So this is something a little different. I wanted to express how each team member felt during the spaghetti dinner. They get a paragraph each, Jack's being the longest for obvious reasons. Hope you enjoy!
"Do you not want to get married? Or do you just not want to get married to me?" Jack's mind went back to that conversation he had with Andy in the turnout room two years ago as he watched his Battalion Chief and Ex-girlfriend, roommate, almost fiance, and friend kiss in front of everyone at the spaghetti dinner. Andy told him earlier that she married Sullivan. Multiple times at that. She told him that she didn't regret it, she also told him that her dad got to walk her down the aisle. But above all that she told him that she did it out of love. That she did really and truly love their Battalion Chief. And if all of that didn't make it real to Jack, Andy's hand on his chest, her on her tippy toes kissing Sullivan in front of the entire station and parts of the community, made it real. He just sat there not knowing what to think. Thanks to he was already aware that he falls in love with people who can't seem to love him back. And that makes him think. Did Andy ever actually love him? Did Maya? He sees how happy Andy is with her husband. He sees this light in her eyes one that wasn't there earlier today and definitely wasn't there when they were together. It's the way she completely blocks out everyone else and just looks up at him and smiles, and the way he smiles back at her. I don't think anyone knew Robert Sullivan was capable of feeling anything until this moment.
Travis was sitting next to Jack. He sat there mouth open wide. He didn't even realize he was clapping. It was slow clapping but he was indeed clapping. He remembered when he got married. His parents didn't even bother showing up. He never did get over that. You would think that your parents would set aside that fact that you are gay and come to your wedding. Chances are that's the only wedding you will ever get. But they didn't show. After he got over the initial shock of seeing his Lieutenant and Battalion Chief kiss he concluded that he was happy for Andy and Sullivan. He was happy that they found love. Then his mind went to Vic, "Oh my god Vic…"
Vic was in complete utter shock. She had no words. She kind of went numb. She wasn't happy for them. She wasn't mad at them. She wasn't sad. She wasn't jealous. Wait no, she was jealous, she was mad, she was sad but at the same time she was happy. She was jealous that Andy knew better than to wait for something bad to happen to marry the person she loved. She was jealous that Andy didn't spend all this time in the dating phase. She was mad that Andy got the man she wanted. She was sad she didn't get Ripley. And oddly at the same time she was happy for them. Happy that they found love in eachother. Happy that they found their person, the person they were ready to spend the rest of their lives with. If only she hadn't waited so long to propose to Lucas. If only she had married him maybe they would be happy too.
Dean was sitting across from Vic. He was eating a cookie. He was enjoying the cookie. What he wasn't expecting was to almost choke on the cookie when his Battalion Chief announced that Andy Herrera was now Andy Herrera-Sullivan. That right there caught him by surprise. Dean didn't really have much of an opinion of the union of two of his commanding officers. I mean the natural emotional response to hearing that one of your friends got married is to be happy. And he was...happy for them. He was, wasn't he?
Emmett was sitting behind Vic. He was new. He didn't know much about what was going on in the station. But it did catch him by surprise. They had been so professional. He didn't even know that Herrera and Sullivan were dating, much less married. And by the looks of the rest of his teammates, they didn't know either. So he just clapped. And smiled. And hoped that one day he could have that with Travis.
Ben was sitting at a table with his wife. He was proud of Sullivan. After the events of the day, he was happy that Sullivan decided it was time to tell the whole truth. They had gone to Dixon about the drugs and in the process gotten the line of duty funeral for Captain Herrera approved. And the last step was coming clean and announcing his marriage. And he did it. And Ben was proud. He was happy for his friends. He was still upset that Sullivan stole drugs from the PRT but still he was happy that they had each other.
Maya was sitting in her office when all of this went down. She already knew Andy and Robert were together. She figured that out a long time ago. But she had yet to find out that they were married. She just had an argument with her girlfriend and while she was happy that Andy had found someone, that wasn't on the forefront of her mind, understandably so.
Andy stood up front, in front of everyone kissing her husband. She had been tense about the whole day and the whole marriage all day but once she was in the arms of her husband she didn't care that she was in front of everyone. Well she cared but cared a little less now that his arms were wrapped around her. She knew they would definitely be discussing this later when they got home. And she already knew she didn't want to fight about it. But for some odd reason she was happy he announced it, it was like a weight lifted off her shoulders. And all the seeds of doubt Jack tried planting in her mind earlier just seemed to fall on dry ground. She was married, she was Andrea Herrera-Sullivan, and boy was she proud.
Robert stood in front of the station and the community with his wife in his arms and he couldn't feel prouder. He felt several weights being lifted off his chest. He had come clean about the drugs and his addiction. He got his father-in-laws funeral approved. And he had just announced his and Andy's marriage to everyone. Clearly he didn't think it through. He was kind of on a 'tell the truth' high. If he had thought it through, he probably would have consulted with his wife first. He was ready to live his life in the light with his wife by his side. "No more secrets" is a sentiment he will live with for the rest of his life.
