Back with another chapter. Also, I had an error when I wrote I would include Christophsis, but given that it actually happened before the other episodes, so the first major engagement the UN will see will be the battle of Ryloth which will cover 2-3 chapters, then I'll write the first CIS against UN exclusive battle which will be multiple chapters.
NB this is my rewritten story. So I'll reply to few reviews:
Blue-Jay1009: Yes, you will see more and more clone-UN interactions soon. I will also confirm there will be clone defectors to the UN, as you will see in the future.
DarthJacob1: The UN ended death sentences in military courts, and you can only be tried to death in a judicial court. This means it will be complicated to execute these leaders. Also I don't plan to rewrite the entire plot of The Clone Wars to be Republic bashing, and you're not meant to execute foreign senators, no matter how corrupt they are. So don't hope to see enormous amounts of UN interference in Republic affairs, however you will see the UN dealing with some of the more corrupt senators.
To say that Obi Wan Kenobi had been confused by the appearance of Phoenix Squad on Rishi Moon Outpost would be an understatement. However, something told the Jedi that he should've been expecting this.
A few weeks ago, the Republic had encountered the remains of a Separatist patrol. While some of the ships had showed signs of damage from lasers, most damage had been caused by explosives and what had appeared to be giant slug throwers. They had concluded that it had not been the work of anyone in the galaxy. But the admiral he had talked to from the foreign ship had mentioned that his nation had been at war with the Separatists, so could that have been them?
Cody, Rex and the shinnies who had been evacuated from the outpost had spoken of 8 armoured individuals who had shown above average strength, speed, reflexes and intelligence, and also possessed technology that rivalled and perhaps even surpassed their own.
Watching the small amount of footage that the clones had managed to gather before the outpost was destroyed, Obi-wan was surprised by the skill of the individuals of 'Jinhai', 'Maia', 'Katrina' and 'Jack'. Their skills could surpass some of the Jedi and were able to hold off entire droves of droids for long periods of time. Obi-wan thought that if all 8 of the individuals had been there, they would have perhaps destroyed all of the droids.
The sound of the engines of the LAAT turning off brought Obi-wan's attention back to his surroundings. The doors of the LAAT opened up revealed a modern, well-lit bay with dozens of aircraft taxied in the hangar bay. Crew members rushed about, maintaining aircraft, while a cylindrical glass elevator moved up and down, ferrying supplies and crewmen. As Obi-wan, Anakin, Rex and Cody left the LAAT, they were approached by a man dressed in an admiral's uniform, flanked by two guards dressed in black armour.
"Greetings, I am Admiral Johnathan Mason, commander of the 6th Space Fleet of the United Nations Military Command. You must be Generals Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and Commander Cody and Captain Rex. We can discuss matters on the bridge," said the man.
"Very well, we have many questions for you," noted Obi-Wan.
Anakin meanwhile was admiring the air assortment of the hangar. "Admiral, if I may ask, how many aircraft can fit into this hangar?", he asked, gesturing towards a taxied AFA-XX.
"Around 430 aircraft at maximum capacity, but the carriers have far more than that, perhaps around 700," replied Mason, leading the Jedi and clones towards the elevator.
The elevator was more like a pod, tunnelling through the passages of the ship. This allowed the Jedi and clones to be able to catch views of long hallways with crew members pacing up and down, soldiers standing on guard and troops firing at moving targets in the firing range, until the small, rounded glass pod smoothly stopped. The glass doors slid open, allowing the 5 humans to step onto the bridge.
"I expected more bridge crew," noted Obi-wan.
"I actually handle most of the operations here," a British accented male voice exclaimed, causing the visitors to jump slightly. A hologram of a blue figure dressed in a naval uniform appeared on the holo-table in the middle of the room. "Apologies if I startled you. I'm Colin, the AI which runs the operations on this ship."
"And he also has one poor sense of humour," chuckled Mason.
"I heard that!"
"Sir, incoming transmission from the Council," said one of the bridge crew.
"Patch them through," replied Mason. A few moments later, the holograms of General-Secretary Khumalo, Prime Minister Parker, President Franklin and President Ziemiak appeared.
"Apologies Admiral, the others are unavailable at the moment," said Khumalo.
"Acknowledged General-Secretary, we've met some Jedi to help start diplomatic discussions," said Mason. Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker then stepped forward.
"Greetings gentlemen, I am General Obi-wan Kenobi, with me is my former padawan General Anakin Skywalker. We and the Republic are extremely grateful for your intervention in saving the lives of Republic soldiers and protecting our territory from the CIS," said Obi-wan.
"We hope to establish diplomatic relations soon, and we'll get in contact with Coruscant," added Anakin.
