"Don't Go"

"He did not just bench me," Andy thought to herself as she walked out of the fire station that she has called home for so long. "I did this to myself, didn't I? All I had to do was not fall in love with my boss. And what did I go and do fall in love with my boss" she now found herself talking to the bird that was perched on the bench she was sitting on. "And now I'm talking to a bird. Maybe I deserve this," she said getting up and walking home.

The next day she stayed in bed, not saying a word to Maya. She heard her leave for work that morning and it burned her deep down inside that she couldn't go too. "What if she just went to work. Apologized to Sullivan for her 'insubordination' and just get back to work," she thought. But she had one problem. She wasn't sorry. He broke her, he is the reason her head is so far out of the game. He is the reason she doesn't want to get out of bed.

Suddenly her phone rang, breaking the silence of the apartment. She turned the phone over to see it was Ryan. She didn't want to answer but she knew that he would keep calling until she did.

"Hello," she said answering the phone

"Hey Andy, do you want to go out for lunch today?" Ryan asked sounding a little too eager

"Uhh...sure. I'll meet you at the Café at 1" Andy responded not even questioning the fact that he knew she wasn't at work

"Great see you later...bye"

"Goodbye Ryan." With that, Andy rolled over covering herself in her warm blanket. Why did she agree, she didn't want to leave the house today. About an hour later she checked the clock to see it was now 11:30 and figured it was time to start getting ready, seeing that she has yet to even take a shower.

She hopped into the shower washed her hair with her favorite lavender shampoo and conditioner. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, and got dressed. By the time she was done, it was 12:30 and time for her to leave. She looked at herself in the mirror, took a deep breath, and walked out the door to her car.

-At the Café-

Andy sat at a table waiting for Ryan to come in. When he finally arrived they laughed and talked about old times. Finally, the question Andy knew was coming came.

"Andy, why aren't you at work?" Ryan finally asked

"I took the week off" Andy replied taking a sip of her drink

"Andy I've known you for more than 20 years. I've seen you work every single day since you were a firefighter. You have never taken a day off in your life. So what's going on?" Ryan said the last part with a straight face

Andy looked up and told her best friend of 20 years that she fell in love with her captain and everything that led to her sitting in front of him now.

"Wow, you crapped where you eat." Ryan said the same phrase told to Andy by her father a few weeks prior.

"Crapped where I eat." Andy repeated, "How is San Diego, how are things with Jenna?" Andy asked hoping to change the subject that she hated the most.

"We broke up," Ryan said dryly before taking a sip of his drink as well.

"Oh I'm so sorry," Andy said reaching for his arm

Lunch was going by smoothly until they heard fire trucks passing by. Andy turned her head to look and felt that same burning sensation within her like she felt that morning when she saw "19" on the side of them. She knew it was her team going to a fire she wished she was on.

-At the Fire-

Fighting fires wasn't the same without Andy there and the entire team knew it. They also knew that she wasn't sick. They thought of questioning Sullivan about it, but he hasn't been friendly today and they didn't want to push it. They were working their hardest to fight the fire, but it was one that was going to get worse before it got better. The entire team was inside, some were fighting the fire, others were retrieving victims, and a few were treating victims. Everyone was out except for Sullivan who was getting out the last bit of fire when there was an explosion.

"Captain...Captain Sullivan come in...Are you there" Bishop yelled into her radio trying to contact her captain, but there was no response.

"I need a search and rescue team to recover Captain. Miller, Gibson lets go" she continued.

After what seemed like 45 minutes of searching they found their captain who was caught under a ton of debris. It looks like he had been out of oxygen for about 30 minutes, he had severe smoke inhalation and possible internal injuries. They loaded him up into the aid car and took him to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, where Ben's wife, Miranda was there waiting for them to arrive.

As they pulled up they brought him into the ER. "Bring him to Trauma 1, page Shepard, Grey, and Lincoln," Miranda yelled following behind the firefighters who just brought their captain in.

Once the doctors began working on him Miranda come out to the team "Who is his emergency contact? Does he have any family we can call?" She asked looking at the team.

"Let me check his file," Maya said pulling out the Ipad that had everyone's file on it.

"It says here his emergency contact is...huh wow I did not see that coming," she said completely shocked by what she saw

"Who is it Bishop," Vic said walking over to Maya looking over her shoulder at the I pad. "Huh...wow I didn't expect him to have one," she said shocked just like Maya

"Will you guys snap out of it and just say who it is," Gibson said grabbing the I pad from Maya's hand. When he read the name he was also shocked, "It's Andy..." he said looking at the Miranda.

"Okay I will call her," she said walking away leaving the team to process whatever it is that shocked them

"I didn't know they were that close" Montgomery finally said

"Let's see who Andy's emergency contact is," Miller said, genuinely curious to find out. He took the Ipad from Jack and searched for Andy's name.

"Its Sullivan...The captain is Andy's emergency contact." Miller said leaving everyone in even more shock.

Just them Miranda came back out to see if Andy had gotten there yet.

"Is there any news?" Warren asked his wife

"Ben you know I can't discuss a patient's condition with anyone but their emergency contact and health proxy. Andy happens to be both so until she gets here I can't say a word." she walked back into the trauma bay.

-Back at the Café-

Ryan and Andy were talking and laughing when her phone began to go off. It was an unknown number so she ignored it. A few minutes later the same number called her back, this time she picked up.

