The sound of the elevator arriving at the penthouse office alerted everyone in the room. The doors opened and out walked the Kingpin himself along with two armed tracksuits.
Vanessa smiled at the sight of her recuperated husband, she laid eyes on his face which still had some scarring on it from Maya Lopez's gunshot, the cybernetic eyes were working well for Fisk.
Vanessa and Wilson smiled at each other endearingly as she stood up and allowed him to sit in the seat at the table. Wilson still struggled to walk properly from the injuries he sustained and the heavy medication he was under.
At this table sat Tombstone, Prowler, and a man that Fisk did not know yet.
"I appreciate everything you all have done for me, truly," he said, "Everything is going as planned but... in order to move in a more swift fashion we must escalate our efforts, Mr. Lincoln," said Fisk.
"I'm doing the best I can but my resources are limited I'll need some support to move the product faster," said Tombstone.
"I understand, I have seen to it that you get a considerable deposit in order to assist you," Fisk said giving Tombstone a nod.
"I also see that we have a newcomer to the table, Vanessa spoke very highly of your talents, Mr...?" said Fisk wanting to know more about this man.
"You don't need to know my name right now, my men and I are in the process of acquiring the last of the Maggia's wealth in order for us to use,"
Fisk looked upon the man quite skeptically, "Very well then you will all be notified when there will be another meeting like this," he said standing up and shaking everyone's hand on their way out.
The only ones that remained were the Prowler and Vanessa.
"Now, about our enemies," said Fisk as Vanessa sat down at the table.
"Maya Lopez," said Vanessa.
"She a target?" asked Prowler.
"Yes, she needs-"
"No!" said Fisk still not wanting to hurt Maya, "Maya is resourceful she will have left the city already, we have other enemies that need attention,"
"Who?" asked Prowler.
"Daredevil, and now Spider-Man as well,"
"What about Jessica Jones?" asked Vanessa.
"She is a threat, yes, but not as important as those two,"
"So you want me to go after them?" asked Prowler.
"Patience my friend, I will not send you to fight them by yourself,"
"What do you mean?"
"We have a few candidates in mind to assist you but we won't go after them yet, good things come to those who wait," said Kingpin with a smile.
Meanwhile...
Peter was walking down the street in Chinatown, phone to his ear making a call.
"Hello?"
"Hey Matt, everything okay with Karen and Foggy?"
"Oh yeah, they're safe,"
"Okay well we need to talk can you meet me at this address tonight at 7 pm?"
"Alright I'll be there," said Matt as Peter hung up the phone.
He quickly crossed the street where F.E.A.S.T. was. Being there does bring pain to Peter as it was probably the place that reminded him of Aunt May the most. Everything May stood for was represented here in this building. He'll never forget her last words to him: With great power, there must also come great responsibility.
The hurt was even worse walking inside, as before all the residents of the shelter knew him as that friendly kid that was always there when you needed him and would greet him. Now since the spell, only a handful of people know him after he started working there again. Peter awkwardly waved at the ones who did know him and walked towards the director's office.
Peter knocked on the half-opened door, "Mr. Li?"
"Ah, Peter come in," said Martin Li, the director of F.E.A.S.T.
"Hi, Mr. Li how are you?"
"I'm doing fantastic Peter," he said.
"Yeah same ever since starting to work here, you know helping people, I've felt a lot better,"
"I'm glad you are Peter, ever since your Aunt passed away things have been difficult around here. May was so very close with our residents and she did so much for everyone, please sit,"
Peter sat and Mr. Li went behind his desk, "So what brings you in? I don't remember asking you to come in today, did you want to work?"
Peter started opening his backpack, "I just... I know you have a degree in historical art and I was wondering if you could help me by telling me what this is,"
Peter handed the mask that he had taken off one of the men at the bombing of the bank to Mr. Li.
Upon seeing it Mr. Li's smile faded, "Well this here is a Chinese Opera Mask," he flipped it around to look at the inside of it observing a marking, "This symbol, roughly translates to 'Demon.'"
"Demon..." said Peter intrigued.
"My father used to read me ghost stories as a child with these Demons and they terrified me... where did you get this?"
Peter's eyes widened, "Um my friend Michelle is doing a... research project,"
Mr. Li looked at the mask and handed it back to Peter, "Look Peter I would suggest your friend Michelle to stay away from this, anything that involves that is usually dangerous,"
Peter looked at his watch, "Oh um I'm sorry Mr. Li I gotta go but thanks for the information,"
Mr. Li smiled at Peter, "No problem Peter I'll see you around,"
Later...
Spider-Man stood on the rooftop of the NYPD headquarters looking out at the city.
The metal guardrail made a metallic noise as Daredevil grasped onto it to pull himself up.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to climb to the rooftop of the NYPD headquarters without being seen?" said Matt.
"I didn't think it would be a problem for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen,"
"Yeah? Well, the 'Devil of Hell's Kitchen' can't web swing to the top of a building," Matt said playfully punching Spider-Man's arm.
