Mission 1 – Ancient Castle, The Key of Dimensions

The next morning Kazi went downstairs to find only her uncle and Raven the former was stood against a wall silently while the latter leant against the desk with her arms folded her swords were at her lower back in a cross shape and holstered at each hip was Luce and Ombra the air seemed a little frosty mostly because of Vergil.

"Hey sleep well?" Raven had noticed she was awake

"Yeah surprisingly," she looked around "the others?"

"Kiyah and his Worship have already left, since, 'time is against us' after all," she said trying to imitate the dark knight himself at this Vergil turned his head to look at her but said nothing "of course he is right we should get going we have to stop that dick head from unleashing the dick head Emperor."

Kazi nodded her head "what about your mother? I would have thought Trish of all people would want to see Mundus' followers stopped,"`

Raven straitened and let out a long sigh "she and Lady have gone to Fortuna and part of me is glad, she is a powerful demon but I don't want her near Mundus' followers considering he killed her once before Dante was able to save her cause devil tears."

"Devil tears? Oh Kiyah said before about the tears of devils can heal and the more powerful ones can revive those who recently passed,"

"Yeah," Raven went behind the desk and took down the sword Sparda and placed it at her back while she mostly maintained that she didn't feel right using it she sometimes did for more powerful enemies "his tears brought her back good thing otherwise she wouldn't have met my father and I wouldn't have been born."

Kazi frowned here "his tears?"

Here for the first time in a long time Raven looked awkward "when Mundus made my mother it was in the appearance of Miss Eva," she frowned "his mother-" she cut herself off and looked at Vergil "and yours sorry if it seems insensitive...but its just as weird for me that my mother looks like yours and his mother looked and he thinks its weird cause we both get told off and she is apparently just the same."

Vergil's face was still one of cold neutrality so it was impossible to tell how he felt about the subject "I do not know your mother," he replied after a few moments "we met once or twice but not enough for me to make an opinion. I and Dante are use to it but I am unsure how my father feels...mothers death was hard for him to take when he learned of it..." Vergil straitened "I ask you mind what you say about it around him."

There was a moment between them Kazi didn't know what but it was there perhaps it was silent understanding or maybe for Raven it was more the fact that Raven knew Dante and from what she had heard the two got along very well perhaps seeing Vergil was like looking at an ice cold Dante.

Raven looked over at Kazi remembering she was still there "I would suggest you bring Alastor with you, your an amazing shot with Dante's guns but when it comes to the bigger badder demons its not enough even I'm going in heavy."

"Yeah apparently so its rare you use that sword,"

"Don't forget about us Raven we're your weapons, the firestorm and Raven fight as one," came Agni's voice

"Yeah," added Rudra "you don't need some fancy namby pamby sword"

Kazi shook her head and fastened holsters at her hips where she placed Ebony and Ivory she then walked over to a coat stand where her fathers old red coat hung it was a little too big in the sleeves but she compensated for that by rolling them up past her elbows.

It only just occurred to Kazi that her uncle didn't seem to have a weapon on him "do you need a weapon? My father acquired all manner of devil arms over his career there is sure to be something suited to your needs."

Vergil shook his head "I have my sword, let us go the sooner the better, we can drive to the border of the mountains but then we must proceed on foot."

The forest was surprisingly beautiful but Raven could feel something emanate from it but also it shouldn't have existed and more over she recognised the demon presence and it filled her with anger "Kazi...Vergil this forest...deceives...it looks beautiful but its demonic...all of it."

Kazi looked at her "how can you tell? It feels like a normal forest to me..."

"I...maybe its cause I'm more demon than human...but I can feel it I can feel the demon responsible..."

"No," it was Vergil's turn to speak "whatever is going on in this forest is probably connected with the castle...we can deal with it once we have what we've come for...your demonic blood is stronger and you are more susceptible to demon energies my father would say the same."

"My will is stronger than you think..."

"My words did not mean to offend," replied Vergil "the power to create a demonic forest requires a powerful will, you may be strong but you are still young, we will do what my father said and deal with the followers of Mundus and try to find where Bezieel is hiding himself...we can deal with this place on our return."

"You don't understand...the demon feeling...its the same I felt when my father was killed..."

"Raven...didn't my father deal with it?"

