At the restaurant they all sat down.
"So, I've heard from Lorelai some thing about you. You work with her. That you are very intelligent. And one of the best thing to happen to her. But not much else." Matt said
Lorelai chuckled. "Interrogating my boyfriend?"
"And you see why I tell him nothing about the people I am dating." Hannah said
"I'm sorry there has been more than one?" Matt asked his daughter
"No comment." Hannah said with a smirk.
Matt shook his head. "Did you grow up in DC?" he turned his attention back to Spencer.
"No. Nevada. Los Vegas area." He said
"Your parents?" He asked
"Father not in my life. Mother is still there yes." Spencer said. "I try to get out there a few times a year."
"You've met his mother?" Matt asked Lorelai
"Yes. Once. Um. She seemed to like me fine." Lorelai said not wanting to get into the deep stuff right now.
"She loves you." Spencer said
Lorelai smiled abit and nodded.
"You don't think so." Matt said.
Lorelai sighed. "Well. I don't think she was to thrilled when she saw my history shared on the news."
"Did you ever confront the person who did that?" Hannah asked
"Wait, You know who did that?" Matt and Spencer both asked at the same thing
Lorelai sighed. "Thanks Hannah."
"Sorry…." Hannah said
"Who?" Spencer asked
"Can we talk about this later. Please." She said
"Your dad doesn't know either." Matt asked
Lorelai shook her head. "No."
The waitress came over to get their drink orders.
Matt & Spencer ordered an alcoholic drink. Hannah got a lemonade and Lorelai got a sweet tea.
"You don't drink?" Matt asked
"I do occasionally. But a few months ago, I had an issue with an ulcer." She said
"Wait did you never tell them about that?" Spencer asked
"All my secrets coming out tonight apparently." Lorelai said
Matt raised an eyebrow
"I had to have surgery when an ulcer decided to bleed." Lorelai said.
"For an ulcer to get that bad…. What was going on?" Matt asked
"You heard of the FBI agent being held hostage in her home with her brother and sister and the nanny?" Lorelai asked
"Yes." Matt said.
"That was me. Held hostage by a former friend. The bad boy I fell for when I was young." Lorelai said
"And you choose not to tell me? How many times have we talked since than?" Matt asked
"Several. I'm sorry. I just didn't want you to worry." Lorelai said
"You told me you would call and tell him." Spencer said
"Yeah. I did intent to. I just. I didn't." Lorelai said
"Hannah did you know about any of this?" Matt asked
"No. I didn't. I wish I had known about you being in the hospital. I would have come visit." Hannah said
"You are busy with a double major. You don't have the time to worry about that." Lorelai said
"And you have a busy life and still find the time to call me three times a week." Hannah said she was clearly upset.
"I'm sorry. To both of you. I should have told you both about being in the hospital." Lorelai said
"You healed up okay?" Matt asked
"Yes. I was out of work for a few weeks. And I have to be careful about what I eat and drink." She said
He nodded.
She looked at Hannah. "I'm sorry."
Hannah nodded. "I guess I cant really be mad… I should have told you about the guy."
"Lets make a deal. We tell each other things like this in the future." Lorelai said
Hannah nodded. "Deal."
She looked up at her uncle. "And I will tell you things more too."
"Thank you." Matt said
The ordered and ate their food while they talked.
The waitress came over and asked how the bill should be divided. And both Spencer and Matt quickly said "One bill."
"Allow me. Please." Matt said
"How often do I get to take my girlfriends uncle and cousin out for dinner." Spencer said
Lorelai look at the waitress. "I'm sorry about them. One bill they will have it decided by the time you get back." She said
The waitress went. And Hannah chuckled
"If you to cant decide I will be paying" Lorelai said
Spencer caved and let Matt pay.
The night came to an end. Lorelai gave her uncle a hug.
"You stay out of trouble." He told her
Lorelai smiled. "I cant get in trouble and get away with it."
"Well now that you know your tell you might be able to." He said
"Wait what? She knows her tell?" Spencer asked
Lorelai chuckled. "Yup. He let it slip."
Matt shook his head. "I did unfortunately."
"Wait. Can I know my tell than?" Hannah asked
"No. You can not." Matt said
Hannah looked at Lorelai. "Yeah. I'm not going to tell you either."
Matt and Spencer shook hands. Lorelai and Spencer went to his car and Matt took Hannah back to her dorm.
"What is your tell than?" Spencer asked
"Why are you asking me? You know." Lorelai said
"I do." He said.
"Than you tell me?" Lorelai said
"No. You need to tell me." Spencer said
"Guess that means I have more than one." She said with a smirk
Spencer sighed. "Yes. You do. I need to know which one you know."
"Nope." Lorelai said with a smirk
"Lorelai. Please." He said
"Why do you need to know?" She asked
"You know why. And you can tell me, or I can ask your dad." Spencer said
"Fine." Lorelai said. "it's the fidgeting thing"
"Well, that is the main one." Spencer said
They were quiet for a bit.
"There is something I need to tell you." Lorelai said as they pulled into her driveway
"Okay." Spencer said. He parked and looked at her.
"There was more than one reason I wasn't drinking tonight." She said
"Oh?" Spencer asked
"I found out a couple days ago. I'm pregnant." Lorelai said
Spencer's eyes lit up. "Really?"
