With the small tournament now underway, everyone got ready for the fight of their lives. First off was the range of Pokémon that Ash considered the 'trainer tiers'. These included Pokémon such as Scraggy, Gible, and even Torkoal. They were given these tiers as their track records and feats are not that impressive or have lackluster track records. First off was Gible and Totodile, and everyone expected an unremarkable match, but they would be proven wrong. Gible and Totodile started off with a Dragon Pulse and Water Gun respectively, which kicked up a massive cloud of smoke. When the smoke cleared, they saw Gible was nowhere to be seen, and a hole has been dug, signifying that Gible had used Dig to hide. Totodile looked around the arena, wondering where his opponent may pop up at. Suddenly, he was sucker punched by a burrowing Gible, but Totodile retaliated with a Bite attack to the fin. Gible attempted to shake him off, but Totodile was persistent and wouldn't let go.

Kiawe: Wow, I thought this would be bland but I was proven wrong

Guzma: Something I learned from Ash is that great power comes in small packages

As Totodile and Gible continued to fight, their attacks got more intense. Gible began to use Iron Head, and Totodile brought out Crunch instead of Bite. There was also a moment where Totodile manage to freeze Gible with Ice Fang and then wail on him with Slash. But Gible managed to break free and stagger him with an Earthquake attack.

Olivia: This battle is getting intense

Gladion: Yeah, I think Ash is starting to give his all in these sparring matches

Then, a massive explosion was wrought by a Draco Meteor and Hydro Pump collision, and sent each of the combatants sky high. Totodile was sent into the sea, and Gible into the rock face. Ash and Pikachu went to see if they were ok, but they then saw a bright blue light, and a slash and multiple rocks were flung outwards, revealing a Croconaw and Gabite respectively.

Ash: Incredible, both of you evolved

"Gabite"

"Crocanaw"

Kukui: That was so intense that it could have spawned a legendary Pokémon

The rotom dex flew in to get pictures and data on the new evolutions, much to the two reptiles annoyance.

Guzma: Who wants to bet that some of the other Pokémon will evolve as well?

Kiawe: I do

Gladion: Me too

Olivia: All bets are off

While Ash watched the tournament continued, he got a call from Oak.

Oak: Hi there Ash

Ash: Hey there Oak, what's the new discovery?

Oak: You're not going to believe this, but we have found a new region

Ash: Really!? What is it?

Oak: It's the Hisui region, a region that's nearby Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh

Ash: Huh, how did we not notice it sooner?

Oak: Also in the Hisui region are new Pokémon that I think you will be interested in

Ash: You know me all too well, well after the tournament I'm having with my Pokémon, I'll be sure to head over there

Oak: Alright Ash, see you soon

As the monitor turned off, Ash got back to the tournament.

Time skip

At this point all of the trainer tier Pokémon were finished, and the ones that had progressed were Crocanaw, Butterfree, Muk, and Torkoal. Now came time for the gym tier Pokémon, which were the ones that were able to contest with gym leaders of varying degrees of power.

Ash meanwhile was looking up on the Pokémon from the Hisui region, and saw some very interesting specimens that he is considering adding onto his team. Some of these were Kleavor, and alternate evolution of Scyther, Basculegion, an evolved form of Basculin, Wyrdeer, an evolved form of Stantler, and a regional Growlithe and Braviary, which were rock/fire and flying/psychic respectively.

Ash: Man, I'm so excited for this new region, I gotta bring Goh and Chloe over

As he thought of that, he looked back up to the fight between Squirtle and Snivy, wondering what turn of events will happen next.