"Dante fought it but it got away...I swore to myself that day that I would find the demon who tore my father apart and deal with it...he is here."

"Raven..." for the first time Vergil didn't have a cold look on his face on the contrary it was one of understanding "I understand how you feel...but there is much at stake we can return here later"

"Yeah besides I'll feel much better you being with us at the castle, you've waited this long for revenge right is a little longer that much of an ask?"

Raven lowered her head "fine...but lets hurry-" a shriek suddenly sounded in the air followed by another one "well now looks like a fight is inevitable Kaz ready?" She asked taking out the devil sword

"Girl you know it," replied Kazi taking out Ebony and Ivory "lets rock."

Three lizard like demons came out of portals once again shrieking but the girls were ready Kazi began to unleash bullet hell while Raven rushed forward swinging the sparda at the nearest demon, it wasn't much of a fight between them they were able to take out the demons without giving Vergil time to react.

"That was almost too easy," said Kazi "bet the demons at that castle are even stronger-" the ground began to shake violently and cracks formed along it glowing with the strange purple light, the three of them dodged and rolled to safety as a chasm now appeared and below it a purple light.

Raven picked herself up and her eyes widened she and Vergil were on one side and Kazi was on the other side and the gap was too big to jump across even with her demonic agility "cut off," said Vergil coldly

"Kazi there isn't a way across here, head to the castle and we'll find another way and meet up," she called across to her friend "somehow," she added under her breath

"Kay see you there!"

Raven watched Kazi walk away then she went to the edge of the chasm "what is that purple stuff it feels really strong its knocking me sick"

"Demonic energy we shouldn't linger here, let's find a way to meet up with Eva,"

"I think she already said she uses the name Kazi...I don't actually know why she dropped her real name...I could hazard a guess," they moved away but the ground shook again and gave way from under them and there was nothing they could do about it.

Kazi didn't encounter any demons as she made her way to the castle, it was a large imposing structure that in its day was clearly magnificent large iron gates barred the way to a gravelled courtyard with a large statue in the centre of a knight on the back of a rearing horse.

As she approached the large doors she noticed they were already open a little had perhaps Raven and Vergil got there first until she knew for sure she would have to go carefully she was only somewhat demon but even she could feel the corruption emanating from the castle.

Kazi went through the door and entered into a large hall the west wall had two doors leading off it and the east wall had a large set of doors only there was a blue barrier criss crossing over it, she knew from experience that such barrier needed keys to dispel.

There was a grand staircase leading upwards that split in the middle though the west stairs had collapsed and there were double doors at the top that also had a barrier in front of it...her intuition told her that the barrier blocking the upstairs door was probably very important that and the fact the barrier itself looked thicker than the other one suggesting it was way stronger and would require more than usual to dispel.

The two west doors was the only way she could go for now or rather one of them was the only way she could go as the collapsed staircase had blocked one of the doors so she went through the only door that was available.

The door led into a long hallway that had doors running off it but most of them were locked except one and even before opening it there was a bad smell a smell that got even worse as she pushed open the door "urk my god."

It was a dinning room that had peeling wallpaper and old paintings on the wall, the long dinning table had food on it but it was festering and rotten and had rodents and maggots the smell was enough to make her sick but there wasn't time to think about it as a ghostly laughter filled the air.

What looked like two black shadows wearing white masks came out of the largest of the paintings they had long scissors and were coming at her, there wasn't much room for a fight but she had no choice she took out Ebony and Ivory and jumped back to avoid the scissors, she had encountered these before and knew shooting the bodies were pointless you had to destroy the masks.

With much jumping around and avoiding attacks she was able to defeat the wraiths but there was little time for victory as the floor gave way and she fell down into a partially flooded basement if the dinning room above was a sickening sight it was nothing compared to what she saw in the basement.

Bodies there were decomposing bodies some partially decompose, some very decomposed and other that were clearly fresh "h-how cruel..."

"We were sacrificed to their demon master," said an ethereal voice as a silver spectre materialised near her "we-" something brushed past Kazi's leg and then next thing something was pulling her down into water that was now much deeper, Kazi struggled and tried to break free but to no avail until she felt a presence pulled her out of the water and back into the basement, it was the spirit.