"Very well," replied Khumalo, "We hope to establish a firm alliance with the Republic soon. If you give us access to communications with your leaders then perhaps we can further discussion then."
"I'll transmit the codes to you," stated Obi-wan, with a bridge officer handing him a pad with Galactic Basic on it to send the codes.
"Well, good luck, and we'll be deploying more of our forces soon. Till then," responded Parker. With that, the 4 leaders disappeared, and the holo-call ended.
"I have no doubt that your superiors will come to contact you soon. So while we wait, may I give you a tour of the ship?" requested Mason.
"Of course," replied Anakin, and the Admiral led the Jedi and clones off the bridge and back to the transport pod.
The pod stopped at the firing range the Jedi Generals had seen earlier, which when they entered turned out to be a complex of training rooms. Various cadets, marines and shield troopers were sparring, reading manuals, watching demonstrations, taking part in simulated fights or shooting targets.
Rex and Cody noticed a shield trooper in dark blue with a crimson red phoenix around the helmet he was holding and patterned black flames on the side of his armour, talking to another shield trooper who wore dark green and two black swords on his front and back, whom they recognised as Jinhai and Jiro. Rex was first to approach.
"I recognise you two from Rishi. You're Jinhai and Jiro," said Rex. The two troopers turned to look at Cody and Rex. Jiro nodded.
"You got that right."
"We'd like to thank you again for protecting Kamino. Had Rishi fallen, the Seppies would've gotten a clear shot at Kamino," says Cody.
"Just doing our job sir. Soldiers serve to protect. We fight battle others can't, and protect our rights and values," replied Jinhai.
"You mind telling us about your times as soldiers? I bet you have some stories to tell," noted Rex.
Jiro grinned. "You have no idea."
"Come on Maia! You can do it!"
"Na, Anakin's got this."
"That's garbage, Barden."
"Supporting your girlfriend, eh?"
"Well ye-goddammit Emilia! For the last time she's not my girlfriend!"
"Whatever you say, Jack," Barden teased good-naturedly as he rolled his eyes. Jack simply huffed in annoyance as both Emilia and Eitan chuckled. The two were really close, and Jack did one admit that he did have feelings for her.
Maia had challenged Anakin to a sabre duel while the Jedi and clones were waiting aboard the UHS Dreadnought. Everyone else was chatting.
Anakin raised his sapphire blade to block the cyan blade aimed at his chest. Using his strength, Anakin managed to push Maia back, although it was difficult, and the Jedi was tiring out due to the greater physical strength of his opponent.
Something which did not go unnoticed by Maia. She began to press the offensive, slashing and jabbing with great speed and ferocity, forcing Anakin to block attack after attack.
The platforms began to shift as suddenly the platforms separated, forming floating steppingstones between the two expert sword wielders. Undaunted, Maia began leaping across the platforms towards Anakin.
That was when Anakin noticed an opening. A slight mispositioning in the arm. Anakin grinned and went for it, batting the blade aside with such speed that Maia was caught off guard and forced onto the defensive. Then, she flipped onto another platform, which began moving again, shuffling around like a pack of cards.
Calling upon the Force to guide him, Anakin leapt from platform to platform, managing to land on a platform opposite her. Both opponents grinned as the platforms began to merge.
Anakin was faster. Feinting an attack from above, he then quickly got under her guard, disarming her of her blade before kicking Maia back.
"Ok, you win," sighed Maia, admitting defeat.
"You fought well. Many Jedi would be jealous of your swordsmanship," commented Anakin as Maia recollected her blade.
"I'll beat you one day you know," chuckled Maia.
"That remains to be seen," grinned Anakin as they stepped out of the platform.
As the two young adults were talking, Jinhai was talking to Cody about shield troopers.
"So shield troopers are formed into squads?"
"Well, there are actually two types. Type 1 Shield Troopers are usually organised into companies. They're deployed when special heavy firepower is needed. Type 2 Shield Troopers, like myself and Phoenix Squad, are special ops units. Phoenix is a heavy firepower squad, essentially one-squad armies tasked with infiltration and high-risk missions. There's also hostage crisis, retrieval and rescue squads or HCRR Squads such as Firefly and Mamba, water warfare such as Whirlpool and Tornado Squads, all-terrain squads such as Polar and Iceberg, espionage squads and airborne warfare squads, though they are rarer. There's also Type 3 Shield Troopers, they're essentially the most elite and are dubbed the Knights of Terra."
"Mason, we've got some news from Toronto. The United Nation Executive Council has established contact with the Republic, and an official alliance has been established. Admiral Volkov will be in charge of diplomatic expedition," announced Colin.
"Good to know we'll be serving alongside you soon," said Jinhai to Anakin.
"Likewise," grinned Anakin.