"I wouldn't make that up." Lorelai said. "Yes. About four weeks along. When I went for my checkup for surgery it was a standard test they did. It was verified with a blood test." She added with a small smile
He got out and went around and opened her door. Lorelai got out. And Spencer picked her up and spun her kissing her.
"I will be telling my dad tonight. You are welcome to be with me. I would like to wait to tell the others till I'm further along. I'm only telling my dad because I will no longer be doing field work that could put this baby at risk." Lorelai said
Spencer nodded and smiled. They both went inside. Lorelai made sure the two kids were busy before she went to her dads office where he was.
"Hey dad. Spencer and I would like to talk to you." She said
"Okay." He said.
They both went and sat on the couch in the office and Aaron turned his chair to look at him.
"We aren't telling anyone else right now. But I want to tell you as my dad before I have to tell you as my boss." Lorelai said
Aaron tilted his head.
"I'm requesting that I be out of any dangerous field work. For the sake of the baby." Lorelai said with a smile.
Aaron was surprised. "You're pregnant?" He asked
Lorelai nodded.
Aaron smiled "That's amazing. And yes. You can be out of the field if you want." He said
He opened his arms and Lorelai went and hugged him.
Aaron stood up and he and Spencer hugged as well.
"Congratulations to you both." He said
"Thank you." They both said
"Now remember you're the only one who knows. I want to keep it that way till I'm further along." She said
Aaron nodded. "My lips are sealed. How far along are you?" He asked
"About four weeks. I don't have any symptoms yet. I only know because I had to do a test when I went to the hospital for follow up on my ulcer. It was verified by blood test." She said
Aaron nodded. "Okay."
"You left this by your desk." Aaron said pointing to the box.
"Oh wow. With everything going on. I forgot." She sat back down.
"What is it?" Aaron asked
"Not sure. It is from Delilah. It was willed to me." She said
Spencer sat next to her.
Aaron sat back down. "You want us here when you open it?"
Lorelai nodded.
Aaron handed her a box cutter from his desk.
"Careful." He said
Lorelai set the box on the ground and cut away from herself to open the box before handing the cutters back to her dad.
She opened it. On the top was a stuffed penguin. Lorelai chuckled. "I remember this. I tried to steal it from her on more than one occasion." She set it aside. There was a letter that she put aside. She would read it later. And there were three photo albums.
"Oh boy. I know what these are." She said
"What?" Aaron asked
"When I saw her the last time. I asked her if she had an pictures of me. As a baby. With my mother." She said. "She told me she had three albums." Lorelai said
Spencer put and arm around her and gave her a hug. "You okay?" He asked
"I don't know." Lorelai said
"Do you want to look at them right now?" Aaron asked
She nodded. "I need to." She grabbed the one on top. And set it in her lap. She opened it up.
The first picture was her newborn picture in the hospital.
"Wow there is no mistaking that is you." Aaron said
"Yup. That scowl." Spencer said
Lorelai looked at Spencer with a scowl.
"Yup. That one." Aaron said
"Shut up. Both of you." She said tears in her eyes.
"Sorry." They both said.
They looked through the album.
"Your mother was a beautiful woman." Aaron said.
"Yeah. You definitely look like her." Spencer said
Lorelai nodded.
"But you are so much stronger than she was. And you are going to be the best mother." Spencer said
"I hope so." Lorelai said
"I know so." Aaron said
"You both need to make me a promise." She said
"Anything." Spencer said
"If something happens. If I start drinking or doing drugs. Or just are not a good mother. You keep this child from me." She said
"Lorelai. There is not one fiber of my being that thinks you will be anything but an amazing mother." Spencer said
"I don't care. I need you to promise me that this child will come first." Lorelai said
The men both looked at each other.
"If you two do not promise me this I swear to god." She said
"Okay. I promise." Spencer said, "But I will not need to do that."
Lorelai nodded and looked at her dad.
"I promise if you become a risk to the baby I will interfere." Aaron said
"Thank you." Lorelai said
She finished with the one album. "And I think that's all I can take for tonight."
Spencer kissed her head. "You look exhausted. You need to sleep for two now." He said
"Oh boy. Double protective now right?" She said
Spencer smiled. "Yes. And I would stay the night to ensure you get to bed soon but I have something I need to take care of at home." He said
"I promise I will go to bed soon." She said
Spencer kissed her and headed out.
Lorelai looked at her dad. "I have a question. I normally wouldn't ask. Because I know you don't like to discuss it with me, but I have to know."
"Okay." Aaron said
"I heard you on the phone. Sounded like a romantic conversation. And I heard a name." Lorelai said
"Oh. What name?" Aaron asked
"Emily." Lorelai said
Aaron took a breathe. "Well, I guess its out." He said
Lorelai squeed and jumped up and hugged him. "Its about damn time."
"Excuse me?" Aaron asked with a raised eyebrow
Lorelai chuckled. "Well. Um. We. Um. I."
"Stop with the rambling." He said
Lorelai sat back down. "A few of us have seen the chemistry from early on. I saw it from day one.
"Really?" Aaron asked, "Who else?" he asked
"Nope. Wont be giving away that." Lorelai said. "I'm going to shower and go to bed. The baby is demanding it." She said as she got up and left the office with a smirk.
"You keep that to yourself." He called out
"Okay." Lorelai agreed and went off. She showered and went to bed. She was happy for several reasons that night and she slept well because of it.
