It had been a couple weeks since Lorelai and Spencer had gotten back together. There had been charges pressed against Wren and everything from that was being put behind her. Spencer had been thinking about the conversation of her first sketch book. And he wondered if maybe that woman hadn't thrown it out. He knew if that sketchbook still existed it was likely in evidence at the police station in Lorelai's hometown.

He didn't tell anyone what he was doing but that weekend he told Lorelai he had to handle something out of town, and he flew out to Small Town Idaho. He went to the police station and looked around. At lot had changed since they had last been here. Clearly they had done some updating. He asked for the Captain, and he was led by an officer to his office.

"Captain Duluth?" Spencer asked

The Captain looked up from his desk

"Hello. I'm Dr. Reid. FBI agent. Need a favor." He said showing his badge before extending his hand

The Captain stood up and shook his hand. "How can I help you?" he asked

"I'm sure you are aware of this towns sorted history. I work with the team that came in to help the children in that foster home." Spencer told him. "I was wondering if the evidence that had been collected from that home was here and if I could take a look for something for one of the girls that were in that home. Something that had been… misplaced." Spencer said

The Captain nodded. "Yes. I am aware of what happened in the town. I've been working very hard to change this town. Fix the drug and alcohol problems." He said "Misplaced?" He asked his eyebrow raised.

"Okay. Something that had been taking from one of the girls by the woman who was running the foster home." Spencer said

"What exactly?" He asked

"A sketchbook." Spencer told him the truth

The Captain nodded. "I'll show you to the evidence room. But its very disorganized you might not be able to find it."

"I have the try." Spencer said

The Captain led him there. "So. This girl must be pretty important to you."

Spencer smiled. "Very."

The Captain nodded and showed him the room. "This wouldn't happen to be the young woman who became an FBI agent would it?"

Spencer chuckled and nodded.

"Agent Davies. I have met her." The Captain said.

"Its not Davies anymore. I don't know if you know the full situation, but she was adopted and took her dad's last name. Its Hotchner now" Spencer told him

The Captain smiled and nodded. He pointed to a line of boxes. "These are supposed to be all from that foster home."

"Thank you." Spencer said

"I'll see if I can find a couple spare officers to help you out." He said

"Thank you. But if not I understand." Spencer said

The Captain nodded and left the room.

Spencer started to dig through the dozens of boxes that were in front of him. His heart broke at some of the things he found. Old stuffed animals. Broken toys. Clothes that clearly shouldn't have been kept. He kept looking through the boxes. He was in there a couple hours before an officer came in.

"Agent Reid?" The officer said. "I've been told you might need help."

Spencer looked up at the young officer and nodded. "Thanks. Just trying to find a sketch book. From the old foster home that was here." He said. "I've looked in the boxes that are on the ground."

The officer went and started to help him. "I was told this is in the matter of love?" The younger man asked

Spencer chuckled and nodded. "I'm with one of the women who use to be in that home. She had a sketch book taken away from her when she was very young. Possibly was just thrown away. But I know if I can find it. It will make her very happy." He said

The two kept looking. They had gone though all by one box. Spencer sighed. "Either we are going to get really lucky or its really not here." Spencer said. He took the last box off the shelf and opened it. He sighed and shook his head at the officer. "Just a couple toys." He told him

The officer gave him a small smile. "Sorry man."

Spencer shook his head. "Thank you. For the help."

"Of course." The officer said as the two put the boxes back on the shelves.

"There is a chance it is somewhere else in here. I know this place needs some serious organization." The officer said

"Yes your Captain mentioned that." Spencer said

"It will be a big task to look through them all though. And I'm sure you have better things to do." Spencer said

The officer let out a breathe. "Its late. Come back tomorrow. We will find it."

Spencer nodded. He went to a hotel nearby for the night. The next morning, he got up early and went to the station. The Captain had arranged for several of the officers to help search and organize the evidence room. It needed to be done and this was a good reason to get it done. That town and former law enforcement had failed the girls in that home and if they could find that sketchbook and help one of them the Captain was willing.

There was a group of about eight who went through all the boxes. Matching them up with records of what should be in each box. They worked all day. It was getting late, and Spencer had a flight in just a couple hours if he wanted to be back for work the following morning. He took a box off a shelf. It was from a case over 30 years ago. Spencer opened it. Sitting on top of a pile of documents was a sketchbook. He took the sketchbook out and turned to the back of the book. At the bottom of the inside of the back cover was the name Lorelai Davies it was faded but he could still see it.

"I found it…" He announced to the room

Everyone stopped and looked up. Smiles spread across all their faces.

The Captain came over. He had come to help out a couple hours previous. "You sure it's the one your looking for?"

Spencer showed him the name.

The Captain smiled. "Go home. And give it to her."

"But after all you've done. I want to help you finish this." Spencer said

"No. That's okay. Your girl I'm sure is waiting for you." The Captain said. "You have done more than enough for this town."

Spencer smiled. "Thank you all. I will never be able to thank you enough."

They all smiled and told him to get going. Spencer left and went to the hotel to check out and grab his stuff before heading to the airport and flying home.