"Hello this is Herrera," Andy said into the phone

"Hi, Andy. This is Miranda, Ben's wife the doctor from Grey Sloan Memorial." Miranda said from the other side of the phone

"Is everything okay. Is it my dad?" Andy asked starting to get worried

"What's wrong with Pruitt," Ryan said but Andy put her hand up stopping him from continuing.

"No, it's not Pruitt...It's Robert Sullivan, he got seriously injured during a call today and you are his emergency contact and health proxy so we need to call you, it's protocol." Miranda saying this only made Andy worry more. The man she loved was hurt, laying on a table in a hospital and she wasn't with him.

"Okay I'm on my way," Andy said hanging up the phone and immediately began packing her bag

"Andy, what's wrong? Is it Pruitt?" Ryan asked worried himself.

"No, it's not my dad its Sullivan...He's hurt and I need to get there now sorry to cut lunch short." Andy said frantically looking for her keys.

She finally found then am began to walk out when Ryan grabbed her hand

"Are you actually going to go sit at the bedside of the man that hurt you like that. The man who is the reason you aren't at work right now?" Ryan said looking at her. "I think it's time I tell you the real reason I asked you to lunch...Andy I love you. I have loved you since we were young and I have never stopped loving you. That's why I and Jenna broke up because I couldn't get over you." Ryan said still looking at Andy in the eye hoping he had changed her mind.

"Ryan I love you too but only as a friend. I love Robert and nothing will ever change that, no matter what happens. I'm sorry but I need to go." Andy said running out of the café.

-Back at the hospital-

Andy came running into the hospital and saw the rest of her team sitting in the waiting room. She looked at them and then walked over to the nurse's station.

"I'm here to see Robert Sullivan he was admitted today," She told the nurse sitting at the counter

"Let me check," the nurse said

"You can skip the fake searching thing that you're doing. I'm his emergency contact and his health proxy so get me to him now" Andy said low enough for only the nurse to hear.

Before the nurse could give her a room, Miranda came out looking for Andy once again. When Andy heard her call her name she ran over to make herself known.

" , I'm here, I'm here," Andy said running over

"Okay come with me," Miranda said

Andy followed Miranda into a room in the ICU, she saw Robert Sullivan the man they all thought was indestructible laying in a hospital bed unconscious, hooked up to multiple machines. Andy almost lost it, he looked so vulnerable laying there in front of her. Dr. Bailey had given them a few minutes alone before she came in a filled Andy in on Robert's condition.

After her talk with , Andy went back out to update the team.

"Hey guys," Andy said walking up to the team. The team she didn't have time to acknowledge before because she was scared about Robert's condition.

"What's the word with Captain" Montgomery asked taking a step closer to Andy

"Right now he is stable, but he is unconscious and is hooked up to so many machines most of which I don't even know what they do." She said turning to the rest of the team. "Dr. Bailey said he suffered some severe trauma. What happened out there? Why was he inside alone?" she asked looking at Maya this time.

"He sent me out after we found a victim," Jack finally spoke up after a few minutes of silence. "He sent me out with the victim while he put out the rest of the fire and then there was an explosion. When we found him he was covered in debris. It's my fault that he's hurt it should've been me," he said looking down.

"It's not your fault Gibson," Maya said patting Jack on the shoulder. "No one expected you to ignore the captain's command, don't beat yourself up about it."

"It is his fault, he could've easily said no and stayed behind with him!" Andy was now yelling at Jack. Montgomery grabbed her holding her back. He and Vic took Andy for a walk down the hall.

"How could he just leave him in there," Andy said with tears daring to fall down her cheeks.

"Andy, is there something you're not telling us. Why are you taking this so hard" Travis said looking at Andy

Andy looked down to her lap, placing a hand on her stomach. Then it hit both Vic and Travis at the same time.

"You're pregnant...aren't you," Vic said wrapping her around her friend

"And it's the captain's isn't it?" Travis asked already knowing the answer. Andy simply nodded not able to say a word. Not only was she scared for the life of the father of her unborn child, but she was embarrassed. She not only slept with her Captain, but she fell in love with him. Would he even be happy about the baby?

With all these thoughts racing in her mind she could no longer contain herself, she just broke down in tears. She couldn't handle the thought of raising a baby alone if Robert died. She was glad that she had her friends there to be with her. It wasn't her plan to tell about the baby now, but then again life never goes as planned.

After composing herself, Andy, Vic, and Travis made their way back to the waiting room. Two by two the team went to go visit their Captain, the man they all respected dearly. When Vic and Maya went to go see the Captain, Maya kept complaining about how Andy was overreacting and that it could've been anyone hurt in that fire. Vic had had enough and pulled her to the side and said, "Maya cut her some slack, she is going through a lot right now. And now her friend is in the hospital hooked up to machines. So forgive her if she is a little aggravated," and with that Vic walked off leaving Maya there alone.

The entire team had gone home now and it was just Andy sitting in Robert's hospital room. She pulled the chair closer to the bed so she could hold his hand. There she was sitting in a hospital room next to the man he loved, praying that he would wake up so she could tell him everything.

That was her last thought before she fell asleep, her head on the side of the bed, one hand in his, and the other on her stomach.

This one was kinds exciting to write. Pt.2 coming soon
