"Surprise"
Continuation of "Don't Go"
Andy woke up to the sound of Robert choking on his breathing tube. She quickly ran to the door yelling for a doctor. Dr. Grey heard her and came running in with her intern.
"This is good , he's waking up and trying to breathe on his own," Dr. Shmitt said to Andy.
She looked down blushing, "No you've got it wrong I'm not his wife, I'm just a friend," she said. Saying that hurt her more than she thought it would, she wanted to more than his friend. "Well, now they are going to be family," she thought, placing a hand on her stomach.
She stepped to the side and let the doctors work. As soon as she got the all-clear to come closer, she resumed her previous position of sitting next to him holding his hand, falling right back asleep.
"Andy" she woke up to someone calling her name. "Andy" when she finally came too she saw Sullivan looking at her from his bed.
"Mhmm..you're awake, how are you feeling?" she asked, still kind of groggy. It was still early, around 8:00.
"I'm okay given the circumstances," he said letting out a little laugh. She sent him a sweet smile in response. "What are you doing here?" he finally asked.
"We made each other our emergency contacts after the aid car accident, so they called me when you got admitted." She responded playing with the ring on her finger. He had given it to her for her birthday, and she never took it off.
He watched as she played with it. She only ever did when she was nervous or something was on her mind. "After everything that happened I didn't think you would still wear it," he said referring to the ring.
"Yeah...well, you know...," she said, shrugging. She didn't even know why she still wore it.
"I also didn't think you would show up after everything I've done to you," Sullivan said still looking at her.
"Of course I would show up. It doesn't matter what happened between us, we promised on that day we would always show up for each other and I intend on keeping that promise. We are family" she said, finally looking him in the eye. He smiled, what he didn't know was she meant that last part literally, that if she kept this baby they would be family.
She decided to call the team and update them on the Captain's condition. She called Vic because she felt more comfortable talking to her, after everything she went through with Ripley.
"Hey, Vic?" Andy said into the phone
"What's up Andy" Vic responded
"Just wanted to give you guys an update on Sullivan. He's awake and breathing on his own now. He is doing much better and the doctor said he should be able to get discharged soon." Andy responded quickly hoping to avoid the question she knew was coming
"Have you told him yet?" Vic asked
"No, I just don't know-how. He and I aren't in a relationship. We haven't talked in weeks. What do I do just come out and say, 'oh yeah by the way, on top of everything else you are going through right now, I'm pregnant and it's yours' I don't know how to do this Vic" she responded quietly so no one else could hear.
"I understand completely. But tell him soon before he finds out on his own, that would be worse. How far along are you though?"
"I don't know, maybe 6 weeks," Andy responded. Now she was embarrassed she kept it a secret for so long.
"6 weeks!? Girl you need to tell him now. I gotta go, good luck." and hung up the phone
Andy sighed, how was she going to tell him that he was going to be a father. She decided she would just give him the pregnancy test in a little box and hope for the best.
"I'm going to go to the store, I'll be right back," she told Sullivan before grabbing her bag and walking out the room. She got in her car and drove to the nearest store. She quickly picked up a pregnancy test, she was going to just take a new one even though she already knew she was pregnant and a little black box to put it in. After she paid and was about to leave the cashier said, "Good Luck". Andy just smiled in response, that wasn't the type of luck she needed right now, but she would take it.
She arrived back at the hospital and went straight to the bathroom in Robert's room, he was sleeping so he didn't see her come in. She took the test and sat on the counter waiting. Even though she knew the results she was still nervous, for obvious reasons. "What if he isn't happy." she thought to herself.
Finally, the results came back on the test, she pulled out the box and put the test inside covering it with confetti so he wouldn't see it right away. She walked out of the bathroom to see him waking up.
"Hey I didn't know you got back," he said smiling at her.
"Yeah I didn't want to wake you" she responded. Suddenly a wave of nausea fell upon her and she ran back into the bathroom. When she was done, she felt like she threw up everything she had ever eaten, quickly she rinsed out her mouth and walked over to the bed.
"You okay," Sullivan asked, grabbing her hand.
"Yeah, actually I have something for you," she said, Sullivan looked at her confused. What could she have possibly gotten for him?
She handed him the box and began to fiddle with her ring again. He began to open it when she yelled stop. She got up from the chair and began to pace around the room.
She stood in the corner, took a deep breath, and said: "okay you can open it now."
She stayed in the corner and watched as he opened the box and his eyes went wide. He looked up at her and she watched as a tear fell from his eye.
"You're pregnant?... It's mine?" he finally said.
"Yeah" she responded walking closer to him.
"We're having a baby!" he said again this time full of excitement.
She felt so much better knowing that he was happy. He shifted on the bed making room for her to sit with him.
"How far along are you," he asked, placing his hand gently on her stomach.
"Like 6 weeks I actually have an appointment upstairs later today. I can ask if you can come. Only if you want." She said looking down during the last part.
"Of Course I want to come." he said
"We're having a baby," he said after a short pause lifting her chin up so her lips could meet his.
"Yes we are," she said and went to kiss him again.
