Buttercup was driving her car , while Butch and his son were sitting at the back , if you asked the superpowered adults how they felt on the way to the puff's home , they would both give you the same answer .
It was awkward.
As the puff kept driving, many thoughts raced in the ruff's head.
'Why on earth is she helping me ? Ain't I supposed to be her enemy ? I tried to kill her multiple times and she decided to help me ?!! '
Butch's eyes stayed fixed on Buttercup as more thoughts flooded his mind.
' Could this be a trap to capture me ? Knowing her , there's no way she would help me just like that . There must be a reason ... '
The green ruff's thoughts were inturrepted when the car stopped .
"We're here." Said Buttercup as she got out of her car.
Butch slowly followed her still holding his son ; he looked down at him , only to notice that he was already fast asleep .
" Your kid is very cute by the way." Stated the successful woman.
"Thanks." Responded Butch.
As they reached their destination , Buttercup opened the door , needless to say the man was stunned .
The house was extremly big , the walls were all green matching Buttercup's eyes , not to mention that the furnitures looked pretty expensive , to summarise the description, the house was amazing .
'How did she afford all that ?!' Thought the green eyed man , still stunned about how the house looked.
" Come on , let me show you to your room." Said the green puff snapping Butch out of his trance.
" My...room?"
"Actually ... It's my room , but you and the kid can sleep there , while I sleep on the couch."
Butch looked at her , surprised , before asking her.
" Why?"
"Why what?"
" Why are you helping me? I never asked you to ."
Buttercup was caught off guard by this question , she stayed silent before answering.
" I'm doing this because there's no way I'll let a kid grow up on the street . You may have been my enemy , but the kid is not at fault in anything ."
Right as she said that , Butch's eyes fell on the sleeping baby , the more he looked at him , the more he felt his guilt increase , after all Buttercup was right , it wasn't the baby's fault , it was his , nobody else's , It's his fault his own son spent the first year of his life in the street, It's his fault they're living in poverty , and it's certainly his fault the baby has no mother.
"Hey ."
Butch looked up to find his counterpart looking at him with an emotion he couldn't catch . Was it concern ? Pity ? He honestly had no idea.
"Don't be so hard on yourself . I don't exactly know what happened . But...I could tell that you're a really great father."
Butch blinked at her not expecting such a statement from her.
"Now follow me, you must rest ."
"O-Okay." Stuttered the ruff , a small blush appearing on his face.
When they reached , Buttercup's room , Butch put his kid on the bed and both adults saw a small smile appearing as he shifted comfortably .
Butch and Buttercup stayed silent, watching the sleeping kid , glad that the boy was enjoying his peaceful slumber.
A few minutes passed , and Buttercup finally had the courage to start a conversation.
"So what's his name ?"
" Ben."
"That's a very nice name... Do you want to talk about what happened?"
No response.
"It's okay if you don't want to , I just thought perhaps it'll make you feel better."
Silence.
"You know what ? Just forget-"
"Okay , I'll tell you. "
"Really ? Are you sure?"
"Yes."
The adult man took a deep breath before starting his tale.
To be continued.
ENJOY!