UHS Kirov, 2 days later
Admiral Timur Volkov stepped onto the bridge of his flagship, the UHS Kirov. It was the latest of the Missouri-class battleships to be in service, with the UHS New Jersey and UHS Repulse still under construction, and the UHS Bismarck and UHS Tirpitz undergoing trials for commissioning. As a veteran of the Human-Covenant War, Volkov still remembered the Ares-class battleships of the Human-Covenant War. Their class was beginning to be decommissioned, with only the UHS Athena and UHS Artemis still planned for use in the long term. The Missouri-class had only been built towards the end of the war and were pivotal in destroying the Covenant.
"Admiral's on the bridge!" shouted the captain. All bridge crew snapped to attention.
"At ease," Volkov told them, and they quickly returned to their tasks. Turning to his captain, he asked, "Time till end of the SlipSpace run?"
"1 minute sir," replied the captain. Volkov simply nodded in response.
Turning back to watch the blue ripples of SlipSpace around them, Volkov remembered the last time he had been in SlipSpace. They were on the way to destroy the last remnant of the Covenant Storm. He still vividly remembered the constant barrage of green plasma which had hammered against the shields, shaking the ship violently as both sides attempted to overwhelm the other. Volkov's battleship was being whittled down, and as he prepared for the worse, a Missouri-class battleship had dropped out of SlipSpace and simply tore through the Covenant lines with its prototype antimatter cannon and heavy laser batteries. It was certainly a sight to behold.
His journey down memory lane was abruptly stopped by the ship pulling out of SlipSpace, revealing Coruscant and a large fleet of Venators stationed to protect it.
Volkov stared at Coruscant for some time, trying to process the enormous ecumenopolis. The UN had outlawed such large-scale construction due to the damage it did to the environment.
This is going to raise a few UN eyebrows, thought Volkov.
"Unidentified vessel, this is Coruscant Command. Identify yourselves," came the voice of a clone through the intercom.
"Coruscant Command, this is Admiral Timur Volkov of the United Nation Space Fleet, aboard the UHS Kirov. We are here to proceed further diplomatic discussion with the Jedi Council. Barr, our ship's AI, has transmitted the clearance codes," replied Volkov.
"UHS Kirov, you are cleared to proceed," came the reply.
"Prepare the AX-24 Landing Gunship and notify the diplomats. It's time to go," announced Volkov.
The group was composed of the diplomats and guards, composed of Lieutenant Robert Parker, Corporal Matthew Rader and Privates Petra Meyer and Toby Winters of Dragon Squad and 6 Spetsnav commandos. The diplomatic team was composed of 3 UN diplomats, personal bodyguards and other ambassadorial staff. Also amongst them were 4 UNIA (United Nation Intelligence Agency) agents, who would be keeping tabs on the Republic. The UN disapproved of the use of clone soldiers by the Republic, and suspected that something was up with the Republic
Having received the go-ahead, the group proceeded to board the gunship, which roared to life and plunged into the vacuum of space as it headed towards Coruscant's atmosphere. The group inside the gunship took time to admire the architecture of the city, especially the Jedi Temple and Senate Building.
"5 minutes till landing," announced the pilot, as the gunship drew closer to the jedi Temple. Finally, the gunship stopped descending and halted, hovering over the landing pad outside the Senate for a moment before finally touching the ground.
As the craft opened, the diplomatic team and their guards stepped out, where they were greeted by the Temple guards. They wore white armour with golden patterns with a white cloak over the armour.
"Welcome, you must be the diplomatic team from Terra," said the lead guard. "Come with us."
Two more Jedi guards followed the leader as he led the diplomats and guards down the hallways to the Jedi Council chamber while the others stayed in the gunship to be flown off to the recently constructed Terran embassy. As they reached the entrance, the shield troopers broke off with 3 of the Spetsnav commandos to wait outside, while the other 3 Spetsnav accompanied the 3 diplomats into the council chamber.
Upon entering, the group was met with a circle of Jedi sitting in red chairs, with some present in holographic form. They were amid discussing something but quietened down upon seeing the diplomats. Yoda was the first to greet them.
"Greetings, Terran friends. Heard of the alliance, we have. Hope for good relations, we do. Many questions, we have. Approach the Galactic Senate, you did not. Strange, it seems."
"The United Nations of Terra shares the same sentiments, Grandmaster Yoda. We chose to talk with the Jedi Council due to the amount of corruption in the Galactic Senate and decided it would be safer to talk with a group of people of high importance in the Republic whom we could trust. That's why we turned to the Jedi," replied one of the diplomats. This stunned some of the Jedi in the room, as they realised the UN may have been watching them for far longer than they knew.
"A wise decision, you made," Yoda stated.
"Could you perhaps give us some reasoning behind your intervention against the Separatists?" asked Mace Windu.
