The next morning, the girls were walking to the gym to watch the the wildcats verse the junior varsity team in a practice game in preparation for the upcoming championship game. As they were entering, Taylor turned to the girls as they walked to their spot behind the player's bench since they were friends with or dating the top players of the team. "I'm so glad it's Friday, this week has dragged on." The girls laughed and nodded in agreement before Taylor turned to Gabriella. "Has Troy made anything obvious that he's gonna ask you?"
The girl shook her head. "He hasn't even mentioned homecoming since we talked about it."
Kelsi smiled sympathetically. "I'm sure it'll happen soon Gabi, maybe he's planning on asking you at the game or something, that'd be a pretty cool promposal."
"Yeah I guess you're right."
The game came to an end and the team formed a huddle, confusing the student body. Before anyone could question, Jason emerged from the centre of the circle holding a poster and a box. The poster read: Kelsi, Let's not go solo when we can go together. Homecoming? The girl held her hands to her mouth as the boy opened the box to reveal a guitar pick with the message: pick me for hoco. Jason looked at her bashfully as he asked, "so what do you say Kels?"
Kelsi nodded shyly. "Sure Jase, I'd love to."
The boy pulled her into a hug before passing her the box as they were surrounded by all their friends.
When Gabriella was putting her books away in her locker that afternoon after school, she felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to find Kelsi. "I just wanted to see if you were ok."
The girl looked at her friends curiously. "Of course, why wouldn't I be?"
"I just thought you may be upset because Jason asked me at the game today, I wanted to make sure you didn't feel bad."
Gabriella shook her head. "No of course not, I'm really happy for you Kels."
"But?"
Gabriella sighed and fiddled with the bracelet on her wrist. "I just don't get why he hasn't asked me. He got so upset about Ryan asking me to homecoming so why wouldn't he do something about it. He hasn't mentioned a thing about it." She paused for a second. "This has nothing to do with Jason asking you and I don't want you to feel bad at all, it's just that he'd have seen all of the guys ask you girls to homecoming, I just wish I knew why he hasn't asked me yet."
Kelsi smiled sadly. "I'm sure he will soon Gabi, but you know he's your date, he's your boyfriend after all." Kelsi looked down at her watch and her eyes widened. "I've gotta get to rehearsal." She gave her friend a quick hug. "Try not to stress about it, I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye Kels."
"Stress about what?"
Gabriella whirled around to find Troy standing behind her. "Troy, you scared me, I didn't see you there."
"I figured I'd come find you after class so we could walk to the car together. What are you stressing about?"
"Oh it's nothing." She sighed at the stern look he gave. "I just umm - I think I'm going to go ahead with that interview like your dad said. It's just a bit intimidating, that's all."
The boy pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head. "You could've told me." He pulled away slightly to look at her. "We'll be with you every step of the way, there's nothing to worry about, ok?" Gabriella nodded. "Have you told Dad yet?"
She shook her head. "No, I was thinking about doing it this afternoon."
"Sounds good." He threw his arm around her shoulder and shut the locker behind her. "Come on, let's get outta here."