"Thank...you..." said Kazi

"The overseers in the castle killed us and offered our blood as sacrifices to Bezieel and then we were thrown to one of his followers a vile human who traded her humanity for demonic powers...even now Queen the vivisectionist experiments on our corpses and tortures us keeping us trapped here.

"Please young one...help us Queen guards the key of dimensions one of the three relics required to reach Bezieel's high priest Queen's brother Al'droz...please end our suffering...bring an end to the madness of this place...let us be free."

The spirit didn't need to beg for aid the demons in the castle had to be put down but also they still needed to find more information on Bezieel, "where can I find Queen?"

"She makes her lair in the greenhouse, follow the basement to the crypt which leads to the garden, she is a dangerous creature please be careful," the spirit then faded away.

Kazi had a least one lead this Queen apparently had a relic that would be needed to reach the high priest surely such a person would have information even if she had to beat it out of them, with something to go off she made her way through the basement trying not to look at the various bodies and soon walked up to a wall that was apparently a dead end but she saw cracks in it and through one stairs leading up this had to be it.

Kazi took Alastor from her back a long bladed sword who's hilt was in the form of a dragon head and wings and smashed through the already crumbling bricks to reveal a staircase leading up and when she followed it she soon came to a serious of vaults containing sarcophagus's some pristine others cracked.

"Of course there are demons," she said still holding Alastor as two frost portals opened them and out of them came two frost demons that looks exactly like Kiyah's demon form only they were bigger, readying herself she lunged forward clashing with the first demon but quickly dodged to the side as the second frost demon threw icy projectiles her way, she ran at the nearest demon and jumped into the air then kicked from its head to gain heigh and somersaulted bringing her sword down on it knocking it to the ground where she unleashed a combo of strikes defeating it before again dodging the other demons icy projectiles.

After a little while the second demon fell and she was able to continue on going up some more steps and pushing open a large door that led to the garden, it was a welcome change after the dank musty chambers she had passed through.

The garden was full of dead plants and an old dried fountain and dominating most of it was what looked like a large greenhouse but she couldn't see into it, she walked over to the door and when she opened it there was a portal there was no choice but to enter.

"No..." Kazi was in the greenhouse but it wasn't full of plants the windows were covered in human and demon skin alike that still oozed blood and there were various hooks and chains containing various body parts, organs and torso's "how cruel."

"Who dares intrude upon my sanctuary, ah, tis the bloodline of Sparda that comes, oh how delightful the enemy willing comes into my lair," a large creature dropped from the ceiling she had a vaguely human torso that was attached to a grasshopper like body and something glinted in the middle of her naked chest, the spirit said she had some sort of key that was important to reach the high priest.

"This place is a madhouse the way you've treated the dead is unforgivable"

"Spare me your morals, I was hoping to claim the blood of one of the sons of Sparda but you dear girl you will do nicely, we cannot allow you to interrupt with our plans but don't worry once I defeat you I will play with your corpse before offering it to our God."

Kazi once again took Alastor from her back lightning ran up and down the blade "not if I defeat you first, to think you were once human..."

Queen let out a screech and lunged at her with her mantis like claws but Kazi was able to roll out of the way of her attack and slice at the carapace but it was hard and not easy to harm, Queen whipped around and struck at her knocking her back.

Kazi put Alastor away and instead took out Ebony and Ivory as she went to shoot the demon turned away so the bullet hit the carapace body it told Kazi one thing Queen was protecting her torso it was likely vulnerable perhaps enough damage to that bug like body would give her the opportunity to strike the fragile flesh and that is what she did, she jumped around shooting at the demon and was starting to weaken her.

Kazi unlike her friends didn't have a devil form but she was able to channel her natural demonic power into the guns or her weapon, focusing with all her might she willed her power into the guns causing them to glow red which got brighter and brighter until she ran at the demon she jumped into the air and like with the frost demon placed a foot on the demons head and jumped off to gain more height before unleashed supercharged bullets into her carapace tearing through it.

Queen screamed in fury and pain as Kazi landed putting away her guns and once again taking Alastor and with a jump spun around taking off her vile head which rolled long the floor, landing Kazi was breathing heavily as she sheathed her weapon that fight took a lot out of her. The remains of Queen seemed to fizzle away leaving behind a black key that gave off a slight gold glint and looking around she realised the greenhouse was how it should have been full of plants, it seemed Queen's lair had been a pocket demon plane.

