(quick disclaimer slight change from the original show, in the show Travis goes in the aid car with the guy to Grey Sloan, yeah not in this story. In this story no one left)
"What are you doing?" He yelled at the officer that was pushing him and Travis away from their teammates, because you know that is something he can do and not get in trouble. "Why aren't they listening?" Jack thought to himself. He stood there watching as his co-workers were being driven off in police cars. He watched as a single tear fell down Andy's face. He didn't know what to do. "What do we do," he asked, turning to Maya who was standing next to. He didn't get a response. He looked at each of his friends. He watched silently as Travis went over to Andy to help calm her down. Vic was still staring off into the distance. Maya was now talking to the Captain of 23. The five of them were just there. The aid car left with the kidnapper, the fire was out, the fire trucks pulled off. He heard someone yell something and walk off. Before he knew it, he was standing there alone with Maya.
They got back to Maya's apartment and began cleaning up. What was supposed to be a fun team bonding day turned into a day they would all want to forget.
"I just can't stop thinking about it," He started. "I practically second handedly committed arson when I helped Inara and Marcus escape her abusive husband. I didn't light the candle but I'm sure I gave her the idea" He sighed. "Sullivan and Miller were literal heroes today and what do they get for it? They don't get a pat on the back, Dean barely got fresh oxygen before he was tackled to the ground. Sullivan didn't even get the burn on his arm treated before he had guns pointed at him for protecting Andy. But-"
"But if it had been you and me or you and Travis, we would've been just fine, we would have been back here in the apartment bonding and partying," Maya finished. "We live in a messed-up world, Jack. This isn't a world I want to live in. And I sure as hell am not going to stand by as a Captain and watch my team get arrested for doing their jobs and I sure as hell am not going to stand by silently as a human and watch the people, I love treated like they are dirt," She continued.
They finished cleaning the apartment and were sitting on the couch. "We aren't supposed to be alone together, as per your Hot Italian Girlfriend remember," Jack said trying to lighten the mood, which worked a little because Maya laughed. Her phone buzzed. "It's Travis," she said, "He's at Andy's place with her and Vic, he thinks we should come over, Andy hasn't done anything except angry clean and yell and she refuses to go to her bed and Vic hasn't said a word,"
They drove in silence. They both stared out the windows as they drove past the street where their friends, and colleagues were arrested less than two hours ago.
"Didn't think I would ever come here," Jack said standing in front of his former chief and ex-girlfriend/roommate's apartment. "Especially not under these circumstances," The two walked in through the front door. They were met with Travis sitting on the stairs, Vic sitting on the couch, a wall of boxes of what they assumed to be the belongings of Pruitt Herrera, and Andy going back and forth between boxes doing what seemed to be sorting the items. They looked at each other. It was worse than they thought. It had only been two hours yet Travis looked exhausted.
Jack walked over to Vic, taking a seat next to her. "Hey, Vic. It's okay to cry if you need to. I can be a shoulder for you, I don't mind." He hesitantly placed a comforting hand on hers. He watched as she flinched immediately pulling her hand away from his. She slowly turned her head; he could see the tears brimming in her eyes. She mumbled something, it was barely audible, he couldn't catch it.
He didn't know what to do. He just knew one thing; he couldn't stand to see the pain on his friends faces. He couldn't stand to see them like this.
I know this one is not the longest or the most interesting, but I always have a hard time trying to figure out what is going on ins Jack's mind idk. I'm going to try and get all these out before the premiere in 8 days (woot! Woot!). Only 4 more stories in this series! We will get to the letters soon enough patience is a virtue;)
