The days passed and it was now time for the girls' first day of school. They had just finished their breakfast at the table and gotten dressed and ready for the day. As they came back downstairs, Lucille spoke. "Alright guys, your dad and I are gonna take the twins for Lilly's first day and Gabriella, you're gonna go with Troy."
"Oh, I don't get to go with you guys for her first day?"
Before either of the adults could respond, Lilliana spoke up. "I want Bria there too."
The mother sighed. "Alright Lilly, Gabriella can come too. Troy, we'll all go in the SUV so we can take all of you and you'll drop me off to work before you three h head to school then tomorrow, you and Gabriella can take your truck."
The boy nodded curtly and walked to the car followed by Jacob, Lilliana and Lucille. As Gabriella went to follow, Jack pulled her back. "I don't like being the bad guy here but I'm gonna have to. I know that you're used to doing everything for Lilliana and I respect that and we're grateful that you've taken care of her for the past few years. And we understand that first days are something you'd usually do with her. But that's also a really important thing to us as parents. We've missed so many of her milestones already and we're wanting to be involved in as much as we can from now on. Unfortunately that involves us needing you to step back from some of the things you're used to doing so that we can do our job as her parents, I hope you understand."
The girl nodded, hiding her sadness. "I do."
"Great so when we get to school, it'd be really helpful if you could stay by the car while we take the twins inside." The junior nodded wordlessly. "Great, thanks Gabriella."
With that, he walked out to the car with Gabriella trailing behind. When she got in, she faked a smile to her little sister as she leant into her. They drove wordlessly to school, listening to the radio before they arrived at the primary school. Gabriella got out of the car so that her sister could and found that Troy also stepped out. Lucille spoke up. "Troy, Gabriella say goodbye to the twins, we're gonna take them into school."
Troy fist bumped his brother and gave his sister a hug. "Have a good day guys, see you this afternoon."
Lilliana immediately hugged her big sister and the girl knelt to her level, embracing her properly and placing a kiss on her temple. "I'm scared Bria."
"You have nothing to be scared about Sweet Girl, you're gonna have lots of fun today and have some new friends." She looked over at Jacob. "You'll look after your sister for me, won't you?" The boy nodded making Gabriella smile. "Thanks Jakie, have fun today." She gave him a hug before he went over to his dad and she turned her attention back to her sister. She pulled her back into a hug and whispered in her ear. "I promise that everything will be ok today Livie, you'll see, you don't have to be nervous."
"Will you come pick me up after school?"
"I'll still be at school when you finish and I think your mom will be picking you up but I'll be finished a bit later and I'll see you this afternoon." The little girl nodded. "Alright Baby, have a good day today, you'll be amazing, just be yourself ok? I love you."
"Everyday until the end of the universe?" She whispered.
"Everyday until the end of the universe." She smiled as the six-year-old hugged her once more before standing beside her brother, who held her hand and smiled reassuringly. She watched on sadly as Jack and Lucille took the twins into the school and her thoughts were interrupted by Troy.
"You do realise you need to back off her a bit right? She's too reliant on you."
Gabriella rolled her eyes. "I had this conversation with your dad this morning, I don't need your input too. I'm trying my best to step back and let them do their job but it's a little hard when all I've known is to be the parent for my sister, so excuse me for it taking a bit of time."
Troy just rolled his eyes and didn't respond. Jack and Lucille came back out a few minutes later and they drove her to work before arriving at East High. Jack spoke to his son. "Troy, Gabriella is in your homeroom and most of your classes so I expect that you will show her around today and where she needs to go."
"Ugh seriously Dad?" At his glare, he relented. "Fine."
"Gabriella, we'll meet you here this afternoon after school since there's no basketball practice today." The girl nodded. "Alright, well I'll see you guys this afternoon. Behave and stay out of trouble."
They started walking into school and Troy spoke. "I'll take you to homeroom and you can figure out the rest from there. I'm basketball captain so that means I'm kinda popular here so don't talk to me unless it's important and don't tell anyone what's happened the last few days, I don't need them discussing Lilliana or the fact that you're staying with us."
Gabriella rolled her eyes. "Trust me Troy, I don't want them to know as much as you don't, you don't have to worry about me ruining your reputation, I'll steer clear of you and your friends."
They walked to their homeroom. "We have Ms Darbus, there's a spare seat in the back." He saw Taylor sitting at her desk and dragged Gabriella over. "Montez, this is McKessie, you're both nerds, get her to show you the rest of your classes." After that, he walked off.
Taylor looked at her increduously. "What are you doing with Troy Bolton?"
"His dad knew that I was new and made him show me to my classes since we're in most of the same ones, he wasn't happy with that decision. I'm Gabriella, I'm sorry to bother you like this."
She shook her head. "No don't apologise, I'm Taylor, what subjects do you take?"
"AP english lit, calculus BC, chem, bio, us history then world history."
"Oh my god, you take 5 AP classes?! That's crazy. Well we have english lit, calculus BC and bio together but I have economics, business management and Japanese. You can sit with us at lunch if you'd like to, the other girls are in this homeroom and will be in later. We're a bit of a mixed group but there's Kelsi, Martha and sometimes Sharpay, depending on how busy she is with the drama club and cheerleaders or which of those groups wants her attention that day."
"You're friends with a cheerleader? Aren't they like the popular girls of the school?"
Taylor smiled. "Yeah they are but they don't tend to bother us because Sharpay is captain and we've been friends forever. You'll like her, she's a bit outspoken and sometimes a bit too bubbly for this early in the morning but she's a lot of fun. Martha's a dancer and she's in our AP classes as well. Then there's Kelsi, I think you two will get along well, she's a band kid and she's really quiet but she's a sweetheart."
"They sound lovely Taylor, thank you for inviting me."
Soon Ms Darbus came into the room and their homeroom began, starting Gabriella's first day at East High.