"Tired..." the fighting had taken a lot out of her and there was likely more to come there wasn't any time to rest yet not until they found how to get to Bezieel and stop him she just hoped it wouldn't take too long she wanted to reunite with her father.

"Thank you," the spirit had returned "with the death of Queen our souls are free and you recovered the key of dimensions but there are others at work here Queen's brother Al'droz is in the audience chamber performing profane rituals but before he can be reach the Tear of Chronos must be recovered and used with the key to unlock the seal."

Kazi nodded, "I hope you can rest peacefully the evil of this place will be stopped I promise,"

The spirit bowed then faded away there must have been a way out of the garden that would lead back to the castle she also hoped she would be able to meet back up with Raven and Vergil she didn't know her uncle but she knew if Raven was with her most fights would be not only fun but much easier.

Meanwhile

Toni stood leant against the van and let out a long sigh they had faced demon after demon in search of Abigail but they were no closer to finding their leader than they had been at the start, Dante seemed determined to find Abigail almost as determined as he had been to stop 'Urizen' the usurper...and boy was THAT a helter skelter of a ride...to think that fool had been father to Toni and her twin brother Nero.

Vergil wasn't with them now he'd agreed to go with Sparda and help Dante's daughter to stop another demon from reviving the Demon King of course Toni didn't care Vergil had never been there and he'd even taken Nero's right arm...she would never forgive her father...unfortunately that hate and confusion she bore would turn out to be her undoing.

Toni had pushed away from the van but she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end as several lizard like demons appeared, taking the sword that once belonged to Credo from her back she held it ready as the demons came at her, these were not Abigail's demons.

It was almost sad how easily the demons fell to her blade "come on at least make it more of a challenge!" multiple demons jumped at her but she allowed them to swarm around her, there was a burst of blue power that came from her throwing back the demons and behind Toni was the spectral image of a demon that annoyingly was the demon form her father had when he was Nelo Angelo.

"Sis how could you have fun without me!" her brother turned up the only difference between them other than biological was Toni's white hair was longer, "behind you!" the warning came to late Toni turned as a large portal opened behind her several tentacles came out and she was pulled into it.

That was the last thing Toni had remembered...when she opened her eyes she found herself in a strange chamber the very floor and walls seemed to be organic and the walls pulsed slightly, she was being held in the air by strange tentacles that were around her wrists and ankles she tried to break free but it was to no avail.

"Where the hell am I?" Toni tried breaking free again but her restraints merely tightened painfully but slackened a little when she stopped resisting "WHERE THE HELL AM I?!"

"This one is feisty," snarled a voice "what's so special about this mostly human girl?"

"This mostly human girl is a descendant of Sparda in fact her father was one of the sons of Sparda...the boss is especially interested in this girl...he wants her under his control"

"Wait...this is one of Vergil's brats...interesting."

Toni tried to find the source of the voices but she couldn't "he's not my father!" she snarled

"Spoken so hatefully...good the anger and hate will be useful, it would be in your best interest to cooperate"

"And if I don't?" The moment the words left her mouth Toni felt an incredible pain shoot through her body which felt as if her very blood was boiling she let out a scream of pain "fuck you!" again intense pain.

"Go ahead fight more we will break you little girl and then...and then you'll belong to us"

"I will...never submit..."

"We shall see...time is irrelevant in this place...while time may pass normally in the human world we will have an eternity to play an eternity to break your body, will and soul...then and only then will you be reborn as a weapon against our ancient enemy's bloodline."

"I'm no one's weapon, not the Order's, not yours not anyone's!" again Toni felt pain so intense it caused her to scream out in pain and tears began to fall down her face "I won't...I..."

"Keep the pain going, do not relent I will return soon."

Sometime later Toni wasn't sure how long all she had really known was the intense pain but soon she felt a heat against her skin only it didn't burn her and with the heat came a smell she found familiar but couldn't think were it was from "so it is you they have, who'd have thought we'd meet again and in this place...the fates are curious indeed"

"Who's there?" with force of will Toni raised her head and saw a large black beast like demon its body was like that of a bull with lizard like legs, its body was humanoid and its head was almost lion like with large orange horns and what looked like wings of fire came off its shoulders...Toni vaguely remembered who this was she had fought him twice once with her brother and a second time with Dante.

