But doesn't mean you don't need your friends around. How about we do another girls night? Some crappy movies and good wine?" She offered
"Urg. That sounds perfect. But if I'm given any pain killers tonight I wont be able to drink at all." Lorelai said
"Well than maybe go out for some good food?" Emily asked
Lorelai smiled and nodded. "Perfect."
Lorelai was called in and told the doctor the situation. The doctor looked at her shoulder
"Yup. Its badly swollen." He said. "We should get an ultrasound make sure you didn't rip and sutures." He said
"Okay." Lorelai said
She was taken for ultrasound and Emily waited and texted the girls. 'Girls night. Tomorrow night. We all need it.' She sent to Penny, JJ, & Becca
They all messaged back that it sounded great
Lorelai came back about 45mins later and was flirting with the transport guy. Emily bit her tongue to keep herself from saying anything.
Lorelai was handed a piece of paper. "Call me. We can go see that movie maybe." The guy said
Lorelai smiled. "I will do that."
The two transport people left the room and Lorelai looked at Emily. "Really?" Emily asked
"What am I not allowed to move on?" Lorelai asked
"Of course, you are. But are you sure you're ready for that?" Emily said
"I'm not looking for some intense relationship. Just someone to spend time with. Go to a movie." Lorelai said
"Okay. But don't do anything you're not ready for okay?" Emily said
"I wont." Lorelai said
The doctor came back in. "You are damn lucky. Its just irritated from the overexertion." He said gently scolding her
Lorelai nodded.
"You need to relax it. Don't lift it above your head. Ice it." He said
Lorelai nodded.
"I know you are hesitant to painkillers. Do you want any?" He asked
Lorelai took a breathe. "Probably should. Over the counter stuff hasn't been helping." She said
"I will give you something a bit stronger than over the counter pain killers but nothing to strong." He said
Lorelai nodded. "Thank you."
"And do you have anything to help with the swelling? Were you given anything after you had surgery?" He asked
"Yes. I've um… got some." She said
"You haven't been taking them have you?" Emily asked
Lorelai sighed. "No…"
"Well start taking them." The doctor said. "It is very important to the healing."
"Yes doctor." Lorelai said
"She will take them." Emily said giving her a look.
Emily didn't often get stern with anyone so the fact that she was giving Lorelai her look of disappointment meant she was annoyed.
"I will. Promise." She said
The doctor nodded and handed her a prescription for the pain killers.
She was told she could go. They went out and Emily took her to the pharmacy to get her pain killers. On the way there they were quiet
Lorelai took a breathe. "Go ahead. Say it."
"Lorelai. You're not stupid. You knew you were supposed to be taking those. Why weren't you?" Emily asked
"I don't know. I was… My heart was hurting. I thought if the shoulder pain could distract me from that." She said. "I know it was stupid." She added quickly
"Really. Stupid." Emily said
Lorelai nodded. "I am getting over that stupidity I swear. I will take them as I am supposed to."
Emily nodded. "You better." She pulled in at the pharmacy. Lorelai went inside and got the prescription filled and came back out and back into Emily's car. Emily drove her back to her place and looked at her when she pulled in.
"Do I need to make sure you tell your dad about this, or will you promise me you will take them as you should?" Emily asked
Lorelai looked at her. "I promise Emily."
Emily nodded. "Okay. Go on get some rest. Tomorrow night girls night. I've already asked the others. Mazi's tomorrow night."
Lorelai smiled. Since her birthday they had gone there several times for girls nights. It was a favorite place for them. "Sounds good."
"But if your not following doctors orders I will cancel it." Emily warned
Lorelai chuckled. "Okay. I get it. I will do what I've been told."
"Good." Emily said
"Thank you for taking me." Lorelai said
"Of course. Anytime." Emily said.
Lorelai got out and went inside. It was dark. Only light she saw was from the living room. She went and peaked in seeing her dad reading a case file.
Aaron looked up. "How did it go?"
"Alright. Had an ultrasound done. Just irritated it with doing to much. Was given pain killers." She said holding them up with her good arm.
"Good. Anything for the swelling?" He asked
Lorelai sighed. "I have something the doctor gave me after surgery. Haven't been taking it as I should. But I will now. I promise. Emily already told me off for it."
Aaron sighed and nodded.
"I know. I'm sorry I've disappointed you." Lorelai said her voice shaky
Aaron stood up and wrapped her in a hug. "Hey. I know you've been going though a hard time."
Lorelai hugged him. Holding back tears.
"As long as you start doing what your supposed to I'm not going to get upset with you." He said
Lorelai nodded. "I promise daddy."
Aaron hugged tighter. He knew she only called him daddy when she was completely and utterly shattered.
Lorelai broke down sobbing into him.
Aaron moved with her to the couch where they both sat down. Aaron just held her. She sobbed herself to sleep in his arms.
When she was asleep Aaron laid her down on the couch and grabbed the blanket on the back of it and covered her.
Aaron hated seeing her like this, but he knew she would get through it. He went back to working on a cold case that had come across his desk just a couple days before.