"So what are we-" Matt was interrupted at the door opening and reached for his baton but quickly recognized it was Spider-Man's cop friend.
"Yuri! I missed you,"
"Yes you did you haven't checked in with me at all," said Yuri.
"Well hi! This is me checking in," said Spider-Man.
Yuri groaned, "At least you two are getting along, do you have something for me?"
"Well as you must know Wilson Fisk is back," said Daredevil, "We've been tracking him but he's put us on the defense recently,"
"Yeah I know I heard that he kidnapped you," said Yuri, "How has he put you on the defense exactly?"
"He's going after people in my life I've been trying to keep them safe," said Daredevil, "the building I was being held in is in Columbus Square the one still under construction."
"To my knowledge, the building was declared abandoned but the city can't track down the owners, I'll have to look into that but from what I see here we're going to have to play the long game," said Yuri.
"Yeah Fisk seems to be three steps ahead of us right now," said Spider-Man.
"We also need more evidence if we want to hold him in prison for good,"
"We'll have to play the long game, legally right now there's not much connecting Fisk to all of this, other than some tracksuit who said his name to Spider-Man," said Daredevil.
Yuri nodded in agreement.
"Yuri, have you ever heard of Demons?"
Yuri looked at Spider-Man puzzled, "Yeah like in the bible or anime,"
"No I mean I recently did some digging into those masked guys who were trying to rob the bank on 48th and 5th, their masks apparently mean Demons, that might be the name of their group,"
"Yeah they were armed to the teeth but what does that have to do with Fisk?" asked Yuri.
"Probably nothing but its odd," said Spider-Man.
"It's odd because if Fisk is back and trying to restart his operations, having another well-armed and organized gang on the streets would be a hindrance to him," suggested Daredevil
"So you think they're working together?" Spider-Man said.
"It's likely, otherwise there would be some sort of turf war," Daredevil said.
"I need to do some more digging into all of this I'll keep in touch," said Yuri excited with the new information she has received.
Yuri retreated back inside the precinct, Daredevil looked over at Peter, "Peter there's something else you should know, have you ever heard of Frank Castle, The Punisher?"
"Yeah, that guy is crazy,"
"Well just so you know he's back in town, he's the one who's keeping Karen safe,"
"And you trust him?" asked Peter skeptically.
"I trust that he'll do whatever it takes to protect her as I would,"
"I guess nowhere's safer than under the protection of the big bad Punisher,"
After a minute, Peter looked over at Matt, "So is it crime-fighting time or what?"
Matt chuckled, "Come on let's go see what we can find out,"
Matt took out his billy club and launched it at a nearby antenna, he ran and jumped off the side of the building grappling down.
Peter followed suit and lept off of the building swinging off with Matt into the city.
Meanwhile in a Queens apartment...
Karen sat at a desk searching the internet for clues on Fisk.
Suddenly the door opened and in walked two men, one Frank Castle and one Foggy Nelson with a bag over his head.
"Is this really necessary?" said Foggy.
"Yes asshole," said Frank removing the bag from Foggy's head, "It's a safe house to which the location needs to be safe,"
Frank walked off into the bedroom leaving Foggy and Karen alone.
"Hi Karen," said Foggy embracing her, "I'm glad you're okay here's the stuff you asked for,"
"Thank you,"
Foggy sat down, "So how's safe house living?"
"Oh it's great you know really cozy," said Karen. who nodded even though she hated this position they were in. "You know I just... I miss the old days, you know the Nelson and Murdock days, the three of us, hanging out at Josie's, it was a so nice,"
"Yeah, it was,"
"And Matt it's just... I feel like the Matt Murdock that blipped back wasn't the one we knew, he just went back to being Daredevil, and look, now he's off running around with Spider-Man like what the hell."
"Hell, I wanna meet Spider-Man that guy is an Avenger,"
"Foggy I'm trying to be serious here, I just... I wish I knew what went through Matt's head is it being a lawyer is it being Daredevil..."
Foggy sighed at looked at Karen, "Matt's been my best friend for years now, and ever since I found out he was Daredevil I feel like I finally understood why he is the way he is, he enjoys it he really does probably more so than being a lawyer,"
Karen chuckled because she knew it too, "Big city living, I guess,"
"So uh I didn't know you and uh Rambo we're keeping in touch," said Foggy
"Well he's saved my life more times than I can count, I can't just throw that away,"
Frank walked out of the bedroom reloading his weapons, "Yes I have, now counselor I'm gonna escort you out now," Frank said waiting with the bag for Foggy's head as Foggy finished saying goodbye to Karen.
"Karen I'm gonna be gone a while I got something to do," said Frank as he exited with Foggy.
Karen sighed and looked out the window at the dark street below dimly lit up by the few working street lights. In her mind, she knew that even if her life has been craziness in New York she could not get enough of it. She fought the good fight without a flashy devil costume or a bulletproof vest with a skull on it, she was better because of these experiences. Forever grateful for the family she found in Foggy and Matt...