"Well, there are several reasons. The first is the most obvious. We were attacked by the Separatists, effectively beginning a state of war against them. Secondly, further investigation into the Separatists revealed information which heavily opposed morals and ideals of the Charter of Terra. This was the charter created after the end of World War 3, which the nations of Terra swore to protect equality, justice and freedom written in the Charter, both domestically and internationally," replied the third diplomat, bringing up a video via hologram of various Separatist crimes, such as trying to test a superweapon on neutral citizens, funding criminal groups and the Malevolence attacking medical stations. "Many of these acts already breached the rules of war, known as the Geneva Convention."
"Thirdly, the Separatists are extremely expansive, and threatened innocent civilians of the United Nation when we were exploring this galaxy for the first time." The diplomats were careful not to reveal the two UN colony worlds of Valley and Mesa, for they did not fully trust their new allies yet and were concerned revealing their existence could lead to an attempted Separatist or perhaps even Republic military interference.
"You seem to have a lot of focus on countering aggressive nations," noted Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"A bad run in with their type would be putting it mildly," said the second diplomat.
"Could you perhaps tell us about this war?" asked Mace Windu.
"We can't tell you everything, as some of it is heavily classified, but we'll provide a short summary," replied the first diplomat.
"In 2555, one of our colonies was attacked and obliterated." A video appeared of several Covenant ships firing white beams onto the surface of Tundra, obliterating the settlements.
"This was the Covenant, a group of 7 alien races. They claimed we were a threat to them and opposed their religion. Obviously, this made no sense to us, but one thing was clear. We were fighting to save ourselves from extinction." Another video appeared, with a German unit firing upon some Ungoggy and Kig-Yar as they fought to defend the colony world of Sanction from invading Covenant forces. A Sangheili tried to attack them with a plasma blade, but an armoured individual grabbed it from behind and drove their combat knife into its neck, killing it instantly. The figure then picked up the plasma blade and impaled several Ungoggy and Kig-Yar before decapicating another Sangheili. The Germans cheered as they rushed forward, cutting down more Covenant troops.
"That was when we first used shield troopers. Super soldiers designed to hold the line against powerful enemies." A squad of shield troopers were seen leading several Russians and a group of APCs against a swarm of Covenant forces.
"We threw everything we had at them. But we were still no match." A small squad of Americans were overrun by a wave of Sangheili, as the last finally collapsed as a plasma bolt ripped upon his chest.
Two APCs exploded as a Covenant tank penetrated their armour.
A shield trooper was decapitated by a plasma sword.
"But as we fought, we learnt. We began to push them back." As the Covenant advanced, several Type 1001 Tanks and Chinese troops riding in APCs arrived, firing their weapons. The tanks unloaded several HEAT rounds into the Covenant forces, killing hundreds.
A swarm of American drones ripped holes in the Covenant lines with their missiles and cannons.
Two British helicopters fired rockets at Covenant troops, before several Canadians disembarked and opened fire. With them was a squad of Phase 2 shield troopers, who quickly fired at the enemy ranks. A Jiralhanae tried engaging them with its hammer, but one rolled underneath its swing and impaled on its energy sword.
A pair of Ares-class battleships ripped apart a Covenant ship with its MAC cannons.
A pair of Hunters were obliterated when a rocket exploded in front of them. Several Yanme'e were quickly gunned down as a portable anti-air system gunned them down.
A group of Polish soldiers retreated inside a building just as an AB-9 bomber began dropping its bombs, killing hundreds of Covenant forces.
The UHS Athena fired an antimatter missile, blowing a Covenant battleship to dust.
"It reached a stalemate, and we were still outnumbered even as we pushed them back. We have the Sangheili to thank for saving our skins. There was no way we could have won a war of attrition. Their leaders betrayed them, and the Sangheili realised they were pawns. They revealed their leaders had acted out of fear due to a prophecy which foretold that the UN would become the dominant force in the galaxy. That would have never happened if they didn't declare war. Many Sangheili died when they revealed the truth. But the defection was enough to change the war."
A group of Brazilians fought against a tide of Covenant forces. Outnumbered, they were about to give up when the Jiralhanae leading them was impaled by a plasma round to the head. Several Sangheili soldiers rushed forwards, firing plasma rifles and wielding plasma swords. The Brazilians cheered as they pressed the counterattack.
"It took a long time. But we finally won."
As a Prophet of the Covenant tries to flee, a shield trooper knocks him to the ground and points a pistol to his head. A gunshot is heard.
"But at what cost?"
Oh god that took long to write. I have edited this draft over time and time again. I even took it down to add more.
So next chapter, the UN on Ryloth! Get ready to see more technology, such as cloaked ships, antimatter missiles and medical treatment methods.
