(A/N: Set not long after Mantis had been groomed. I also hope Andrew Francis can live up to Kirby Morrow's expectations)
After he had a haircut and shave the other day, Mantis had just finished helping some people carrying away some debris, push cars off the road for intact and working ones to pass by, and sweeping up dust. He had made his way to the monastery, just as it had the roof shingled before sitting down on the couch, which was outside among other furniture about to be brought in when he hears some noises and turned to see it was Cole, who had headphones on and was moving about a little. "#She's up all night 'til the sun#" He sung to the song he was listening to. "#I'm up all night to get some, She's up all night for good fun, I'm up all night to get lucky#" Mantis soon stood up and heads over to him. "#We're up all night 'til the sun, We're up all night to get some, We're up all night for good fun, We're up all night to-#" Mantis pokes Cole to get his attention, causing him to shriek in surprise before turning to him, only to sigh out of relief. "Oh, Mantis, hey." He gets out his phone to turn the music off and pulls off his headphones.
"What was that sound just now?" He asked.
"Music."
"Music?"
"Yeah, people sing, play instruments other than the bongo and guitar."
"I think I know what music is. Remember the radio in the First Realm, how Jay heard Lloyd's voice?"
"We thought he lost his mind again."
"We would receive strange transmissions, and some weird sounds would play. Like, for example: You spin me right 'round, baby, Right 'round like a record, baby, Right 'round, 'round, 'round."
"That's lyrics for a song."
Mantis felt confused. "Okay."
"People who sing do it alternately. Geoff and I sing in a band and we do it in a way people should have fun. We call it 'The Deserters'. My dad also sings in a band, called 'The Royal Blacksmiths', and they do it in a way people need either peace and quiet, or possibly fun as well."
"I got to hear him."
"Of course. He's performing at Laughy's tonight."
Later that night at Laughy's, it was almost cleaned up after the Sons of Garmadon's second takeover, with many people coming to see The Royal Blacksmiths, who went into hiding since the Sons of Garmadon Civil War. They were now currently on stage as the patrons, and Cole and Mantis listen to them do acapella. "#We are free from the emperor!#" Lou sang as people were cheering while Mantis nods a little. "#Ninjago is free once again! We are free once again!#" After a bit more acapella, they had just finished before everyone applauded for them.
As they were leaving the stage, Mantis turned to Cole. "They were talented." He said.
"Why, thanks, young man." Lou was heard as they both turn to see him coming up to them.
"Hey, dad." Cole said, getting up to hug him. He then backed away to point to Mantis. "This is Mantis Trudogolik. He's the one who helped me and the others in the First Realm."
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Smith." Mantis said, standing up as Loud held his hand out and they shake hands.
"Mantis, eh?" He asked. "Uh, forgive me for saying it, but what kind of a name is that?"
"Jay picked it for me."
"Sorry. I just thought you were like, a Finn, or a Simon, or even a Bowen."
"What are you implying?"
Lou quickly held up some reassuring hands. "Nothing, nothing. Only that Mantis doesn't suit you."
"Pop!" Cole said, reprimanding him.
"Sorry."
"Well, Mantis is just a temporary name, until I find out my real one." Mantis said.
"I know some people who can help."
"Much appreciated, but I like to find out on my own accord."
"I... see."
Cole soon pats Lou on the back. "He's still getting use to our world, dad." He said. "Don't think he's trying to make an enemy out of you."
"Sorry about my attitude." Mantis said. "And hey, your singing was great."
Lou soon smiled. "Thank you." He replied.