The demon turned and walked off, his sheer size only now gave Toni an idea of how big her prison was but she couldn't-wouldn't submit no matter how much pain they put her through...they would come for her "Nero...Dante...where are you?" They wouldn't leave her to this fate...she just had to endure.

There had to be a way into the underworld it had been three days since Toni had been captured "shouldn't you be out there smacking the demons about?" Nico crossed her arms "Dante said we'd find a way to save Toni but until we know where she is we can't do anything."

"I know and it pisses me off...I warned her too late...and now she is being held somewhere in the underworld," and if what Sparda had said was anything to go off then civil war was raging amongst the demons and his sister was being held in that place.

"Nero focus on now you little bitch, what about your old man? Anyone gonna tell him?"

Nero nodded he still had mixed feelings about his father he may have stopped Vergil and Dante from killing each other but that didn't mean he was eager to play family...Toni certainly wasn't she'd made it perfectly clear she didn't forgive their father "Dante is going to let him and Sparda know."

Nico inclined her head a little "Sparda is the legendary Dark Knight he'll know what to do right?"

"I really hope so...I want to save my sister but I also know stopping these demons is important..." he was conflicted "hang in there sis wherever you are we'll find you and bring you home."

It had surprised them when a portal had appeared and out of it came Dante, Vergil and their father the legendary demon himself Sparda it was then they had learnt about the demon civil war between Abigail and the forces still loyal to Mundus...if they were not stopped all of the human world would be done for.

"Let's hope them and my cousin are able to stop Mundus from returning...I won't see our world become a battle ground, as for you Nico you may wanna start using those weapons your so fond of making."

The mansion while containing a number of Mundus' followers didn't really offer much else other than practise for his new apprentice, while they hadn't found anything about their enemy or where he might be the infestation still needed to be cleared out.

Sparda was once again in his human form as they left the grounds of the mansion to better blend in with his surroundings "um...master are you alright? You seem troubled..."

Sparda looked at his new apprentice and let out a sigh "when we split up inside to clear out the demons I got a phone call from my son Dante..."

"Has something happened in Fortuna?"

"My granddaughter was captured by demons and taken to the demon world...and while she may bear no love for her father he still needs to be told," Sparda had no idea what the demons wanted with Toni he could only guess but it couldn't be a good thing "when Vergil and the others return from their task we will go to Fortuna...the three of them can stop Bezieel without me."

"I'm going too?"

Sparda once again looked at her there was a surprised look on her face "you are my apprentice child you can't learn if your not with me, before we return to Devil May Cry there is something I want to show you"

"Oh?"

"The graves of my former apprentices Modeus and Baul...its about time I paid my respects."

When Sparda reach the two graves Dante had respectfully built he knew that at some point one grave had been desecrated apparently Modeus' skull had been used to revive Abigail years ago.

Dante had told him how Baul had attacked Dante intending to claim Sparda's power but his son had defeated him, Modeus had befriended Dante however when Baul was killed honour dictated he try to avenge his brother and Dante had no choice but to kill him too.

"Baul you fool boy," Sparda sighed Baul and Modeus' weapons had been placed inside a stone no doubt by Dante, both blades resembled Rebellion though one was silvery blue and the other red.

"Modeus I have a new apprentice a young frost demon I'm going to give her your sword I know you would not mind but its polite to ask all the same," he took the red sword out of the stone and motioned for Kiyah to come over.

"Won't they be back in the underworld somewhere? I-Isn't that what happens when demons are killed"

"Sometimes but it can take centuries for them to reform...though Baul disappoints me I still hope sometime in the future I can meet them again and give Baul a scolding he won't soon forget in the meantime...I want to entrust you with this sword."

Sparda handed Kiyah the crimson sword she took hold of it and examined it her demonic strength allowed her to lift it with ease "is this really OK? Your apprentice won't mind? To be honest I've never really used swords though I summon a shard of ice and in demon form my claws are enough."

"Keep hold of the sword until we can return it to Modeus, come, we have much left to do and time is against us."
